Third and first person camera tutorial

I forgot to post about it here at the time, but since I often like to do technical write-ups on my jam entries, and LD is all about giving back to the community, I thought I should drop it here too! c:

https://forums.tigsource.com/index.php?topic=66735.0

It's a tutorial I wrote recently on implementing a basic controllable and collision-detecting third person camera for 3D games, as well as addenda about controlling the character relative to the angle of the camera and about slapping on a first person mode as well, in case it might serve to help someone just figuring this out for the first time, just like I had been before compiling what I learnt into this tutorial~

Theme Voting

Looking forward to LD44 - My/Our 3rd Jam! ld.PNG

I suggested some themes this time around

I don't know why but everytime the theme is announced it's always something I have no idea what to do with. Let's hope that isn't the case this time!

My Suggestions

I think that they are all pretty good. Especially the last one. We can all relate to that.

You're slowly going insane. - This suggestion is basically the idea that the player throughout the game starts to go mad and certain things will start to change. If this theme is chosen, I will make a platformer that makes each make your character go more and more insane, changing how different obstacles affect you.

Wait, was this here a second ago? - This suggestion is the concept that items, doors, characters, or any kind of object appears from nowhere or disappears to nowhere. A simple idea, but might be hard to execute. If this theme is chosen, I will make a game about doors that when entered cause items to appear, but when exited disappear.

Breaking the rules. - This suggestion is simply a game about breaking the rules of "how the game is supposed to work". If this theme is chosen, I will make a puzzle platformer that you can use the mouse to move certain objects to help you progress.

Can't wait for LDJam 44! Thank you for reading!

Hey look a bandwagon for me to jump on!

I much prefer shorter themes that leave a lot open to interpretation. I don't want to play a million similar games when it comes to voting :joy:

Okay I'll get in on this!

I'm in as always, but with a caveat!

For the previous three Ludum Dares: 41, 42, and 43, I've made submissions. The first two were Jam games and the most recent was a Compo game. In fact, my LD 41 game, Rainy Day, was the first game I ever released, even if the title of my first finished video game goes to the unreleased Egg Hunt, made in two weeks in time for Easter 2018. That's big and important for someone who has been developing games since 2012 and in Unity since 2013. It felt so good to take advantage of the opportunity that Ludum Dare gave me to share my game and be a part of this community. It also gave me a good incentive to finish in the form of the strict deadline.

As the title proclaims, I will be participating in LD 44, but just as things have advanced before, e.g. moving to making a Compo game instead of a Jam game, there will be another advancement. For all my LD entries, I've worked alone. This is about to change! I will be collaborating with @Terabyte from the other side of the Earth! I first met him during the development of my LD 41 game, and we quickly became great friends! We will put our skills together and try our best to make something even better than Time Gnelf, somehow!

I will mainly focus on the graphical aspects of it: models, materials, animations, visual design, etc., while @Terabyte will mostly be doing the programming. We will share these responsibilities to some extent, though. If there's a mechanic I know exactly how to create, I will probably be the one to do so, and he will be giving me input on the visual aspects of the game.

The sound will probably be mostly from me, but it depends on what the game will be. If we need voice acting, it will probably help to have multiple voices instead of just one.

To see what else I get up to, please check out Helmersoft's itch, my more informal WFMG's itch, Helmersoft's subreddit, Skyways' subreddit, and Helmersoft's YT channel!

I look forward to seeing all of your innovative creations, and to working with @Terabyte for the first time! I know it will be great!

My 5th LD

I did an account swap recently, but as usual, I'm exited to take part.

Our LD 40 Entry is on Steam!

Hi all, sorry for the self-promotion (I always feel a bit weird about it), but really wanted to post about this. We polished up our game from LD 40 and it's turned into our first ever commercial release. We've done every Ludum Dare since August 2012, and in that time we've learned such a massive amount, and that we have managed to get something to a releasable standard is amazing to me. So I'd like to thank LD, Mike and all the community, as we could not have done it without this game jam.

Our game is called Cherry Creek, and it's relatively small in scope (that was the idea!) - it's a tile-turning puzzle game where you click the tile to line up the river and help trees grow. We've always had good feedback on our audio-visuals and atmosphere, so we tried to get that right in this game. It's basically an attempt at a Pipemania style game but set in a natural environment, and with a nice ambience.

If anyone wants to check it out then it's on Steam here: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1018990/Cherry_Creek/

My first Mobile Game is now on Adroid!

Hi all,

Check out my first Mobile Game for Android I released yesterday.

Color Rush is a quick reaction game where you have to match the colors with the falling boxes. You can change the position of the three colors by tapping left or right on the display.

I don't have much experience in mobile development yet and would be very happy about a feedback!

Thanks a lot!
