We're In!
Hey everyone! My friend Ben and I are working on our first Jam game! This particular theme gives us many directions we can take the game as well as the mechanics we can add. Stay tuned for progress updates from us!
Hey everyone! My friend Ben and I are working on our first Jam game! This particular theme gives us many directions we can take the game as well as the mechanics we can add. Stay tuned for progress updates from us!

We decided to center our game around kind of being trapped in a hard drive that is running out of space. The goal is to escape from the slowly corrupting sectors. The game itself is a platformer (it's definitely WIP, Phaser 3 has quirks with collisions). The main problem we're facing is getting stuck to sides of walls when you jump into them. I'm sure there's a solution out there, but Ben and I are continuing to experiment with our options. It's currently 1:16am, I want to try working on the game for atleast four more hours. Ben will continue on the game around noon-ish and I can sleep while he's at work. As my first Ludum Dare, it's definitely not as stressful as I expected (I say that, just watch it be x_x), but I think we're doing alright. By the end of tomorrow, I hope to have the final art complete. I will share more progress tomorrow!

Today we worked on adding color switches to toggle different colored platforms. I also added a corruption wall that moves towards the player creating a situation of "running out of space". We are also working on adding a battery meter that has to maintain a charge in order for your robot to survive. Ben and I encountered many issues trying to add bullets to turrets. With Phaser 3, there seems to be some quirks with applying velocity to the bullets without making them a static group. Everything is still a work in progress, but it's looking much better than yesterday! Here are our most recent screenshots.

RGBot is a platformer all about toggling colored switches. Your goal is to make your way out of a rapidly degrading hard drive without running out of space. Within the hard drive, data corruption has been moving in on your robot. Can you make it out alive?
My friend Ben Lirio, and myself made this game as our first jam game and we hope you all enjoy it!

All honest ratings and reviews are much appreciated! :)

We have hit 30 ratings, I want to thank everyone for the outpouring of support for RGBot. I have exciting news to share with all of you, which is I will be continuing to develop RGBot into a full game!
If you want to stay updated on the development and release news, like and follow my games Facebook page at: https://www.facebook.com/Jared-York-Games-232567477457451/
Lets shoot for 40 ratings, it would mean the world to me! When Ben and I developed the jam version, we were surprised to see so many people enjoying the game. I have some really interesting ideas that I will be implementing that I hope you all will love.

I really enjoyed creating our game, RGBot last LDJam! I am equally, if not more excited this time around to try to create something interesting. Ben won't be joining me this time around, so it will be my first solo LDJam. I will probably use Phaser 3 this time around, just like last time.
Good luck everyone!
So I’m thinking of making a space program simulation game, but on paper. Because it all works out on paper... until it explodes! :D But seriously, paper rockets will be lit. Here are some of my initial ideas I came up with tonight:

I’m going to go to bed now, but I hope to start making some art with my coffee around 8 or 9am tomorrow!
I can’t wait to see what you are all coming up with.
Spent until 1:30am last night making sure this looks somewhat decent.
A shuttle launch I will be adding as a cut scene. I need to come up with an alternative name for all these rockets... hmm...
A sketch of a Proton rocket I made, I need to come up with a name for this one as well.
Same story for this Ariane 5 rocket. I'm hoping to add more cut scenes if I have time.
The orbital map visible from station view.
I will be posting more updates when they happen!

I finished up tonight by finishing the ability to buy modules to put on rockets, as well as program the first launch scene (as you can see above). That's it... I'm out of coffee, and it's 3:30am... I can't stay awake any longer. Hope you all like what you see above! (and below)

That's all for now. Please let me know what you think!
Jared
I was able to get my game, Paper Space Program finished as much as I could in the 72 hours given. I had a great time both with pushing the boundaries of my comfort zone in terms of JavaScript, but also in the development in general. The art was probably the best part (I love drawing, which is why I figured, "why not just draw all the art by hand?"). I drew all the art on my iPad Pro using the Procreate app. For my language and framework, I used JavaScript with Phaser 3.
You have been hired to be the Administrator of a space agency. In reality? Not really. On paper? Yes. Maybe in reality though, because who knows what burning paper rockets can do. Your objective is to build a space station and gain 1,000,000 discovery points so your agency can develop the technologies to fly to the moon.

I hope you enjoy! A rating is much appreciated.
If you're a space geek, or simply just want a game to play/rate, Paper Space Program is for you!

Sacrifices must be made in the rockets and modules you choose to get the most discovery points with your money.

I'm thinking of adding some more improvements and releasing a post-jam version. What do you guys think? Please let me know. ^_^
Hi everyone! I have added the Sovious-FG rocket to the possibly to-be-released post jam version of Paper Space Program! It is mostly based off of the real Soyuz-FG rocket.

A rating and/or feedback would be much appreciated! :)
Hello everyone! I’m returning for me third Ludum Dare. The hype is so real I accidentally announced on Twitter that it was last week instead of this week, haha. Can’t wait!
Tools I’ll use: Language: JavaScript + Phaser 3 Art: Aseprite, Paint.NET Sound: sfxr Music: GarageBand, or my guitar :p
Good luck to you all!
Not fully sure what I'm going for, but I'm thinking along the lines of you're a billionaire who is building a colony on asteroids in space. In a sense, since all you do is build and manage your colony, in a way your life revolves around money (currency). I'm ending up combining a couple of the themes, I like space exploration, but I also like the theme that won out, so why not combine both?

So I've been up for 19-ish hours now... I managed to get the most of the core game built. Debating whether to add property simulation time, etc. since it seems to be turning into a simulation game. I might do a little bit more work, then I'll take a power nap for a bit...

It's coming along. I stayed up over 20 hours yesterday, took a four hour power nap, then I'm planning to work through most (if not all) the night.

Today I was working on getting power lines and tubes to connect up, they still dont work yet (>.<), but hopefully I can address that before the deadline. I'm currently working on getting communications working, so extraterrestrial landers coming to trade will only come to landing pads within range of your communication buildings. I will also be working on the mining mechanics of mines you can place. I'll be pulling yet a third all-nighter, hopefully I can chip away at the remaining mechanics I want to add.

Hello everyone! I have published my game, Deep Space Outpost! This is a simulation management game where you build a moon colony in a procedurally generated universe. Sell ore you mine to other landers that visit your base!
While I wasn't able to implement and fix major parts, this jam was very enjoyable and I learned a lot.
Visit the game page here: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/44/deep-space-outpost
Hey everyone,
I thought I published my game page on time, five minutes before the jam deadline (6:00pm est.) I checked back a few minutes ago and the page displays "unpublished game." Is there a way to publish it, or am I up a creek without a paddle?
Thanks!
I've done the last four LDJams, and I'm looking forward to this one! I didn't have much extra time to play other games during LD45, but hopefully if all goes to plan, I should be able to score this time around.
Good luck, everyone!
