I’m in too!

This will be my 5th LD, and as usual I can’t wait to begin!
I used C++ for my past LDs, but this time I learned Haxe and I really love it! Here is my little lib I’ll be using: Lib
So here are my tools:

  • Code: Haxe 3
  • IDE: FlashDevelop
  • Pixel Art: Paint.NET
  • Sfx: Audacity, sfxr and probably Labchirp
  • Music: FL Studio 10
  • Timelapse Capture: Chronolapse
  • Timelapse Rendering: Blender

Good luck everyone and let’s have fun! 😀

Warm Up!

I worked on a warmup game last weekend and added the sound today. Check it out on Newgrounds!

First Timer

I plan on participating at minimum in the Game Jam portion of the competition. This will be my first game jam ever, and I am very excited about it. I’ll be a team of one, but that shouldn’t be a problem. I’ve got my tools ready, and I just need to go to the store to buy some caffeinated K-Cups, cause decaf ain’t gonna do it.

Just wondering: Why did you put frame.setResizable(true)? The JFrame element is resizable by default. Not criticizing your code, just wondering if there is a reason for it :3 Thanks!

I’m in!

Language: Java

Dev: AnonymousGamer33(A.K.A. Aestrocorp/AnonymousCorp/Cyberdes)

Using to develop: Eclipse Kepler, Paint.NET, Other audio and image creators/generators…

Ludum Dare 48h.

In for competition, starting warmup now

I’m a rookie who has never released a game or even finished a hobby game. But I’ve been fiddling with making games in Flash for almost 10 years now. I’ll be entering the competition and do a quick warmup entry this weekend.

Main tool is Flash CS 5_5 using AS2. While I am creating some mobile games using AS3, I’m still learning and thus not fast enough in AS3 to compete. With AS2 I can quickly prototype. Won’t be using any libraries but if it’s allowed I may cut+paste some frequently used functions from games I’ve been practicing with. I’ve read the rules but am not sure about the cut+paste thing. I’ll be sure to get clear on this before the compo starts, but I think it falls under “base code”.

Graphics will be in hand-drawn style using a Cintiq drawing directly into Flash. I can use Photoshop or 3DSMAX if need be but am planning to stick with a hand-drawn look for this competition. Sound will probably be an afterthought, likely some recorded sounds that will be processed in Audition or Premiere. Music will probably not be included but if it was it would probably be some minimalistic loops made in Fruity Loops.

Anyhow, this is all new to me. Let’s see how it goes!

Having trouble deciding on a theme for my warmup so I’m going to visit Theme Slaughter again and go with the first theme that comes up… “Samurai” it is.

Yeah lets do it

Hi all,
I am also ready and in for this big Ludum Dare.
I am very excited and really can’t wait.
This is my first big Ludum Dare but I took part in the 2 previous Mini LD’s.

I will be using jMonkeyEngine, Java, Blender, Gimp, Audicity…

Good luck too all other entries.

Enjoy it

I’m in!

I’m going to join this Ludumdare after a failure last time.

This time I’m going to use Java + libgdx, and trying to understand Box2D.

For sound I’m going to use SFXR and SunVox.

For graphics I’m using Paint.net and Pickle.

I’m maybe going to use Tiled.

GL! :)

I’m in…

…for a third attempt. Again, I vow to draw better graphics (not just boring squares and circles) and make a better effort in gameplay design.

Tools:

Framework: HTML, Javascript, ImpactJS
Text editor: Kate
Graphics: GIMP, Inkscape
Audio: Maybe Autotracker and bfxr or af3sfxr.

Base code: (just a basic HTML template and minimum CSS)

Good luck to everyone!

I’m in for the LD29 Jam

I’m planning on participating in LD29 next weekend – I’ll be doing the jam again, less stress, less rules.  I’ve been crunching at work for a while now, so I’m really hoping I’ll be in the clear by next weekend and feeling fresh enough to put something together.

Like last time, I’ve got a stack of audio toys that I haven’t spent enough time with, so I’m going to try and bookmark some of the time to play with music and sound effect stuff.  Other than that, I’m going to stick with my usual tools and see how it goes.

Hardware: Macbook Pro, Wacom Tablet, iPad, MPK25 keyboard

Game Engine, Languages, & Tools:  Unity 3D Pro, C#, Xamarin Studio

Libraries & Frameworks:  Futile, Vectrocity, Spine

Graphics & Art: Corel Painter 12, Photoshop CS, Blender 2.7, Spine, Procreate iPad

Music & Audio: Ableton

Fancy!

I’m In

It’s my second this time around and I started to join just last year. I entered the more relaxed 72h compo last time. Now I’m going to join the 48h.

I’m on a Mac OSX as my dev machine so I’ll be using:

  • Language: C/C++ SFML 2.1
  • Graphics: Pixen
  • IDE: Xcode
  • Sounds: bfxr
  • Music: ModPlug Tracker

I’m in? We’re in? Whose in? What’s in? WATSON???

Watson. Definitely Watson.

Alright. So I’m in. But who is “I”? I’m not sure this time. My friend who I often work with (she does art) can’t do it. Does this mean I’m going solo? Or will I find a partner before next weekend? Only time shall tell.

This will be my third Ludum Dare, but I’ve also done two Mini-LDs and the Flappy Jam. Check out all of my previous games here!

So here are the tools I’ll be using, if anyone’s interested:

Programming/Engine: Unity, using JavaScript as my scripting language and Monodevelop as my IDE.

Art: Probably makepixelart.com and GIMP, Photoshop if I decide to get fancy for any reason. There’s also a chance I’ll stick with geometric art (read: totally not programmer art) instead.

SFX: sfxr, cause it’s awesome.

Music: Autotracker? It makes great music, but the music doesn’t loop! WolframTones? Can’t seem to get this working, but I’m gonna keep trying! Maybe some Creative Commons music if I go for the Jam, because you can’t use it in the Compo, correct?

Font: You can use Free For Commercial Use fonts from dafont.com in the Compo, right?

And one more thing: If I do enter into the Compo and not the Jam, how do I share my source code, since I’m using Unity?

I’m in, again!

This Ludum Dare will be my third, and the second one I’ll be attempting with assistance from a friend. Every time I have participated in Ludum it has been a positive experience, often resulting in becoming a better programmer/game developer because of it. I have limited formal education in the ways of software development yet Ludum Dare allows me to flex my current, albeit small, library of knowledge and the community is top-notch (Thanks for that guys, that’s amazing, really). Back on track with my obligatory “In” post; Not much has changed as far as tools and stuff goes, but here’s what we’ll be using:

Engine

  • Unity3D

Graphics

  • Photoshop
  • Gimp
  • Possibly some other open source pixeling tools (like krita)

Audio

  • Audacity
  • LMMS
  • Whatever we can get our hands on really.

With all that said, anyone else out there got some engine stuff that would be better suited to a programmer in development? Unity is amazing and a very deep tool that can do almost anything I would want it to, however I want to broaden my mind. With that said I have some questions for the community:

What are you guys using?

Are you a programmer or an artist?

Weekly Game Challenge – Game #2 – Cloud Wars

Hello there, I’m the guy from this post, two weeks ago I decided to make one game per week in order to improve my skills developing games and also for getting prepared for the ludumdare! You check out the game of my second week – “Game #2 – Cloud Wars”.

Hey – good job sticking to your goals!

Into the Inferno

I’m IN, part two! In Part One, I began the I’m In posts (FIRST!), established my persona and idiosyncrasies, shamelessly plugged my domain name, and asserted the dawning of a new era! Sixth LD here we come!

My Tools:

  • CODE: Lua + LÖVE in Notepad++. My basecode can be found here, a collection of community libraries. It’s got lots of cool stuff in it that brings me up to par of Flixel users, but it’s not quite ready to use yet. I’m still working on getting it together. EDIT(4/20): It’s pretty much ready to use now. =) Still haven’t added Spriter support, but I’ll get to it.
  • GRAPHICS: Paint.net, possibly Photoshop. BIG NEWS: I’m going to use Spriter, if I can get it to work. And BIGGER NEWS, my pen tablet! EDIT: I’ll probably try using AutoTileGen.
  • SOUND: Aria Maestosa for music. (S/B)FXR for sfx, and my laptop’s mic. Audacity, for everything.
  • DESIGN: Pen, paper, the font of eternal inspiration (internet), and Tiled for tiles. Yes, I do still hate Tiled.
  • STREAM: Open Broadcaster Software and my twitch.

My Goals:

  1. Make something weird. I hate making games that are the same as tons of other games, but when I try to do something irregular, my thoughts turn to making something “cool.” Making something cool, though, is not the right way to think about it. It just leads me to try to be better than everyone else, and takes me away from making something FUN, which should be the goal. Making something “weird” seems to be the better way to think about it.
  2. Make it juicy. I got reminded of that big juiciness presentation on grapefrukt’s site, so I figured, why not follow some of its advice? And even more importantly, the advice of this.
  3. Explore my design space. You know, insert as much coolness as I can within the constraints of my idea. I mean, there’s only 48 hours, but what I’m trying to say is that I’m going to try stuff. New Cool Weird stuff.
  4. Minimize combat. The fact that 90% of the games in the world involve combat is lame and restricts the art, man. We can do so much more, and I intend to. (Other things that restrict the art, man include realism, goals, standardized controllers, and F2P.)
  5. Tell a story. I feel like my best talents are in the realm of storytelling, and yet, my entries never tell stories. (Okay, one did, but said story was admittedly terrible.) I’m going to try to have a stronger focus on characters and writing this time.
  6. Save time for aesthetic. Graphics and music are important parts of the game that I often leave for the end. I’ll shuffle my normal schedule around to get them done earlier, I think.

I will ignore all the goals above as required.

So, I’m thinking tomorrow or Sunday (probably Sunday), I’ll start streaming some warmup action. I’ll probably code myself an intro and maybe a small game. I’ll keep you guys updated! UPDATE (4/20): Maybe tomorrow.

P.S. Good luck to everyone, especially the newbies! I like to say that without them, the Ludum Dare wouldn’t be the Ludum Dare. Which is why I just did.

I am in for the first time!

Hey there everyone! I’ve been following/knowing about Ludum Dare for quite some time now, but never really participated in one. Well, here it comes. My participation is mainly based on the belief that I can finally make something out of nothing within 48 hours really. And of course, have some da*m fun here and there. So I will use these tools:

  • IDE: I will choose the IDE on the go. Depending on the theme. But normally I would use the Game Maker. Otherwise I might use C# as well
  • Graphics: Mainly Paint.NET since that’s my favorite tool to do that. And also Photoshop for scaling the sprites.
  • Sound: sfxr
  • Timelapsing software: Chronolapse
  • Music: Still not sure.

And yeah, that’s it.. Mainly… I wish luck to every participant :)

Limited time LD for me

Prom is next week, so I will only be able to work on it from when it’s announced Friday, and likely all of Sunday, but I am in nonetheless

I’m in

This is my first ludum dare so I am a bit excited.

I previously participated in two game jams so I have an understanding of what I am getting myself into.

I am joining as a team since while I want to make a quick game, I also want to take my time a bit and make sure the small game I will create will be actually fun.

Besides that, I will be handling both code and graphics while my teammate handle sound effects and music. By the sound of his soundcloud soundtracks, we probably be doing something quite retro.

I believe that I am quite adept in programming and code architecture while my art skill still require a lot of improvement before I can make use of any art style other than minimalism and pixel.

Hopefully, just as in previous game jams, I will learn to continue to improve my asset pipelines and code design.

What I will be using:

Engine

  • Construct 2

Graphics

  • Photoshop

Audio

  • Audacity
  • Whatever my musicbro is using.

Ask anything. I will try my best to answer.
