Ludum Dare 52 January 6–9, 2023

In again! Ulm is coming.

As usual, we‘re in again! For the last years, I always met up with a group of friends from Ulm (Germany) to create games for this jam, sometimes with more people, sometimes with less.

Last time, we were down to two people, so I‘m very happy that we‘re back with a large team this year - seven happy people will be creating together!

We‘ll be using Godot as usual, probably drawing our sprites by hand and scan them in, animate them in After Effects… at least we did that last time, but we‘ve got some first-timers with us. Let‘s see what ideas they‘ll bring to the table. Maybe everything will be different this time?

Anyway, I‘m hyped, we‘re hyped, everyone can‘t wait for it to begin.

Tano Collective reporting in

Hello again Ludum Dare!

It is this time of the year again, huh? I hope you are all rested and ready to jam!

Me and my friends at Tano Collective will be participating in our third, consecutive Ludum Dare, yay!

Some of you might know us from previous bangers such as Void Timeline or The Ultimate Martian Roulette:

Or from comment sections of your games and Twitch channels of our friendly streamers where we hang out and check out other games in post-jam rundowns. We will be glad to find you there once the jam ends, but before that, you can find us on our Tano Twitter or the blog posts if you are lucky (it scrolls so fast!).

Important question before I end:

Which theme are you hoping for this year?

I'm in again, but I have a question

This will be my second LD. The first one I had a hosted website so I just put my game and my code on there for download. This time around I do not have an ISP for hosting.

Where do I upload my game and my source code for those who want to play the game or view the source?

AI Content Generators in the Compo?

The LD51 rules specifically called out that (the new class of) AI content generators are NOT allowed in the Compo, along with including other guidelines. The general rules have not been updated with this, nor does the LD52 announcement post references this. What's the current state of the rules? Seems people will be even more interested in this topic this time around =).

First game jam

This is my first game jam. I started learning how to make games in September last year, so my goal is just to finish.

I have heard most people don't even finish, so my main goal is to learn as much as I can from everyone here.

beating burnout

ill be joining this ludum dare, with the ultimate goal of beating my burnout thats lasted a year lmfao

So excited!

So excited for ldjam 52! This will be my seventh Ludum Dare, and I hope it will be my best! Best of luck to everyone else!

No better moment

To update your image editor to a fresh beta version you have been waiting years for!

Have fun everyone! And yes, I clicked "install". Livin' on the edge baby!

Plans for the Theme Reveal

So for me jam starts at 11 P.M. My plan is quite simple:

  1. Look at the theme at 23:00.
  2. Brainstorm ideas for 20 minutes.
  3. Ge a good night sleep.
  4. Have a calm quiet breakfast.
  5. PROTOTYPE

For now, I'm perfectly ready for first four items on the list. For the last one going to be using:

  • Unity
  • Scetchbook and Adobe Photoshop
  • Beepbox
  • Phone Mic
  • Notepad and pencil

Just as the last time, going for Compo. Hope to come up with something within adequate scope. Good luck to me and everyone. LET THE JAM BEGIN!

Important game jam

This is the first gamejam where I will be making a game with my 6 year son (he will draw voxels). I hope we will have an interesting game. Good luck everyone, and have a good time!

I would like to use my own template in order to create something good, but it is not always possible due to its limited scope. If I cannot develop as I would like, I will use Unity. I wish you the best my dear friends - and don't forget to have fun. Bye ++

Et un dernier mot pour mes amis francophones - bonne session à chacun ++

I have a question

For the jam I’m going to make a game in Python and pygame and I’m wondering where I should host my game

Im in!

Hello!

My name is Erox and im a solo-developer from northen Sweden, where it currently is snowing like crazy! Last time i joined Ludum Dare and made it through was a jam game for LD 50 and hopefully i can finish with a game in compo this time! Either way, im excited! 🙌

Because people love these, here are the stuff im using:

⛄ GameMaker Studio 2: Gamemaker is game engine i’ve always used, and love it dearly!

⛄ Aseprite/GMS: When i need to animate something with many frames, i use Asprite! Or GMS built-in sprite editor!

⛄ BeepBox: I make music right inside there, in that little spot right there!

⛄ Bfxr & Audacity: With these, i make sounds that go beep and boop and clap and crash!

⛄ Trello & Google Drive: Here i write down my game ideas and to do lists, documenting my progress!

⛄ itch.io: This is my go-to place when uploading my games, very nice!

Have a wondeful Ludum Dare y’all! I’ll be posting updates here once i have anything to post!

Joining the Compo after a long while.

Last Ludum Dare I participated in was the 45 Jam, the last compo I did was 42. 10 Ludum Dares later I'm going to do the compo again. Mostly due to forgetting until the last minute, so I didn't invite anyone to help like normal. Oh well.

I will be using: - Unity - C# - Clip Studio or Gimp depending on the art style I feel like doing. - Git, Bitbucket - for version control - Probably something like sfxr, my face or something for sound, not really sure yet.

My goal is to finish something. I have been starting a lot of games over the years finishing very few of them, but ludum dare always forces me to finish something. Hopefully that will give me more motivation to finish one of my bigger games.

Good luck every one. Never give up, never surrender. Lets go finish something!

Joining Compo!

Been awhile since I did a compo solo run, so excited to see what I can do with Godot!

Also I totally missed that the start time got pushed back an hour from 11 AM PST to noon.

I'm in

I'll be using javascript and html5.

We're in I guess

Yeah. We have a team now. NICE.

We're be using either RPG Maker or Ren'py, depends on the theme.
