LD29 April 25–28, 2014

First timer

Aloha All!

I have wanted to do a LD for a long time. But I have never really felt like I had the ability nor the time to. I now feel I have the ability and the time. But most importantly I feel I can complete what I start!

My art will likely be horrible! My music will be amature, but I can program up a storm! I am planning to use the following:

  • Engine: I will likely use Unity. It really depends on the theme, I have been learning Unity and want to get some practice with it!
  • IDE: Unity built in Editor and/or Sublime Text 2.
  • Graphics: Photoshop and maybe something else if the need arises. I may try out aseprite if I go 2D.
  • Sound: Adobe Audition,  Audacity, BfxrSfxr.
  • Music: Likely Abundant Music.
  • Source control: local git repo.
  • Distribution: Windows before final release, Mac, Linux. Probably Android and maybe Web and/or iOS

I can’t wait to start!

Lets Do It

Hi all!

This time I’m gonna make something for Ludum Dare, I never worked in anything like this before so I hope I can do it well!

I can’t wait! I’ll try to be in the top 100, maybe i’ll be last xD! Haha!

I’m gonna be using the following depending on the theme:

  • Engine: I’ll be using Unity, i really love using it, maybe Multimedia Fusion 2 if I work with 2D.
  • IDE: If using Unity i’ll be with Monodevelop, it seems fine for me 😛
  • Graphics: Photoshop of course, maybe Paint Tool Sai too.
  • Sound: Audacity and Bfxr, may not be the best but it sounds great for me :3
  • Music: I’ll be using Abundant Music and GXSCC, maybe some reverb with audacity or something haha 😛
  • Source Control: I think i’ll use Github, that’s a nice place for it.
  • Distribution: Windows, and maybe Mac, Linux and Web before release.

Good luck to everyone!

I guess I’m in! :D

Okay so finally ill try to make something this time.It will be my first entry ever.I think only problem will be my art skills… Gosh..im so bad at creating art so wish me luck 😀 See you soon , Good Luck to ya all 😀

I find that if you can’t make art, the best solution is not to. If your game has to be entirely comprised of squares, then let it be so.

Obligatory “I’m in” post.

I think taking 2 days off my current project to work on something else will be a nice refresher. I am looking forward to participating.

Oh, I suppose I shall give some details.

Game Engine: GameMaker: Studio
Platform: HTML5/WebGL  (easier for everyone to play without a download)
Art: Photoshop CS5
Audio: Audacity/Mixcraft/Various Collections.
Favorite theme so far: Control Only the Beginning.

Best of luck to all the devs, and much love to everyone who put in the work to run #LD48!

4th Time In!

Hey guys, I’ve been taking part in the Ludum Dare competitions since April last year, and it would be an honour to take part for another year!

This time, I’ll be switching up my tools. Last year I primarily used Game Maker 8 on Windows, however I’ve recently turned to free solutions instead:

  • IDE: Sublime Text 3
  • Framework: HaxeFlixel (Haxe/OpenFL/Flixel). Definitely check it out if you haven’t already. It’s absolutely fantastic! (apparently they’ll be supporting consoles soon, that’s awesome!)
  • Art/Asset creation: GIMP
  • elementary OS. It’s a free Linux operating system based on Ubuntu. It looks amazing, and it’s lightning fast. Not sure about livestreaming with it though. We’ll see, I’ll do some tests soon.
  • As for music, I’ll switch over to Windows 7 half way through to use FL Studio.

The game I make will be uploaded to Itch.io, GameJolt, IndieDB, and the Google Play Store (see point below)

Expect the game I make to be released on all desktop operating systems (either Flash or native compilations), and Android Phones and Tablets. I will likely design the game with phones in mind.

Good luck everybody!

Oh, how I wish…

So, I might be able to participate, for a few hours.

My family is having a holiday and I was invited so I will have from the start time until the morning of the 26th.
I guess it’s going to be a pretty damn small game, but I will try nonetheless.

IDE: Visual Studio 2012Language/Libraries: C++ and OpenGL (and SFML for human interfacing)
Graphics: Photoshop CS5.1
Sound (if I get that far): BFXR and/or Bosca Ceoil

In i’m…wait.

Alas, another four months have come and gone, and another event has arrived. I never had the chance to attempt LD28, but I entered LD27 with the (not so) award winning game LIMIT, and during LD26 I gave birth to my ultimate creation known as Pix. On a side note, due to LD26 ending on April 29th, it will be Pix’s b-day in 16 days. This has given me the motivation to complete the sequel named Pix 2 (catchy, ey?) on 29th April, 2pm BST.

Anyway, back to Ludum Dare 29. For this attempt the tools I shall be using are:

IDE: Eclipse

Language: Java

Libraries: LWJGL & Slick2D. Yes, I’ll get around to using LibGDX at some point, gimme a break.

Graphics: Paint.NET

Sound: SFXR & Audacity

Other: OBS to stream.

I plan to stream for most of the event on my twitch channel. Ill also be posting a couple of updates on here aswell during the event.

GG WP.

I’m in!

I’ve been able to take part of all compos since my first one (LD#22), and I won’t make this my first miss! That said, my tools won’t be changing all that much…

  • Language+Frameword: as3+Flixel
  • GFX: GIMP
  • SFX: sfxr
  • Music: VMML (new)
  • Level editor: My own level editor (link)
  • Timelapse: Chronolapse

I’ve also got a new battle station, so I won’t have problems running many programs at once. I still have to get a new webcam, though, since I had been using the notebook’s one… I’m also thinking about posting a Flixel plugin I’ve written for recording a few frames from the screen to a data file and a C program I wrote to read that and write bitmaps. This is great to get footage from within the game! (I could simply record, but I didn’t find one tool to my liking…)

Last time I focused on creating a fun and good looking game. Now, I want to make something more innovative (that means, no more platformers or shooters) and making a better using of the theme. That said, I refuse to drop the current quality of my games (though I must admit that the playability is tunned for myself =X), so I’ll have to find a way around that… Using a whole day for polishing (and level creation) may be overkill, but it really pays off…

I’ll get back soon with whatever I want to use during the compo. Until then and good luck for everyone!!

Also, don’t forget to HAVE FUN!! :)

I’m in

for my 5th LD!

I’ll be using:

  • Platform: HTML5
  • Language: Dart
  • Libraries: dartemis and whatever is available at pub and could be useful for the theme
  • base code: for setting up my workspace and some utilities for less boilerplate code
  • Graphics: Krita (recently discovered) and/or Inkscape, depending on my needs
  • Sound: Audacity and sfxr

LD October Challenge game ‘Guild of Dungeoneering’ – now on Greenlight

Hi folks!

I started making ‘Guild of Dungeoneering‘ for the 2013 LD October Challenge and decided to keep going until it is a full-on for-sale commercial game. Starting tomorrow I will be a full-time indie, and hope to finish it in the next few months.

I have just submitted it to Steam Greenlight so if you’d like to vote for it there that would be amazing:

Vote early, vote often!

Vote early, vote often!

We have also just finished the trailer for the game which you can check out here:

As a little comparison, here’s what it looked like at the end of October – and how it looks now!

Then: a mix of programmer art & free art

Then: a mix of programmer art & free art

Now: with REAL art!

Now: with REAL art!

Thanks for being a fantastic community, Ludum Dare!

First time, I like it rough — I’m in!

I’m in! For the first time. I’m going to be joining the jam with some friends over at http://www.sonymobile.com/hackathon.

I might split away from the group in case they decide to work on their current title, if so I’m going to choose something between:

Language: Java, C#, C++, Rust, Haskell
Framework: Unity, FlixelGdx, LibGDX, SFML, XNA/OpenGL and write from scratch
Graphics: Krita/Photoshop if I’m on Windows

I hope we get a cool theme! Any tips on how to prepare?

Regards,
Zolomon

Hectate’s in!

Oblig post for the participants.
I plan to use the following software tools:

Stencyl
Inkscape and/or GIMP
Blender3D, possibly (trying out animated 2D characters)

I’ll probably also be using some timelapse software and GifCam as desired.

Cheers!

I am in

Okay, i’ve spent about two hours today and yesterday doing theme slaughter and seeing some of the entries, i want to join.

Ready!

There are so many posts about this but I decided just to write a quick:

  • Language: Java
  • Editor: Eclipse
  • Libraries: Will all be done in java from scratch (canvas, JFrame, etc. using a pixel rendering method)
  • Art: Paint.net
  • Sound: SFXR

Hopefully I will also be able to compete in the warm-up aswell.  I hope this theme is a good one I can work with, I don’t come up with ideas very well…good luck to all!

With the In-ness

Oooh boy… I’m starting to feel a little pumped what with the “IN” posts starting. Is it really less than two weeks away ALREADY?! Its kind of shocking to realize I’ve actually been watching and waiting for this and now, it’s finally getting about that time! I guess that’s what happens when you start trying to do this consistently, huh? As usual, I’ve got some other stuff going on but so long as nothing situates itself in the “wrong” sweet spot you better believe that I will be IN.

It’ll be my third time and this time, I plan to make the 48h deadline. That’s right! Especially since I will be working solo, let’s see if I can pull it off. I feel like I’ve gotten much stronger in game development since my last two entries. 8)

And the tools:

  • Engine/Toolset: Stencyl
  • Graphics: GIMP, possibly with some MSPaint thrown in there
  • Audio: Um… PXTone? Not entirely sure.

I’m hoping to keep things well scoped and bring something AMAZING to the table this time around, more so than I have before. Watch, my fellow LDers, and bring it yourself with me!

Hello all.

First I want to say I am excited about the upcoming competition. I wish I knew about it before, but anyway now I know and that is what matters. I just have a question. Am I allowed to use art from opengameart.org for the actual competion or does it has to be content created by even when the art I did not create is in public domain? Thank you!

For the Jam you are able to use existing public domain art, but for the Compo you are only allowed to use art that you created yourself during the 48 hours.
