LD29 April 25–28, 2014

I’m (Probably) In for a second go.

If time allows, I’m in. I participated in the Ludum Dare 26 with the game Laezer. This time I don’t expect all that great but Ludum Dare is fun, so why not. Laezer was created in Gamemaker 8 back in my slightly earlier days of programming; now I’ve learnt much more and am ready to program (And by that I mean actually program- Gamemaker is lazy to me now) my own game.

Anyway- to the tools!

Language: C++
Editor: Code::Blocks
Libraries: SDL 2.0, SDL_Image2.0
Art: Photoshop/Aseprite (Going to try Photoshop because I find it much easier!)
Sound Effects: BFXR
Music: Abundant Music (http://www.abundant-music.com/)
Other/Maybe: Audacity, GIMP, Undecided ‘Stuff‘.

excited to join again!

First Ludum Dare and Third Game Jam Overall

As the title suggests this is my first Ludum Dare. I’m pretty excited to start and I’m already researching certain game mechanics and spriting as well as pouring my creative juice all over the floor and then rubbing my keyboard on the stain to make a game. It would be useful to note that my second game jam was a failure.

Yup. I’m in!

I’ve booked the weekend in to spend 48 hours, or, as many as I can keep awake for, programming a shiny, happy game!

I’ll choose either Unity3d or Monkey-X for making something this time around, it depends on how I’m feeling with theme, do I want to go 3d or 2d, you know, the usual gumpf.

I’ve just begun with Monkey-X but what the hell, it’s always fun jamming!

Aside from Language Choice, I’ll keep to my standard toolchain of:

Photoshop
SFXR
Bosca Ceoil
Audacity
and whatever else comes up as useful.

Have fun everyone \o\ \o/ /o/

Definitely In

I am participating once again. Last time I gave up due to lack of sleep and motivation. The time before I didn’t finish my game either (although I have to admit that was when I was writing my bachelor thesis, so that should be excusable).

This time I am quite motivated again. I have some Java game in mind, some 2D Jump & Run or similar. But who knows, depends on the theme, of course. If I have learned anything from the last competitions, it’s this: Too much story is deadly. I took a lot of time imagining a great story around the theme and finally lacked the time to implement what turned out to be way too complex.

This time I will begin with some first art, drawing some characters, creating some music etc. I hope that some kind of vision or idea will emerge while creating these first assets. Also I won’t be thinking of much of a story, instead I will start with the game mechanics (I think it’s easier to apply a story to an existing game mechanic than the other way round).

All in all you could say I’m motivated, definitely more than last time. This is going to be fun :)

Obligatory choice of weapons:

  • Java + LWJGL + Slick2D
  • Eclipse IDE
  • Gimp
  • Cubase
  • Audacity

Good luck and have fun everyone :)

My second attempt

I wasn’t planning on joining this event because i still don’t know as much as I want to about the technical side of things. That being said I’ll do what I can with what I know.

I’m going to be using GameMaker.

Good Luck to everyone!

Ludum Dare is, in my opinion, the BEST way to learn about the technical side of things because it forces you to get down and to it. Glad you are joining and remember to enjoy it!

First attempt

This will be my first Ludum Dare. I will be using the LÖVE engine, which uses the language Lua.

I’m in-ish for Ludum Jam

So, I’m in again for Ludum Jam. This time, I’ll be solo, and making a game using slick2d and lwjgl. I don’t know what it will be yet, but I’m hoping to finish.  Maybe. I’m excited though. The themes I’ve seen have been pretty cool so far, so things look good.

My tools:

I’ll be using Java with Slick2d and LWJGL.

Art: Photoshop and Paint.net, depending on computer.

Sound: Audacity and sfxr

Tiles: Tiled? Maybe?

Music: MuseScore and various sites like http://incompetech.com

Will be participating

I’ve never participated in a full-on Ludum Dare, only MiniLDs, so this will be my first. :)

Tools->
OS: Elementary OS

Language/Compiler: Actionscript, Flex

Framework: Flixel

Editor: Sublime Text

Graphics: Graphics Gale/Photoshop

Sound: SFXR

Music: Figure (iOS)

I’m in!

Once again I will be participating with a limited amount of time over the weekend. Once again I will probably cobble together something in the last remaining hours that resembles a game like so many others in the compo. Once again I will be using:

Language – Java

Graphics – GIMP

IDE – Eclipse

Sound – hahahaha naaaah…

I hope to speak to lots of you guys in the IRC and hope that you all manage to submit. Good luck! :)

I’m in!

Hi guys! I’m in Ludum Dare.

First Ludum Dare

This is my first Ludum dare.  Wish me luck!

Using: Java, Eclipse, Paint.net, Audacity

First Ludum Dare

I will be working on a 2d platformer game. Since this is my first Ludum dare, I will mostly just be having fun with this and letting my creativity flow.

My Setup:

Box2d w/Libgdx (including Box2d lights)

Java w/ Netbeans 7.4

Tiled map editor

Paint.net (Pixel art)

Music (I will try to make my own in Fruity Loops)

Sound effects sfxr

Best of luck to all! Let’s make this Ludum Dare the best one yet!

I’m in for a third attempt!

My previous two attempts were pretty big failures, but for this Ludum Dare I’m sure that won’t be the case. This time I’ll be changing it up quite drastically by using the new and shiny Unreal Engine 4. Hopefully I can wrap my head around the unique workflow in the time before the compo (I just got it today)!

Tools:

  • Engine: Unreal Engine 4
  • Language: C++/UE4 Blueprints
  • IDE/Editor: Visual Studio 2013/Sublime Text 3
  • Visuals: Gimp/Paint.NET/Blender
  • Audio: Probably Audacity for sound effects; not sure what I’ll use for music (if I need any).

No matter the theme, I have a pretty good idea of the type of game I want to make. This Ludum Dare will be quite the learning experience!

Awesome, won’t be alone in my use of the unreal 4 engine. I’ve been messing with it for a few weeks. its very powerful.

First Time

This is my first time doing this, and I have one computer with an Intel Pentium Inside (Duel-Core) and 4GB Ram laptop.

I will be using CryENGINE 3® with this non-gaming computer. You would think it would implode and turn into a laptop smoothie, but it actually get at least 20 FPS surprisingly.

Good luck everyone!!

Wow, I have a Pentium Dual Core T4500 that’s terrible but I’ll go with Unity or Construct 2 haha

My setup until a while ago was tougher than that: a notebook with a AMD TF20 1.6GHz and 3GBs of RAM. It’s a single core of pure awesomeness (and lag…). Writing a song while Flash Develop, GIMP, Media Player Classic (paused, of course) and Chronolapse were open and running was really… challenging… One time, I had to close everything other than LMMS (since it was crashing and way too laggy). XD

But you get many cool points for going 3D. :) I always took the easier way (processing-wise) and made a 2D game in flash… Heck, even now, with a way better computer, I’ll still be doing it 2D. XD

My first Ludum Dare!:D

Tools: C#+Unity3D, Paint.NET, Graphics Gale, Pyxel Edit, SFXR,/BFXR, Audacity, Git + Bitbucket

GLHF everyone! I can’t wait to get started!

Mini-Theme: The Konami Code!

So, you know those little mini-themes that have been in the past… how many Ludum Dares? Things like “Goat”, “Potato”, and… “Bieber”, I guess was one. Usually just showing up as little Easter eggs, but in a lot of the games. Those were all failed themes in the voting, I think, but whatever.

How about this for a mini-theme for LD29: the Konami Code! Up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, B, A, start/enter. Just make something happen in your game when the player enters the Konami code! Some sort of Easter egg. It will be fun!

CONGARDALAYSHINS

Wow, it’s like an NES controller with no style.

So, that’s all. I’m definitely putting this code in my game! I hope to see it in some of yours!

I’m in

This will be my first LD so going to try and keep it simple to start with. If this goes well I will set myself higher goals next time :).

Engine: Unity 3D using the 2D toolkit.

IDE: Visual Studios 2013

Graphics: Photoshop CC

Sounds FX: BFXR

Music: Autotracker.py but might also look at a few of the other music generation tools.

Ludum Dare 29 I’m coming!

Hello everybody! It’s techblogogy here and it’s my third time here. So here’s a little video I made to explain what am I doing. You have excuse me for my very bad video editing skills.

This time I will be attending game compo. And as I said in the video I will be using Unity3d, Paint.NET and SFXR.

Also I want to try to do something cool this time. Basically, I’ve tried livestreaming previous time and it didn’t work out well. My PC and Internet (mostly Internet) just went to meltdown. That’s why this time I’m going to do a little vlog. I’m going to record (at least try) an hour by hour progress on the game. What do you think about it? Also I’ll try to twit the progress on the game :)

Anyway hope everyone has great LD and I’ll see you then.

Just in case here’s my Twitter: https://twitter.com/Techblogogy

Ludum Dare 29

Getting excited about the upcoming Ludum Dare! Let’s see if I can make something even better than Javel-ein this time around.

I’ll be using GameMaker, Photoshop, FL Studio and Bfxr. I might also use a collision and physics engine based on a previous game of mine, Busy Busy Beaver. Click here for a somewhat cleaned up version of the engine, which I’ve called the Beaver Engine. Feel free to use this engine for non commercial work. I would appreciate a credit (as “Daniel Linssen”) within any games made using the engine. Please also let me know if you make anything using the Beaver Engine so I can check out the game!
