LD36 August 26–29, 2016

I’m In

Time to make a game in a weekend again. I didn’t get to finish my game last time. I’m hoping nothing comes up this time. I told myself I was going to learn Unity so I could make a web version of my game but I never did. Going to be using MonoGame again. It’s a great framework, especially for 2D games. It should be a really fun jam and I hope everybody has a good time.

What I’m using:

  • Visual Studio 2015 (C#)
  • MonoGame 3.5
  • BFXR
  • GIMP
  • MS Paint

I’M IN!

To release a web friendly adventure with Visionaire Studio and Spriter Pro!

If it isn’t obvious- the ancient technology theme has thrust me back into dinos, so more better dinos this time! So much for eco-sized web friendly.

We’re IN!

Come watch our Twitch stream! We’ll be suffering all day long and we’re all losers so it’ll be great.

Engine: Unity (Me)
Music: Beepbox (Blair)
Models: Blender (Reina)
Graphics: Various (Reina & Savannah)

Nice nice nice!!

I’m In

I’m in for LD 36.  Going to likely be using Flashpunk library again, and FL Studio for music.  I have a lot of other stuff going on this weekend, so I’m not sure if I can make something substantial, we’ll see.  I also don’t have an idea what kind of game I want to try for this time, either – likely will aim for something simpler because of my other time commitments.

My Base Code for LD 36

Once again I will be using my base code that I have built up since LD 26. It is written in JavaScript and can be used to create HTML5/canvas games. You can find the base code on github: https://github.com/ZYXer-/base-code-2d

Features:
– a simple game loop
– mouse/keyboard input processing
– image/sound preloading

Additional classes for:
– playing sounds (using SoundManager2)
– loading and displaying PNG fonts
– particle systems
– pathfinding (using A*)
– image processing class to generate 8-bit style graphics

Since the last compo I have added a color class, a vector class and a toggleable function which resizes the canvas to the size of the window.

I’m distributing the code under the GPL2 license, so feel free to use any part of it for your own project. And please – like always – report any bugs 😉

Searching for artists

Needed: An artist to help out with art for this Ludum Dare. Comment your Skype name below and I’ll get in contact with you

I’m In.

Never finished a game up to this point, but Im really excited to.

Prob, gonna use GameMaker and Photoshop because i am new, But I don’t care. Makes it fun!

However, I might opt out of music. I was never good at making it in a short amount of time.

Timelapse interval

Hey guys,

I decided to participate in the LD and plan to create a timelapse video of the development process. What interval for the frame captures would you suggest? I don’t have any experience with it so I’d appreciate it if someone who has already made a coding / gamedev timelapse can help me. Thanks!

I suggest using OBS (Open Broadcast Software) and speed up the footage. It looks better than capturing frames :)

All in for LD36!

I haven’t participated in Ludum Dare for a couple of years. Now is as good a time as any to get back in to it!

Tools:

Engine: Unity

Art: Aseprite

Music: FL Studio

Sound FX: chiptone

Good luck to all, and have fun!

Getting Ready

Despite the fact that I got an hour sleep and I was not awaken by a blaring alarm, but the feeling of nausea, I actually managed to see the countdown before theme release for a first time! The competition starts at 2:00AM in Britain so i’m doing great over here. I hope to not only make a game out of this, but also a short film/timelapse. Anyway, good luck everyone!

I’m in!

This is going to be my 6th Ludum Dare. Last time I didn’t participate in the voting so I was hoping to be able to do that this time. I guess not. 😛

I meant to work on my custom game library before the jam (it’s sort of a tradition) but I never got around to it. This is kind of a problem because right now raycasted collisions are broken so I probably won’t be making a platformer this time 😉

The good news is that this will boost my creativity a little, as my past two games (as well as my first one) were all platformers so this will be something different, and that will be refreshing.

That is, of course, if I can manage to wrangle my game library into submission. 😛

I’m In!

This will be my second Ludum Dare! I’ll be looking to up my narrative design skills by using Twine and Piskel.

Good luck everyone!

TWO HOURS?

Back again!

I’m moving soon and still have a bit of packing to do, but I think I’ll have enough time to make a game this weekend.

Will definitely be using Unity. Code will be on Github. Probably use BFXR, Musagi, and Audacity for sound. Other tools TBA, depending on what I decide to make.

I’ve also recently gotten a better graphics card, so I might try to do some Twitch streaming later on in the jam. Will be my first time streaming any kind of development. Not really interested in streaming coding, but a level design stream could be fun.

I’m really hoping for Ancient Technology or A Different Kind of Combat.

Good luck everyone!

Alack the Day! And it’s playful night…

Greetings fellow LD36’ers!

First attempt at an LD submission. But not my first game jam 😉

Target: WebRTC multi-user game, 2D Canvas, HTML5. Deployed to App Engine.

Procedural generation of all art assets. Mining the collective Noosphere for creative leanings. And enjoying the journey more than the destination #zen

It’s On Like Donkey-Kong, and I’m In Like Winston!

See that? Two monkeys in one title. That’s the kind of talent I bring to this hoo-ha.

Anyways, LudumDare is back baby! Let’s do this all proper-like with a post about the snazzy tools I’ll be using this time round:

SUPERPOWERS HTML5 – Game Engine

ASEPRITE – Pixel Art Tool

GIMP – For Any Non-Pixel Graphics

AUDACITY – Audio Editing

Bread for food, possibly water if I’m feeling adventurous.

Hope everyone has fun this time round and makes something cool!

Gooooooood luck everyone :)

💪💪💪👌👌👌👍👍👍

Good luck to you, my good person!

I’m in for the Jam

Tools:

UE4

Photoshop

Visual Studio

Took time off work to give myself the best shot at this. My main goal is to just get a grasp of UE4 and C++. Bonus points if I get something that resembles a game. Will be continuing with Ben Tristem’s UE4 course https://www.udemy.com/unrealcourse/ during the jam.

Best of luck to everyone.

First Ludum Dare

Did some comic jams and game jams before but its gonna be my first Ludum Dare. Looking forward to all the games after the weekend. Good luck yall!

Will be using:  Construct2 – Graphics Gale – ClipArt Studio – Magik Music Maker – SFX and my old fasion pencil, marker and paper.

I’m tentatively in for LD36!

For now I’m in, but if I don’t feel I can do anything interesting with the theme I might drop out.

Framework: HaxeFlixel

IDE: HaxeDevelop

Art: PyxelEdit

Sound: SFXR

Music: FLStudio

5th entry.

Will probably be using Unity3D, blender, lmms but it depends on the theme.

Good Luck!

Scheming and scheming

I’ve had at least a day to come up with ideas in case Ancient Technology might be the winner. Seems most likely if it was voted considerably higher than other themes, but who knows?

My own ability will still be a considerable constraint, My current abilities are best focused on top-down environments, though I should be skilled to code platformers without issue now. I definitely need to be heavy on animations =)

*ramble ramble*

How’s everyone else with their pre-jam brainstorming?

I’m in!

I don’t if I made one of these already or not? Meh…

I’m not sure how many Ludum Dare’s I’ve done but I started in August 2012, not just Ludum Dare but Game Development in general. So this is my 4 year Game Dev Anniversary!

I will be using Unity 3D and Visual Studio Community to develop the game. As well, I will be using Adobe Photoshop CC for art and Adobe Auditon CC for any sound editing.

Of course, I’ll be streaming all of my progress over on my Twitch channel and I will probably be keeping my Twitter updated!

Happy Coding!

We’re in! (live stream?)

A three person team this time. Tools: Unity, Photoshop, Garageband and various others!

We made the kind of crazy decision to live stream our jam this time around, so check out if you want to:

Congratulations, your account is now validated :)

Less 1 hour to go!

If you don’t even know what tools you gonna use less than an hour away from start, then you are like me ! ^_^”
Here are a few cool tools I just found like 5 minutes ago:

For Sound effects: sfxrhttp://www.drpetter.se/project_sfxr.html
Found it in the tools page of ludum dare, I used it for like 2 min but I’m already in love with it. There is a randomize button, and basically without any knowledge about sounds and effects, just with a few clicks you can generate those perfect clicks, pews and ka-pows you need!

For Music: http://www.beepbox.co
Yep an online chiptune music creator, the website stores the song in the url so basically you can bookmark a song. I only managed to create one song so far and it took me like 2 days but considering that I have never created music before and I have the musical talent of a teaspoon, that’s not half bad!
The song: https://goo.gl/up15Kx

For Pixel art: http://www.piskelapp.com
This is an online pixel art and animation creator. I never used it before, but looks pretty straightforward an I love the idea that I don’t need to install anything.

And now I’m off to google an online IRC client so I can join the countdown.

ahh, built in online irc client, you just need to click on the irc address how nice!

I’m in. and I have no idea what to expect.

This is my first Ludum Dare, so I have no idea what to expect or do.
So, I’m nervous. (and I don’t even know if I’m doing this right!)

I will have two people helping me, which will probably help.
(and I also have someone who’s done this in the past explain some stuff to me, which is helpful.)

I will be participating in the jam, because it’s both easier and allows a team.

The team will be:

  • Skye (This is me!)
  • trajing
  • Striking

Anyway, I have no idea what I’m doing, hopefully this’ll be fun!

Oh God I could be in

I’m supposed to say, right? Just covering my bases.

Let’s DO THIS

For VIDEO GAMESSSS!

Lol Good luck to everyone.

Late “I’m in” post

I’m in for a second try at Ludum Dare. My first one was a year ago, and I really overestimated what I could do in such a small amount of time. For this time, I have drastically changed my tools and learned enormous amounts of programming skills since then, which should help a lot. I also hopefully got my streaming setup right this time. Like last time, I’m entering the jam in solo, because my friend who was interested in participating with me had some other appointments already.

If you would like to follow my progress, you will be able to find it on twitch (https://www.twitch.tv/thatrepixelated/) hopefully starting between 7:30am and 8:00am GMT time. I will also get my timelapse sorted and most important of all, create something amazing (that I can hopefully post) and enjoy myself in the process.

Thanks for reading! Everyone, have a great Ludum Dare!

As usual, using C++/SFML/OpenGL with my framework: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/4826080/LD36%20Base.zip

Might be using Bullet Physics if the theme suggests.

This Ludum Dare snuck up on me, but I should still be able to get something out. Unity & Gimp as normal.

In for another Ludum Dare

I feel slightly unprepared (what warmup weekend?), but I’m in for the compo anyway.

Language: Java

Framework: LibGDX  (Base code)

Sounds: bfxr (and whatever else I can find)

Good luck everyone!!

I’m in !

I’ll be using C++ with SFML

I’ll try to finish a game even if I wont be able to code the whole week-end.

I’m in, baby! Again!

Hopefully, I ‘ll get something done this time!  Can’t wait to see the theme!

I’ll be using:

  • Unity
  • Visual Studio
  • Photoshop
  • Bosca Ceoil
  • Aseprite or 3DS Max, depending on how the theme is.

As usual, I’m mega-excited to see everyone’s efforts, and I wish everyone the very best of luck! Go everybody, go!

I’m In! (I always want to make this title more interesting…but can’t ever think of anything…)

This may be one of the first times where I actually posted the “I’m In” before Ludum Dare started. (Less then 17 minutes to go though :) I’m extremely tired to the point where I want to instantly pass out, but i’m going to try and wait for the theme (I tend to think of more Ideas when i’m tired anyway).

My toolbox.

Engine: Unity 5 (I’ll have to try to use something different eventually…but not today my friend)

Language: C#

2d art: Gimp

3d art: Blender

Sound effects: Bfxr and/or Audacity

Music: Might make some guitar music if it fits my game. Otherwise I might try to quickly learn a easy music creation software. I’ve never put music in any of my LD games before, but if I have time, i’d like to try it.

In just as things are about to start!

Hey all! I’m in for the second time now, although it’s more like a first time since things didn’t really go that well last time I joined which was back in April. Never the less, I’m pretty confident that this time around things are going to go marvelously!

Since I’m still a newbie at this, I’ll be joining the Jam version with a friend, The_Moski who will be taking care of the art. Me personally, will be taking care of the programming (and hopefully the design) of the project. For tools I’ll be using Unity together with C#.

At this point I’m just waiting for the theme to be revealed so I can start up early in the morning tomorrow. We’ll be trying to post a DevLog at least everyday.

I’m really pumped for the journey that the next three days are going to be and I’m looking forward to checking the games that all of you are going to be creating! Good luck to all!

In!

Definitely in.

Good luck to all!

At the buzzer… base code.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/18sipx59a7upjhf/src082616.zip?dl=0

That’s what I have so far.

Is this even necessary given we’re not doing ratings?

I’m In…. Maybe.

Not sure if i’ll be finishing this Ludum Dare because I’m busy all day Saturday so I might just do the 72 hour jam, but it depends on the theme.

If I’m in ill be using Gamemaker: studio.

I’m in

I’m planning on using C this time around

Thoughts and or ideas about what you making and do you have any art or audio members on your team?

Sure I’m In Why Not

Let’s use Unity like all the cool kids. Art is probably Photoshop or Blender or whatever programs I can find on my computer.

I’m in!

This is super late! I won’t be able to spend as much time on my entry as usual, as I just entered into college, but I’ll try to submit something.

Per usual…

I’m making my game on a Windows Laptop.

Art will be courtesy of Aseprite and GIMP.

Music will be made with LSDJ on a Gameboy emulation program.

Sound effects will be made with LSDJ or SFXR.

I am creating the game as a whole using HTML5 game creation program Construct2.

I am in.

I have a lot going on this weekend, so I thought I’d skip this, but about an hour ago I decided, I’m in.

Streaming the progress!

Hey everybody,

i’m super excited about 36! if anyone is interested i will be streaming my whole process:

Since this is a little after the start and I’ve not announced anything, I’m going to start from ZERO!

nothing but a text editor and Typescript.

I didn’t mean to like my own and now I don’t know how to “unlike it”

Any Jam groups need a composer?

I don’t think I’ll be entering the compo this time around, I just don’t have any ideas for the theme.

But, I’d be willing to participate and write some music for a Jam team that needs it.  Reply here if you’d like a musician on your team.  I’d prefer a team that has entered the Jam before (and maybe just used stock music previously).

I love the theme. Fascinating. I’m afraid that I won’t be able to do 1/1000th of a game I wish I could do, so I will go with something really simple!

I’m using Unity (free edition). If time will allow, I will use Blender, Gimp and FL Studio to create assets :)

Multiple Jam entries?

Hey, would I be able to write music for multiple Jam entries, or is that frowned upon?  Does anyone know?

If so, maybe this time around I’ll just write lots o’ music for people.

Or, maybe I could make some assets for anyone to use?
