Looking for an artist!

I’m planning on entering the next Ludum Dare and I’m looking for an artist!

I mainly use Flash AS3 but I’ve worked with a wide range of technologies.

You can check out some of my games here: http://4urentertainment.newgrounds.com/

Here’s an early game that won #1 in innovation! http://ludumdare.com/compo/2012/05/14/1-in-innovation-post-mortem/

Let me know if you’d like to collaborate and do something new and interesting!

I actually finished a LD entry for once. BreakPong. (MiniLD 58 Postmortem)

Granted, it’s a MiniLD, but still. Feels good man. Before submitting it, I looked at the other entries, and it seems there are two other entries with the same concept (and one with the same name >_>), but with different executions. This was pretty easy to make, that combined with the week long development period is why I finished my entry rather than ending up with a partly finished non-entry like I usually do in Ludum Dare.

Gotta love that week-long window. Feels like an extravagant amount of time compared to the usual LD madness, definitely makes for a much more manageable project. Congrats on finishing off yours, I hope to be joining you all tomorrow.

MiniLD #58 – Typing of the Pong – Post-mortem

Since I am planning on taking part in the coming LD #32 in April I decided I would get some practice in through the MiniLD #58. With the theme of Pong I originally started my game as a Typing of the Dead / Pong hybrid but as it progressed it became more Dance Dance Revolution / Pong just to keep it simple.

Typing of the Pong

The game itself was fairly straight forward to make but I have learned a lot about what are good ideas and what aren’t when it comes to implementing them in a quick game project. The game is in a playable state but I ran out of time to implement music, high scores and a few other nice to have features.

Mine certainly isn’t the best of the entries but I really enjoyed making it and found having a goal makes it so much easier to be motivated to program. I definitely have enough confidence after this to go in to the coming LD #32 knowing that I can get a game finished in a short space of time.

My First MiniLD – Core Influence

Hey everyone!  I had a complete blast taking part in MiniLD #58 and I can’t wait until Ludum Dare #32.  This was my first time participating in a game jam and my first time actually completing a game from start to finish.  Since I wanted to know if I could actually complete something within the 72 hours for the jam (minus sleeping 6 hours/night <my daily average/week>, eating, bathroom breaks, whatnot), I left myself with 48 hours.  I finished just under that mark; timing myself with my iPhone stopwatch, whenever I did anything related to the game over the week.

I started out with a short one liner: “A game where the player must defend their core element from negative influences and allow positive influences to add to their core”, then worked the PONG theme into that.  The one liner came out of the thought of the influences that we encounter throughout our life cycle and how we reject or accept those influences; developing ourselves as a result of those encounters.

From there I began jotting down ideas and sketching out scenarios into a notebook.  Once I got enough down, I opened up illustrator and photoshop to make my initial game art to get things started in Unity.  Throughout the whole development process, I learned so much and found focal points of study to improve my skills.

Simple Pong done

pong

It’s done a pong with nothing extra. I decided to cut all the features before I even started.

So I ended up makeing a simple Pong clone. At least I finished what I wanted to do.

So if you want to play a simple pong that might be harder then it seems at first go ahead and try my Simple Speedy Pong.

Using music to control ball movements

Saturday the 22, I started to code the pong with the main idea that the music should control the ball. By typing “ping pong music” on youtube I directly found the Armin Van Buuren music “Ping-Pong”, it seems appropriate for calibrate the game.

For copyright reasons I could not provide the music with the game. I asked DJs on soundcloud if I could provide their free remix of the track with my game. As the main melody remains the same, the algorithm is strong enough to make it work (I made few changes to make it good with the remix). You can also try your music but nothing is guaranteed, the game could be very slow due to the lack of notes.

Won a game is little bit challenging: because you don’t have many opportunities to score a point. You need to take risks for that. The game is calibrated that you should be able to catch all balls.

The results are encouraging but not perfect. Unfortunately I do not have time to continue, because I have some things to do in real life. You can try it here.

It’s just… Pong

Just submitted my mLD58 “entry.” Just stuck with a simple Pong clone, so I wasn’t incredibly ambitious.

pong1

However, I did to some thing’s that I’d never done before with the new Unity UI system. That was a stumbling block of mine in the past which led me to abandon several projects: UI. Now that Unity has its own (good) UI system, I feel like I can work on more ambitious projects in the future.

pong2

But anyways, my entry is just Pong, but I had fun throwing this together in a couple hours, so I’ll call this mini LD a success.

Here is the submission page and you can play the game in-browser here.

All Done!

I’ve finally finished my entry for MiniLD #58. The game is called “Just Straight Up Pong” and all it is is a simple 2D Pong clone written entirely in raw Javascript, no libraries or game engines. You can play the game here.

Play the game once, or twice or however many times you like and let me know how I did, or how I can improve. I didn’t have as much time as I would’ve liked to work on it, but any feedback would be awesome. :)

Note: There is an issue with the game dimensions on the hosting page, causing it to scroll up and down with the paddle’s movement. I will see if I can get it fixed today.

Pongstruction: Phew, finished it, at least kinda

Gahh, life came in the way and didn’t have as much time as I would’ve liked to finish this one up. It has three levels, menus, you can lose the game and win the game. No sounds and the graphics are not really consistent with each other, but I can live with this being my first Ludum submission :)

Hope you check it out and get at least a little bit of a kick out of it (I did making it) 😀
Cheers! See you at the actual ludum dare!

Pong Unshackled

So my first ever game is complete. When i first saw the dare, one idea popped in my head, A.I. So i decided to sit down over the week and make a pong a.i. unshackled type of game.

Pongunshackled

After 9 days, constant interruptions from family, dating, and of course Bloodborne, i’ve finished my first ever game. It’s not perfect, and if you find any bugs, i’m sorry. But here it is, I hope you like it.

PongHole (MiniLD)

So, i just finished my MiniLD entry, it’s a very simple pong-clone, as expected, but with 2 small twists:

1) It was designed for digital controllers, so the controls are very very simple. Arrow keys to position the paddle at 4 predetermined positions.

2) The rules are a bit different, instead of using the paddle to avoid the ball to leave the screen, the idea is to use the paddle to avoid the ball hitting the center of the screen.

3) Multi-ball, because, why not?

Yes, it’s simple and not very creative, but it works. For the most part. :)

Vectro Wars – Pong on an Oscillator

Hello Ludum Dare participants & visitors,

We made a game about pong (duh). The core of the game play consists of a merger between Pong and Astroids. We focused mainly on the visuals, where we tried to recreate the aesthetics of an old oscillator. V-syncing issues, RGB-shifting and screen-shake included.

There are three major game modes: single player, CO-OP and versus. Try them all out, it’s local so you should be able to convince someone in your direct or in-direct surroundings to join you.

Please tell us what you think and what could be added / removed / changed for a post-ludum release!

We are excited to play your game also!

Greetings and kind regards; the Random Abductions + Midas team.

Pong Escape

Well, I just finished my first Mini-LD game. I’ve entered in 4 LD’s, but this is my first Mini.

The inspiration for this game came to me, when I saw the Theme was Pong. For 8 days, I dismissed this because Pong is such a stupid and repetitive game! And then it came to me, I should make a game about rebelling against Pong. In this game, you are a pong ball escaping from the game because you are sick of the repetition.

This game isn’t very good, cuz I only worked on it for about 6 hours. But for the time I spent, its pretty decent.

My MiniLD #58 Entry

Neon PONG Screenshot

I didn’t do anything too special on mine, it’s pretty much just a PONG clone. This was my first Ludum Dare and I had a lot of fun! I can’t wait for the main Ludum Dare coming up!

Ruddle Battle ! – MiniLD #58

Finished and uploaded Ruddle Battle few hours back ! Had loads of fun creating this game, and participating in Ludum Dare for the first time !

Went for the minimal approach for the in-game graphics and decided to use bold colours, and candy style graphics for the UI.

Just play the game (and possibly have fun) and let me know how I did and how I can improve.

[Note] Sometimes the ball may get trapped due to ball’s velocity becoming very low from awkward hits form the AI or the Player, if this happens, just restart the level using the pause menu

One & Done :)

Update: If anyone had trouble with local multiplayer, this has been fixed in the current version :)

Okay, I didn’t get quite everything I wanted in there, but it still ended up in decent shape. Here’s my entry for MiniLD58, OneShot.

Even with the extra days I still ended up a little pressed for time towards the end, but a very late one last night help carry the day. I’m too frazzled to say much beyond that at the moment, but I’m looking forward to checking out everyone’s stuff once I catch a breath. As ever, it was a blast and I look forward to the next time.

Sizzle is done!

My MiniLD58 entry Sizzle is done! …more or less…there are a few things I would have liked to tweak, but it’s all come together ok in the end. Congrats and great work to everyone that joined in too! :)
