LD26 April 26–29, 2013

I’m in too!

I’ve done a few gamejams, but this will be my first solo 48hour effort.  Most interested in seeing how a deadline impacts a pants-optional dev environment.

I’ll be using
– Unity3D, C#

– GIMP

– Reaper

– A MIDI controller keyboard and bag full of electronic doodads for sounds

I’m in!

This is my third Ludum Dare. Didn’t finished something last time, so I’m even more motivated!

I will use ImpactJS, or Unity if I decide to make it 3D.

Good luck!

Here we go again

This will be my 1st year Ludum Dare birthday ;) Let’s have some fun!

Tools I will be using:

  • Language: Coffeescript
  • Engine: Impact
  • Editor: Vim
  • Graphics: Pixen
  • Sound: Bfxr

Obligatory crime scene photo:

Netmute's desk

You may also be interested in a game I build a month or so ago. It’s called Parkour:

I’m in (with some restrictions)

I am in!

This will be my second ludum dare, previous was 24 where I made the brain-hurting platformer Dusty Balls http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-24/?action=preview&uid=14709

This time the participation might be tough, because I am going away for the weekend to see some friends and play boardgames and have a good weekend overall, but I’m too tempted to pass the chance to dare the ludum. :)

( (c) www.satwcomic.com )

So, I’m gonna stream through Twitch.tv like before: http://www.twitch.tv/baburo/.

Most of the time you will probably just see some drunk finnish guys playing boardgames and shouting at each other but I hope to squeeze some developing time in there too.

I learned about LibGDX a week ago, so I’m gonna give it a shot, seems like a cool library.
Also it’s time to improve my Java skills which has gone rusty as I’ve been using mainly C# for a few years now.
I might use the tween engine for LibGDX too: https://code.google.com/p/java-universal-tween-engine/.

Other tools I’m using:

– 3DS Max 9
– Photoshop
– Pickle
– Pyxel Edit
– Musagi
– Potatoes

Have fun everyone!

Perhaps

Hi. I’m Kaphonaits. I’ve participated in three previous Ludum Dare compos, I finished 2/3 of said entries. That being said, I might participate in this upcoming compo if I have the time. I might not be able to finish because of Sunday plans, however if I’ll be releasing what I finish regardless with lots of comments and stuff so people can read it and either learn from it or stalk me on the internet just to constantly tell me I suck at programming and should kill myself twice because of it.

Anyway, I’ll most likely make my game in C/C++ with SDL/SFML2. I’ll probably use SFXR/Audacity for audio, GIMP/Paint.NET for graphics, and MSVS/Sublime depending on what OS I do my work on.

Have a nice day everyone 😀

We’re in!

Hi Ludum Darers!
Call us crazy, but a colleague and I are setting up shop for the weekend with about 12 of our game development students. It’s the first time for all involved and should be good fun!
It’ll be the first game most of them have ever made, so I think many of them are opting for the Jam. Possible tools include:

  • Flash Pro/Builder/Develop
  • Unity
  • Java
  • Photoshop/Illustrator/Fireworks/Inkscape/Paint
  • Garageband/Bfxr

Any tips for first-timers would be much appreciated :). Sleeping bags and energy drinks at the ready!

Try to know what you’re going to make ASAP. Trust me, it helps a lot. I actually failed my last dare because I wasn’t sure about this or that with only ~28 hours left on the clock.

a good tip is to prepare and read plenty of the “what to do in a game jam” things that are around.

Hey its not my first time 😛

Mars Miner was mine XD

I’m in

Hello, this is my first Ludum Dare and at the same time my first real game:)

I will go in the jam just so I have more time and I may work in team if my graphics artist feels like he would join, I don’t know, I may make everything from scratch:)

  • Environment: Java + Eclipse or C# + Visual studio 2012 Ultimate depends on my mood.
  • Libraries: For Java I’m going to write one from scratch, for C# I will actually use XNA or MonoGame.
  • Graphics: Gimp, Pickle, PyxelEdit, Graphics Gale, Paint.NET.
  • Audio:  Fl Studio, Inudge, SFXR, BFXR, Audacity.
  • Others: I may use Photosop cs6 for making some splash stuff for my game and some other random stuff.

Good luck, Have fun.

First time entering

Hi there, this is my first time doing something like this. I have made many games/ experiments already but never really finished or released anything. I wonder how much I can do in 48 hours.

Anyways, this is what I plan on using

  • Enviroment: GameMaker; Although it sucks for large projects, it is great for making something workable in a short time frame.
  • Graphcis: Mypaint for backgrounds, Gimp for everything else
  • Sound effects: Bfxr; it is simply awesome for creating sound effects
  • Music: Public domain music, possibly wolfram tones; I have very little musical talent, so I have to keep it simple here

The weird thing is that I like using GameMaker for quick game making even though I run linux. It runs perfectly in wine though.

By the way, I upvoted Potato. I am very interested to see what kind of things people come up with if that becomes the theme.

I potato does not become the theme (which it probably won’t) I plan on adding a potato easter egg, just ’cause

Let’s talk about 6

The 6th time, the arrival of Ludum Dare came from the behind. But it seems it’s really that time again.

Last LD, I created a perfect game, and it would’ve revolutionized arcade gaming if it wasn’t for you meddling kids. Now that there’s nothing left for me to conquer on that horizon, I feel like making something more abstract this time, like an interactive toy/simulation/”art game”. I suppose my code structure and such will reflect this too (I wouldn’t want to write the same pseudo-engine for the nth time).

Either way, now I want to do something different and just get into that improvisational creative outburst mode, because that’s the best way to get something out of LD.

(I secretly hate making games and only do it for these blog posts)

Not sure how much time I will actually be able to put into it as i’ll be out of town, but i’ll try anyways

Language: Java w/LibGDX in Eclipse
Graphics: Photoshop 5 & paper/pen
Sound: Bfxr

good luck everyone.

I’m in !

A warm Hi from France !

It’s that time of the year again and after some time far from the LD world I’m very glad to get back here. For this edition I’ll be using:

– AS3 / FlashPunk with FlashDevelop

– Photoshop CS6 / Pickle Editor

– Ogmo Editor (depending on theme)

– FL Studio

See you in a few days, I can’t wait !

Alex

I’m in – first timer

I hope this goes well.

  • I’ll be using game maker 8.0 PRO for programming.
  • Photoshop and the built in graphics editor in game maker.
  • FL Studio Producer edition, Audacity, and BFXR for sounds.

This is my first time to join Ludum Dare, my friend told me this was gonna be awesome so might as well try.

It’s my first time too! gl hf

LD26 Themes, Round 3!

About all I have to say for this one is that I was considerably more polarized than in rounds 1 and 2.

Haha “Ludum Dare virgin”, best terminology I’ve heard.

Time Management (in my fantasy world)

Since this is my first LD, I’m sure I’ll be panicked. As a programmer, I’ve learned how little I can accomplish if I’m not well organized. So I think that planning and organizing is the key to finish a game in time. Here’s a rough outline of my time management strategy (in my fantasy world):

Overall plan: Day 1 – Basic mechanics, Day 2 – Polishing, level design and sound (if any)

Principles:

  • Split the work into manageable chunks (e.g. 1 hour) and try to finish each within that time.
  • Plan carefully before doing things. (This is hard for me.)
  • Keep a good TODO list.
  • Review the overall progress and update the plan every 6-8 hours.

Now, it’s a time to put this into a real world test. This looks already overwhelming, but in any case this is a big experiment to me.

Statement of in-tents

Hello all!

My name is Fussy. I’m writing this extremely formal letter to state my intents for the upcoming Ludum Dare.

I will be working with my friend in the Jam, her doing art, I doing most everything else.

Tools she’ll be using:

  • Photoshop Elements 8
  • Wacom Tablet
  • FFSplit for livestreaming
  • Timelapse software I do not remember the name of

Tools I’ll be using:

  • Visual Studio 2010/2012 Professional
  • XNA
  • Paint.Net for various things
  • Possibly FL Studio, probably not

This will be my second time in the LD, our first time in the Jam.

Note: I’ll be streaming at twitch.tv/fussycashew

I’m not sure if she’ll be streaming, but if so, she’ll be on twitch.tv/spammyshadow

Good luck!

New beginnings

I’m in ( if time permits )
