Can I suggest compressing to a ZIP file… not all computers have a way of opening .rar archives.

“just right click and select compress to ZIP file” or something like that.

Also… nothing happens when you open it.

I’m in!

Aww yes, I’m in for my 4th Ludum Dare. After missing LD33 in the summer, I’m excited to get back to it.

This time, I’m really and truly going to try to go for the compo. My last three entries have all been for the jam, but followed all the compo rules except for the timeline. Maybe this time, I’m ready…

I’m not decided, but my current toolkit is:

  • Unity 5
  • Monodevelop for C#
  • GIMP and/or Photoshop
  • AutoTileGen, if the need arises
  • ChipTone for sound effects
  • iPad and a bunch of software on there for music
  • Audacity

I might snag some code from my previous entries if the need arises – they’re all on github. I’ve also got a lot of mileage out of Aron Granberg’s A* library, so that’s likely to show up in this project as well.

Of course, I’m somewhat tempted to throw this all away and spend the next two weeks learning an entirely different framework this time. That’s probably a bad idea, which just makes me want to do it more. We’ll see.

Dance Dance RPG MiniLD63

Hey all,

I just finished my first LD entry. It was a lot of fun and a hell of a lot of work to finish, but I think you’ll enjoy it! The concept is a fusion between the RPG Genre and Dance Dance Revolution, I’m calling it Dance Dance RPG. This is a MUST TRY entry!

You can find it here!

It’s almost time for yet another Ludum Dare!

I have been participating in this since sophmore year in high school, but this is my first time doing it in college!

Unfortunately, Ludum Dare lands directly on the weekend before my first finals week. I will still try to participate, but I’m not going to put as much time into it,

I have always used Java and Javascript/HTML5 for my games, but I might decide to use Unity and Blender for a slick 3D game this time around. I attempted to do 3D modeling last time, but I got too ambitious and had to scrap everything, making a small game to replace it all.

Hype hype.

Aww… The Ludum Dare lands on the weekend immediately AFTER my finals. Good luck with your grades and your game!

Experimenting With Voxel Game Optimization

Hey guys I was following a voxel tutorial that had no optimization. The terrain is generated with a Perlin Noise with one layer of grass, then dirt, then some stone. It is 128 x 15 x 128 generated voxels. Here is my optimization.

Most voxel engines I’ve seen group the voxels into chunks (somewhere around 16x16x16), loading & rendering the voxels as one large mesh; I’ve always found Unity is a lot happier dealing with a smaller number of complex GameObjects than thousands of simple ones.

Nice culling. Merging will be your friend. Then you can worry about rasterizing that beast.

Java Game Engine

Heyo!

Before the last Ludum Dare, I was working on this engine I called “Ludum GL” because I made it with OpenGL and it was for Ludum Dare. However, I did not participate last time, and I actually forget why exactly that was, I think I had a crap ton of homework that weekend. This time, I doubt I’ll be able to participate either, but I’ve slaved away on this engine since the last competition, and now it’s way more fully featured. If someone is using Java, and they’d like an open source game engine of sorts, than here you go! Still a lot of things I could implement, but it’s all there, and it works pretty well. Much better than my last game engines. So below are the links of importance, and I’ll let you take it from there if you want! Have a good day!

Nifty! I, too, made a Java game engine recently, but it was before LD33. I spent a week working on it and then used it that weekend. XD Sadly… we didn’t finish our game before the 72 hour deadline (I was working with my family so LDJam).

I’m in.

Heey I’m Andrew Tollett, 18 years old, and this is the first time I’m participating in the game jam. I know a decent amount about alot of different languages as opposed to alot about one. for the competition, I’ll be using game maker studio. I mostly program and do very little art and sound, so that part is going to be a bit of an adventure for me, but I’ sure I’ll have fun regardless! Good luck everyone

We’re in!

Me (Brandon), Momo, Aja, and Yosa are in! We will be streaming at http://twitch.tv/laxeot/ around 2-3:00 PM PST to give us about four hours of setup time.

Engine: GameMaker:Studio or Unity

IDE: GameMaker:Studio’s stock editor or MonoDevelop

Music: Ableton Live 9

SFX: Ableton Live 9, Audacity, and SFXr

Graphics: Photoshop and Paint.NET

It’s gonna be super fun!

I’m In

Not sure how much I will be able to get done as I will inevitably have a lot of homework to do. However, I’m in! 😀

IDE: Visual Studio 2015 Community Edition

Language: C#

Graphics: Paint.NET

Sound: Not sure…

I tend to spend most of my time working on the engine, but hope to actually get a playable game.

Question/s

Okay I’ve been contesting in Ludum Dare a few times before. But I’m asking this now to make a few things clear for me.

  1. Do you really have to make all the models on your own or can you use a existing unity package for things like rocks and trees?
  2. Also if i want to add some ocean sounds like waves and i can’t get a hold of those sounds can i use something existing if that’s the case?

Hi. You can use some models which are available in the asset store. However if you create a game in the Compo category, you MUST share the source code. Don’t share the assets which you paid – instead do a package with source code only. If you create a project in the Jam category, you are by no means compelled to share something. You can use all sounds that are available in the web. In all these cases, we respect copyright and the works that others did. If you use something which has been created by an other developer/creator, you could uncheck some categories for vote. Don’t wait an evaluation for the sound if you grab a track somewhere. Do you understand?

However, I would like to say that for each LD session we prefer when a participant creates his own models, sounds and musics. Many tools are available in the tools section. Ludum Dare is an event for indie developers, not a shopping window so as to share a commercial product. I wish you the best for the next LD session ++

Exactly my thoughts. Additionally, if you end up using somebody else’s work (with right to use, of course) I strongly recommend you enter Jam, or opt-out of related category. Fair play :-)

I’m in… for the 8th time.

So yeah I’m in, for my 8th Ludum Dare I’ve attempted.

Over the past few LD’s I’ve really not been up to standard due to formulating ideas that are just really large. So this time I’m going for the small (like really small) games that actually stick to the theme. All whilst trying something new.

Weapons of Choice:

Engine: Unity3D.

Graphics: Affinity Designer.

Audio: Bsfxr.

Language: C#

Also LD related, I was going back through my old LD projects and decided to do a rework of my LD #27 entry called GravNav you can have a look at the announcement for the new version here and have a look though the screenshots for the old version here (Sadly none of the links work for playing or looking at the source as they direct to me old website.).

Anyway good luck everyone, hopefully this time around I’ll do better :D.

I’m in!

This will be my first Ludum Dare and first actual game :P.

framework: Phaser

graphics: Photoshop/Paint.net/Tiled

sound: BFXR

I’d prefer to use java to build the 2d game engine but I’m not sure I’d be able to do it with time constraints. So I’ll use phaser and most likely implement web sockets or some cool API.

Can’t seem to open the images, says there is an error

How do I embed unity web player when posting?

When you are posting your game, there is an embed section that requires a link…. I don’t understand how that works. I have the unity web files and all that but i’m just confused. I just want to make it easier for people to play my game for the upcoming LD. Do I need to have my game posted somewhere else and then link it that way? Somebody help meeeeeeeeeeeee

It’s been a bit for me, but I believe the embed just loads the page you linked, in a frame on your submission page. Also I’d avoid unity web player and try to shoot for webgl as the web player plugin no longer works in chrome/edge and is being phased out in other browsers as well.

Yet Another “I’m In” Post

Hi everybody!

I’m definitely in and super pumped about this next Ludum Dare coming up next Friday the 11th. I have the weekend off work so I will be coding it up straight through the weekend (except for a few breaks and sleep and stuff, etc.).

I am in the process of creating my very first own game engine from scratch, but it’s very much in the development phase and nowhere near completion so I will be using the Unity engine this time, as I have the most experience and confidence using that engine. Good luck to everybody out there!

Engine: Unity 5.2.3 w/ VSCC

Graphics/Art: Inkscape/Gimp 2

Audio: BFXR

Language: C#

TAKE COVER!!!

Its coming!!! A non-stop tidal-wave of “I’m in’s” are about to hit! Up until now, the post have been spread out by a couple hours, but every time it reaches theme slaughtering , it becomes a sea of endless “I’m in’s”. If anybody wants to make meaningful posts, do it while you still can. Goodluck guys!!!

On a DEFFINATLY related note… LISTEN TO MY TRI-ANUAL LUDUM DARE SONG!
