LD23 April 20–23, 2012

So A Thing Happened…

Basically, here’s what happened to my warmup entry: School. My last week of school for the semester ate all of my spare time.

That being said, I’m going to be in for the jam regardless. I have an exam on Monday which I’m confident that I’ll pass (Biology, for those who are interested) and that’s it until fall.

So… I’m in for the jam. The exam… F**k it! We do it live!

This summer will involve lots of freelance work to save up  for the class I’m taking in fall (after four years, finally finishing my… associates’ degree), so I’m reveling in gamedev now while I still have plenty of free time. :)

So who’s ready to dance?

Dude, that’s awesome! :)

Looking for a Jam Team

Hello. I wan’t to put together a team of Lua programmers for the Ludum Dare 23 Jam. We will be using the LÖVE framework/engine for the game. If anyone is interested, please leave a comment.

*pretty handy. my god this keyboard sucks.

Weee !²

Weee, the last LD i participated i had the great idea to code during a thunderstorm…needless to say it didn’t ended well, i thought my computer was dead and it took me 3 or 4 days to repair it.  Let’s see if i can finish a game this time.

I have no idea how i will code the game for the moment, maybe in as3, maybe in java, will depends of the mood.

(Also i still can’t speak english correctly.)

Updating Mah Tools!

Sooo, been doing a lil’ prepwork, so I figured I’d post a couple of extensions I’ve been putting together for all the Game Maker users out there. What they do is kinda random, but who knows, maybe someone will find it useful like me. 😀

  • GM Mouse Ext – Adapted from a DLL someone else made (I like the GEX format better). Adds functions to load and use ANI/CUR files as mouse cursors, and functions to contain the mouse to a screen region. [download]
  • Line2D 0.2 – Something I put together to calculate line-to-line intersections. Also features a fairly random function that generates a curve based on 3 points (stuck it in there since it uses the intersection functions). [download]

I also took the time to write some documentation so hopefully it should be clear how to use them. I hope someone finds these useful!

First time ! (hope that it doesn’t hurt…)

Hi people!

Coming for my first competition. I will do my best to create uh… something fun!

– coding :  AS3 / FlashPunk

-graphics : Pickle

-sound : as3sfxr

Good luck everyone, and try to not overdose caffeine!

LD23 is so close!!!

I’ve been practicing all month and looking forward to Ludum Dare 23 very much.  This will mark my 7th year!!!  That’s right, my first Ludum Dare was LD6 – Light and Darkness, April 2005!  Interestingly enough, that is the same LD that Phil Hassey’s new and just released game Dynamite Jack was conceived.

Excited!!!

SO Excited!!!

I’m using a new technology, as usual: Flash/AS3 with Flash Punk

Im in!! :D

i am very excited for the upcoming LD 😀 with much more experience than last LD i think i can make a bigger game and maybe even finish the whole game this time!

im gonna use Actionscript 3 for development, PyxelEdit for the graphics and sfxr for the sound effects! ive been practicing with my graphic skill so… i hope we get a nice theme and have som fun!! 😀

Probably should announce this.

I plan to participate in LD23. Had such a blast last time and was really pleased with what I came up with, even if it wasn’t that good. This time I will be trying to create a 2.5d game using a custom engine I’ve been designing. Never know how these things will work out until you  put them in a game and see how they play. In case anyone is silly enough to try to learn an amatuer engine in one day and use it for the compo, here it is. Anyway, the tools:

Langauge: Java (so I can distribute the applet on the web, probably should just learn flash at some point)

Engine: Custom 2.5D engine (because I’m silly like that)

Graphics: Paint.NET (an old stand-by)

Sound: Audacity (I plan to make my own sound effects and then distort them to something hopefully cool)

Time Lapse: Chronolapse (though I can’t figure out how to get it to record just my second monitor. I may just have to write a script to trim all the images it creates so that it only shows the second monitor)

Good luck, everybody!

Jam, here we come!

Introducing our team for the first time to the Ludum, and feels as exciting as a first date, or a first attempt to get laid.

Three might be our lucky number as we’re three in our team.. like the musqueteers, like the Jackson 5 – 2, inseparable like the Baguette, the Saucisson, and the red wine. As you can guess with the last reference, we are… french, from Bordeaux (yeah, wine !)

The team:

  • Dr.Panda: Developer & Paint Engineer
  • Dr.Squirrel: Developer & Pint Killer
  • Dr.Pingu: Music, Noises & Cooking

Hope we can came up with something at least playable, obviously looking like a failed Picasso painting as we don’t have any designer or graphic artist.

Our toys:

  • Coding: AS3, Flashdevelop, Flashpunk, maybe Box2D
  • Graphics: Photoshop or Paint
  • Sound: Ableton Live 8

That’s all for the moment.. Wishing everyone to have fun, luck, and fun again.

LD23 Finally!

Finally it’s time for Ludum Dare! This is the first time for me entering it, so it’s going to be really interesting!

– Ae

Hi everyone!

I plan to take part in LD23 tomorrow, I’m so excited about it! I have made a few minigames and scripts in pygame and I had to make a game in Java for one of my courses at college…

I’ll probably be creating a 2D or 2.5D using a (very!!) simple game engine that I’ll probably code up for the competition.

Language: python, for portability and because I enjoy using it

Library: pygame

Graphics: GIMP

Sound: sfxr, some kind of tracker? I probably won’t make music for this, but if I have some time to try that out it would be fun!

See you on the other side…

I’m in! Asobitech

I’ve been busy with creating a game a week, asobitech.com
and I thought Ludum Dare would be a great topic for the game I create that week.

I shall be coding in the excellent GLBasic, which compiles to multiple platforms.
Graphics will be  created with Graphics Gale (Win) and Sprite Something (iOS)
Sound effects will be done with SFXR and my voice recorded in Goldwave.
No idea how I’m gonna make music though, but hopefully I’ll think of something.

Pretty excited to see what people come up with.

I’m in! At least partly!

Accurate description of me at work.
Ludum dare time again! I’m excited to join, although I have many other plans this weekend, I’ll try to do it the best I can. The past two attempts at Ludum Dare, I failed. This time will be different, I’m sure of it. I’m much more skilled as a game developer, I’m currently working on a platformer I hope to finish by the end of the month. Just have to keep it simple, stupid!

Tools:

  • Java – I’m most familiar with it, and can crank out stuff pretty fast.
  • Slick2D – This framework helps me so much, gives me access to the 2D benefits OpenGL without it’s complicated stuff.
  • Photoshop CS5.5 – There’s free programs for doing pixel art, but I’m really comfortable with Photoshop, and plus I already own it.

I’ll be doing a time-lapse for what time I do work on it. No live-stream, that just distracts me.

So I guess I’M IN!

I’m In!

Well, it must be the third time I said I was in for a Ludum Dare and this time I’m not gonna give up! I want to play my part in reaching 1000 entries for the 10 year anniversary. Now for the tools that hopefully well help me get it done…

Language: Python

Framework: Pygame

Graphics: MS Paint and Paint.NET

Sound: SFXR and LMMS

Timelapse: Chronolapse

Built for: Windows and might run on Linux

Well, that’s all. Good luck to everyone and don’t forget to spread the word and reach 1000 entries! 😀

Im in

Gonna be doing the competition for the first time this time around.

Language: As3 and Flixel

Image Editing: Photoshop and Paint.net

Audio: H2 Audio Recorder + BFXR + iPad.

It’s decided… i’m in

So I was setting up my dev environment for this weekend… and I decided to make a little test ‘game’ … check it out here… made this in a couple of hours:

http://blunt-instrument.com/imin.html
Tools I will be using:

  •  Unity 3D  (with plugins like RageSpline, Playmaker, Vectrosity, EZGui, iTween)
  • Visual studio
  • Photoshop
  • Audacity
  • TimelineFX
  • sfxr
  • 3dsmax(maybe)
Can’t decide if I will live-stream yet. Most likely will! (why not?)

And here are some images of my desk and myself getting pumped…

I’m going to stick to 2D this time I think. See how the theme inspires me.

Unfortunately I’ll be a bit late starting due to work commitments but other than that I’ve cleared my schedule and hopefully I can make something worth playing this time! I learnt a lot last time and hopefully I don’t get bogged down in some minor detail again.

It’s so late I should go to sleep to prepare!

Unity is the bomb. It is sick what you can do with that thing, especially with all those plugins. Probably the best game dev tool of all time.

Unity is certainly awesome sauce. The more I use it the more I like it. Especially with all the recent additions.

I’m [probably] in for my first Dare.

I tried a smaller 48 hour contest last week… didn’t do so well. This is my first Ludum Dare and now that I have a better idea of how hard it is to stick to the 48 hour deadline, maybe I’ll do okay. We’ll see.

My arsenal:

  • Game Maker 8
  • sfxr
  • Honestly that’s probably it.
Shameless plug, but if you’re interested in seeing my prior works or my current in-development project, check out my blog. Just a couple platformers and a fancy shooter. Games on games page, blog on blog page.

Warmup finished, Ready for the Weekend

Finally I finished my Warmup-Game “Incredible Wizard Worms” – It is about two little guys that have to transport crates from the lowest to the uppest platform. Why wizards? Cause they use particles, wooooohoooooo *lol* Honestly no rocket-science,… 😀

This Warmup was very important, I struggled at very basic things but solved most of it. I  put most of the elements in the game I might use upcoming LD and therefore feel well prepared!

So yes, I’m in. I will try to finish in 48h but won’t have a problem to go for the jam if I struggled somewhere. I’m using gamekit, blender, gimp and lmms. This is my gamekit-codebase I will base my LD-Entry on.

I can just encourage (as Grungi Ankhfire before) the unity people: Please release Windows-Standalone-Versions as well, so Linux-People can play their games using wine (at least try to).
