First time in a MiniLD

When I first saw the minild theme, I thought “Man, this theme is no good”. But anyway, it surely can be explored in some interesting ways. As I’m on vacation, I didn’t have anything else to do, so I said “Well, why not? It can be a good exercise if nothing else.” And so I began.

Probably because I’m a very lucky person, my net connection went down when I was starting, so I had no access to my fancy HTML5 engine, nor my C++ codebase (new OS installation, no gcc/clang).

I searched a little in my files and found my old but still good HTML5 framework, html5.js. It contains just the basics to open up the canvas.

I knew I may had a hard time getting physics to work, having to deduce all the equations, so I kept everything simple: circles. After a night I had the physics working, an began working in the game mechanics.

The result (I’m still working in some new mechanics) can be seen below:

Soon(or maybe not so soon) I’ll post I link so you guys  can try it out. It’s addictive, I must warn you.

Insane Adventure of Andy is pretty crazy and ready!

The Insane Adventure of Andy is here:
http://ludumdare.com/compo/minild-58/?action=preview&uid=24404

Play as Andy, a Paddle that is tired of Pong… Just look at his face, truly, a paddle that has been through much. Help Andy become MORE!

Good luck everyone on your entry, MINILD!

Ludum Dare 32 – I’m in!

I’m in for my fourth Ludum Dare! It didn’t go so well last time, so I hope I can do better this time. I’d really like to get into the top 500 this time. Of course, Ludum Dare is such a good way to practice that I don’t really care about how I rank, but it’s always good to get a good score.

Tools I will be using :

Engine : Unity3D, (EDIT : Il’ll probably use A* pathfinding for Unity.)

Graphics : Photoshop CS5

Audio : A random music generator, probably Abundant Music as well as BFXR if I need sound effects

Planning : Evernote and the good ol’ pen and paper

Good luck to everyone who will be participating!

Mini-LD #58 – Blorf Pong

Hello. Have you ever wanted to play Pong but thought to yourself, “The problem with Pong is that it doesn’t make me feel sick!”?

I can fix that for you. Oh boy, and how.

Made in a few hours just for the sheer perverse pleasure of making something nausea inducingly horrible, I give you Blorf Pong.

blorf-point

Features:

  • An AI that will almost certainly never let you win.
  • Dodgy collision detection on the paddles
  • Music that will give you nightmares
  • Post-processing shaders that will make you physically ill.

I think it’s a masterpiece. Blorf yourself to Pongy Oblivion on it’s MiniLD entry page.

“50 pings of pong” is kinda finished

http://ludumdare.com/compo/minild-58/?action=preview&uid=30018

I went with idea of making several modes of pong which change each other in some sort of “survival” mode. These modes aren’t super original, though two of them can be of interest I think. Currently there are 6 mods besides basic pong.

Enjoy!

Nearly a week later, P.O.N.G is done

Hello!

I’ve had a great near week working away for my first MiniLD and around 14 (ish) working hours later my first (sort of) complete game, P.O.N.G is done!

Feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Ragdoll Pong

Ragdoll Pong has been completed!

I must warn you that it is super addictive so if you’re on your way to work it is better not to play it. To play it head over  to http://ludumdare.com/compo/minild-58/?action=preview&uid=49808

Have fun guys!

My first ever game

You though I wouldn’t be in here, didn’t ya? Well, you probably didn’t because you probably don’t know me. But anyway, this is my first game, and when I saw the theme I though “Why not give it a try?” (Yes, I talk to myself). So I made MultiPong. I still need to do many things, but if you want a, hum…, lets call it “Early Access”, download it here: (Still no gfx, bg, sound, menu… Probably gonna recode it from scratch XD) http://www.mediafire.com/download/ubp2a1yh684p19w/MultiPong.jar

You need Java 7 or newer to run the game. The controls are simple: Up and down arrows to move both the paddles (you are left and bottom)

Flying square things!

Pong Knights is aaalmost done! I think I’m settling with just an arena shooter for now. Oh and also, just added new stuff:

flying2

Omg! Lots of flying square things! Can you survive them all with your trusty paddle?

The game is actually quite playable now, but there’s still lots of stuff that needs to be added (e.g. sounds, more enemy types, balancing, etc), so I will be constantly updating the game.

If you want to check out the current build: Play Pong Knights v0.9

ReversedPong – My Entry

7 days, 13 new classes and roughly 500 new lines of code later I have finished my game, ReversedPong.

Its my first “complete” game so any feedback will be appreciated! 😀

Thinking of hosting a real-life meetup in Reading, UK

Hi,

If there’s anyone in or around the Reading area interested in attending a real life meetup, I’m thinking about hiring out the Novatel or the Ibis – let me know of interest (would likely be a small fee to cover costs) and I’ll look into it if there’s enough of you.

Intergalactic Pong – MiniLD 58 Entry

Just submitted my entry for MiniLD 58 (Intergalactic Pong) last night.

Same rules as regular pong except everything is now set in space and the ball is now an asteroid and there are planets that can pull the ball in and also the ball can wrap around the screen because space.

20 days and I don’t know what to do…

Till now I’ve been working with XNA 4.0 with C#, but it isn’t that good game engine.

I’ve been searching for a good 2D game engine in c# but I haven’t found one yet. May I start to learn Java in this 20 days? Can you suggest me a good 2d game engine (except Unity and xna) in c#, with collision detection, and other basic stuff?

PLEASE HELP ME! 😀

Why not Unity though? It’s the best C# game engine IMO.

Why not Unity??? Easy, awesome, and 2D

If you already know C#, Java isn’t that different, so it shouldn’t be too difficult for you to pick up. Also, Unity is a good engine to learn. Probably your best bet for a really flexible engine, and the scripting is in a language you are already familiar with.

I agree that Java is pretty similar to C#.

SurvivorPong is now complete – Wanna try?

Hi everyone, I just have submitted my MiniLD #58 entry, SurvivorPong. It is my attempt at remaking Pong by adding a bit of challenge. The idea is you have to stop a deer from running into leopards which are hiding under leaves, and the score is how much time you can survive.

There is small issue for Mac users. If you want the game to run, please run the game with the command line option -XstartOnFirstThread. Otherwise LWJGL 3 won’t start and throws an exception.

Also the game needs a GPU which supports OpenGL 3.3 or higher, and Java 8 runtime. By the way, this is just my second real game, so please give me constructive criticism if I have done anything in a wrong way.

Here is the link to my entry.

Ponball – The last days

Sounds like an interesting movie-title!

I have all of tomorrow to finish Ponball. I finally decided on the main game-mechanics and improved the visuals (at least I think I did :)) to procrastinate the coding work …

Will post once I am done tomorrow.
