LD23 April 20–23, 2012

Statement of Intent

I’m in. Going to make a game in either Unity3D or XNA 4.0, with some audio edited/made with soundbooth and music made in an audio creator/engine. Possibly musagi, following recommendations. Not too sure right now.

Good luck to all others!

Newbie joins the ranks

Hey All,

This’ll be my first game competition, and my first stab at ludum dare. The only thing I’ve planned is my choice of language- which is gonna be Haxe + NME… beyond that I really don’t have a clue what I’ll be making. I figure the first hour or so of the comp I’m gonna layout a plan and then start building the game up from scratch.

Gonna be interesting to say the least.

Because its my first time in the comp, I’d be happy just submitting something, will go from there!

I do have a collection of libraries (mkv-engo) that I use across new projects, but they’re all written in AS3, and will need porting to haxe as I need them. General stuff like Model/View/Controller, Button, TextField helpers, Net connections, etc. They can be found here: http://mkv25.net/ludum/source/mkv-engo_v1-r25.zip

I really don’t know what kind of game I’ll be making, but I’ve made lots of game tech-demos over the years, everything from asteroids, tetris and pacman, up simtower type games and 4x space games. I’d be interested in doing something network based with a persistent / mmo type feel to it if possible. If I do that it’ll be PHP/MySQL running off my webserver. Will just have to see :)

Code downloaded, begin perusing :p

Still warming up…

…but I’m in! Probably JAM!

I’ll be using:

  • Flashdevelop
  • Flashpunk
  • GraphicsGale
  • PyxelEdit
  • OGMO Editor
  • LMMS
  • Audicity
  • and all that I forgot 😀

I’m doing the warmup, but haven’t had a lot of time this week.
I chose the theme space since I’ve never made a game in space.

try it here

Not much going on yet, you fly using your mouse.
There’s a star to the right of where you spawn.

Can’t wait ’til the weekend, meanwhile I’ll try to fix this puppy up and make a game out of it yet.

We’re in.

My wife and I are in! First  competition for me and I’m looking forward to it.

Using PhotoShop CS5 for artwork, Construct 2 as the engine(HTML5) ,sfxr for sound and Famitracker if we do any music.

LD 23 – Consider me good and ready!

I’m in, as they say.

Tools:

  • Javascript/HTML5, as has become standard for me.
  • GIMP
  • sfxr (if needed)
  • Autotracker-C (if needed)
  • Chronolapse for timelapse
  • If I decide to do multiplayer – unlikely, but possible – then I will use node.js

I’m In

I’m in for my second compo.

I’ll be be writing in CoffeeScript and HTML5 Canvas.

For content I’ll be using Gimp, sfxr, Wolfram Tones and Audacity.

Edit: Should have really posted this earlier. But, I might be pulling some basic engine stuff from one of my prototypes seen here: https://github.com/doowttam/The-Chase

I’m in!

Ni here, from Fireskies Studios, wielding Game Maker 7.0, GIMP/Blender,  and FLStudio. I’m in!

Cheers!

Wooh! First Dare!:D

This is my first time entering the jam. I started programming about a year ago and use a game engine called Love2d.

I will be working with some artists. But I’m the only programmer. So!

I will be using:

Love2d

Gimp

Aseprite

And Sublime Text Editor.

Does anyone have any tips?:D

This is the first time I heard of Aseprite. I think I like it!

Final Decision

I’ve made a decision on what I’m using!

  • Ubuntu 12.04 Beta 2 Precise Pangolin for my OS
  • Java as my language of choice (no external libraries)
  • OpenJDK 6 as my JDK
  • Gimp for graphics
  • SFXR for audio

I may possibly have a chat channel going during development. No live-stream. Time-lapse video will be made. Details here!

I’m in!

Well, I’m in! First ever LD, I think it’ll be fun!

I’ll be using the modified flixel classes I wrote before the 0 Hour Game Jam. It’s not much, just basic title screen and character movement, and health bar. I’ve shared these elsewhere, but I’ll post the github link here too:

https://github.com/robbiehunt/0hFlx

So, for tools, I’m thinking:

  • FlashDevelop
  • Flixel (+ 0hr classes)
  • As3sfxr
  • Nodebeat
  • Photoshop

But, I’ve been really into prototyping physical games lately, so if the theme is right … those tools will likely go right out the window. Aside from Photoshop.

Timelapse question

Maybe someone can answer me this. How can I have the times in between my timelapse to be black? For instance, if I turn it on at 9am until 11am, then turn it off, and turn it on again at 1pm. How can I fill that time in between in my final video?

It really depends on what technology you are using to make your timelapse. Myself, I’m putting together multiple screenshots, so all I need to do is to add multiple black screenshots (since my screenshots are named by a timestamp, I just need a script to generate the timestamp for the missing ones).

i’m using Chronolapse + Sony Vegas. Sony Vegas can place images based on a timestamp, but the images generated by Chronolapse doesn’t have one

why would you want to include the blank times? just edit them out

the timelapse script that I wrote I just have it take a screenshot index as a parameter so i can stop it and restart it at will. It’s crude but it works.

Even if you “skip” the blank space, you might want to include a few slides of “sleeping now”.

Looks nice!

Okee.

I’m in.

For maximum rules-abiding-ness: my base code can be found here.

I’ll be using Scala/LWJGL.

Second LD ever!

Gonna be using java, either same base template as last time(not sure where it is right now, will try and update before start) or I might go over to Slick/LWJGL

Was hoping to put a lot of effort into this one but I have a final in awful final exam monday morning so I’m not sure if I can devote fulltime to it :(

eclipse for ide and standard stuff for randomly generated sound/art, though I was considering trying to maybe make a lot of custom sounds that I record myself. pyew pyew!

In.

I contributed somewhat to a Jam entry last time – this time I hope to complete something for the competition. Probably using: love2d, GIMP, Audacity and sfxr.

LD23 – I might be in!

It’s a busy weekend with family activities, but I might get 3 or 4 hours to try something.
If I don’t get the time, no big deal, I’ll just follow along and check out other people’s progress.

For tools, I’d use pygame and linux or html5 and possibly django.  (Everybody loves web games).

Sound would be bxfr or a guitar recording.  Can I do everything in a few hours? No not really :)  I’ll just keep telling myself, simple games are the best games!

Jumping into the deep end

After hearing about ludum dare for a few years now I think I’ll join in. I can’t say I’ve ever made a “finished” game, mostly because my ideas get so ambitious and I don’t have the skills to polish something. My art skills are lacking and I’ve never attempted to create music or sound effects before. I figure having a time limit will force me to focus on making a game that looks and sounds decent while hopefully having some fun gameplay. Leading up to the competition I’ll be familiarizing myself with the awesome tools that I’ve seen recommended.

Tools of the trade:

Language: XNA 4.0

Sound Effects: sfxr (played around with it a little bit – very easy to make good sounds with)

Graphics: Paint.net, Pickle, and PyxelEdit (Playing around with all of these, each have their uses)

I’ve wanted to code something for a while but couldn’t think of what, LD is just the kick in the pants I need.

I’m in!

I’m very excited for my second Ludum Dare!

I’ll be using AS3 with FlashPunk in Flash Builder and making the art in Photoshop. I don’t know yet about music/sound.

Now I just need to finish all my schoolwork before Friday…

It’s fixed and half-working again

I’ve managed to fix up my map editor/small game engine that I’ve been working on for a few months in VB.NET and I hope to get some actual use out of it in the jam

Pretty tiles! Are they self-made?
