LD26 April 26–29, 2013

Just gone midnight…

I said to myself that I would practice over the next seven days to get me ready for LD26, but as I sat there before I realised this whole warm-up thing is not such a bad idea. So as it’s gone midnight I am going to give it a go.

Ideas haven’t started forming much yet, so I am going to give myself a name and a theme to hopefully give this thing at-least some structure. The name will be Dark Fortress, and the theme will be Trapped Underground. Also as I have never built a platform based game before, that’s what I’ll be shooting for.

To build this thing I am going to use the following:

  • Xamarin and MonoGame targeting Windows for now.
  • Tiled to create tile-maps.
  • Graphics Gale for a majority of the art-work, however I’ll use Photoshop for any scanning that needs doing.
  • FL-Studio to make some music and sound effects (using build in instruments only).
  • Audacity for tweaking masters and fixing sound defects after export from fruity.

As I am new to all this here’s a bit of an intro on who I am. My name is Aimee Bailey, and I am the solo programmer at Xpod Games (http://xpod-games.com). Along with a friend named Rob we have been working hard over the last year or so to start getting ourselves noticed. Our aim is always to do something a bit out of the box, that often means we create Marmite but we feel it’s better to be different than boring.

Anyway time to get working, I’ll keep you updated on how things are getting along with screen shot’s etc.., and with any luck I’ll have something ready for you to get your mitts on in a few hours time.

Taking part in Ludum Dare 26!

So next weekend I will be taking part in Ludam Dare 26 with my best friend, we are setting up at his house as a programmers haven but taking part separably of course.

He introduced me to Ludum Dare a month ago and I feel I need to do this for a personal reason which will be contained here, I am very shy about presenting my work so this will be a way of getting over that!

As for what I will be using during the weekend:

  • Hardware: A PC which has a lot of cat pictures, a laptop with not many cat pictures, a head set and a crappy microphone.
  • Languages & tools: I will be using XNA to create the game and using Visual Studio 2010.
  • Library/framework:  I will be using the Farsser Physics Engine.
  • Audio: I will be recording audio with cheap microphone and then using FMOD to edit.
  • Art: Paint and Photoshop
  • Food Supplies: I will survive on Tea, whiskey, pizza and fried chicken.

It’s scary to think I will be taking part in this but I look forward to it, I think after this I will really start trying to get the games I have created out into the world for others to see!

Warmup Game – Paint Share

I just finished up and posted my LD26 warmup game (though it’s more like an app).  It’s a simple paint application that lets you share a drawing with other users, while being shown a stream of other users’ shared drawings:

Right now there are only the 10 drawings I created , but I’m hoping to get quite a few more so there’s a steady stream of images to keep users interested.  More details can be found on the game page.  I hope you enjoy.

Game Page       Play Paint Share

(Works best in Chrome, but it’s not required)

A game I’ve made – Match Cubed

A few weeks ago I started a Match 3 project called Match Cubed that I intended on finishing. Finishing a game is hard and lately I haven’t been finishing any game I’ve started. This one I’ve stuck with and would come to a point where I’d say it’s complete. I don’t have to stop working on it but for me, it’s got what I want in it without looking 100% amateurish. This will hopefully have gotten me ready for this Ludum Dare enough to finish.

Match Cubed

In this one

Yeah.  Let’s see what I can do in 3 days, given that my other stuff got out of the way.

Going to make it this time

Greetings!

I actually tried to put up a game last LD but well I overextended and ended up burning out. However I have been putting in a lot of practice so hopefully I can make it this time.

Tools:

Haxe NME, possibly Flambe, Pixel Edit and Pixel tone.

In one week let’s seize the day.

Well you asked for it!

Or maybe you didn’t?

It looks like I’m actually going to be able to participate.

That’s right. You don’t need to check your eyesight as you did read that correctly.

I’ll state it again I’m actually going to be able to participate.

Streaming the Hack-a-Jam

Since it’s Hack-a-Jam time, I’m going to make a game and stream, so I warm up streaming as well (it’s my first stream!). I’m also going to submit it for LD warmup and 1GAM [edit]No, I’ll better submit my LD entry for 1GAM[/edit]. My channel: http://www.twitch.tv/Rodzos.

Entering the Ludum Dare

Hello Everybody!
Team Something Beautiful is accepting the challenge of the Ludum Dare!
This time, we are planning to launch our first Android game!

So good luck to all and see y’all on the Ludum Dare’s battlefield :)

May the best game win !

I’m in for my second Ludum Dare

So, I’m in for my second Ludam Dare. Really enjoyed last summers and did Indie Speed Run over Christmas with Bumpkin Brothers. So Looking forward to making my 3rd jam game and 2nd solo project.

I’ll be using Unity as the engine, with 2D toolkit if required. And as always the excellent and epic iTween library.

Illustrator and paint.net will be used for graphics.

Music will probably be Garage Band but I may one day carry out my threat to play guitar.

Right.. Off to lay a floor so I’ve got plenty of time next weekend.

I guess I’m in.

This time I’m sure it will be a hard time BUT I won’t give up. So let’s keep it short:

Engine: No more IGM2E. Since joining Fourbytes and splitting up from Forlorn Existence (and re-joining to Novum Mundum) I’ve been working on a new engine named “Shadow”. I must merge some changes from NM to SH ASAP (mainly performance stuff and fluids and stuff) and then upload the source. It’s based on LibGDX. Maybe I’ll release an Android version of the LD game..?!

Music: I’ve got some random app on my Android phone. I’ll use it for ‘inspiration’. Later on I’ll try to re-create the project in FL Studio.

Graphics: Gimp.

Coding: Eclipse.

Operating System: No. Not Windows. Linux is my best friend!

Streaming (only sometimes because of LAG): You may guess… FFMPEG? Yeah.

Tip, if you build ffmpeg yourself you CAN build a version that due to licensing clashes is technically illegal.

I have one of those builds 😀

I’m In!

My third ludum dare, this time I’ll try to target flash with haxe.

I never quite get how to make java applets and it’s easier to play LD games in browser :P

  • Computer – Win7 Dell Vostro
  • Language/Framework – Haxe + NME
  • Graphics – Gimp
  • Audio – bfxr + everything I can record on microphone

In I am

I’ll join the jam this time again!

Tools: Webstorm, paint.net, bfxr, abundant music, tiled, blender
Libs: Three.js, howler, cannon.js

Happy coding everyone!

I am IN [:

Hows it going everyone?

I guess I don’t have anything much to say, but I am in. This will help me get off my current project and gain more inspirience and allow me to try a neat idea in warm up. For that stay tuned.

I’ll be using either Unity or something like haxe/as3. Still have not decided, will see how my warm up with unity goes.

Graphics: Photoshop CS2

Editor: Visual Studio/FlashDevelop

Modeling: Blender

Have a nice day (: And good luck.

P.S. Ill be streaming LD and warm up @ twitch.tv/drraylv Drop by and say hello. (:

I be entering!

Im entering Ludum Dare for the first time this coming weekend.

Anything else I need to do to join?

I’m not in so here’s some code you can adapt

My barebones.js webGL library now has a basic heightmap-based terrain and simple camera system:

barebones.js_20130416-190131

It is hopefully simple enough and isolated enough that you can borrow it, adapt it, or learn from it without needing to adopt barebones.js.

It does top-down and 3D views, and makes it easy to work out where the user clicked and to update the map tiles.  Grid is optional.

Each tile can have its own texture etc.

So go make an RTS or something!

Good luck!

Statement of Intent

Good graces to the masses. Here I stand to make my declaration… I, once more, shall be participating in Ludum Dare.

To this end, I list my trusty tools:

I look forward to the time when battle commences.

I’m In

Im in, will be my first time,

I will be using:

language, Java

Liberary, Standard

Graphics, Gimp, and/or Standard Java Graphics,

i will  livestream using Xsplit.

LD26: I’m In!

Looking forward to next weekend!

I’ll be using the same setup as last time (MOAI + Lua).  Unless My Rift dev kit arrives, then I may be persuaded to make a VR game! :)
