Everything is fine(ish)… maybe?

I have a few hundred lines of code that I have not tested yet and will not work for a while. I have tricked myself into thinking I have made some progress by making some nice art for my game…

Once everything 100% works (which will probably be tonight) then I mainly need level design, more graphics, and sounds/music.

Screen Shot 2013-08-24 at 12.51.18 PM

This is the awesome art in a map editor… Spent like 2 to 3 hours making the art so don’t say it looks bad OR ELSE… dun dun dun [INSERT doctor who theme song here]

If I get everything working the gameplay will be like this:

You die after 10 seconds and respawn. Things you change will stay changed once you respawn (If you pull the lever then die, the lever will stay in the position you set it to). So with those mechanics set in place you can go pull the lever with one life and run through the door that opened from you pulling the lever with the second life to get to the next checkpoint (the puzzles will get a lot more complex than this if my imagination allows).

My inspirations:

– Groundhog day

– Braid

Good luck to you all!

Not finished yet :(

And I don’t think I will finish today… Maybe rather than doing the compo I will do the jam… And if I fail the jam I am screwed…

Lesson learned: don’t focus on art (I made the best pixel art I have ever made in 2 hours).

Another lesson learned: don’t use libraries with bad documentation that you don’t know how to use.

And yet another lesson learned: don’t use programs you don’t know how to use.

And finally the last but not least lesson learned: believe in yourself a little more and stop making lists of everything you did wrong (well I guess I have not successfully learned that yet).

RULES QUESTION (music/sounds)

Would I be able to make/generate music that contains sounds that I have not made and then use that music in the compo?

If so, then would I be able to generate music in my game by playing those sounds that I have not created myself or would that not count because I am loading in sounds that I have not created?

Rules questions

So I have a few questions about what I can use in the compo:

1. Since I can use fonts, that means I can use any of the google fonts right?

2. Since I can use fonts, does that mean I can use fontAwesome for icons? (http://fortawesome.github.io/Font-Awesome/)

3. Music generated at http://www.fakemusicgenerator.com/ is allowed right?

Progress!

Character, guns, bullets! now working on procedurally generated dungeons to create some sort of roguelike?

Anagrams

Thinking about creating a kind of word game. If you imagine the letters of "UNSTABLE" being unstable themselves, what kinds of anagrams can be created with these letters?

SUN TABLE , NUL BEAST , STUNABLE , SABLE NUT , LUSTBANE , BEANSLUT , EAST BULN , BLASTUNE , LAB TUNES , SLAB TUNE , SABUNTEL , LENTUBAS , SLABUNET , BUNASTLE , NUBALETS , SEBULTAN , BASUNLET

Other words you can create with the letters of "UNSTABLE", but without strictly being anagrams: UNBEATABLE, TABULATES, SEATBELTS, SULTAN, NEBULAS, BLUEST, BUTANE, TUBAS... and many more!

Just some brainstorming, feel free to use any of these words / anagrams if they suit your game!

Text on screen

At least I have a solid idea. Not much to see yet but planning to get the core mechanics here done tonight because I'm going to have to spend tomorrow writing a lot of content for this game.

First day

Most core mechanics done, now time to write some content!

The core idea I've come up with is "unstable text" where you can click on a word and it will explode with different options to replace it. Then by replacing words you progress through a branching story.

I've been thinking of it as a "hardcore text adventure" because there will be some challenging and fast-paced moments where you have to think on your feet and click with agility. Quick demo of progress so far:

Dice...?

Thinking about making a lil' crokinole-chess-like dice-battler, a chaotic game of strategy and randomness where there's not much space on the board (or on your dice!). That's the plan anyway. For now, just getting up to speed with Godot.

Next up I'll be working on, like, the actual core gameplay loop.
