ue4 and 3ds max and substance painter, maybe maya too if theres much call for animation (dont really know much about rigging). Sound is looking like bfxr and my mic if required. Looking at some music programs too… any suggestions for simple programs appreciated.

Can We Use Libraries?

Can we use libraries in Ludum Dare?

Yes, you can use anything as long as it’s freely available to the other contestants.

Have you read the rules?

If you are referring to the public library (e.g your local one). I would have nothing against it, provided you brought the stuff you need to make the game and respected the opening and closing times.

In?

I am going to try this again…

I’m in!!

Hey everybody,

this time in the Jam I try to actually finish a game (had some practice with 1 1/2 finished games in two Mini Ludum Dares in between).

Tools I will be using:

  • Unity 5.3.5
  • GIMP, Blender, Asesprite (depending on the idea)
  • My own simple State Machine package (sorry didn’t manage to put it into a repository yet – but I will after the JAM :O).
  • Music created by my brother (if he’s free) or from the Internet.

Good ideas and good luck to everybody :)

See you tomorrow morning at 10 am (at least here in Japan!)

hyep

Right. So it’s starting in like, 11h.
It’s the first time I’m actually prepared so I’m SO HYPED.

Going to use Unity, Visual Studio, Photoshop, AutoDesk Character Generator, and the UFPS Unity asset.

So please vote for themes that would be great for first person shooters. :)

Review of my third ludum dare

Finally! After the third time, I made it!

Move the cubes to the correct shape, so they will fit through the wall-shape:

game intro

This time I really came up fast with an idea, so I had much more time to develop instead of thinking about ideas. I also removed so many features as possible and tried to keep the idea just very simple.

My idea didn’t come up from no where though. I remember a game on the PS1 called:

Intelligent Cube IQ

It was also sort of about shapeshifting and it was very competitive to escape those cubes. So I tried something similar. But I think my game concept fits much better on a mobile device like android and ios, where you can swipe and touch in order to move the cubes. Many people had the feedback, that the control was a bit heavy and clumpsy, with I agree. In overall I must say that all the people were more then friendly and I was very happy about all the feedback I received! ♥

I enjoyed to participate and I hope you had also a lot of fun!

Greetz da schw3de

I’m in part time

I think I can do it if I keep it simple, with CToy

I’m in!

I’m in, I’ll be using Unity, FL Studio for music, BFXR for sound effects, and Fireworks/Photoshop for graphics.

Good luck everyone!

I’m in, second dare!

I had a good time last LD and learned a ton so I’m at it again! I’ll be using Unity, Photoshop and documenting the entire process so stay tuned!

The video will end up on here.

I’m in too!

I hope to use my terrain generation script this time. On previous jams I’ve made two 2d games and one 3D, so I’ll try to make another 3D one this time.

eraD muduL

This will be my first LudumDare. I’m not sure if I will be able to finish my game, but I hope so.
And I hope that all of you will be sucessful and most important will have fun.

I still got a question. If I finished my game: Do I have to upload it to an external site? Because if so, I would have to registrate
on an upload site. I would appreciate if somebody could give me a short answer.

Have a great Day and LD,

Dedioso

I’m in! First LD, hope I’ll manage

I’m actually having a stage fright 😀

I plan to use:

  • Unity 5 personal edition with C#
  • Pencil and paper, phone’s camera and GIMP2 for graphics
  • Microphone, anything available at arms length, Milkytracker & Audacity for audio and music
  • Sublime2 for writing notes…?

Hopefully see you on the other side .) Now excuse me, I’m going to stock up on coffee and food, and make that lair I call home a bit less messy so I have a place to work at.

BTW: Any logistic hints for a first timer? .)

When you figure out what you want to do, try to figure out what are the minimum things that need to be implemented for the game to be playable, it doesn’t have to be finishable, but the core idea is there. Don’t worry if you don’t get it done on the first day. First time is going to be rough, unless you’re really good with your tools.

Oh, and unless you’re really fast at drawing graphics, use a lot of placeholders! Squares and circles and such are quite enough for a very long time!

Post title isn’t a reference to O’ Brother Where Art Thou? is it?

I’m In!

Hi!

This is my first Ludum Dare! I’ve participated in game jams before though, namely GGJ ’15 and ’16 and July’s Unreal Engine Game Jam.

I work with UE4 using blueprints but I also know UNITY3D, C# and a bit of everything else related to game development. I also know photoshop pretty well but I’m no artist in any way 😛

Looking forward to the game jam!

I’m in!

First Ludum Dare here, will hopefully lead to my first finished game. I’m doing the compo, but may switch to the jam if time is a problem at the end.

Tools: Godot Engine 2.1, Aseprite, Krita, graphics tablet, Propellerhead Reason 8 and probably bfxr.

I got several years of coding experience, but am relatively new to the art stuff. I use Godot Engine because i don’t have to worry about the lower level stuff and can get right into gameplay coding and art creation. I chose it over Unity and other options because it is free, open source and relatively lightweight. I also like the way how it organizes game objects and stuff. If you are still not sure what to use, maybe give it a look?

Have fun!

Hey, me an my little Indie team in Sa Aus will be participating in yon jam. We are very excited, though we arent all working together 😀

Wow! This is my first Ludum Dare and game jam ever! I’ve always wanted to join a game jam but I’m always busy. Now, I made sure to make some time. I’m actually just starting to make games and I really enjoy it!  I hope that I will be able to finish and submit a game.

Count me in!

Hello guys,
this is my second Ludum Dare, and I am already hyped. Last time I wasn’t able to finish my game, but I got a Cool Random Weapon Generation System (CRWGS™) working.
I will try to finish my game this time, but it won’t be as big as a project last time, as I have to learn for my theoretical driving test that I will have next week, and most of my time will be dedicated to learning for the test.

However, I will use my spare time for some fun programming and designing my game.
I still have to decide whether my game will be 2D or 3D, depending on the theme. If it will be 2D I will use Java with Slick2D, and Unity for 3D.

Thanks for reading,
good luck for you all!

Here we go again…

This is my third Ludum Dare but I’m in for the compo for the first time ever, and I’m completely out of my mind. Why? I’m going to make a text adventure. Well, they call them Interactive Fiction these days, but that’s also the folks that lean more heavily into the “story” side of the thing. My goal is to make sure it’s a game even though it’s nothing but text.

I’ll be using Inform 7 to build the game. This should be an interesting experience since I’m used to writing pretty technical code for SDL, LibGDX, or Unity, but Inform 7 is a beautiful “natural” programming language. It’ll feel more like a really super-condensed NaNoWriMo than a proper game jam. I find that intriguing.

Since the compo only covers the first two days, I’ll be helping people with music on the third day. Feel free to get in touch if you need music, especially if you want high-energy dance music or chiptunes. ^_^

Good luck to everyone!

I’m in! Moldova is in!

I am in, as usual. This time, involving more people from Moldova!

– Coding : Game Maker 8.1

– GFX :  Game Maker 8.1

– SFX : sfxr, bosca ceoil

I am in despite it all :P

Well…

After I felt pretty awful about LD 33, feeling like it’s my last LD (because I started working full-time) came a depressingly lame attempt to attend with only 10 hours of LD 35 which led to me quitting in the midst of it. (the post)

After realizing I have the time to do a LD this time I got hyped and then… bummer!

PoV decided not to make LD and let some people take control and make a biased poll that made me argue and post stuff to a very political degree and annoying as hell. The result?

No ratings.

But this is actually the first time I’m doing it out of a habit. I’ve been in LD for some years now (I entered 4 times over the years, had 3 entries) and I felt like I just couldn’t stand another 4 months without a Ludum Dare. It’s the first time I’m doing it for me and because I need this like any good vacation other people might have on their minds.

Of course, this is going to be the only time I’ll do it like that. Getting a good feedback is important to me and so one time is more than enough iterations for making LD for myself alone with no other incentive.

Hope this community will wake the hell up but until then… I’m in as usual – just another game dev hobbyst! 😀

And these are my tools:

Art: My usuals

  1. GIMP
  2. Blender
  3. darkFunction editor
  4. Spriter
  5. PyxelEdit
  6. pixlr

Music:

1. Audacity

2. musagi

3. Instruments at home – Yamaha keyboard, Court electric guitar, Pedals..

Programming:

1. My new JS Canvas basic library – JSCF (GitHub)

2. C++ DirectX 2D simple framework (GitHub)

3. Blender Game Engine

Obligatory “I’m In” and procedural weapons

I don’t really have much in the way of plans or anything so I suppose this post is just tradition.

I’ll be participating solo. I would normally prefer to use Unity or Unreal for this but my desktop is having issues so I’ll be doing something more simple with html5 or webgl on my laptop. Likely try something online/multiplayer with websockets cause that is kinda my thing

None of the posts have really caught my attention, I’ll try to brainstorm a bit today during work for each of the finals.

I am a fan of procedural generation and like excuses to play around. Every month /r/proceduralgeneration runs a new challenge, this month is Procedural Weapons ( https://www.reddit.com/r/proceduralgeneration/comments/4wubjy/monthly_challenge_9_august_2016_procedural_weapons/ ) . This could be a good way to play with something for that challenge and incorporate into a game although tying it to some of these things could be tricky.

I’m in!

So, I have participated at Ludum Dare before, but that was some time ago and on another account, so I guess I’ll have a go this weekend!

My tools:

 Engine: Unity

 Graphics: Gimp/Blender

 Sounds: Bfxr

 Music: BeepBox?

The only problem is I don’t know if I am going to have enough time to acutally finish the game 😛

(Just though I’d let everyone know that if you’re going to link your Ludum Dare account with Twitter, don’t use a link, just the name that comes after the @ sign 😉 )

I’m in !

My second Ludum Dare and hopefully not my last !

I’ll be working solo with Duality.

I’m In!

This is my first LD, I’m more than a little nervous, but I’ll give it a shot.  I will most likely be using: Unity, Aseprite, Photoshop, Blender, and BFXR. Depending on the design.

I feel you!

I can’t wait for it to start so I can actually finish a game for a change.

I’m in!

Phaser, Typescript/Javascript, Bfxr, Node?, Audacity…

I’m also working on publishing a Phaser template/boilerplate project with Typescript and some examples set up.

Good luck everyone! I’m excited to see what you create.

Here we go!

We are very excited to participate in our 4th LD!

We will use:

Engine: Unity

Graphics: Illustrator, Photoshop and Pyxel Edit

Audio: Audacity, Bfxr

Good luck everybody!!

OH CRAP I’M LATE! (and in!)

Yesterday I come home and open up the #ludumdare IRC and guess what,  LUDUMDARE IS STARTING SOON.

So, I haven’t got anything set up! yay! Maybe I can still do it.

So yeah, I’m in I guess 😀

I’m in.

This will be the fourth time, although I only managed to submit an entry on my first ever LD. Something I learned from my failure last time would probably be to keep sugar intake to a minimum. You get tired quickly after the sugar rush. 😉

I’ll be entering the JAM, most likely using these tools:

  • Love2D
  • Notepad++
  • Aseprite
  • OpenMPT + JuceOPL VST Plugin
  • BeepBox
  • JFXR
  • Git

I’m going to try out Git for this, as I’ve never used anything similar before, and I’d like to learn. BeepBox will be for prototyping music, but I might fall back to it, or LMMS, if OpenMPT turns out to be too difficult or slow.

Have fun. 😀

in for ld36

Hola!!

I going to  make a game for the compo this time, i going to try pico 8 , unless i change my mind today and use other tools…

let’s all do our best!

I’m in!

Hello In, I’m dad!

This will be my second LD, but even so I managed to come completely unprepared. I will try to make y’all have fun playing nonetheless. I wish I could just skip this weekend and just play all your games.

I will probably be using Unity and Clip Studio Paint.

Happy jamming!!

Count us in! More people from Moldova!

Hello everyone. We’re so excited because this is our first LD.
We will use:
Engine: Unity3D
Gpx: Photoshop, Sai
Sfx: Audacity maybe?)
Google docs to keep notes, tables and other stuff in easy access.

I hope we will finish our game in time.
Good luck everyone! We’re expecting to see a lot of awesome games.

Are you the Epic Sax Guy?

I am in (probably with a horror story)

Screenshot 1454x909_1

I recently published two horror games (interactive stories, to be exact) for different jams. I hope I can find a good story with the theme that will be announced 8 hours later. If it will be a horror story, I will use my own Choose Your Adventure system that I coded for Unity for the previous games.

In case you wonder those horror games, they are The Doll (for MeatlyJam) and After Funeral (for 4HourJam, but it took me 16 hours!).

Hey man, where can I found those other jams?
28. Aug 2016 · 03:21 UTC
I can second the notion that GameJolt & Itch.io are good place to find thematic game jam challenges.. sometimes Newgrounds hosts them too :-)

Let’s rock and roll!

I’m feeling a bit nerveous about my first LD. Anyway, this time I’m about to finish my game and post it!

Tools to use:

  • Unity3d, for fast prototyping;
  • vim, because it’s awsome;
  • GIMP as the best bitmap editor I found;
  • bfxr, because it’s pretty simple;
  • Bosca Ceoil, if I’ll manage to write a melody.

So, let’s do this! Good luck, everyone!

I’m in!

First time participant here.  Looking forward to playing others games and having others play mine.  (and having them let me know how much they hate it) 😀  I’ve never completed a game before, but I’ve have tinkered with several game engines, so this is definitely going to be a challenge!

  • Language/IDE: Java/Android Studio
  • Engine: libgdx (Android, Desktop, Web, maybe iOS)
  • Graphics: Pen(cil)/Paper, Pixelmator
  • Music/Sound: Audacity, maybe some Ableton Live (time allowing)
  • Beverages: New Belgium Snapshot, Monster Energy Drink, Coffee, maybe some water

Good luck everyone!  Happy coding!

Blender?
GIMP

We’re in!

Hi!

Some days ago I just met some people in the train, and it turned out they are talented artists and designers in search of programmers (They are ButtShark, and they work in animation).

And guess what? I’m a programmer!

So we just kept contact on Twitter, and we decided to try to work together for the first time on this Ludum Dare!

We’ll also work with a really talented musician friend, Pierre Vanier.

I lost my laptop recently, so I’ll just use a old computer with
Unity, Microsoft Visual Studio, Gimp, Audacity and Spriter Pro.

I hope everything will be fine!

Good luck to everyone!

I’m In !

The Ludum Dare just started in my kitchen !

Tomato tart, Quiche Lorraine and a lot of Croque-Monsieur are in progress….

Even if I don’t succeed to finish my game, I will eat well ! :)

And otherwise, it will probably be UE4 and Blender, using a “special” game controller of my own. 😉

I’m prepared and in

This time i’ll be using a new (for me) engine: Godot (which means i might actually make a more gamey game), so i took some time to learn it (resulting in this).

Other tools:

  • Music & sound: Ardour, possibly also Audacity
  • Graphics: Krita, possibly Synfig
  • VCS: git

This time i hope to actually make it in compo.

I’m in

I’m in (second time).

I will use:

-Unity

-C#

-Monodevelop

-Paint.NET

-GIMP

-Audacity

Planning to release on Windows, Linux, Mac OS, Web gl and maybe android…

Have fun and good luck!

We’re In! (Round 6!)

Well, it’s my 6th go at this, but I’m bringing a buddy so he can have some fun with it too. 😀

Tools

Unity for Code

Pyxel Edit for Art

Soundation for Music (Not my job thankfully)

BFXR for Sound

and Travis (another friend) for motivation/ideas/playtesting etc.

Good luck everyone! I look forward to see what we all accomplish!

Giving the Jam a half-assed attempt

Hi all,

I have been looking forward to participate in Ludum Dare for quite some time now. My last entry was submitted about a year ago now.

That being said, I do not have a x86 based stationary computer running Windows. I might find a work-around for that, but until then I’m using a old Macbook running OS X 10.6 and a Raspberry Pi 3 running Raspbian for development. Hilarious.

Regardless, I plan on drinking a lot, hanging out with my girl friend a lot, and coding a lot. That should make for one heck of a Ludum Dare.

I am still on the fence about what technologies to use for development. I am unsure if I can even compile MAGE2D (my game engine made specifically for speeding up Ludum Dare development) on the Raspberry Pi (I am unsure what versions of OpenGL and/or OpenGL ES that the Pi 3 supports). Furthermore, I am unsure in what regard I might need to change my C++ code in both MAGE2D and MiniLib (which is a small library containing useful data structures for generic use, mathematics, graphics, and SIMD arithmetic) in order to make it run and not crash on an ARM processor. Because of this, I am investigating the possibility to use other, cross-platform technologies, to develop the game such as C#, Java, and even Javascript (that last one really makes me scared).

Some of the tools I will use may or may not include:

  • C++, C#, Java, or Javascript
  • MiniLib (which is a small library containing useful data structures for generic use, mathematics, graphics, and SIMD arithmetic) and MAGE2D (my game engine made specifically for speeding up Ludum Dare development)
  • Qt Creator (for C++)
  • Monodevelop (for C#)
  • Netbeans (for Java)
  • Any text editor for Javascript
  • GIMP for image creation
  • SFXR for sound creation

I wish myself the best of luck and every one else participating misfortune! I am going to need it.

Ok. I’m in!

Ok, I’m in but I’m so nervous because this is my first jam!

I’ve only 1 year of experience with Unity and 2 weeks with GameMaker: Studio but I’ve decided:

  • GameMaker: Studio
  • Photoshop
  • No idea: maybe bfxr, audacity, garage band?

I hope to make something 😉

I’m in!

This is my first time participating in Ludum Dare, but not my first game jam!

The tools that I plan on using are:

  • Either Unity or Gamemaker (depending on what my friend prefers) (Engine)
  • Adobe Photoshop (Art)
  • Adobe Illustrator (Art)
  • Garageband (Sound/Music)

We’re in!

Me and a small group of friends are working together this time.  So we’re all in and ready to go for tonight.

Framework • Monogame 3.5
Art • Paint .net / Gimp / GraphicsGale
Audio • SFXR / BFXR / Audacity
Timemap Editor • Tiled

In again!

This time I’m participating with a friend! Really excited to get the ball rolling.

Tools:

  • Unity3d
  • Pixen for 2d graphics
  • GarageBand for music
  • Bfxr for sound effects

If we decide on using 3d I think I’ll go for Blender, but I haven’t used it in years so we’ll see.

I am in the same boat regarding Blender – except I have hardly used it at all =) I have a 3DSMax background but I have no access to that so I’ll be attempting what I can in Blender. Good luck!

Streaming this LD !

Hey guys! There are less than 7 hours and ludum darey starts! So if you wanna see me live coding my game, you can! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2fikYEem8CM

I’m in!

This will be the second Ludum Dare that I will enter.

I’ll be using C++ and SDL2 for the programming.

Art will probably be done in either Gimp or paint.net.

Sound will probably be taken from the huge free Sonniss game audio bundles.

I’m in!

Hey everyone! I’m looking forward to trying this out, and seeing what I can come up with.

I’ll be using Unity for programming, and Gimp and/or Blender for art, depending on whether I decide to go 2d or 3d. I don’t know if I’ll get around to any audio.

Game jam fuel

LudumDare is about to begin!!

I have the house to myself so it’s nice and quiet. I whipped up a couple spicy (raw habanero) krab rolls and a miso soup that I can nibble on prior/during the theme announcement. Cheers all. Let’s make this an awesome game jam!!

It sucks to be me

Yet another Ludum Dare I can’t participate. I need to finish some other projects I’m working on before having the pleasure to spent 48 hours making a game.

Geez, maybe next time, God willing.

I’m in!

This will be my first time with Ludum Dare. I’m still relatively new to making games, but I believe this will be a good way to test out my knowledge and push myself to create something small and finished.

Tools I’ll be using are:
– Gamemaker Studio Pro (programming)
– Aseprite (art)
– SFXR (sound effects)
– Most likely will have to use open source music, but will attempt to make something in Sunvox if time allows.

First time trying Ludum Dare and I’m in!

I’m both scared and excited. I’ve been studying how to build games in Unity for a few weeks now and I feel moderately confident that I can put something small together this weekend.

Trial by fire, let’s do this!

I’m in!

This is my first Ludum Dare!

Code: Unity

Art: Blender

Music (if there is time): Bfxr

For the first time, I’m in!

Been wating to do a LDJam for over a year but something has always come in the way. Travels. Visit from mother-in-law (although I wish I had participated in LDJam that time!) Now, I’m unprepared in terms refreshing/homing my skills in the tools I’ll be using – especially Blender if I need that – but I’m ready to give it a go anyway!

Weapons of choice:

  • Unity3D 5.3
  • Photoshop CC
  • Sound Forge Pro 11 (SFX)
  • Cubase 7.5 (Music)
  • Blender (I will be swearing at times here!)
  • …and whatever else I need that I have

I will still aim to ride motocross on Sunday. Go to a dinner party on Sunday evening. And spend time with wife and kids during the weekend. Still, I’ll do my best with LDJam =) I’ve rigged OBS to record and potentially stream :)

I’m in Sweden so now I’m off to bed (20:30 pm) so I can get up at 02:00 and finalize everything for the whistle at 03:00.

Good luck everyone!

Stefan / Imphenzia

Another Ludum Dare

Hello all again! I will be participating in another ludum dare! I do not have much time to write this post because I am doing homework so I can work through the full 48 hours. It does sadden me that they will not be rated by the fellow ludum dareites but It is whatever. Depending on how well this game goes, I might actually be able to use it for a class so yay!

Cheers!

tools:

  • graphics: Photoshop or paint.net
  • engine: libgdx
  • sound: hopefully
  • language: Java
  • time: hopefully all of it!

I’m in

I’m in, no promises on if it’ll be good or even done.

I’ll be using a haxe engine of my own design,

Paint.net for pictures

Bosca Ceoil for music

Audacity for other sounds (hopefully)

We’re In!

The Tesla Cools is a team consisting of 3 artists and 3 programmers. Some of us are veterans, others new. This’ll be our first project as a team

We will be writing our game using Typescript, using either

Phaser.js or a custom engine built on CreateJS.

We’ll use FL studio for music.

Our art suite is varied and partly TBD.

I will participate for the first time :)

Never done any gamedevelopment before and really looking forward trying it out.

Will team up with a friend and we will be using unity.

Later!

I’m in!

This time I’m going to use some reliable and more RAD tech, namely libgdx to get something real to work

Looking forward to tomorrow!

Im In!

First time participating in a Ludum Dare.

Programming: Unity

Graphics: Paint.NET/Blender

Music: Something(If anything)?

I’m in, again!

I’m in for my second LD

I’ll use:

  • My own java game engine (OpenGL)
  • GIMP

See you tomorrow 😉

In once again!

Alone this time around, but I’m in!

No good reason to repeat the old tool list that does not change too much, so have this instead:

~~ RaysAndLazors Questing Log ~~
Main quest: Work on monday! Better fit in the 2 day compo limit this time!
Optional quest: You have just downloaded a trial of Cubase. Make sure your game has some funky music!
Optional quest: Use your nifty little sound recorder to prepare some SFX for the game.
Optional quest [0/10]: Publish 10 blogposts with meaningful information about your game.
Super optional but highly appreciated quest: Make your game about cats!

~~ Completed ~~
Main quest: Set up a git repo before the jam starts.
Optional quest: Have at least one idea written down for every possible theme.
Optional quest: Take a nap before the theme announcement

Zzz…

I’m In!

Let’s see… I have participated in 3 Ludum Dare’s with various teammates… so this will be my 4th.  But it sounds like I will be the only one on my team this time!  I hope I can live up to our previous entries!

Ld hl,inState \ ld (hl),1

If eveey thing goes alright, this will be my second ludum dare :)

Language: java

Libs: LWJGL

Audio/music: I was originally planning to use my fender guitar + amp + random audio recording progam to record music/sounds, but given that I messed up restringing the guitar and have no other strings ime afraid I won’t be able to :8

I will most likely make something 2D, but a 3D project won’t be entirely out of the question.

I’m in!

This will be my 2nd LD.
My tools will be:

            Language: Java

            IDE: Eclipse

            Graphics: Paint.net

            Sound: Audacity

Good luck to everyone. :)

I’m In Again!

Hey guys!

This is my 3rd time doing Ludum Dare, and I am HYPED, baby!

This is my second ludumdare. I hope I’ll finish as well as the previous one.

Tools:

Game engine: Game Maker Studio
Graphics: Pyxel Edit, Aseprite
Sound: Bfrx, and music? I don’t know, Maybe I need some help from someone

I will focus in a 2D game. See you.

TurretBox ready to dev!

We are so hyped for this years Ludum dare, whit a upgraded engine and new experience mixed with the old. We are confident that we can contribute with something great.

Should be in

Wasn’t around for the past couple ludum dares, but if this one has a good theme I’ll definitely be taking part.

I’ll be using Unity, Photoshop and if I have time to make sound, FL studio.

I’m in, yadda yadda.

I’m in for the umpteenth time. I never finish my game, so this time I’ll set a low bar of just submit whatever I’ll create.

Tools:

  • Unity (engine) + VS2015 (editor)
  • SAI (drawing) + Spriter (animation) + Photoshop CS2 (other imaging stuff)
  • Bfxr (sound) + AudioTool (music) + Audacity (other sound stuff)

My template is at https://github.com/tkesgar/unity-boilerplate.

The plan is just to create a simple 2D PC/HTML5 game. Hope I’ll finish it this time.

London Dare!

Obviously, I’m in.

Lots of things happened and will still be happening during this weekend … Notably, moved to London (ICL, woo) for my studies. Saturday afternoon is when we should check in at our new place, so hopefully I can get something done in a café with wi-fi nearby.

In other news, a new wallpaper.

And that link above now leads to my brand new server somewhere in the Netherlands. The domain is more appropriate now. :)

I’ve been trying to improve my workflow too, to spend less time on the repetitive tasks. Right now, I have all of these to make my life easier:

  • TotalSpaces – creates a grid of 3 x 3 desktops, 3rd party programme for this since OS X doesn’t allow it anymore
  • TotalTerminal – a terminal ‘visor’ that’s accessible from anywhere, anytime using a single keystroke
  • autobuild – a utility that I wrote that captures system-wide keystrokes and listens for a particular one (fn-a or fn-r) to build and run my code in the background; automatically activates the terminal and shows the correct tab if there’s an error; plays sound cues depending on the build result
  • TextMate – almost perfect for my coding needs

Whenever I update assets in-game, the process is currently:

  • Make the changes in Photoshop
  • Save, Save as … select PNG, select correct filename
  • Recompile game
  • Rerun game
  • Repeat if not satisfied

This is kinda slow … I’m considering writing a script that would detect changes to Photoshop .psd files and use ImageMagick to automatically create .png versions. And then, an Asset manager for my ever-expanding library (to be released, of course) which would update the assets in-game live? If I can make it in time.

Hopefully this LD is interesting enough for all of us even without the ratings. Good luck!

I, also, am in.

Wow, it’s been a couple of years since I did the last one. Since then I have made several small prototypes, been part of a handful of game projects in varying states of incompletion, started studying game development in the local polytechnic university and, just a couple of days ago, getting a freelance job offer from an ad agency. Funny how doing a game jam can take you places, huh?

This week I made a game portfolio for myself and realized that I have not made a single 3D game. During summer I was a programmer in a Unity-based 2D-platformer, and this time I was planning to use my newfound experience in C# to make a game with more… depth.

… I’ll get my coat.

So. Unity for development, Photoshop for general graphics related tinkering, sfxr for sound effects, probably. I have practically zero experience in modeling so I’m definitely going to use a lot of sprites. Maybe I’ll just snap some pics of random household objects and call it a day.

Good luck, everyone!

We’re in!

Using C#, Visual Studio, Monogame, GIMP, PIXLR, LMMS, BFXR, we’re gonna do our best!

Feeling the hype already?

Uhuh Ludum Dare 36 is scheduled to start in less than 5 hours, and although I’m not going to start in that time (but only 4 hours later) I’m already totally excited 😀

What are your preferred themes? I like “behind the wall” and “one room” especially, and also “Ancient technology” is not that bad. Do you already have some ideas?

Anyways, good luck to everyone and have a great weekend!

I’m down this time

Unfortunately I’ll be on vacation this weekend, and will not be joining the fun. Hope you all have good fun and get a good game going guys.

Keep up the good spirit! :)
