Texture generation/creation

Hi, does anyone know any good tools/applications for generating textures, that could be used this weekend for the LD?

Since ALL assets have  to be made over the weekend, it makes things kinda tricky for us programmer types who are not good and fast at creating semi decent looking textures.

I have GIMP and generally know how to use the tool well enough… but that doesn’t really help me when I want to say… create a floor texture, or texture my walls in a game, or have good looking doors…

I know there are tools out there for creating procedural generated textures using noise functions, filters, patterns, etc… but does anyone have any good recommendations for these or know of any good (free) tools that could be used?

Thanks :)

I actually found a good forum thread, that has a lot of cool resources for this… will definitely be investigating some of these:

I’m in

This will be my first LD,  here are my instruments:

Language/Platform: ActionScript 3/Flash

IDE: FlashDevelop

Graphics: Paint.NET, Pickle

Sound and music: sfxr, Acoustica Mixcraft

Well, best of luck for all of us :)

I’m in

Last LD I was in for the jam, this one I’m going to try for the 48hr comp.

Tools:

Engine: Unity/Flixel

Art: Paint.net, ASESPRITE, Photoshop, 3DSMAX

Audio: Audacity, Fruityloops

Warming up with Flixel and Box2D

My goal is to create a 2D physics based game. I love puzzle games like the Incredible Machine, but since I’ve never really used Box2D before, I started a little easier.

So here’s my baseball batting simulator :)

And here is the most messy code you’ve ever seen. I may clean it up and reuse it for the compo or maybe I’ll just start over.

(BTW I nicked some images from the web, obviously I’ll create my own for the compo)

Nice warmup game! Just so you know, the link at the bottom of your post doesn’t work…

Tools all Set

I have my tools working and ready. Still not sure on the programming language though…

  • Either using Java or D for a programming language(I haven’t decided)
  • Ubuntu 12.04 Beta 2 Precise Pangolin for my OS
  • Gimp for graphics
  • SFXR for audio
  • Compo here I come!

I’m in

Hi Everyone.

I’m in!. I’m going to participate using CoffeeScript and HTML5. Enjoy and have fun!

I’m in, again!

This will be my 5th Ludum Dare, and I hope to be a successful as I was in LD #21, where I really liked the theme, got a great and simple idea and managed to finish 66th in the Fun category.

My weapons of choice:
– FlashPunk and FLEX
– GIMP
– sfxr, pxTone and Hydrogen Drum Sequencer

Let’s have another go at it!

Weekend of Daring

First LD ahead, the warmup weekend was promising :)
My tools of choice:
Code: Python 2.7 + pygame. PyDev in Eclipse as workspace
Framework: My own small framework to make some general objects easier to maintain. Available here, give credit if used:)
Graphics: GraphicsGale Free, Gimp
Sounds: Guitar Pro 5.2 and Bfxr
Looking forward to it a lot!

I’m in!

I’m going to be using Multimedia Fusion 2 for development as usual. It allows me to work super quick. I’ll be using Lab Chirp and or a/sfxr for sound. And I’ll probably go with pixel art within MMF2’s editor for simplicity.

I might try and  livestream the whole thing as well using Livestream.com. I did that for molyjam and it was quite fun, and it also kept a nice record of it. I usually use chronolapse.

Looking forward to it!

It’s gonna be an awesome weekend. (I’m in!)

I’m extremely excited about this 10th Anniversary Ludum Dare this weekend.

This will be my fourth entry for the 48-hour compo. Again, my toolset will be:

C++ in Visual Studio 9 with the SFML 1.6 library
GIMP for graphics
sfxr for sound effects
PXTone and Audacity for music

Best wishes for all the entrants!

I plan on using Notch’s DCPU-16 emulator as my platform

Yup! So… No sounds unfortunately. Custom graphics and all. Or maybe ASCII? Depends on how I feel. Will be written in ASM.

I think this is going to be a huge take. Maybe I should use something I’m more familiar with for the 10th year of LD48? What do you think?

In again.

TGF2 again. No C++… but oh well, does it really matter? :)

Stuff I’ll be using:
The Games Factory 2 for the game itself, as usual. <3
sfxr, not going to explain on it as well… Everyone here knows that’s a sound editor, right? 😉
Paint.NET for some advanced graphical stuff I’ll be making.
– Music… uhhh? Never made any, not going to try until the LD is done as well.
– Timelapsing… Chronolapse sounds good, but Fraps also is able to do it. I’ll see.
– Livestreaming? No. My PC can’t handle it. Sorry guys!

And yeah, I’ll be doing 48h again… Maybe I’ll do Jam if I won’t get in time with my entry. That will be my third time participating.
Also going to do the daily demos again 😀 Maybe even more frequently, I’ll see.

Also, there should be a Ludum Dare 10th Anniversary theme. No idea what I would make for that, though. 😀

I am in with HTML5

This time I think I’ll make an attempt with Construct 2 … lets see where it goes.

Again? :/ Great!

Oh, time went by so fast!

This will be my second try. I’ll show you what I didn’t learn from the first one… Well, I’m still doing my job with Microsoft XNA so there shouldn’t be any surprises 😀 Game will be some 2D pixel-art magic, won’t repeat mistake I made (vector graphics)

Tools are almost the same:

That’s it. Good luck and have fun!

Ok, I’m in

I’ll be using:

– Programming: Python + Pygame (possibly PyBox2D if i feel like it)

– Graphics: mainly Graphx2, paint.net and photoshop

– Sounds: bfxr or sfxr, not too sure

– Music: drum circle or ableton

Code will be available under MIT license, media under CC-BY

We’re In!

There’s a group of us joining the jam this time around. Not sure on numbers yet, since availability still hasn’t been completely confirmed, but there looks to be a good mix of people involved.

The code is being done in Java using the Eclipse IDE. Some external libraries will probably be used, such as TinySound for audio playback.

The tools being considered for music creation are Sibelius, SunVox, Band in a Box, and MuseScore, depending on the style of music required for the game we end up deciding upon.

The design is likely to heavily use pens and paper/graph paper, white boards, Excel, notepad documents, and shouting at each other.

The artists are using Photoshop, Paint.NET, and possibly some 3D editing software depending on game choice.

FRAPS and Chronolapse are being used for recording our development and some gameplay footage, which we’re intending on editing together at the various stages of development (or maybe after we’re done, if it looks like time is becoming more of an issue) to create some devlog type videos as well as a gameplay video.

The team is a mix of a couple of people who have game jammed before and a couple for whom it is their first time.

Decided to do it – Jam rules

A group of about 5 of us have decided to go ahead with it and do it, Jam Rules, this is our first time doing it too.

The only thing is, that we can only actually meet for 24 hours or so, and that’s really all the time we’ve got. An interesting twist I guess.

I’ll be the only programmer in the team, the rest of the guys are pretty much there to do art and come up with ideas. I’ve decided to use the Slick2D API, using Eclipse as my IDE. Java as the language (obviously).

Should be good fun, good luck to everyone else competing.

It sounds like you guys might be pretty pressed for time, so maybe this will help you out:

Games and Beers

Don’t know if any participants from Belgium would like to meet up.

I can’t host something big in my own home, but if enough people would like to come together sunday evening  (say, 20.30h-ish) to show off their entry (compo or jam), we could meet up in a café.

Location: Region Antwerp – Beveren – Sint Niklaas
Letmeknow 😉

I’m in!

Hi,

I’m in! First time for me. I will try to use HTML5 (canvas) and Javascript. I have never really made games before, I have no idea of what I will be able to come up with. We’ll see…

Thanks go to Gaeel for introducing me to all this.

I am in for the Ludum Dare 23 Jam

As a lof of people here, this will also be my first Jam.

I will use:

  • Objective-C (what means that the game will be for Mac OS X or iOS. Is there any restriction of platform?)
  • Cocos2D game engine
  • cfxr (for sound effects)
  • Grafx2, Pixelmator and Pixen (for graphics)
  • Audacity (for music)
  • GitHUB (to share the code)

BTW, I am a Brazilian that live in Hsinchu, Taiwan. I was following the list and didn’t find nobody from Taiwan. If you are from ROC and wanna gather, please leave a comment. :)

I am not sure, but i guess you can compile it for linux/win32 with gobjc
18. Apr 2012 · 14:22 UTC
As I couldn’t install gobjc and I am afraid of not have time to port the game to Windows, I will use Java instead of Objective-C
