LD34 December 11–14, 2015

In.

I’m in. Hoping to do better than last time, so decided to post about it early in a gesture of dedication.

Language: Haxe – yay.
Engine: Luxe – working out how to use it now. So far that hasn’t been very clear, but slowly making some progress.
Graphics: GIMP, Inkscape – normally I’d do bad pixel art with GIMP, but maybe bad vector art would be faster?
Music: Whatever random music generator I can find half an hour before the deadline. Should really put more effort into music, but it’s not likely to happen.

Psyched!

Are you ready people!? 😀

Ready as I’ll ever be!

In for LD34!

I am really happy it is finally time for a new Ludum Dare. Always look forward to make time in these weekends!

I am really charged for this weekend. Want to develop something and I feel inspired. Let’s see what comes of it.

  • Language: JS with HTML5. I am going to use the usual Magic Library I’ve been putting together across the last few LDs.
  • IDE: Emacs
  • Art: Paint.NET, mypaint, Inkscape, my hands if I want to do some quick drawings offline
  • Sound/Music: Audacity, and a mic. Maybe my old synth if I am feeling fancy

A few reminders to myself before making a mess of it as usual:

  • Pick one idea and stick to it until the end.
  • Make a game that can be done in hours, not days. The smaller the scope, the better.
  • Focus on the core mechanics first, anything else later.

As a closing note, check out my game page over at itch.io. Let em know what you think, I would really appreciate it.

And that’s it. See you this weekend.

We’re in!!

We’re in!

My first time participating in a Ludum Dare. Not the first time for the other guys in my team though.

Here the participants:

  • Sosolol261 (Programmer)
  • Mahham (Programmer)
  • Muddmaker (Programmer)
  • Odyssay (Programmer)
  • Fantos (Programmer)
  • Noobstep (Music/SFX)

Language: Lua
Engine/Framework: Love2D
Various Other Softwares

I hope this LD will be a good one!! May the better one win 😀

Wow, 5 programmers. I’d say that’s quite impressive! Do you guys have some kind of workflow in mind, maybe a set of tools you’ll be using to ease the collaboration? I’d be interested in how you guys are going to handle cooperation under the pressure of ludum dare.

We decided that each will pick a different feature and work on it and have ste some standards on how modules should work

I’m in

Not sure if this is in the right place, here for my first LD weekend. will decide what tools etc I’ll use during the 48 hours.

I’m In Ludum Dare 34!

It appears that I’ll be participating in my third Ludum Dare this weekend, first time in the 48 compo! I will be busy most of Friday night but I think I’ll still try to enter in the competition this time around. Since my time frame is much smaller, the game should be a bit more basic than my previous entries. After working on Bionic since October, I am immensely excited to make a fresh game!

I will be using various tools:

Engine: Unity

Language: C#

Graphics: Blender, Gimp, Photoshop

Audio: LMMS, Audacity, SFXR

ld34

Something I will do is create a time lapse of the development, like I did in LD33. I hope you stay up to date @PowerSparkGames during development, thanks for reading!

Young Horses is in as a full team for the first time! Will be nice to try something new.

Misfortune

As I was about to participate in this LD, I realised I’m going away on this exact weekend. On top of that, I’m currently ill, which could ruin all my plans.

I hope I’ll be able to participare anyway, even if I have only a little spare time. I’m afraid my “I’m in” and “I’m done” posts will be one.

Ludum Dare #34, time #6! I’m in!

Hello everyone,

I’m in for my 6th time!  I’ve got a couple new fancy tools I’d like to try out this time around, so we’ll see how it goes.  For the most part, my toolset hasn’t changed, but here’s a rundown:

  • Html 5 Canvas / Javascript, using the Phaser framework.  I’ve also made a custom plugin for it since the last dare, PhaserIlluminated.  It’s a 2D lighting engine for Phaser as it lacks the support for it.  Hopefully I can put it to good use!
  • As always, Gimp for art.  Tried and true.
  • Spriter may be used if I decide to do something that’s not pixel art.  I like how it makes fluid animation easy, but the trade off is it’s not all that useful for pixel art styles where sprites change greatly between frames.
  • I’ve really been enjoying learning about music creation and making a few of my own songs.  So to continue growing in this area, I will be making another custom soundtrack this time around, using Bosca Ceoil, a simple music creation app created by Terry Cavanagh.
  • BFXR for random game sound generation.  Bleep bloop, bleep bloop!
  • Sublime Text 3 for code editing.  The text editor is mightier than the IDE.
  • GitHub for source control management, using a Ludum Dare template I created for use with Phaser.  To be in line with the rules, I’ve hosted it here.  Feel free to use it, if you wish!  It contains a rudimentary state management system and a preloader.  Just change the images around to whatever suits you.  I’ve also added support for logging Google events!  I hope to get some useful information about how people are playing my game in the weeks following the dare.
  • My own website to host the finished product.  Now completely redesigned!
  • Chronolapse for time lapse capture. Nothing more satisfying than analyzing how the weekend went by watching a condensed video of it all happening over again.

Thanks for reading!  Good luck to everyone and I hope everyone has a great time during the dare!

I’m in !

First ludum dare, graphics and web design

I’ll use photoshop and/or illustrator for 2D games.

I’m in !

My first Ludum ! I wanted to try it, because it looks like a good opportunity to try new things. But most of all, it’s also a good way to do simple things but with real gamefeel.

I’ll be a programmer during this Ludum, so I’m a little bit afraid of not success to finish the game and disappoint my teammates (usually, I am game designer, not programmer). But time will tell !

I’m In

Third time playing, Can’t wait!

I’m in! Time to rebound from the last two failed LDs…

So I failed to submit in the previous two LDs this year, one time as a team and the other solo. I’m not going to let that get me down, however. I’m going to narrow my process and scope and really work on coming up with one solid mechanic and getting it implemented ASAP. If it takes me more than 2 or 3 hours to code the mechanic then it’s no good!

As for my toolset, it really depends on what the theme ends up being. I’m really itching for a broad enough theme that can allow me to get away with a real simple 3D game, but alas, I’ll likely be settling for a 2D game.

Engine: Unity3D or Construct 2
Code: VisualStudio 2013 or Sublime Text 3
Graphics: Photoshop CC
Audio: FL Studio 12 and BFXR
Support: Trello, TweetDeck, Google Docs/Spreadsheets, Spotify, SourceTree (for Git)

I’m really making it my goal to “keep it simple, stupid”. I don’t even care if I personally don’t like the game, I need to execute to get this puppy done! If you want to follow the journey, I’ll be microblogging over at http://thoughtreactor.tumblr.com and streaming at http://twitch.tv/thoughtreactorlive.

Good luck everyone! Keep it simple. And most importantly – have fun!

For my first ludum dare, I wanted to implementiert this cool feature ( I think it was a Portal gun ) which took me forever to implement. When I realized that, I was struggling whether or not to finish the gun, because I put a lot of effort into it, but it was just killing my time. I scrapped it and it was a good idea.

Really learned from that experience :)

Yes, it’s always great to have ideas going into it (trust me, I have tons right now), but it’s even greater to be able to recognize the weight of those ideas before diving in. This is the ultimate challenge of Ludum Dare! It’s what keeps me coming back every four months.

I’m so in.

Yeah I am.

This will be my second LD, my first one was LD32 and I made TETRATOR which got 69th on overall compo.

I will be using paint and possibly GIMP or maybe just code for the graphics, FL Studio for the music, SFXR for the SFX and I’ll be coding the thing probably in C, maybe C++, with SDL2.

Also, my Twitter will serve as changelog during the whole process, with screenshots and GIFs so come say hi for more LD love!

Excited & In

I’ll be joining this upcoming jam with the help of a few friends (a musician and hopefully also an artist), and we’ll be making some sort of an HTML+JS canvas game. Needless to say, we are all really excited :D! Happy jamming (and compoing) everyone!

I’m in again :)

Ahoy,

Had a ton of fun in the last two ludums I was in, and plan on using what I learned to try to improve my efficiency and build something for Compo that is actually a full experience. My previous titles Umbrellespionage and  Imperial Accountant were both pretty alright, but had similar issues. I spent a decent amount of time producing the graphics and had no solid conclusion. In addition both were stealth games which means I am likely to try to avoid that for this Ludum Dare.

What I did well in previous Ludums:

  • Involving the Theme
  • Keeping the game at a particular level of polish
  • Provided reasonable sound and music

What I’ll be trying to improve in this Ludum:

  • Making the theme integral, as opposed to simply related
  • Make a catchier name
  • Avoid long startup  (as reviewers are likely to spend less then 2 minutes on the game on average unless they are very hooked)
  • Create a gameplay experience that can be satisfying in both short form and long form gameplay.

Thanks for reading and I’ll probably be streaming this for anyone who is interested.

Anyways, I plan to take it slow this time, by attending the Jam. My tools of trade are:

I’ll probably play around with Unity Cloud as well, post-jam, to handle any bug fixes.

My past projects are:

Can I Haz Monsters?

Star Driller Ultra

Unconventional Stick Swinging Simulator

Laundry Day

The Sentient Cube

In again, of course

Oh hey.

Last time I experimented with using Elm, a functional reactive language/platform.  It was pretty entertaining, but I actually don’t think I learned much.

So I’m going back to using Haxe/HaxeFlixel again this time because it’s so easy.  I feel a bit like a traitor to the cause, but whatever, I have a ten-year old student who shouts “LAMBDA!” whenever he writes a map or a filter, so I think maybe I’m karmically in the green for now.

I’m In

Looking forward to this, got no plans or distractions all weekend and Monday off work so I can work up to the deadline without worrying about sleep. I’m going to be using the following

  • Language: Java with the LibGDX framework
  • IDE: Eclipse
  • Art: Paint.NET, Gimp, Inkscape
  • Sound/Music: BFXR, OpenMPT, Guitar with Rocksmith Cable

Hoping for a good theme but I’m going to sketch out an idea for all the final ones to make sure I have something.

Hey dudes, this is, like, totally my first entry into Ludum Dare. I’m going, like, be using python and pygame (because it is rocking and rolling) as my programming platform. Dude.
