LD22 December 16–19, 2011

Maybe i’m in

It depends on my october mini LD challenge, yes, I’m a little late! Things become quite slow because of some other project, but I’m here and I’ll publish my game [OUR game!, i made it with the company i work for].

My 3rd Ludum Dare.

I will be participating in my third Ludum Dare.

Tools.

Language: Java
Library: Slick2d
Platform: Web

I will now be using web applets to demonstrate my game. I bought a web domain so this will be Possible now.

www.rockdtben.com -> My game from LD #20 is here at www.rockdtben.com/catTroller.html

I’m in!

This will be my third, and also third consecutive, LD.

Code: AS3 with Flashpunk in Flashdevelop or C++ with SFML 2 in Visual Studio 2008 / XCode 4 / Code::Blocks
Audio: SFXR and or Audacity & I
Graphics: Paint.NET or Game Maker 8
I’ll probably use OGMO Editor also.

I haven’t submitted my I’m in! video yet, but I’m going to do that soon.

Great use of the xor operator.

I’m in

This is going to be my first Ludum Dare

I have school on the weekend during this LD, but this won’t stop me!

I’ll probably use GameMaker ( I won’t have much time becasue of school) or maybe Java with some libraries.

And for graphics I’ll probably use paint .net and maybe inkscape, for audio: sfxr and musagi.

Can’t wait.

Yeah, I work during the week and on weekends I have school, too bad it’s when LD will be, but I’ll try anyway

I’m In

I’m in on my first LD. I plan on using C++ with OpenGL, whether that’s just gl.h and glu.h or libsdl, I’m not sure yet. But I’m definitely busting out sfxr and musagi for sound. Can’t wait to spend a whole weekend programming like a maniac.

I’m in!

May only be using Game Maker, and this is my first try at LD, I’m in!

I’m in?

I’m in, probably. First Ludum Dare. More than likely using FlashPunk. Hurrah, non-committal writings!~

Edit: Will actually be using my cross-platform game library which I’m developing as part of my undergraduate degree. Source is on github: https://github.com/ashleygwinnell/ark2d . I’ve made games with it before: see Spectranaut, Mirrornaut, etc. http://ashleygwinnell.co.uk/games

Declared!

I’m in for Ludum Dare #22.

This is my second Ludum Dare, I did reasonably last time, so I hope to improve upon that result this time.

Code: Python

Libs: SFML2 with the Cython bindings.

Audio: I’m thinking of making some stuff with my rock band (yes, the game) instruments, if I get the time extra, might be something a little interesting.

Graphics: The GIMP and what little skill I posses at art.

As with last time, I’ll get Linux and Windows builds made, along with source code for those that want it.

This time, I’m actually deciding to do this in advance, so got a timelapse program ready, and done an I’m In video. I’m also at Uni this time, not home, which is actually useful as I have more room here. Just before the start I’ll upload some pictures of my desk space.

I’m in!

First LD! Using it to motivate myself to actually finish a game (rather than doing infinite prototyping).

» Code: Java

» Library: Slick

» Graphics: Paint .NET

» Sound: sfxr

Let’s hope for the best and good luck to everyone 😀

I’m in… most likely

By some surprise, it turns out that the end of my finals week is celebrated by yet another Ludum Dare. I think I’m going to give this challenge a try, though I’m not fully sure what I’ll be using (leaning to opentk with c# because it’s the most familiar environment for me, heh). I’ll use all the favorite utilities like sfxr, of course (did they make the vvvvvv soundset via sfxr? it’s churning out some surprisingly similar things)

In terms of random fun facts, this wouldn’t actually be my first try at this. I tried last time for LD21 and failed horribly. I was rushing and not planning things out, resulting in very messy code and me doing idiotic things like trying to reinvent hashtables, and eventually I couldn’t get my singular unnamed character to collide or move against anything in the world. She’d walk straight through castles and fortress, as well as mountains. She could also jump over eight times her height. It didn’t work very well, and the graphics weren’t great either. I’ve figured out where I went wrong, though, and I hope to actually get something working this time around, especially since I won’t have anything important to do afterwards.  I think to get myself into the spirit, though, I’m going to try to make a quick little game beforehand, though. It will be a platformer based on a more ambitious idea I have that would likely be a 3D FPS in space. It will involve people walking around a floating world while they shoot people with guns. Nothing special, but just a fun little project.

I’m in! ai-class pros and cons…

I’m not going to let the fact that Ludum Dare is the same weekend as the finals for the Stanford Engineering online artificial intelligence class stop me from having a go! I’ll just count taking the final exam as a “break”.

Last time I got so distracted by watching other people’s livestreams that my game never escaped my mind. This time it will be different!

  • Code / Language: Java? Flash? HTML5?
  • Library / API: Slick? Spaceport.io? Google play?
  • Graphics: Paint.net
  • Platform: Computer? Web?
  • SFX: bfxr!
  • Music: This is getting complicated…

It’s the same weekend, huh? Oh well. The midterm was pretty easy anyway and it probably doesn’t overlap completely. What do you think of the class?

It’s so awesome to find other people taking the Stanford AI Class on LD. 😀

Let’s just hope the final isn’t that long – it’s supposed to be about as long as the midterm, right? 30 mins of actual solving, two hours of checking the results, hehe.

In

I’m in for my second Ludum Dare.  Last time, my goal was simple:  to complete a game and learn a bit about HTML5 development in the process.  I finished my game but it felt lackluster.  Because I spent so much time wrestling with learning a new way of developing games, my game was very simple and lacked sound effects.

This time I’m going to be using AS3, a language that I am much more comfortable with.  Hopefully this will let me focus more on putting out a solid game, rather than learning tools.  My goal for this round is top 100.

Language: AS3

Libraries: Flashpunk

Graphics: Paint.net

Sound: Audacity, sfxr

Can’t wait to see what all we come up with

Whee!

I’m going to have an… interesting LD this time around.  First of all, this will be my second LD compo and my first LD48, as I did the Jam last time.  Additionally, I have finals the two days leading up to the compo weekend, so I will have literally seven hours between taking my semester finals and starting a 48-hour game.  But hey, it’ll probably be all right.

Language: C# using XNA

Platform: Windows (I use XP still, btw)

I plan to make the sound effects myself with a mic and sound editor, so my game will either have bad sound effects or literal onomatopoeia ones like “bang”.

If you could work it in with the theme, I think onomatopeia would be a great thing to hear in a game. Good luck!

Hi again.

Hi From Geelong, Australia

This will be my second Ludum Dare, The first was last time (escape) but that had to be cut short due to unforceen circumstaces and I was never able to hand in my entry unfortunately.

Tools I will be using.

Code: C#

Framework: XNA, Silversprite.

Bad Artistry: Photoshop (I’m a programmer, not a artist).

TimeLaps: ZD Soft Screen Recorder

My plan is to offer the application in the form of Silverlight to allow those of you who dont have or dont want to install the xna framework to run the game in their preferred web browser. This will be the first time utilizing Silver sprite so we will see how we go.

I’m really looking forward to the theme announcement, I’m honestly hoping not Zombies as they have been done soo much in recent times. Someone suggested 1 minute game which sounds interesting.
Ether way, See you all in a week or so.

Gavin.

XNA is awesome, I wish you all the luck in the world! 😀

I really like what they did with the latest version and the really high silverlight compatibility.

I’m in, but

I’m in, and I’ll probably use the same tools as last time; C/SDL. I may use C++/SDL/Box2D instead – but we’ll see what ideas the theme will give me.

The last two LD’s, I was super-excited, and knew what I wanted to do — this time, I’m mostly confused about what I’m supposed to do. I hope things will pick up when the competition closes in.

Box2D ftw 😀

You could try setting up a reusable tilemap loader in case you decide on making a tile based game, that could come in handy. Maybe write some really lightweight and fun mini-games/ mini-apps the day before LD as a warmup. 😀

I might be in

For LD #22

I haven’t figured out if I will be able to participate.  I will try to make a good-faith-effort though.

Im In

LD48 comes round again, and I am In.

This will be my third LD. Each time I enter something like this I try to use it as a vehicle to improve some specific aspect of my game dev skill set, last time it was 2D art, this time it will be audio. As well as having a specific feature focus I’m going to try and concentrate on making a “game” this is actually harder for me then it perhaps should be, as a programmer by profession I tend to find myself getting lost in the mechanisms of my code base and loosing sight of what I’m actually trying to make. To try and combat this I will be using my code base from the last LD as a starting point for this one. Shock! yes I feel like its cheating too, but the engine rules allow for opensource engine code to be used and although I feel a little dirty doing it, this should help focus me more on the game and less on the code.

Anyway, like last time I will be using HTML5 and developing on Linux using standard tools for the platform ( GIMP, MyPaint, Geany  IDE, Chrome web browser ) as part of my focus on sound I will be trying out a bunch of audio editor/creation software that I will review after the contest. The link to my code base will be placed here as soon as I have setup the github repo.

Good Luck LD’ers!

I’m in

Hi from @Zapakitul, Romania.

This is the first time I enter a Ludum Dare challenge, and boy am I anxious. I earn my living working as a Game Designer for Gameloft (been doing so for a year), but since I got my job, I haven’t been able to finish any personal projects/games. Ludum Dare represents, a great opportunity to boost my moral, as well as a personal challenge, so I’ll be looking forward to it.

As for the tools I will be using, guess I’ll stick to what I know best:

Language: C++ with the aid of DarkGDK.

Audio library of choice: Irrklang.

3D Graphics: Milkshape3D

2D Graphics: Paint.NET.

Level editor: Mapscape.

My work station contains a Desktop Computer (development), and an old Acer Aspire 5050 laptop for debugging, and keeping in touch with everyone on IRC/Twitter. Honestly, all I want out of this challenge is to finish something in this short period of time, and as a newcomer to it, I’m a little worried. I’m happy to meet and “compete” with all of you.

I’m In, but its gonna be a short entry

I don’t have the time this time around to take 36-40 hours doing an entry, so my entry will be a text adventure, using C#. I probably wont use any additional libraries, so no need to start work on a starting framework; ill hard code the layout of the world in arrays.

I’m in!

It’s cold and everyone is ill, looks like it’s competition time again!

This time i’m going to be doing something a little different. Instead of using my usual tools (C++ and HGE / SFML), i’m going to use my favourate scripting language, Lua, alongside an interesting engine called Love (Link)

This is because last time I did this competition, I felt so used to the process of making a game in C++ (considering I do it for a living), that I felt uninspired and that I wasn’t learning anything. With a language I don’t know all about, and an engine i’ve never touched before (but admired), this should help motivate me to finish!

Your cuddly gastropod friend,

-DBS
