LD36 August 26–29, 2016

Obligatory “I’m In!” Post from me (LD 36) :D

obviously…i’m in! 😀

My 3rd LD, the last one i join is LD 34, hopefully the theme will be as fun as LD34 😀

I probably will use Unity3D engine for the game, cause…well, thats the only engine i familiar with for making a game, planning on using libGDX or Haxeflixel, but still need lot of practice on both of them, not quite comfortable yet to use for LD.

For art and stuff, will use GIMP or Paint.net, both is the only software that i ever used for light sprite drawing, since i’m not a good artist….or at least never try to be an artist lol

for Music and SFX will use the music/sound generator that i usually use.

can’t wait for weekend!, have fun everyone! 😀

I’am in!!!

I’am in. This is my first Ludum Dare. My goal is to make a fun playable game!!!

For the first time! I’m in!

Getting so exited for my first LD!

I will be using: Unity, Paint.NET and FamiTracker

Have fun everybody!

Are you using the default Java library or something like LWJGL or libGDX?

There’s a sixth time for everything – I’m in!

Ludum Dare is pretty much the best, so I’m doing it again. As I have every single Ludum Dare to date, I’m going to aim for the compo, with a good awareness that I’m going to miss the deadline. Either way, I’ll be following all the compo rules.

Toolchain is unchanged from last time, except for software updates:

  • Unity 5 with Visual Studio,
  • Photoshop for graphics,
  • ChipTone for sound effects,
  • REAPER and my iPad for music.

With respect to declaring code I may end up using: Aron Granberg’s A* library treats me well, so it will be on hand if I end up needing it. I also may yoink a few pieces of boilerplate or common utilities (level loader, resolution/aspect ratio correction, etc.) from my previous LD entries, which are all in my GitHub repo.

Game on!

I’m in!

Good day, LD members!

This will be my first LD, and i’m going to use:

  • Unity as game engine
  • Paint.NET as drawing program
  • Bosca Ceoil for soundtrack if i have time/understand to use it.
  • My skills to create something that atleast work, and be playable.

Good luck to everyone and remember, there is no rating this time, so have fun with your games.

Fellow game dev beginner from germany here.

This is my first time at ludum dare and i’m really exited!

On the tool site i’ll be using:

  • Java (+Hotswap Agent) with the awesome LibGDX framework
  • IntelliJ IDEA Community Edition as IDE
  • Git as VCS
  • Aseprite for pixel art
  • Probably Tiled as level editor
  • For fonts and sounds i have no clue yet

I wish everyone a good time and may you meet the deadline!

I’m in

I’ll make a game with:

Unity 5.3.4
UnityToykit
Vim 7.4 text editor
Flash Professional CS4 illustrator
ChipTones sound generator
autotracker music generator

I’m in!

This will be my second ludum dare, but the first one was catastrophe. I hope this one will be better.

As for software I’m using:

Game Maker Studio for programming,
Paint.net for graphics
and LMMS for music  (This will be my first time making music for a game LOL).

Wish you all best luck …

and a good theme!

Lol most of our first works will always be a catastrophe, but that’s what learning experiences are for!

Definitely in!

It has been over a year since I was able to participate in Ludum Dare. Most of the reasons were due to work schedule, but I was able to schedule a time to participate last December. I wished I had a working motherboard by the time that one rolled along though. Oh well.

This was the last piece I made for Ludum Dare before life happened:

This time around, I am very optimistic. A couple of upgrades to myself since last time:

  1. I can now write music! The last game jams I’ve done always had to make serious shortcuts with sound since I basically didn’t know how to get started with that. However, I’ve taken some time to at least get to a basic skill level where I can also juggle sound on top of my other skills
  2. I have a bit more experience as a programmer which hopefully means that my process is more streamlined than last time
  3. Lastly, I am definitely more confident in myself as a creative. While I didn’t have the time to participate in Ludum Dares, I definitely had time to work on my own projects which means, more experience under my belt

I have barely a week to figure out my game plan, but so far, I believe that I will start with some simple music and build my art direction based on what I write. I am very flexible as an artist but my music skills are still basic and will be my biggest creative constraint. I will likely go for a radically simpler style of art that I normally work with and instead, pour most of my effort into animation.

I will probably shoot for the compo instead of the jam this time around. Meanwhile, now would be a good time to practice musical composition and I hope to see where this Ludum Dare will go!

Even if the entries won’t be judged, I’m here for the bragging rights =)

My tools:

  • Graphicagale for art and animation
    • Logitech mouse for my drawing implement (lol)
  • GameMaker for code
  • Notepad++ if I decide to use data files (probably not, who knows?)
  • OpenMPT for sound and music
    • iRigKeys37 for my MIDI controller

As for me, it’s in!

This is my second Ludum Dare. I will be using:

Engine: Love2d, a lightweight Lua framework for games
IDE: Sublime Text
Art: Aseprite
Music: Renoise, a tracker on steroids
Sound: ChipTone

Good luck everyone! Please trying your best to make the video game!

HTML5 + Gamepad (SAMPLE CODE)

You want to make something that runs cross platform. You’re making a 2D game and want a simple but robust engine. You want gamepad support.

Well, here you are! A sample 2D Javascript (ES6) game engine that supports gamepad.

Objects can install multiple components. Messages sent to an object are heard only by the components who register to listen for them. This is done recursively so you can write modular code. For example, the WallBouncer class found in weapons.js will bounce an object off a wall based on the coordinate passed in for the wall

(In any of the 4 cardinal direction). Both the Ship and Rocket class make use of WallBouncer. Organize your code better to prevent headache!
Plug in an Xbox or PS4 controller, use the left & right shoulder buttons to turn your ship (the blue circle) and the A/X button to shoot. You and your projectiles bounce off the walls.

In for 4th time

I will join for my fourth time, last time i couldn’t finish my game, but this time i have more time and experience.

My tools will be:

Languaje: Javascirpt or LIBGDX (Not decided yet!!)

Codebase: https://github.com/wilthord/JSGE_A  (if HTML5)

Art: Paint.net  and   Spartan

Music(If there is time): beepbox and LMMS

SFX: BFXR or beepbox

Good Luck to everyone

AAGH Games is In Yet Again

After what was probably our most successful Ludum Dare yet, we at AAGH Games are back for our 6th consecutive jam. As per usual, we have myself, Budaniel as artist and programmer and Floata on audio and design. We’re going to live stream our progress on our Twitch channel like we always do, so over the course of the weekend if you’re taking a break from working on your own game, we’d love for you to stop by and say hi.

Good luck to everyone this coming weekend, and have fun.

We’re in!

We are 4 people so we’re going for the jam. LD35 was the first ludum we participated in together and it was lots of fun, so willing to do something fun this weekend too :)

I’m in once again!

Going to participate the compo once more! As always, it’s a combo of LibGDX / Android Studio, Audacity, Psycle, GIMP, Inkscape and Blender, whatever of those I need to use. Also, this will be the first time I’m going to work on a Linux system instead of a Windows one. :)

I’m in!

Yep, screw it. Lets see how far 2 months of knowledge gets me.

1st game jam.

Wish everyone good luck!!

(EDIT.  A friend is joining me, he’s working on just art, i’m working on everything else.)

  • Engine:      GameMaker:Studio v1.4.
  • FX:             BFXR
  • Music:       FLStudio.
  • Graphics:  Aseprite.

I’m in for the first time!

This is going to be my first time in ludum dare.
Im going to be using my own engine, it doesn’t have a name yet, I am going to use Paint.Net for art and sfxr for sound effects.

wish me luck!
