First time everything

This weekend I will hopefully finish my first game. I’ve been stuck doing back-end C# web development for too long. I’ve never been so excited to get up at 4AM.

I have no idea what I’m doing (gamedev wise) but seeing all the amazing, creative stuff you guys are doing really motivates me.

Scope Management

Looking for tips on Scope Management. I’m leading a group for the Jam.
How do you manage your scope during the Ludum Dare?

I have a handy Scope case for all my managing Scope needs. Makes my Scope very portable and has shiny brass buckles that prevent the case from opening mid journey and my Scope getting away from me. I honestly don’t know how I managed my Scope before I bought my Scope case, it’s fundamentally changed my life and the functionality I get from my Scope.

For every feature, break it down into smaller sections. For each section, break it into chunks. Continue into you can get as low level as you can. Try to break problems down to the level of code. Then estimate problems that the code might give you, and try and figure out how long that would take. Then triple that time. Do you have that much time left? Are there more important things that need doing?

In there

In with a few friends, here to have fun.

In as usual (hopefully)

Yet another copy and paste “I’m in” post. If nothing goes horribly wrong, I’ll participate in LD34 compo as usual. Once again, my awesome wife will take care of the common weekend tasks, so I can focus on creating a game. I hope I can continue the success of my most recent entry and deliver another almost polished game.

I continue what I did last time. Preparing as much of the non-game work as possible. For this reason I continued expending my boilerplate project with on-the-fly code compilation, asset packing and optimization. May I’m going to implement the base classes of any game (state management, renderer setup etc.) before LD starts but if I do so, I’ll post a short release notice, so anyone can use it.

May I’m going to stream the whole process, but I haven’t checked if my current workstation can handle it.

Toolbox
OS: Arch Linux
Code editor: Geany
Map editor: Tiled
Language: CoffeeScript
Libraries: pixi.js, may howler.js
Graphics: Gimp, MTPaint
Sound editing: bxfr, jfxr, LMMS, MilkyTracker, Caustic (any of these hopefully)
Planing: Pen and paper

We’re in!

I’m going to try the jam for the first time ever! Trying with Pico8 for everything.

I’m going on adventure!

Registered, and now writing here, so… first step done, I’d say!
First-timer here, really hoping to actually finish and share a game with you people. Being here is enormous motivational kick, if anything.

Most themes look interesting as hell, too – I’m excited to see all the goodies we can do in just 48h !

Hey, cool! Which tools are you going to use?

IIIII’m in

Hello!

This will be my first Ludum dare, just for the heck of it. But eeeehm.. We’ll see how that goes.. But I’ll try.

Also, if anyone is in dire need of music or sound I’ll be happy to help, as I am a composer and sound designer :)

Good luck!

I’m in

I’m in! This is my first time in Ludum Dare.

I might be in… Retro Style Again!

I might be in this time if I have enough time. Last time I made a very retro style dungeon crawler like Wolfenstein or Mode7 on the SNES. I enjoyed creating my own software renderer.

My previous game used emscripten which converted my C++ code to javascript. This allowed people to play it from within the web browser. This time, I am thinking I should just make it a native program rather and then port it to the web afterwards. If this is the case, I will need to separate the platform the game completely from the get go.

Does anyone know of a way in emscripten to just get the framebuffer pixels without using SDL? Or do you have to use SDL?

Tools:

  • Language: C++
  • Text Editor: Sublime Text
  • Web Browser: Chrome/Firefox
  • Painting Program: Paint.NET & Photoshop

Another Dare for Us

We’re back again! I’m Budaniel of AAGH Games and we’re in for another Ludum Dare, our fifth (all consecutive). We haven’t ironed out our choice of tools yet – better hurry, huh? – but as per usual I’ll be doing the graphics and programming while Floata does the music and game design.

We liked our entry for Ludum Dare 33, but I personally think it was missing that trademark subtle humor we usually like to bring to the table. This time I’m hoping we can bring that back, plus since we like to experiment during jams, this – as always – should be fun.

Good luck to everyone!

LD34: We are in!!

Hi there, I am Adel Soudan, president and founder of the French indie studio Namesti Games. I have already participated to LD31 with some friends, and this was an amazing experience. I have now a student (who also happens to be my wife…) currently undertaking an internship in my company, and I wanted to make her participate to a Game Jam, so that she would get the opportunity to experience what it is. So here we are, Ilze & Adel, ready for 48 hours of coding, creativeness and coffee.

Game Designer/Tester : Ilze Puisane

Leader programer/Graphist : Adel Soudan

Tools used : Construct2, Bfxr, Audacity, Gimp and InkScape.

Wishing good luck to y’all !
