LD34 December 11–14, 2015

I’m in O_o

Instead of looking for excuses as to why I should wait to make something, I’m finally going to step off the deep end and create my first game. Here goes nothing, I guess?

Graphics: Photoshop if I’m feeling ambitious, open sourced images if I run out of time
Sound: Audacity
Programming: Might as well learn something while I’m at it, so I’m going to pick up Lua and use Love2D
Twitch: I’ll be live streaming! For the few people that actually read this, if you get bored at any point I’ll be on twitch.tv/sicksloth

Ludum Dare 34 – Taipei

My friend, Ahmed, will be hosting a local gathering in Taipei, Taiwan for the Ludum Dare 34 online game development contest.

You may choose from entering the “Compo” (Finish by Saturday night, must work alone and create your own artwork), or the “Jam” (Finish by Sunday night, can work in a team and use other’s artwork), or even both (If you find your game is not finished in time for the Compo, you can just submit it the next day to the Jam).

We will be doing this at the Taipei Hackerspace and can probably host max about 20 people, so make sure you click “attend” if you are coming so I can get an idea of the numbers.

The event is free but we may order Pizza on the day if everyone is hungry. You should bring your own drinks and refreshments.

LED – Laser Evasion Dynamics version 1.1 released. (solo project using Unity)

With LD 34 coming up I know a lot of people are excited to get to developing. Though I’d share an update for LED, a mobile arcade game I recently released.

If you haven’t played it yet, I just updated it, fixed some bugs, and it’s a bit more difficult (sorry haha). But if you like low poly 3D and epic 80s electronic music, I think you’ll love LED.

iOS Download / App Store : https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/led-laser-evasion-dynamics/id1016020841?ls=1&mt=8

Android Download / Google Play Store : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.SuperJustin5000.LED

Here’s a quick development video I threw together from some screen recordings I had.

The music is a track from the game, which has a few track from an independent band called Night Runner from their album Starfighter. They’re awesome.

Enjoy guys and let me know what you think.

Good Luck on LD 34, I’m looking forward to participating as well. :)

I’m in but don’t expect anything amazing

So this Ludum Dare (which I was really looking forward to) just happens to take place at the same time as my exams for school. I was a bit hesitant to join at first, but I decided to give it a shot anyway and make something super simple in the short amount of spare time I’ll have. Don’t expect anything too amazing (or anything at all, for that matter)

What I’ll be using:

-Engine: GameMaker: Studio

-Music: FL Studio

-Art: GameMaker: Studio, GraphicsGale, and (possibly) spARTan

-SFX: SFXr/FL Studio

I wish you all good luck. May the best Ludum-er Dare.

I’m in!

Im in.

It will be fun join ludum dare. Since now I’m developing games for the market(iOS and Android) I believe I improved a lot my skills. I usually  use Game Maker because it is faster and easy to port for different platforms but as I like challenge I will be making my game in java from scratch.

I’m currently working in a platform action game and I will release for Steam/iOS/Android in 2016.

Some pictures of the project:

I’m in

Third time in Ludum Dare, hopefully entering the compo if all goes well. The current plan is to use Java with LWJGL, however things could change. I’d hope to be making a very simple 3D engine, but time could limit me to 2D. Collision will probably be my main worry, so I’m going to be doing some reading on that. I will be using the fixed function pipeline (sorry D:) due to time constraints. Here is a summary of my tools:

Language: Java

Library: OpenGL, using fixed function pipeline

Graphics: GIMP and paint

Audio: sfxr, audacity and phone for recording some nice natural sounds

Good luck :)

I might be in?

Yeah maybe this is the time I actually get something working…

Possible language.

  • python + pygame
  • python + libtcod
  • pico8 (lua)

Other tools:

  • pycharm/vim/pico8
  • GIMP
  • bfxr
  • ???

If I take part, my main goals will be:

  • pitch the best idea ever
  • prototype it
  • actually implement it
  • make it fit the theme
  • have fun!

I wish luck to everyone taking part! GL:HF!

I’m In

I’m as ready as I’ll ever be for my second LDJam! I’ll most likely be using Game Maker as my main tool and using bfxr/BoscaCeoil for my audio.

Our first game is live on Google Play!

After a little over a half a year of development, Pigeon Jump is finally out for free!

Also, we are in for Ludum Dare 34.

Hey, congratulations on getting the game out there, may there be many more in the future :)

Yup, I’m gonna do this jam

48 Hours, make a game, should be fun!

I’ve participated in a fair number of Ludum Dares and always used a similar set-up with Unity, Photoshop, Milkshape 3D and Audacity / Bosca Ceoil / SFXR for example.

GB25THThis time around I’m determined to make something a little bit different, so, no Unity 3D. No 3D and I’ll be outside my UnityScript comfort zone, playing around with GBDK  and C instead.

I’ve been meaning to finish off a Gameboy game I’ve begun coding and hopefully this event will give me that kick up the behind to get back on with it! Also, El Gameboy Classic is 25 years old over here and it’d be cool to try this out!

I’m armed with a flash cart for when I need that extra bit of motivation a err, well, let’s just say music will be particularly challenging to get working well! That and Sprites, memory limits, etc, etc. (I’ll have to get creative I guess!)

My current Gameboy Game - In ProgressI’ve not attempted to make a game in C with a tight deadline before, so this, should be fun to try!

Theme allowing of course, if the theme is either “Colourful” or “3D” I guess I’ll be Unity-ing, we’ll see, bring on the warm-up weekend!

Best of luck to all who enter the event, I’ll be looking forward to playing a whole bunch of them over Christmas, tis the season to be playing game jam games after all?! Yeah, it sure is 😛

LD 34 – Checking in

I’ll be participating again this LD. Once again I’ll be using Game Maker, Photoshop, audacity and bfxr.

Hopefully this time I’ll actually submit something :)

1 week, 1 day, and 1 hour until LD 34!!!

I can’t believe only 1 week, 1 day, and 1 hour away!!!

Also, check out my Ludum Dare “I’m In” song!

Wow, never thought I’d see you again (I’m your friend/enemy from Stencyl, vic4real or ilogic). I was listening to a lot of your music and I think you’ve come a long way :) Would you be interested in doing music for a group entry we’re doing?

I’m in, again

I’m going to be making a game for this Ludum Dare as well as a timelapse showing the process. It’s going to be my 4th time finishing and actually submitting a game at the end of the weekend.

I’m going to be working by myself this time around meaning all of the assets in game will be created by me. I’ve been working on my spriting skills since last Ludum Dare, and I think I’ve gotten quite a bit better.

I look forward to seeing what I can do as well as playing everyone else’s games. If you’d like to get into contact with me or just follow along with me throughout Ludum Dare you can follow me @DivitosGD

Tools:
Game Maker: Studio – Programming and Art
BFXR – Sound

???? – Music (No seriously, I have no idea what I’m doing for music. If anyone knows of any good tools feel free to leave a comment)

GLapse – Timelapse

The post-compo version of Ultra Hat Dimension is out!

Hey y’all! I’m a little late posting this because we released it Wednesday, but the post compo version of Ultra Hat Dimension is out! It has three times as many levels, new mechanics, and some impressive modding capabilities built in. Check out the Legend of Bea level Eniko made, starting about 30 seconds into the trailer!

You can get it for $5 on itch.io; there is also a downloadable demo. It’s currently Windows only. Sorry! We plan to port it later, but Eniko needs to get more work done on MidBoss (another LD post-compo game, the beta for which is free at midboss.net).

And Yuzuki made a badass soundtrack for Ultra Hat Dimension, which is also PWYW over on Bandcamp.

Once again, I’m gonna end an Ultra Hat Dimension post by saying that y’all are awesome. We absolutely love the Ludum Dare community and are super glad to be a part of it. <3

Keep being friendly and make awesome games! I, for one, am really looking forward to the upcoming jam! 😀

GGJ also a problem.

I Can’t Wait!

I’m really excited for this upcoming jam. In the last one I was over the moon about my game getting 29th for innovation, I even made a port to Android phones that you can download and play for free: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.davetech.LudumDare33

I hope to repeat my success using GameMaker because I find this tool allows me to rapidly try out and explore ideas. As for graphics I’m kinda hoping the topic allows me to do something with computer generated abstract shapes rather than high resolution sprites.

I’m in for the first time, but it’s so exciting! ^^

Good Luck :)

Aaaaand I’m in! :)

In it for the Jam, because I didn’t have much time to practice coding and stuff. This will be my 3rd LD.

Hope the theme will be a better one for me than last time on LD. I’m aiming to just improve a bit over the average of my first 2 results, no rush and no pressure. Gonna have my fun time with it! 😛

I’m still deciding the tools of the trade, from the ones below:

  • Engine: Haxe/OpenFL, Clickteam Fusion, GameMaker, Custom JS Engine (writing together with @ruerobgames);
  • Graphics: Mischief, Tilecraft, PyxelEdit, Spriter, Inchworm DS, Inkscape, Livebrush;

Audio is probably the only thing I’ve decided now, and I’ll use my good old FLStudio with some Audacity or Wavosaur.

Hope we’ll all have fun making games!

Good Luck for Everyone! :)

I’m in!

Not sure if we need to post whether we are going to participate in the compo, but I’ve seen many post doing such, so I’m doing just that. Sorry if we aren’t supposed to do this, I just wanted to do it just in case :)

Definitely in!

I’m most definitely in! Last time I skipped LD because I just couldn’t wrap my head around the theme. I hope this time it’ll be different!

As always, I’ll be doing my work using these awesome thingamabobs:

– Code: NetBeans + LibGDX
– Graphics: GIMP / Inkscape / Blender
– Audio: Psycle + Audacity
– Utilities: Tiled / Notepad++ / Git / ..?

I’ll be warming up my tools this weekend, making sure everything works perfectly. Last time I had some last-minute troubles with my fresh installation of OS and tools, causing some headache. Not this time!
