14th LD in a row, first day ends in babyopcalypse.

@picapica is partially guilty as usual.
This is about as far as our understanding of parenting goes.

I was really missing the list of games I had graded from the old site. It was nice. So I made a new one. You can find your list on the event page. Also the list exists for the previous events too.

How many games have you played?
I know this is the first, rather rough implementation and I have some thoughts on what should be added:
But I'm, or we're also interested in what you think should go into it.
@pov, maybe make this news?
Any talented SVG artist out there wanting to propose icons for the voting categories? That issue on github.
I know I posted some hours ago the first iteration of information about what games you have created. Now it's updated, just go to https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/40/mygrades
Fake example (bubble-icon shows which you've commented on):

And of course this page is only visible to you. Let me know if anything is amiss or should be added.
This time it's probably going to be a smaller game but I'm adding a personal challenge modifier:
Try a new technology
And for me that will be using Bitsy.
Also in case there are new features on the site and you think they are bad, then it's probably my fault. :dark_sunglasses: A whole bunch of them just went live so I hope they work :anguished:
I usually focus on core mechanics and making thing look as ugly as possible  during day one. And this time is no different!

Remember to  :pizza: and  :bed: kiddos!
In the distant future, once every four years the :fire: flame :fire: is carried to the "stadium". An empty oval place in ruins. No one has been able to leave their homes for centuries and no one really knows the origin of this strange tradition. But it is very important, very sacred. Controlling your "sporty" (what is sport?) robot via remote, you try to be the one that carries the flame.

(Remember to take breaks, staring out of a window or run ten laps in the living room, prototype and have fun!)
It's not even late on the first day and core user interaction (reorganizing the cards in the instructions feed to the robot) works smoothly. The robot can also turn, so that puts me quite close to the goal of having the first iteration of the game mechanics done by the end of the first day.

And by that, it's time for food and letting this human regain some focus.
...and that means I'm not allowed to continue coding, because I know what happens if I do. Nothing good I tell you!
Tomorrow is making tools for designing the level, refining, getting rid of placeholders, making the level and I think I'm asleep now  so I better stop.

The Olympic colors as spreading, if only we could warn the future about what horrid thing they represented. They have no idea how they've misunderstood it all.
We're at 60% over 20 votes which is not at all bad for being a Ludum Dare event

But the record is about 64% on ldjam.com
I think we can beat that easily if you join me in helping those close to the cutoff:
https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/46/games/danger/all
And those who might not have figured out that you have to play games to get votes on your own game:

Way back when in LD29, I made Fistula Foragers (http://ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-29/?action=preview&uid=24765) and since there really can't be enough fistula themed games and the theme was permitting I feel like I have no choice.
Progress so far is really rough and placeholders. Haven't coded in Unity since last LD...

We're in for the 23rd time in a row! This time, a little robot good boy :robot: will have to prove themselves in an obstacle course towards a goal :checkered_flag:
One button to control each leg.
But first it is time for a break:

It's looking this might be a reprisal of the very first LDJAM theme (LD#27) that I partook in. It would be interesting to remake my very first LD-game too  but this time it's going to be a first for me being away all of Saturday and at least half of Sunday is going to put some extreme limitations on what I can do... so it's time to for once keep to the ambition of making something simple. Extremely simple in fact.
With that in mind, I should probably not make a runner where the world rotates 90 degrees every 10 seconds and if the player hasn't reached the end of the leg, they'll fall off the track.
There's a game idea should we end up with the 10 seconds theme...
Do you need another?
What about a character that emits a light pulse that spreads outwards every 10 seconds. It could be a horror game with a lot of sounds, it could be a platformer or top-down with traps running on time.
But a lot of games will probably be stress related if that theme wins, which makes it more interesting to make slow games. I think it was on LD27 that someone made a very interesting but impossible game about controlling a Mars rover with 10 seconds delay between your inputs and what the rover was doing. Completely impossible, but very interesting. That "Every" word doesn't make it such a good fit but what if you:
Or every 10 seconds you may change how many dimensions the game has by either adding one or subtracting one
It is a bit of an odd day one for me. Quite tipsy. At a spa hotell still thinking about the theme and won't be home until tomorrow but thinking about a game adding one dimension every ten seconds or duplicating the game every 10s, but we'll see tomorrow.
This was hard. It's not the theme I've actively hated the most throughout my time here. Not by far. But it's easier to do something with the you only have one button which is an unconventional weapon and 10 seconds themes than to come up with something for this that didn't feel meh. So perhaps next round I'll upvote the ones I hate the most?
We'll just go ahead and pretend like we've learned nothing from the last 20 LD we've participated in and have a way too ambitious plan. But hear me out, it was either that or go for some theme interpretation that didn't feel inspiring and what's the point in doing that?!
And in the vein of doing everything quite not as one should, lets start by updating Unity so we'll have even less time to implement everything.
So it's going be preparation for a harvest feast, monstrous battles to get the ingredients and hopefully a lot of family members lost in the process, but who cares as long as the pancakes get made. And if the little brothers and sisters are gone, doesn't it mean more pancakes for me?

:whitecheckmark: Ugly hand-drawn sprites with mouse and not using the undo button?
:whitecheckmark: Simple story / dialog system
:x: Having taken breaks like one should
:x: Being optimistic about having enough time to complete the game
:arrow_right: Time to step away from the computer and exercise a bit.
...is hard at work ensuring enough breaks are taken and that I'm not too productive :cat2:
I'm feeling very hopeful about that the theme will make me upset, distraught, and frustrated as usual.
Time for the 34th Ludum Dare in a row! What have I learned from all those events and games? Probably not much  I'm not here to learn, I'm here to have fun.
This time, instead of waiting until last moments to figure out what to do with audio, I've actually asked a musician before the jam even started! So big pat on the back for daring to do that.
I'll be working in Godot and if there's any 3D modelling it will be done in Blender. Krita, Inkscape and GIMP for 2D graphics depending on what the need will be. And then Audacity to work with sound effects and dialogue. The usual stuff basically. No AI.
I'm in the mood for something text-based, light horror set around the topic of home. After having played Stories Untold, I wanted to try something inspired by that. And looking at the themes we have, I'd say there's a fair chance I will be able to shape whatever wins into that. :fingers_crossed:
