LD26

Hello and I’m in, 1st time

Hello LD comunity, this is my first post and my first LD compo. Have been wanting to do something like this forever :)

So a month ago, I broke my procrastination habits, made an account on the site, and started following the community. You guys seem an awesome bunch ^_^

I will be using:

Coding: Flashdevelop with AS3

Graphics: Flash CS6, Paint.NET

APIs: (depending on the game I want to do) Starling, Away3D or the good old native displaylist. If needed might also use Greensock’s awesome Tweening libraries.

Sound & Music: I have no idea what I’ll use for this. Unfortunately for me, usually my brother handles any sounds an music I need for projects with Ableton.
I am thinking to use some of the sound/music generator apps people have been suggesting on the website, if I don’t learn some Ableton basics until then :).

Good luck everyone and …

Potato power!!!

Dev Update #1

So I decided on a game idea.

The game statement is: You are an entity that is trying to survive and escape a sidescrolling 2D  level.
Not much story yet, I know, but I am not focusing on this part yet.

The “twist” is that you need food to survive,

  • you collect food,
  • loose food if damaged
  • and use food in different parts of the level.

So there is also a resource management aspect to the gameplay. I am still flusing out the core so I might change some bits, but I am finally happy that I have an idea.

Here is a mockup to describe a mid-game section and available gameplay.level_sample

The “minimalism” side should be in the graphics, interaction and the core mechanics. So reduce the input and mechanics so that they strictly serve the purpose. For example I won’t have a jump action, instead I will have ladders or elevators in places that a jump is needed.

Dev Update #2

A small update.

Ok, so although I wanted to avoid any full collision detection algorithms, I decided to create my own player<–>level collision system. This game won’t have any complicated collisions, but instead of making something “just for this” and later one to decide to change the movement in game, I rather make a more generic system.

One of my self challenges for this 1st Ludum Dare, is to try to make everything from scratch, at least gameplay wise. So no game-engines on this one.

Swapping to Jam, I hope it’s allowed

Unfortunately I had to be away from development for the last 26 hours. My game is not nearly done, but I don’t want to give up. So I am swapping to the Jam.

I hope it’s “legal” within the LD rules to swap now.

If it’s not … I am still gonna do this game :).

I’m in

Hello game developers,

This will be my second Ludum Dare and I hope to actually finish the game and submit it this time :). I’ll be participating in the compo.

I will make the game in Actionscript3 for either Web or Desktop (or both).

The tools:

  • FlashDevelop, SDK: either Starling or Away3D depending on type of game, also some gamepad library as I really want to add gamepad support.
  • Flash CC for graphics, animation (if have time) and level design
  • Paint.net (maybe Gimp if I wanna go all advanced and stuff :P)
  • Audiotool for audio if I manage to get that far.
  • Dragonbones for animations IF I need to do any advanced one.

I’m alone with my 1y10m old son this weekend so I will “query” him for some inspiration :)), also the in-laws might lend a hand

Let’s jam people !!!

4 years in the making...

Hello ludum darers, I am in for the compo, this is my second LD ever, after a 1st failed one 4 years ago. I will be using: - Unity - Blender3d - Visual Studio - Paint.net - Audiotool, audacity for any music & sound editing.

I am 4 years wiser, with 4 years more experience, hopefully this time I will make it till the end. But this time I have my almost 4 year old son for motivation :hugging:

Good Luck everyone and don't forget to sleep, eat healthy and have some fun :hearteyescat:

Keep seing planetoid world games

... and I think is a good thing :)

So I think this is a good thing that people are trying to make something different than the usual flat world. And I've seen many screens and streams within ldjam with really nice planetoid worlds. I know that I struggled a bit to get my head around having the gameworld like that.

Anyway, here is also a screenshot of my current progress for the game Planet Hoppers. I still haven't completly figure out the gameplay but right now I am glad it works and looks nice and I am more focused towards making a good technical prototype for small planets exploration ... and hopping :stuckouttongue:

I am in

6 hours already into the event and I just barely put together a few ideas. Will go into a morning walk to get some coffe and clear out my head and decide on what to do.

I will be using: - Unity with VS2017 - Blender - Paint.net

I also figured out that the more game ideas the worse it is to decide. Heh, maybe someone should make a game about that :))

Have fun everyone and good luck.

Saw the theme, looks .... interesting, going to think of a few ideas and off to bed :-) Will be using: - Unity3D with VS - Paint.net/Gimp - Blender3D - Notepad.

Aiming for the Compo, will settle for the jam if I don't finish in 2 days. Also ... seems like Quill18 already has 2k live viewers
