LD25 December 14–17, 2012

As always, I’m All In.

Hey hey everyone!

CNIAngel here to say that I’m in again. I’ve improved since the previous LD and I’m really hoping to pull out a good one. I was going to put up my warmup game as my “I’m In” post, but hit a couple snags xD

Anywho, here’s my tools.

Code: Java (with LibGDX/Box2D)

IDE: Eclipse

SFX: SunVox (For music) and BFXR/SFXR (for sound effects)

Graphics: Aseprite (For sprites and Animation) and GIMP (For large pieces)

I can’t wait for this weekend and I wish everyone the best of luck! 😀

Here We Go Again

This will be our little group’s third consecutive Ludum Dare Jam. We are a bit more familiar with PyGame this time around, and we’ll be doing our best to fight off the feature creep that dogged us last time. That said, there are so many good themes in the pool, and the possibilities of taking them and combining them with holiday themes sound quite hilarious.

We will have 2-4 coders, a designer/artist, and maybe some musical people if we can scrounge them up. I’m also hoping we’ll get some people from the livestream to help out like the last two jams. It was really cool during LD23 to have our main character sprite come from a viewer in Hong Kong.

Tools:
Language/IDE: Python/Sublime 2/Vim
Frameworks: Pygame
Audio: sfxr/bsfxr/Audacity
Graphics: GIMP, Paint.NET
Source Control: Mercurial
Communication: Mumble/Pidgin
Fuel: Burritos, Dr. Pepper, Raspberries, and Pandora One

Of course I will be timelapsing the whole endeavor, and livestreaming will occur at http://www.twitch.tv/syncarn.

Howdy

Happy to announce I will be participating in Ludum Dare 25

Not sure if I will stream though I will most likely upload a time lapse here:  https://www.youtube.com/user/MYTHICsoftware

Will most likely be using:

-Flash / Flashpunk

-Flash Builder

-Ableton Live

-Blender

Stocking up on Nos and Doritos. Will be using Pandora for music.

If i have time I may make a website for playing the game inside of which will be interactive as well.

Good luck to you all and as always happy ludum dare!

Hey there, ENP!

I’m in once again!

Hey everyone! This is my third LD (first time went pretty badly, second time was a Jam and went pretty well!).

It’s been quite a while since the last time I made a game so I’m looking forward to this LD! Getting a job as a programmer isn’t conductive to game programming in your free time… There’s only so much you can take! But this weekend I’m making an exception.

Tools:

Language: AS3

IDE: FlashDevelop

Libraries: Flixel

Graphics: No idea

Audio: FL Studio

I’ll no doubt need to do some AS3 and Flixel revision on Friday… But as I write this, Chingu (a Ruby game dev library) has caught my attention… Interesting… Let’s hope if I end up using it I don’t get screwed by the Ruby garbage collector. We’ll see.

I also want to try and get more involved in the community this time… More posts to come!

I’m TRYING to be in!

Sup gamedev’rs!
LUDUM DARE?! noooo...
This is hopefully going to be my 3rd Ludum Dare experience! I’m currently in college now so the odds of my friends distracting me to hang out are very high. But! My finals are over before Friday, my only for sure distraction will be seeing the Hobbit, which I’m okay with…..

Here’s the tools I plan on using.

  • Eclipse + Java!
  • Photoshop CS5
  • Garageband
  • Dropbox (to sync my project to use on multiple computers)

Why don’t you use some thing like github or bitbucket to sync your files? I use bitbucket whenever I need to sync files between computers. Plus you don’t have to later upload the source separately AND if you make a mistake you can go back to an earlier version of your code.

LD 25 theme voting round 3

Can I quantify how much I disapprove of the slogan appearing at the bottom of this post, “THE END IS THE BEGINNING?”  Think this will bias the polling results on this round much?  I call shenanigans.

image

And, here’s why I voted how I did for round 3:

Alter Ego: + Makes me think of superheroes, disguises, Jeckyl/Hyde, that sort of thing.  Good stuff.

Colorize: 0 Would be a cool game to have to change colors of things as a mechanic, but seems more like a mechanic than a theme.

Deception: + How do you deceive a computer?  Or how do you program a computer to deceive a person?  Most videogames are about direct conflict, so this would be a challenging theme to come up with a good idea for.

Invasion: 0 Like Outer Space, there are so many games with an invasion theme, that I don’t know how easy it would be to come up with something interesting, novel, or innovative.  I tend to prefer themes that encourage creativity, rather than familiar ideas that have been done a lot.

Mind Control: + I think it’d be cool to take over enemies’ minds and  use them against other enemies.

Night and Day: + The Day/Night cycles in Castlevania II and other games were pretty fun.

Old vs. New: – Meh.

Powerless: 0 This might be an interesting one, since most games are about being something very powerful.  But I don’t know what I’d do with this theme if it were chosen.

Reincarnation: – With Ghosts and Afterlife already out there, I didn’t feel like voting for yet another theme having to do with post-death.

Swarm: – I don’t want to make a game that has to deal with a ton of instances this time around.

The End is the Beginning: + I meant to click – but the subliminal message coming from the banner at the bottom of the post was too powerful.

Transformation: –

Not sure, from experience I can tell this usually results on that theme ranking really low

We often have theme related pictures inserted into the voting form. It’s done for humor, and it’s a bit of a tradition we have here.

Almost a polar opposite over here. I suppose I selfishly up voted for everything that gave me an instant vision of a game and down voted everything else. I never thought to choose a theme because it was difficult. I might even get a tiny bit of edge in the more difficult categories come to think of it.

You misread the theme. It´s COLONIZE, not COLORIZE .

LD25 – I’m In

It’s time for another LD! While I wanted to use LÖVE for LD25, I’ve been elbows-deep into GameMaker for a few weeks, so I will be sticking with that.

Tools:

  • Engine/IDE: GameMaker:Studio Pro+HTML5
  • Graphics: The Gimp, InkScape
  • Sound: BFXR
  • Music: Sunvox
  • Timelapse: Chronolapse

Coding Playlist includes: Clint Mansell, General Fuzz, Jack White (Raconteurs, The White Stripes, The Dead Weather, Third Man Records Library), The Black Keys, Asylum Street Spankers, Chet Atkins & Les Paul, Diablo Swing Orchestra, Glen Hansard, Miles Davis, Dave Brubeck, The National, Iggy Pop, as well as some game soundtracks (including: Bastion, Borderlands, Portal 1 & 2).

I’m in and got a few hints for beginners!

I’m here for my second LD, and I learnt a lot from my first.
So I got a few hints for other beginners:
1. Know your tools

Very important. You think you do? Then test it.

Take the time for a quick check, could have saved me a lot of time.

2. Don’t refactor (if not REALLY necessary)

This is what I call my biggest mistake in LD 24. I didn’t like my code, it was ok but not what I really wanted.

So I refactored – and lost about 15 hours.

Stay with your code if it’s possible, always remember: a prototype doesn’t need clean code.

3. Sleep

Another thing which I consider to be very important. I tried to do as much as possible with my time, I coded for 24 hours nonstop and failed miserably.

In the end the code is totally fucked up and your time is gone.

You’ll be tired as hell and start making mistakes. So take a nap, it really helps.

Back to the “I’m in!” part:

I’ll use:

Language: Java

Library: Slick2D

IDE: Eclipse

Sound: sfxr

Graphics: Gimp/Paint.net

Energy: Coffee and pizza (what else?)

My workstation didn’t change since last time (and is still/again messed up :o), so I’ll use the old screenshot:
Just my desktop

Alright Ludum Dare 25

Ready to go with the next Ludum Dare! I should have more than 8 hours this time.

Depending on what kind of game I decide to make I will be using Flixel or Stencyl for the game. The sound will be done with a webcam microphone and a guitar, and graphics will be made of pixels most likely.

Here’s hoping for a great theme and a great jam!

Most definitely in

Hiya all!  First timer here, but I am all in for the compo.  I have a bit of game dev experience and a lot of big dreams for the weekend, but at the very least I hope to give the veterans a burst of nostalgia for when they were as naive as me. 😀

I will be working with HTML5.  Not entirely sure which libraries I will employ; I probably won’t get around to framework shopping until Thursday.

IDEs: Aptana Studio, Sublime Text 2

Audio: LMMS, Audacity, sfxr

Graphics: GIMP, Paint.NET

Misc tools: Git, Processing, blended coffee+horchata

I’m in!

Never done a Ludum Dare before – but in for a penny, in for a pound – so I’m going for the compo (rather than the jam).

Tools:

  • Code: CoffeeScript
  • Library[s]: CreateJS
  • Graphics: The GNU Image Manipulation Program, Inkscape
  • Music: KORG DS-10 (run on a Nintendo DS, recorded via line in)
  • Sound: BFXR, KORG DS-10, mircophone

I’m in like Flynn

They say 3rd times a charm, well I’m going to put this to the test with my 3rd entry into the Ludum Dare! I will be employing my usual tools, the very flexible and immensely versatile Fixel framework. I may pull out the big guns and utilize the destructive power of Photonstorm’s fiendish creation, The Fixel Power Tools! All artwork with be created using the all-powerful, awe-inspiring Photoshop CS6! For sound and music I will be using several diabolic programs, Sfxr, Bfxr, Audacity, and Drumcircle. And last but not least all code will be done in the gut-wrenching, thirst-quenching, heavy-lifting Flash Builder!!

So just to summerize…

>>Code: Flash
>>Framework: Flixel with possible Fixel Power Tools
>>Graphics: Photoshop CS6
>>Sound/Music: Sfxr, Bfxr, Audacity and Drumcircle
>>IDE: Flash Builder

GOOD LUCK TO ALL WHO ENTER!!

I’m back for some game designing.

For those very few people, if any at all, who remember my game, the one with the carrots and the shield and the insane difficulty(I had to use Flashpunk’s debugger to even test run it), I’m back. This time, I’ll try to go easy on you guys and add some more content. I guess last time was a good experience, as your feedback did help.

So here is my loadout, almost the same as last time:

IDE: FlashDevelop.
Library: Flashpunk.
Art: GIMP, maybe inkskape, Krita or Blender.
OS: Windows or if I can set it up, Kubuntu.
Music: LMMS
Sounds: SFXR

I wish everyone a good time both making and playing, because that’s really all it’s about. You know, since you don’t really win anything. Except maybe fame I suppose.

Here we go again

Time flies! Seems like last LD was 1 month ago… But as the last time, I’m in!
My choice of platform and coding will depends on the theme, but I think it will be:

Code: ActionScript 3
Library: Flixel
IDE: Flash Develop
GFX: Photoshop CS5

or

Code: Javascript
Library + IDE: Unity3D
GFX: Blender (I suck at modeling)

for either options:
Music: FL Studio (saving me from low overall ratings because of poor gfx since LD23 haha)
SFX: sfxr

You can play my last 2 LD entrees
LD23: http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-23/?action=preview&uid=11711 (Fun 36 and Audio 42!)
LD24: http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-24/?action=preview&uid=11711 (better than the first IMO, but the max score was Humor 99 :P)

About the theme… I wish Parallel Worlds win. I’ve been upvoting it since LD23 and I think the competition would develop great games. Props for Round 3 Batman subliminar messages.

I hope you will have a great time, because I’ll have for sure!

I’m in

I should mention that I am in.    Tools:  As3, FlashDevelop, Gimp, and my Atari 2600 sound chip emulator located at:   http://danmckinnon.net/downloads/tia_sound.zip  If I do anything server-related it will be PHP w/ MySQL.  I almost forgot.   I may use Flod for music.  Cheers.

Missing this one

Unfortuantely, I am unable to take part in LD 25. But, over the last couple days I’ve been playing around and have managed to finish 1 game, and have another one on the go. Both are dead simple and fun. Just keeping up the habit for LD 26 :)

I’m in for my 2nd Ludum Dare!

I will be a part of Ludum Dare 25.

I enjoyed my first Ludum Dare earlier this year.

I will(most likely) be using:

Engine-Stencyl

Graphics-GIMP

Music-MuseScore

Sound Effects-Sound Recorder+Microphone

Good luck,

Nilmrots

Good Luck! I’ll be using stencyl too!

I forgot to say… Of course I’m in!

This will be my fourth Ludum Dare. It’s going to be great. I’ve finished my game the last two times. My first LD was this time last year in which I had no clue what I was doing and failed miserably. After that, April and August were great times for me. I expect this one to be just as awesome.

My game will probably be in 2.5D, depending on the theme. It’s easier to make a quick game that way. Also, simplicity is always best to meet the 48 hour deadline! But that doesn’t mean the games can’t seem complex!

Tools

Unity

Anim8or, LithUnwrap

PhotoShop, PhotoFiltre

sfxr

Whatever I can come up with for music.. maybe my game won’t even need music, depending on the final theme.

OneRepublic, Relient K, Taylor Swift, Rush, and U2 will power my motivation throughout the weekend.

Have a great time, everyone! And remember, never give up if you can help it at all!

I’m… potentially in?

Hey everyone,

I’ve got a lot on my plate this weekend but I’m going to try and get SOMETHING submitted. The last LD I entered was LD21, so it’s been a while for me.

Whatever I end up doing will be 2D and done in Flashpunk, as any time I DO get should be spent prototyping, not learning a new engine. 😉

Good luck, everyone!

In For Number Two (Hopefully)

Almost put a semicolon after that parenthesis…

Anyway, I’m feeling much more prepared for this one than the last one.  I don’t plan on using Flash either.

Coding: Java/Eclipse

Coding Backup:   AS3/Flash Develop

Graphics:  Photoshop/Illustrator

Music:  Java Integrated MIDI/LMMS

SFX:  BFXR

The music should be fun this time, I’ve been playing with MIDI in java, so if the theme suits it, that could be a thing.  I plan on making a more scalable game than last time too, because that was fun.

Oh ya, finals are the Wednesday, Thursday, Friday after ludum, so that could get in the way too.

Good luck and have fun everybody.
