I wrote a Post Mortem about our game, detailing in particular how we worked together in a group of seven people to create it. If you are interested in knowing how we managed this rather large (for such a short timeframe) group size you can read about it here: https://blog.purplesloth.studio/

Thank you to everybody who has already rated Shrinking Panes. A few people have said that they found it too difficult to win -- and some doubted that it was possible to win at all! -- so I went ahead and created a playthrough video to prove them wrong. :stuckouttonguewinkingeye:
If you haven't played it yet, I recommend you do so here before watching the video so you don't spoil it for yourself.

This is our first ludum dare jam entry. We've been making games for a year now and we've learned a lot from this experience.
The Mansion is a fun platfomer, although a little hard that we had a lot of fun making and playing !
Now that we've fixed level 15, you can finally proceed to the harder levels!

we hope you have fun playing and rating our game here !
Hey, we're back for our 3rd Ludum - with another lewd game!

Check it out: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/42/too-many-harlots
Be sure to leave a comment so we can check out your game too!
As developers, it can be nice to see a long list of compliments on something you made... but it's also not very helpful when people are saying nice things when they don't mean it, but don't want bad ratings in return.
If I'm just poking around and playing games I stay very nice while encouraging weak points, but if you'd like some raw honest feedback (not rude to be rude, but honest), leave a link below. I'm currently looking at playing some games in about 24 hours, would love to build a list to work on.
In the meantime, feel free to leave honest feedback on my game. Honesty with me will not incur vengeance :) https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/42/dirty-duty
Another one of those timelapses
I've seen a bunch myself now, and I think it's quite interesting. This is from my screen, though we were 3 people working on it, 2 of us in Unity.

My lovely playtester and ladyfriend Pilorekt is streaming Ludum Dare games again, starting in 30 minutes (8 PM Pacific)! I'll be with her moderating chat and playing/rating the games on my own as well. Taking your requests!

I'll try to submit your games if you leave a link here in the comments, but I'll probably forget to check this post regularly, so it's better if you use the Twitch commands.
Do you like difficult games? Do you like challenge? Do you like stacking crates in a warehouse? Then I have just the game for you!

I need 3 more comments to make my game have a rate!
This LudumDare game jam, I work alone and finish a shooting game Zerg Coming!.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G_SsuKF0a9g
This is a preview of my game. The core mechanism is that you will fight with 7 round enemies, and you can shoot and dash.
Many comments for my game is that "you did a good pathfinding", so here I want to share with others about the technology below the game.
I use the Unity 2018.2.3f1, and in order to accomplish good pathfinding and group steering behavior, I use these methods below.
First of all, all the enemy has a dynamically simulated rigidbody2d, but there is no collision between enemy and enemy. There only have environment collision with the enemy. This relieves physic engine very much.
I use two steering mode: seek steering and separate steering. If you don't familiar with steering, you can learn these steering modes at The Nature of Code.
When the enemy has a pathfinding route, it will follow the path use seek steering force. Applying steering force instead of simple change velocity direction will make the movement look smooth and natural.

If enemy only has seek steering, they will gradually overlap. To solve this problem, I come up with three solutions:
Since RVO and physic engine solution is bad for performance, I decided to use separate force solution.
Separate force work like this: when another unit is too close to you, you will receive a force to make yourself separate from it. This website explain this clearly.

So, each frame, an enemy will try to get the other near enemies information, and average each near enemy's position, to calculate a separate force.
In order to make finding near enemy information more efficient, I use the point octree to store each enemy position, I use the library UnityOctree. Since update octree is also a time-consume work, I write a simple logic that : If current enemies number is large than 1000, then each enemy every Random(0, 10) frame update its position in octree; if current enemies number is below 1000, then each enemy every Random(0, 5) frame update its position in octree.
Now let's get to the pathfinding. I use flow field to make the pathfinding. If you don't familiar with flow field, here is a simple and clearly article that explains flow field : Basic Flow Fields.
In my achievement, I update the flow field every Random(0, 4) frame. If you understand how flow field work, you will note that update integration field is the most time-consume work. Luckily, there is a paper that uses jump point to efficient update integration field : Faster Dijkstra Search on Uniform Cost Grids(but you need to buy the GameAIPro3 first :) ).
Below is the flow field in my game, where the white lines are the flow field directions :

That's all my accomplish. This is also my first time to join LudumDare, I am happy to join it :) !!
Cluster is a very old hard drive (its maximum storage capacity is 10 GB), but very insightful. Tired of the constant abuses of its owner, by the large number of files downloaded, a rebellion begins in which you can help him to comply with it. Delete each and every one of the downloaded files, before these become hidden in the folders.

Please rate my first ever Ludum Dare Submission to help me have a better understanding about my game-making skills.* I worked alone on this game so please cut me some slack. I'm only 15, so don't expect much.* I had school, and after-school work. It is playable on any platform, except mobile platforms. It's a WebGL game so you can try it out as fast as possible. The game is short and web-based, so it is convenient to play. Anyway, I'm proud that I could complete it in time. It is my first year in actual casual game-making, so please help me improve in my skills. Here are some screenshots:

Please help me out as I need the most realistic feedback possible.

It’s web based, so no download required!
You know how frustrating it is when you receive comments afeter comments about the same bug you could have fix if only you had had 5 more minutes... Right...
What if I would do the unthinkable, the forbidden fruit. To commit another version. Yes, I know, how dreadful.
Well I did it. Don't worry you can still play the old and buggy version and if you were to rate us. You should do so on that one. But honestly it's just not fun to die because of invisible hitboxes.

REVIEW MY GAME AND GET YOUR GAME RATED!! https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/42/shooter-3d
This worked well yesterday so I'm asking again this morning. I'll have an hour for lunch today where I'll get a chance to play some games and rate/leave feedback. I'll be on my work pc so I can't download or install anything, going to have to be webgames only. If you've got a webgame that you'd like reviewed, just drop a link in the comments and I'll get to it later. If I get more than I can play, then I'll get to it as soon as I get back home.
If you'd like to return the favour and review our game you can find it here.
Finally have time to write a blog post about the small game I made. I tried to implement two nice mechanics, and make them fun. Let’s see how you like it. It was my first game jam and I only had a couple of hours time but I really wanted to try Lib Gdx out and submit a game. I definitely had to scale down my first ideas but I hope you still have fun!
https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/42/changing-spaces
My girlfriend and her friend definitely had fun playing this single player game multiplayer :P This was half an hour before the end of the submission hour but I really enjoyed watching them have fun, so I wouldn't have minded missing the deadline. Yeeey submission day!

PS for animal lovers: I started this ludum dare with a post about my cat problems, my cat is now home and healthy ! :)
PS for nerds: definitely try the special mode, the bullets are supposed to follow paths as though they would be on a sphere, check out the cassini map projection if you want to know what I mean.

My Game : https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/42/space-dog-escape

After some thinking about whether to make a website or not, I decided it was about time... Behold! TinyNerd's Games
P.S. My LD42 entry: Shoot O' Space
The biggest lesson I learned in my first LD entry this time, which I think a lot of other games stepping on the same rake in this LD: if you think your level is normal, it probably is difficult; and if you find your level "a bit difficult", it probably is unbeatable. This post discusses a bit about the problem and solution, and since I make a platformer, this post will pretty much be about that genre.
To begin with, it's very sad to see people failing and quitting your game. I have seen people quitting my game on the streams at level 2, while I introduce new mechanics at level 3 and 5. And people left frustrated - the level was too difficult. Even though I had a skip level button, none of the streamer uses it. What's going on here?

So in one hand, you, the dev(s) of the game, have probably play tested the game extensively during 2 3 days. You probably know every trick, you are comfortable with the control, you don't need tutorials to play your own game, perhaps you even remember the whole map too - then there is no reason you do poorly with your levels (except if you're a terrible player like me). So when it comes to judging your game, all of these elements go out of the window, the level becomes so easy for you that you think shit it's too easy others would find it not challenging enough. I've got to bump up the difficulty. Eventually you would perhaps settle down for a level that you find "challenging, but beatable". Congratulations, other people play rating your game would probably never see the end of that level!
On the other hand, people play testing your game are of every kind, liking/being good at different genres. People will most likely spend 5 minutes playing your game if there is nothing making them fall in love with it. Yeah a game could be fun and they could play it all day, but if its not captivating, they rate you 4 for fun and that's it. If you care for the rating, that might be good enough for you. But if you care for the players going to the end, this will not happen with "not too difficult" levels. Worse, players may even quit the game before you introduce a new mechanic. You really don't want this to happen.
So what is the solution? - Check points: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/42/the-red-pixel is a game that applies this extensively, and that is very very effective for platformers with big levels. This won't work if your level is relatively small or if your game is of another genre.
Skip level button is nice, and it was the solution I did to my game, but I realized it wasnt really a good strategy: people don't want to use that, its like saying I cant beat this. The game is a challenge, no one wants skip it, unless they don't really care for it. So you will be in a situation where people who just try to get a glimpse of the game MAY see it all, and people who do care for your game struggle to go all the way through as if the skip button is of no help. But again, it would be nice if you have one, it still helps.
Make sure 90% of the game is in 2 first minutes. If you have some cool mechanic that you want to keep and reveal mid-game? DON'T! Show it right in the beginning. I made this mistake too, and I doubt that half of the people rated for my game even know that they will have a matter gun in level 3.
A perfect solution in my opinion: Gradually lowering the difficulty of the level by alternating the environment as the players fail to pass it. Do not have a skip level button at default to make them engage in the game, but do try to offer players that opportunity when they really need it. For example: you have spikes or walls or enemies? Start to cut down on them if you see players failing 2 or 3 times. If they fails for 5 times, offer a skip button, that's when players may need it and I think they will appreciate it. So this is my perfect solution in theory, I will try to implement that in the next platformer I do (if I ever make a second one after this).
Anyhow, that was my thought on LevelDesign.difficulty. If you haven't played my game of you have quit my game before level 3, you are welcome to give it another go here: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/42/space-invasion. Im very much into interactive environment in game, interactive tutorials, tool tips and all that so Im open for discussion about any of those topics as well.
Below is one of my hardest levels.

Again, DO NOT make "not too difficult" levels!

Heya!
I just translated the post mortem I wrote a couple of days ago in French. As there's somewhat of a French community here in Ludum Dare I thought maybe it would interest some people. If that's the case, you can read it on my blog.
And as always: if you want to play, rate or comment our game, it is called TrackBlasters and is about rc car racing and explosions!

Its my 4th time participating here and it has always been awesome! Took part in 37, 38, 40 and this one. I loved it everytime.
This community is (in my opinion) the best one can have. No toxic conversations, no hate and best of all: 99% of the people can take critizism! That is super mega rare. Be proud of yourself for beeing awesome!

Thanks to everyone who rated and commented on my game! It's great to see so many people who enjoyed my game but also those who are ready to give me criticism so I can continue on improving my game and general game dev skills!
I decided to make a graph which highlights all the comments people have made so far about my game so I can get a better idea on what to improve on.
Well. Pretty obvious what the main issue is :D. That's 37 positives and 28 negatives, that's a 132% satisfaction rate, excellent! I've already started V2.0 which I may even release as a seperate game (though I'm still thinking on that one), once it's done I'll make sure to inform you!

Yeah, thats the main element in my first game for Ludum Dare.
You use the power of a magic camera, that can freeze your enemies and capture crystals just by taking a picture. The only downside to this awesome device is that it can only hold 3 pictures!! Your goal is to capture the crystals and to take them back to their “dock”, without dying ^^

Hello again!
We've been working on a new update for No More Space, and it has finally been released!
https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/42/no-more-space
What we've added and fixed:
Defragmenter: Removes megabytes from the computer that couldn't be deleted (Which was a bug)
Volume Bar: Kind of obvious what it does
Small Main Menu Redesign
Minor bug fixes
Hope you guys enjoy!

Yes, I have at least 20 ratings now, thanks to everyone who rated!
However I'm keen to get more plays so I'm doing a shameless plug for my game, featuring a new trailer.
Let me know which levels you get stuck on, and what can be improved, and thanks in advance for your feedback!

I’m Steve. The programmer, designer and musician on MOODFOOD.
MOODFOOD is a little game we made for Ludum Dare 42! This is the first time I’ve taken part in Ludum Dare and since we’ve been getting some really nice feedback from other developers I thought I’d write a post about it.
The theme for LD42 was “Running out of space”. Once we found out the theme, myself and the other guys who worked on MOODFOOD had about an hour or so of chatting about different ideas.
The most important thing for us was to incorporate the theme in such a way that the core gameplay loop was affected - and hopefully strengthened by it. I’ve been thinking for a long time that I wanted to make a procedurally generated doom-like game. Toying with the idea of playing a doom-like game with a mechanic in place that “removes space” from the playing field, we eventually came to the idea of an area shooter where crushing blocks would remove space steadily from the play space. Essentially the goal of the player would be to just survive as long as possible with endless and increasing waves of enemy difficulty.
The most important thing for me is that the game plays well and feels fun, and so heading into the programming that was my ultimate goal for this project. I set time aside from programming to just play the game and balance it as much as possible to create a good gameplay loop. Obviously this is where time allowed since there is such a huge time constraint during Ludum Dare.
We focused entirely on implementing the elements that would allow us to start tuning the gameplay as quickly as possible, while trying to maintain a data-driven approach.
From a programming standpoint, I made heavy use of the singleton manager pattern for this project. This is where you essentially have GameObjects that have a “Manager” script on them. This script is a singleton (only one per scene) that is globally accessible via a static field. An example of this might be the “WorldGenerator” singleton which was entirely responsible for generating the game world. It would instantiate (and keep a set of references to) all of the tiles in the world and their containing state. This WorldGenerator object was also in charge of managing and mutating the state of all of the tiles (such as when they become “dangerous” i.e. when the crusher is about to drop onto that tile). This is similar to the Entity Component System pattern, but since Unity doesn’t play well with ECS (collision detection on components for example) it has to be some strange mix of the standard Unity pattern and the Entity Component System pattern.
From a design point of view, there have been quite a few comments about where the game could go and gripes with the gameplay. I completely agree with the issues that people have risen with the movement speed. Ideally the movement speed would’ve been higher but I only made this realisation later into development. Further to this, all of the balancing I’d done thus far would have to be reassessed and adjusted to match the new player move speed (for example, the speed of the cyber spyder movement would need to be increased, and jump rate and speed also). At the time it was too late into the jam to realistically be able to adjust the speeds even though I’d wanted to. Another gripe that people bring up is the impact of the shotgun feeling weak. Originally we wanted to have multiple weapons in the game with different styles of play but this became too much work to support. I agree that the shotgun doesn’t feel particularly impactful and thought about ways I could “juice” it like shaking the screen, adding tracers and a better ricochet particle effect. This could have also been improved by knocking back enemies.
People also mentioned enemies spawning behind them. I knew this sucked but I couldn’t think of a decent solution that I could implement in the time constraints provided. Obviously, nobody likes enemies spawning right on top of them. Currently the spawning algorithm just looks for a random “free” tile (i.e. a tile that hasn’t had its crusher dropped on it) and then spawns there.
Overall, I am extremely happy with the feedback we’ve received from MOODFOOD. Almost all the issues that people have risen with the game I completely agree with. If we continue the project in the future then I’ll address them, but in all likelihood I’ll end up moving onto what MOODFOOD is supposed to be!
Thank you to everybody who played and left feedback. I’ve never worked on a project that’s received as much feedback as this and it’s really inspired me to focus more on developing interesting and unique projects.
If anyone would like to know anything about the game, then just ask and I’ll be more than happy to answer.

The game has been doing very well i think and I have some ideas on how to improve it after all the wonderful feedback! Do I wonder if it is necessary to spend time on a more then playable product? Thats why I ask you:
Would you play a better version with less bugs and more features?
Should i spend time on this instead of otter projects?
Some of the features would be:
More options in the menu
Power ups
Bug fixes
Level balancing
More awesome sound effects
Tutorial
and more

We got a comment on our game Wingman I wanted to address. In the game, the player has a sheild capable of blocking incoming shots towards their ship while the ship is unshielded. The question is, why didn't they just put the shield on the ship? I KNOW this question is bothering everyone, so I wanted to address it here.
You can play it here: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/42/wingman
The reason that the spacesuit is shielded and the ship is not comes down to power consumption. Lets say that it takes 1 PU (Power Unit, the standard unit of energy in the far future) to create a 1 square meter shield. The equation for the area of a sphere is A=4πr2, so a spherical shield around the player with a radius of 1 meter would take 12.57 power units. The ship is significantly bigger and would take a spherical shield with a 5 meter radius, which unfortunately would consume 314.16 power units. As you can clearly see, projecting the larger shields becomes prohibitively expensive in terms of energy consumed, especially when the ship's power generator also has to supply power for the thrusters and the jump to lightspeed.
We could get around this by just producing the shield when the ship is about to be hit, but unfortunately shield technology doesn't have an instant on feature and it takes some time for the disruption field to be generated so the instant on solution just won't work. In the same way, the disrution field has to be generated around a central point which prevents just producing the shield along certain defensive arcs. Tre'vaar Technologies supposedly has a new disruption field generator utilizing the sinusoidal resonance of Etherium focused through a miniaturized black hole that would solve some of these problems, but scientists are divided if this is possible. Some believe that it will not work, while the others belive it will briefly, but will then result in the destruction of the universe.
So now everyone can rest easy knowing the scientific accuracy of the game about a space pirate being pursued to his lightspeed jump point by enemies.
Thank you for your time.
(@stames I'm just picking on your comment that was clearly made in jest  I appreciate the comments and feedback, but I like giving specific answers to questions that were made in jest and don't really require a response)
