Our game is live on Steam

Hello, my fellow developers,

our game THE ADVENTURES OF SAM CARLISLE: THE HUNT FOR THE LOST TREASURE is now live on Steam.

It is a 2D platformer with puzzle elements. You need to help Sam to get his treasure back, but later found out that the treasure has some other value to Sam.

Go and buy it and tell us what you think of it.

I don’t want to be rude or anything like that.

But I would not pay more than 1$ or even that for that type of game.

We, the Watchers, have taken over this Jammer's account. It has been deemed by Security as an avenue through which the Watched may be warned about his status. Activity here is moderated and sent to a static copy of the ldjam site which only he sees. Outgoing content will be reviewed and certain content redacted as it becomes available.

Current information states that the Watched will be participating in Ludum Dare 40. He hopes with all his might the theme is not a Christmas one.

Head Over High Heels Would Was Great Enough for Grey’s Anatomy Aired on April 18, 2019

This installment was amazing enough for sure fans, Meredith debates how to handle an unexpected situation in her personal life, while Richard has an untimely reunion with an old friend. Jo has a hard time at work, and Owen tries therapy.

After previously from Good Shepherd: Amelia and Link travel to New York to operate on a patient with a severe spinal deformity, but they’re in for more than they bargained for when Amelia’s sister, Nancy, invites them to dinner at her home.

Amelia begs Link to pretend to be Owen, as she never told her family that they got divorced. With Amelia’s other sister, Kathleen, also present, dinner becomes a night of recalling Amelia’s mistakes as the “black sheep.” Things only worsen when their mother, Carolyn, joins them for dessert and is quick to point out Link and Amelia’s lie, as Carolyn has already met Owen.

When the conversation gets heated over Amelia’s brain tumor and sobriety, Link defends Amelia before they leave for the hospital. Following her patient’s successful surgery, Amelia has a long overdue heart-to-heart with Carolyn, who apologizes for not being there for her all these years. After making up with Link, Amelia returns back home and tells Meredith and Maggie about the trip.

What i do wrong?

Hi! Recently i made my second game for Android and publish it in Google Play. Sometime later i saw that it also doesn’t popular as my first game. Why? What i do wrong?

Preface about my last 2 years of development
In winter holydays in 2016 year i learned next books:
Clean Code: A Handbook of Agile Software Craftsmanship – Robert Martin;
Design Patterns: Elements of Reusable Object-Oriented Software – GOF;
Learning LibGDX Game Development – Suryakumar Balakrishnan Nair, Andreas Oehlke.

First step
After it I were start to develop my first real game (not prototype, full with main menu screen, pause and also leaderboard) one and half year ago. I published it in Google Play at 3 march 2017. Game like Pac Man about dormitory life. You need to run away from three girls, eat fruits and other dishes and collect coins.

About development
I were start from class diagram and go towards code over about one month. A lot of time took design. Top-view peoples is were 3d-models. Yes, it took many many time to learn 3D Max, Maya and put it to trash. In the end i chose Poser with standart Assets. After it i were need to animate characters that took also not less time. I animated characters in the same Poser. Next was other parts of design. It was beauty and simple. Sounds was getted from free sounds web resources.

Result
This game has 179 installs after publish, for more half year. Yes, it’s fiasco.
Link in Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ru.pascalman.dormitoryman

Second step
After my first big game i were join to Ludum Dare #38 with game ‘The Whole truth about Nature selection’. May be you saw it. And it was cool. I received comments and likes. It wasn’t popular, but it in any case was very cool expierence. I joined the Jam, although i wanted to join the Compo.

About development
I used my paper notepad for prototyping, Photoshop for fast design and Processing JS for code. Sounds was record in my kitchen on my Macbook.

Result
2 like on Openprocessing.org, about 700+/2500 place on ldjam.com in total rating.
Link in Openprocessing.org: https://www.openprocessing.org/sketch/422870

Third step
My last game was Simple and Classic Match 3 game. Game about Russian cities sights.

About development
I used Illustrator for design, LibGDX and Java for code, sounds from free sounds web recources.

Result
And after publish, 20 October 2017 it has 3 installs.
Link in Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ru.pascalman.traveljewel

Is there any advises?
I published news on my social media pages and it not working. I used best-practice for Google Play description decoration, made promo video and took good screenshots. It was my big mistake to make not candy Match 3? It’s normal? Maybe my games really not good? What do you think about it?
I will thank you for your any comments and advises.

I don’t really have any advice other than you would proably need to grow a fanbase.

But I do know it’s hard to compete with miljons off apps/games that already excist.
10. Nov 2017 · 16:38 UTC
I’m going to be kinda harsh and say that both those games don’t look very good. Your games don’t answer the question: Why should I play this game (as opposed to other games I could play)?
15. Nov 2017 · 14:18 UTC
It’s possible to do nothing “wrong” per se and still fail. You seem to look at this from a personal development perspective, which is odd: “I read all these books on agile and yet my game is failing” is a complete non sequitur.

Hi guys,

I just release a my game Doggy Bubble Shooter Rescue , on AppStore and PlayStore,

#LD40Compo - I'm in

This will be my second participation for this event. I am bringing along things that I have learned from the last event.

I am considering switching from GMS2 to Unity. This is in order to experiment different tools.

I will probably keep making pixel arts, considering how well it went last time :-)

Oh and my theme suggestions are: - Network - Automation - Collectibles

I wish you all a good flow of productivity!

Team bottocks are ready!

This is our first jam and we are super excited to participate!

Our theme suggestions: 1# Behind the scenes 2# Be the villain 3# With great power...

Ludum Dare 40 Jam

hacker voice We're in.

We're the Goon Squad, consisting of Dave aka Chronocide, Danilo aka Danilo and Mohawk aka Pandog. It's our first Ludum Dare Jam event, and we're pretty goddamn excited!

Our system of choice will be the TIC-80 (https://tic.computer/).

Joining in

Yay! It's THAT time of year again!

Traditionally working alone (which means graphics and sounds are going to suck deep). Toolbelt: - Unity - Krita - BFXR

Will try to make something more action-y this time... if theme allows, naturally.

I post too much

Just too exited. If you where around last LD you'll know I drunk a LOAD of Monster...And, ran out of time. This time I'm with another Programmer which means, I don't have to worry about fixing bugs.

I hope we'll make a pretty good game for LD40 and get up there with some of the best in LD40, just a little over 3 weeks to go and we begin!

I'm in for Ludum Dare 40 COMPO :D and theme suggestions

Hey everyone, LD40 is coming soon, this'll be my 3rd participation in Ludum Dare compo :D I look forward to seeing how much if at all i've managed to improve as well as trying out something new and conquering new challenges. :D

here are some theme suggestions from me:

  • Tower
  • Disappearing Time
  • You are the support
  • Treasure
  • Parasite
  • Abducted
  • Artifacts

p.s. I hope for a theme which would allow me to make a card game or a 2d fighter game xD been curious to try making 1 of those.

I'm in for LD40!

I'm in for 3rd time! This time I would like to go 3D, so I will use :

-Unity

-Blender

-Visual Studio Community 2017

I can't wait!

Theme Suggestions

After writing some cheap Pong and Space Invaders clones for NES/SNES, I thought I might join LD40 for the first time trying to write a game for one of those systems. Happy to converse/join powers with other 65c assembly aficionados.

So here are my theme suggestions: - Heresy - The Eye of the World - Sword in the Stone

Yes, I love WoT and Arthurian Legend. Here are my weapons of choice/toolbelt: - Editor: Atom is a open source editor developed by GitHub. Highly customizable with tons of packages. Like the vim mode. Using emacs is of course heresy. - Compiler/Assembler/Linker: The CC65 Suite has everything you need for writing code in C or assembly for the 65c02 or 65c816 MPUs. There are other assemblers with more NES/SNES or other platform specific instructions but I prefer this one for flexibility and the very thorough documentation. - Graphics: I bought Pro Motion NG about two weeks back and I am quite happy with it. There are still some features that one might miss but the developer is very responsive to requests and problems. It can export graphics in formats for various platforms like Amiga, C64, Game Boy Color, etc. (alas, no NES/SNES - yet). It was even released to Steam recently.

LD40 - Will Hopefully be in

I'm torn between going for LD 40 or playing in my once a month netrunner tournament. We shall see.. But I will suggest some themes. My three themes are:

Awkward Pauses

Pausing a game isn't often used as a useful mechanic so it would be interesting to see what people come up with. Also it could be used as a story theme instead of a mechanics theme.

Equivocation

Has a couple of different meanings which tends to lead to a bit more variety in the output of the jam but not too open ended as to be paralyzing (such as one of the theme choices from the last LD: protect it). In particular is used as a term in magic when you are forced into a choice but it seems like random chance or a free choice.

Blessed with Suck

This is the silly one. Essentially the gist is that you have a super power that is very inconvenient or completely useless and you must find a way to make it useful. I'm sure there are also story themes you could use with it as well.
http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/BlessedWithSuck

LD40 - Better not give up this time

Last time, I had an unbearable amount of distractions from really inconsiderate people thinking this didn't matter to me and tennis was more important XD. Anyways, here's my second go at game development under a time constraint. According to the internet, I suffer from Shiny Object Syndrome or whatever and all I had to do was make at least one game completely through to get started. So I made a space invaders, pong and geometry dash clone in a weekend. NOW I'M FINALLY READY!

Github's Atom Editor Goes without saying: this editor is extremely customizable and can do everything Sublime can so I'm a happily converted user.

GameMaker: Studio There's just a certain vibe with GMS1 vs 2. I tried out GMS2 and workstations aren't my thing even after using Unreal Engine blueprints for a relatively long time. I know that I should be trying new things but this is just preference so I'll be sticking with what makes me feel good :D

DragonBones Pro My first time using this was during the game jams first half hour and I loved every part of it. It bothered me to no end when I couldn't figure out what was wrong with the Bone Tool and there's not the best community and the biggest userbase behind it but I figured it out. At the time, I had no artist and did the art with a mouse and I made lifelike animations then and there and blew myself away. Since the other discord guys enjoyed the look, I'll definitely stick with this again.

After Effects I'm pretty much depending on my Videohive assets for the visuals. These assets are the same I use for video editing my Youtube content and have great effects for video games, too. I'll be utilizing my dying CC subscription for this. About CC, Photoshop will be replacing Affinity Photo until certain things are worked out in that program, it's bugs are resolved, it's gradient and smoothing tools (essential) are available and it stops having that strange unsatisfying background color.

Wish me luck! I'm trying to win the Ludum Dare alone again XD

EDIT: Forgot about the themes.

Ultra Fast-Paced: Come on. There's nothing better than dying of too much adrenaline. Atmospheric: What may seem the very opposite, I wanted to make a dark tense vibe while constantly expecting something to one-shot you on your last bit of HP. I doubt this is a proper theme but it's that important to me. Narrative-Based: Also one of the dumb ideas I had during the Ludum Dare that I thought I could pull off.

Ready for LD40

My LD39 game https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/39/$38217 don't get to much rating but this time i want to try make something different, something arcade and replayable

Good Luck

Gear up on the Ideas

Okay... 4th LD in a row. Time to get my thought straight, and what better way to do this than to throw them on a paper... virtual one at least.

So firstly - I am going to take part in 48-hour contest. I don't have a luxury of not going to work on Monday... So all my thoughs below are aimed at this timetable. If you are going for 72-hour version, some points might not be for you.

This time one thing is going to be really different for me. I am not going to be alone. I mean I am going to be working on the game alone, but my family is going to be around in the process. On one hand this is obviously going to be a distraction. Especially from my 8 year old son. But on the other hand I will have some help providing some basic needs - like food and drinks. And I wouldn't have to scrape time for other house chores. Hopefully.

Another thing I want to try is to make a game more action-based. All my previous entries (both published and unpublished) were puzzles. And while they got some positive feedback, they as a class seem to be less... well... exciting. So this time I am going to aim for something different. And yes - I am not going to aim high on the theme-relation score. If I can think of a suitable theme application for an action game - good. If I can't think of any clever way - I will just roll with it and shoehorn it in and not mourn too much over it. ((Not that I am going to be the only one in that department anyway))

Now what I am going to do similarly to the last event:

Don't wait for theme announcement. I live in a timezone that is poorly suited for witnessing the theme announcement (and associated website spontaneous DDOSing). So I will just get my healthy sleep and check the theme in the morning. Yes I could check the theme and go to bed hoping to dream up some clever game-idea in my sleep, but my first two LDs indicated that this will end up either in me being too excited to have good sleep and thus poorly fit for work on Saturday. Or I will simply sleep late into the Saturday to compensate and waste more valuable hours.

Remember 80/20 rule 80% of work is done in the first 20% of time. And mote importantly - final 20% of work will take you 4 times longer than the first 80% did. So don't get stuck polishing stuff! If it is 80% as good as you imagined it to be - roll with it. You might have some time later to polish it a bit... but if it is not functionally holding you back from progressing the game overall - just let it be. And if it is already past mid-Saturday and you don't have a fully functional prototype (which is likely to be true) - this is 90% clear sign that you don't have time to polish and you'll end up with some half-assed assets. Don't stress about it though. The event is not about making AAA-level game in 48 hours. And stressing wouldn't help you anyway...

Actually I think it is important enough to put it into a separate point - Don't get stressed. Stress leads to anxiety, anxiety leads to rushed decisions and rushed decisions lead to poor results and wasted time. And a good way of not getting stressed is to keep as much info as you can outside of your head. Plans, Ideas, Sketches - put as much as you can out of your head. No matter which way - electronic notes, paper drawings, audio logs. Anything. But don't keep things in your head.

Will we EVER have a working site for LD?

I'm already tired to bring up this question at every event for the past year especially since it is being completely ignored every time. Also it amazes me that nobody ever complains about the obvious lack of functionality and overall decrease of quality of life that comes with new website. A year passed since moving to ldjam.com and it still have less usability and comfort than old wordpress site. Though the fact itself that someone was able to create something that is less comfortable and more cluncky than default(ten years old default, nothing less) wordpress is amazing, I have to say. But I can't say that it is achievement that I am happy about.

What I want to say - we still don't have a proper working game list! To be honest, in my opinion, the only important feature that is needed for a jam site is ability to browse games, in other words - game list. All other features are not so important and you can more or less live without them without much trouble. But if you can't browse jam entries freely, if you can't find a game you noticed earlier - this means pretty much that you can't participate in ld jam fully. AND. WE. STILL. DON'T. HAVE. A. GAME. LIST! Please don't bullshit me with "current game feed is enough". It is not enough. It is not even half enough. It is extremely uncomfortable to use, it loads for ages, it even lacks static sorting. I can bet that nobody actually ever loaded a full list through feed. I don't even think it is possible due to it's performance.

I repeat, this site lacks two most important features - game list and search functionality. If, for example, during LD37 I've glanced over several hundreds of game pages, and downloaded and played about hundred games among them, during LD39 I couldn't even find several games that I noticed during event in news feed, and in summary looked up for around 50 game pages and played only about 30 games. And this is only due to the lack of the ability to browse jam entries. Lack of the search functionality sums up additional damage - it is pretty much impossible to find some game on this site even if you know it's name.

Lack of the human text formatting in the text forms also dishearting but I can live without it. Not so sure if I can live without game list much longer though.

My first Ludum Dare!!!!

I am super excited to see what I come up with I plan on working with unity so I am trying to get better at the engine right now. No matter what my final product is I will be proud to say I gave it my everything :) Best of luck to the rest of you too!!

No News Post?

Well, the theme suggestions have been open since Friday (for me) and we still don't have an official news post announcing the start of the pre-event celebration. I understand @pov being busy but in this case, no news is not good news...

Lets go! Ludum Dare 40 is coming up!

Hey everybody! It's been a while.

We're nearly 3 weeks away from Ludum Dare 40 ( ), and it's time to get your Theme Suggestions in.

Go here:

Suggestions will continue to be open for the next week, so feel free to come back if you change you mind or think of any better ideas.

Last night we pushed a HUGE update we've been sitting on for a while. It didn't go 100% smoothly, but we're working on it. Here's a few things to keep an eye out for:

  • Notifications - We're still tracking down bugs, but you might see the bubble do something now.
  • Anonymous Comments - You can enable this on your submissions now.
  • Half-Star Ratings - Can't decide between a 4 or a 5? Now you don't have to. Go with 4.5 instead.
  • Charts and Graphs - Right now they're only on the event stats, but we're getting charty (example: ).
  • Website Performance - Last LD we saw some awful site performance in the final hours. It turns out I missed something super obvious that was slowing us down (doh). That, and numerous other performance issues have been fixed.
  • And much more.

I need to give a HUGE shout-out to @sgstair, @local-minimum, @zwrawr, and @noojuno for their help! I'm super happy to have a team of folks helping me on the code. Teamwork is the best work.

If you too want to help out with the code, you can get started here: https://github.com/ludumdare/ludumdare

That's it for now. Stay tuned! We'll have more for you next week!

Will be my first time competeing this Ludum Dare after following the last few. I was wondering how everyone plans their time best. Are there tools you always use, personal rules you follow? Be great to hear how people tend to work.

Dear Ludum Dare 40 I'm ready!

I Just can't wait to start making new game, This is my third ludum dare and this time i want to make something completely different!

I made 4 games - gimme ART, I give you code!

Got head full of ideas? Can you paint/sketch/model them? Are you at least somewhat reliable and expect the same? Come make ART with me! I need you!

Look at my games to assess how much I could achieve alone in 10-20 hours. Multiply that by 1.5 since I won't have to deal with art too much if you help. Music+sounds also welcome. I mostly suck at design.

I can devote 20+ hours in 3 sessions over the weekend. Best if you're around Europe's timezones but it ain't a blocker.

I'll supply code, most probably in Unity3D + C# in order to not waste precious time (on my end), constructive design criticism, some sound effects and maybe even a simple tune.

I work for an AAA company and LD has always been a way out, at least for a weekend. Have something finished and not look back (unless it's too good :D)

Who's up? Come make a game with me! :fist: Drop a comment here today

I'm ready, First LD

Going for my first LDJam. Going to do a team game just for the fun.

My 8 Gamejamming Tips

I made this shortly before LD 38 but I think it's still relevant and hopefully useful if you're new to jamming :)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VQ-VOEb4I2Y

I AM IN! Hopefully...

So turns out I am going to a party from Saturday night to Sunday, which is really going to eat into my time, and make me very tired, but I am going to try anyway. Currently at school I am just working on making games, so will probably be able to work on my LD game at school, which will give me a lot more time on Monday.

I’ve been in since LD 30, and hope to never stop, I really don't want to lose my streak!

I’m in for the 11th time in a row!

Last LD I tried using Lib-GDX, and it was really nice, but this time I think I am going to try using unity (since I am not doing Unity at school and have gotten a lot of practice in it)

Language and Library: C# in Unity

Graphics: Paint.NET, Piskel, maybe Inkscape

Music: LMMS, maybe Abundant Music or Bosca Ceoil. Depends on how much time I have left

SFX: Might use SFXR if I have time or just Audacity.

It's going to be hard, but will be fun!

Team Building Software [Help Wanted]

Would anyone like to team up and start building a website that is designed for helping people get teamed up for game jams? This way people can join a team with the role as artist or programmer. This might make it easier to get a full, productive jam team. As a programmer, my art is hardly game worthy and I find finding artists troublesome, or even other programmers.

Possible Logistics of cite: - Use of github for the actual website making (with HTML, CSS, JavaScript...) - Then we can host this on some arbitrary server.

Comment if you're interested.

LD40 - Count me in!

Missed out on the last one (ouch), but this time I'll be back for more. :)

I'm In

This will be my sixth LD, and I am looking forward to it.. as always. My tools of choice:

  • Unity with C#
  • Blender
  • Photoshop
  • Paint.Net
  • Audacity
  • Bfxr
  • Otomata
  • A bit of Red Bull, Coffee and sugary snacks!

I'm in for LD40

I haven't done a Ludum Dare in at least a year, so heeeaaarrr we go! I will be using

Unity with C#, Visual Studio, Audacity, LSDJ running in a GB Emulator, GIMP, ASEPRITE (maybe), and Creature Animation (if needed).

I am in :D

This is my first ludum dare, i am so excited, i am using : Unity C# for Making the game (duh) Blender And/Or Magica Voxel for 3D Visuals Bosca Ceoil And/Or LMMS for Sound design Gimp and/or Photoshop for 2D Visuals (Cold) Hot chocolate, and hopefully popcorn with cheese :D That is my tools, and i am really excited for this ludum dare, and to see what the theme is, and what other people make :)

Is there any way to remove my game submission?

Hello! I accidentally created a game entry for Ludum Dare 40 (by clicking the "Join Event" button), but I plan to work with another user. Is there a way I can "un-join" the event so that I can be added as a collaborator to his game? Or can I still be a collaborator without "un-joining"?

i'm in like donkey kong

thats what my friend told me to say

im like

joining and stuff

kthxbye

I'll make a thing (like Donkey Kong)

I'll be making something, maybe VR, maybe something with weird technical limitations.

Will be using Godot 3.0, Unreal or something else.

I'm in!

Here we go again...

tools I will be using for this LD:

Shyer, my own javascript game library (code) Affinity Designer, PyxelEdit + iPad (art) Garage Band (music, sounds)

good luck to everyone, have fun!

I'm in

I'm in. I think it's my 5th Ludum Dare. I'll be using C++ and SFML and GIMP for graphics

So, I'm new here...

This will be my first ever Ludum Dare (and first jam that's lesser than a week long)!

I'm quite new to game development and have never made a game in such a tight time constraint before. So, I don't know if I can put something out in time, but I'll try!

Will be using The Godot Game Engine (2.1 probably), JPixel (thank you Emad!) and GIMP for pixel art.

And I'm doing it solo.

Does anyone have any tips for a solo newcomer?

Participating in my first Ludum Dare! :D

This is the first time that I'm taking part in a Ludum Dare and I'm very excited! I'm extremely curious as to what the theme is going to be. I've already come up with lots of great ideas and I wonder what other people are going to come up with. Be sure to have fun everyone and good luck! ;)

Hello world!

After weeks of practicing coding and game development, i will finally be participating in my first game jam. However, i don't really know which programs i need to use to create sprites for my game. Does anyone have some tips?

Getting ready to jam!

Alright, my second and final LD for 2017! Woo hoo!

Some of my goals this time around: 1. Include a tutorial. Make the first five minutes of playtime really accessible for time-short reviewers. 2. Use what I learnt last time about AI. If I can I'd like to program difficulty levels and multiplayer. 3. Avoid forcing the player to click a lot in order to accomplish core game tasks. A design issue I came up against. 4. And have at least as much depth as my previous submission! I want depth in browser games to be my trademark ;)

I'm still useless at art but hey, I'll do my best as always. Maybe this time I'll finally make it to the top 50 in audio! I got so close last time.

Anyway, I'm really hyped for this and am looking forward to it.

PS Keen to team up with me? I did it solo last time but I'd also enjoy working with a group. Join me here: https://crowdforge.io/jams/ludumdare/teams/666

Shout Out to the Web Devs!

Look at how well they've pulled this site together! They're are working hard and I think they deserve a big round of applause!
Even between LD38 and 39, the numbers show the improvements in the algorithms and accessibility of the site:

Hello ladies and gentlemen, i'm in ^^

Hi here,

I'm Grostonton, a french amateur game developer who create games as an hobby, on my little free time.

I've done few jams this year, but i never did the Ludum Dare :-/ But now that i have the permission of my wife, i'm IN !

I'm in for the compo (48h), i'll use Construct 2, bfxr for the sound, deflemask for the music (if i have time...) and amazing graphicsgale for the art.

I hope i can send you something funny for my first Ludum Dare ^^.

See you soon

I shouldn't be but I'm in!!!

During the month of November, I decided to do NaNoWriMo and GitHub's Game Off Jam...This is literally the day after both of those, so to celebrate I will be doing Ludum Dare 40. I'm using Love2D for Game Off so I might continue using it for LD40 depending on the theme and what I want to do.

Toolshed:

-Unity2D with Rider or Love2D with IntelliJ

-Paint.NET

-PyxelEdit

-Audacity

In for LD40 Jam

First time for me on the new site. Great experience so far!

Going to use Unity and try to do as much as possible procedurally.

Just in time for LD40!

Since around LD39, we have decided to take this hobby a bit more serious, and thus I present to you..

Give Us A Push!

Facebook.jpg

Soapbox racing with some whacky physics.

Any feedback is greatly appreciated! And if you are on IOS, a version is coming soon.

Also If you want to check out our LD39 entry, Dwarf Power (Windows Version)

finalGIF.gif

Very excited for LD40, hopefully, this time we will have someone to help out with sound, and that the scope creep is kept to a minumum.. probably not.

Our toolbelts include:

  • Adobe PS, AI
  • Unity 3D
  • GoDot Engine
  • 3ds Max
  • Cubical 3D

"If at first, you don’t succeed; call it version 1.0."

First LD!

Hey there! I'm Athoka and this is my first Ludum Dare ever. I'm really nervous about it but I think it's going to be a great experience. I'm going to use Unity.

I'm in!

I'm going for the Compo, using Fusion 2.5, and Photoshop if needed. If I want to do 3D I'll switch to Unity, and use Photoshop as well.

This is my 2nd Ludum Dare, the last one I entered was - geez, was almost three years ago, I started working on a project for less than an hour, got insanely demotivated and quit.

Since then however, I've finished multiple jams on Itch.io and I'm ready for the rematch. Excited to participate and see what else every body will accomplish!

Lundum dare, prepare to throw down!

Ready to go!

After tons of times ducking the compo out at last minute, I finally gathered up the courage to make a game after a bit of practice!

Tools: - Unity3D/2D (Atom) - Gimp/Krita - Audacity - Blender

2D Java Engine for Ludum Dare!

So I've participated in Ludum Dare twice now, LD40 will be my third time. And I've definitely learned a lot of new things, one of those is to make a basic framework instead of writing everything from scratch. Making the basic engine takes up most of the time leaving not much time to do the actual gameplay. So I wrote a very basic framework for 2D games in Java to use this ludum dare!

First Ludum Dare

Hi! I’m lojq and this is my first Ludum Dare ever. I’m going to use GMS2.

LD 40 Is A Thing That Is Happening

Hello I am hexagore it has been 1 year 8 months since I last managed to complete a Ludum Dare.

I need to fix this losing streak so Hello LD40.

The game will be made using my own custom adventure game engine and tooling, with art via Pyxel Edit or Swanky Paint, Propellerhead Reason for the music and probably lots of other bits and pieces. Who knows?!

Main objective is to see what I can make in 48 hours in 2017.

terry-cycle.png

When does ludum dare start?

Hello, i don't know when ludum dare starts. I see on the sidebar it say "December 1st - Ludum Dare 40", so i initially thought that it is on December 1, but then i see the counter and it says "Starts Saturday at 3:00 AM CEST *", but December first is Friday, December second is Saturday, I am a bit confused. Please help, Thanks :D

We are joining for the second time ever!

It has been a year since we last participated in a Ludem Dare, this time we are joining the event again !

We will be using: - Unity3D Game Eninge - Visual Studio Community Edition - Blender - Substance Share for Materials - Audio to be determented

Can't wait till the event!! Good luck everyone!

LD40: Genuine Earthmen are in

We've had a good streak going the past few Ludum Dares, so LD40 is a must-join for us. @daanvanyperen, @meatmachine and myself are excited to start on something new. That team composition may still change depending on whether other friends want to hop in and contribute, we'll see!

Jam Toolkit * Artemis ECS framework (check it out!) * libgdx-artemis-quickstart * artemis-odb-contrib * LibGDX, IntellIJ IDEA, Java * Photoshop CS6, FL Studio, Audacity

I'm in! First time LD

I finally join LD for the first time, very much excited!

I think I'm going to use Unity, Piskel, and Cubase:blush:

Btw, is there anything I have to do to join LD40? Am I already in? Thank you!

I'm In!

I'm back and looking forward to my 3rd Ludum Dare and I can't wait.

Last time was my first time in a team, and I loved solely focusing on the music, rather than being put off by my (very!) limited coding and art capabilities.

This time, I hope, like last time, I'll be in a team and so will be spending the next week or so looking to form a team either directly through this website or through crowdforge.io/jams/ludumdare

Good luck everyone! ~Wolfie

Im in as heck!

4th time as first time hardcore. - Wife is informed - Monday i took a day off - Food plan stands - Backup power and internet organized

lets doooooHOOO this!

wish you all a lot of fun in LD#40

Im in!

For the 6th time, (5th solo) I. AM. IN!

As usual I will do the 48h. This time I will try out Godot instead of using libGDX or my custom engine. Lets see how it goes!

Me and my team have decided to do our first Ludum Dare!

I have decided to take part in the Ludum Dare 40 , as i have saw the last couple and they look really fun. Was thinking about doing it solo but i thought it would also be a good teamwork building exercise so as our studio we will do this one! This is our first Ludum Dare and we are all looking forward to it :)

I'll be in LD40,my first LDJam

This is my first time to take part in a Game Jam event.Althrough I'm not quite sure whether I can make a playable game done in such short time, I will try my best.

My toolset is going to be:

Game Engine : Love2D Drawing Tool : Krita Music and SFX : Sunvox, Audacity

We're in for LD 40!

Alright, #40 shall be our fourth trial by fire! This time it's gonna be with added difficulty due to @Mindhead having only one day and a half worth of time to spend on the graphics. It's gonna be a real test of prioritization, project scoping and planning with me being at the helm, that's for sure.

Good luck with LD #40, everyone! I'm definitely gonna need it.

Team (Man In Motion):
  • @Devastus | https://twitter.com/devastus
  • @Mindhead | https://twitter.com/NikoFinsk
Tools of the trade:
  • Unity 2017 - with a bare set of personally made plugins
  • Reaper & buncha VSTis (audio)
  • Blender & Maya (if 3D)
  • Photoshop & PyxelEdit(if 2D)
  • SourceTree for Git stuff
  • Lots of coffee

I'm gonna try and keep pre-made helper tools to a minimum, but I might have to break my habit of doing every single thing from scratch since I'm already gonna be neck deep in piss with work regardless :P

I'm in.

I can't dedicate the whole weekend, but that's never stopped me before.

Personal goal: make something with completely novel gameplay rather than just doing something I've done before with changes to suit the theme.

Theme always sucks

Theme always sucks.

123123123.PNG

I havent actually done that :P Just modified the page.

I'm in!

My first Ludum Dare, very excited. I will go with C++, hope everything goes well.

Good luck, everyone!

It's this time of the year AGAIN!

(My personal) Christmas is finally here.

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to participate in the last LD.

The more I'm excited for THIS ONE!

Let's hop on that hype train, walk to the dining car, buy some energy drinks and let's start working!

Have fun everyone! :)

Script to add keyboard controls to Theme Slaughter

I made up a tiny script to add keyboard controls to the slaughter if anyone is interested.

Just copy the script into the console when on the slaughter page. Uses Z for yes, X for no, and K for flag. You can change the keys by changing the variable declarations, of course.

```javascript var yesKey = "z" var noKey = "x" var flagKey = "k"
document.addEventListener("keypress",function(e){ if (e.key == yesKey){ document.querySelector("button.-green").click() } if (e.key == noKey){ document.querySelector("button.-red").click() } if(e.key == flagKey){ document.querySelector("button.-tiny").click() } })
```

We're in and we're excited!

A friend and I will be participating in LD 40! The last one we completed together was LD 37 but we tried (and failed) at LDs 36 and 38. Anyway, very excited to work on this and excited to see the games!

Oh, and we'll be using Game Maker Studio, GIMP, and Reason to make the game.

First Time in Ludum Dare

Hey!! This is going to be my first time doing Ludum Dare, I hope everyone has the best of luck and we can all make something great!!

I'm In :D

I'm in for the third time :) If you are using Unity, you can check some of my scripts: http://theflyingkeyboard.net/tag/unity/ Have fun and good luck ;)

We are ready!

11 days till the X hour! U ready guys? Our team is warming up the engines, getting the food ready and collecting sleep!

If you don't remember who we are, check our games here below!!

LD32 #261: SleepOver

LD34 #435: Garbage Run

LD37 #90: Booking Mama

LD38 #106: Llama's World

Can't wait to start!

Please God - A good theme!

Here is for hoping for a great theme this time around!

There have been some good themes in the past, but also some pretty bad ones imo! Everyone is free to vote after their own will, but here is my opinion on what makes a theme good and bad. I know the theme can be used as much of little as you want and be interpreted however you want, but I still feel it's important to have good themes. Hopefully some food for thought when you're slaugthering!

What a bad theme is? * Too restrictive - shouldn't kill creativity and make all games the same * Too open/abstract - Doesn't actually say anything, might as well not have a theme * Memes/ForTehLulz - Usually not good inspirations for games. People put down a lot of energy, let's not make it for 1.5 seconds of smirking on a newsfeed * Game-mechanic or style centered - It's not fun to rate games if they are all built on the same mechanic or all look the same * A long sentence - A theme shouldn't be a light novel, one or two words to describe it should be enough to keep it open

What a good theme is? * Restrictive enough to challenge the mind in making something fun out of it * Open enough to many interpretations

Comment if you have any other good points to consider or don't agree at all :)

Anyway, happy slaugthering!

I'm in

Slaughter.png

Also I got through the whole slaughter for the first time - the statistics pie really helped to keep motivation.

The most interesting theme I encountered was "cold". It's a simple suggestion which immediately brings pictures to my mind and is flexible to create a variety of themes and topics dependending on the angle you go at it. You can look at it from the survival standpoint, the thematics of coldrelated events like the often mentioned Christmas or the sheer feeling of being cold.

And as a bonus there never has been a similar theme for ludum dare. There were just a handful of similar suggestions like "ice" or "arctic" but all in all cold was unique, so I hope it get's a chance against the big and often repeated topics.

Speaking of! The big three I noticed:

If you suggested "something, something color!" - than I gave your suggestion a go ahead.

If you suggested "something, something time!" - than I slaughtered your suggestion.

If you suggested "something, something audio!" - than I slaughtered your suggestion.

Also there was the topic of an imaginative sport, which I came around after a while. My Topics where "Mechanical Monstrosities", "Fix Your Game" and... I honestly forgot the third one.

Oh well, what was your favorite suggestion, that wasn't one of your own?

I'm in

I have a lot of homework to do but I assume I can do a pretty good graphical game in less than 48H hours. So yeah, if there is no problem i should be in, for the second time !

New

New to the site, never done a Ludum Dare before so this'll be a first. I've been so casual for so long, and it's going to become quickly clear that years of dabbling with RPG Maker have gotten me no coding skill, no artistic ability, and no musical talent... plus I'm not real good with RPG Maker in the first place.

But, this is the second-best time to get started. It's about time.

Where does this even appear?
