LD25 December 14–17, 2012

i guess am “IN”

Hi everyone , i guess am in that one. For the game tools i have different setups, it will be decided when i choose the idea after i know the theme. But at all my setup will be:

Shiva3d or Flare3d or Unity3d for programming, and PS for 2d stuff and  Live8 for the music (in case i have time to make my own music) or i’ll use a free soundtrack and refere it to it’s own owner :)

and this is my Windows workspace , i’ll not use mac this time:

good luck for everyone

Greetings methozoid!

I’m in

I’m in for LD25, whih is my second one.

  • Language: C++ or PureBasic
  • IDE: VS2012 or built-in
  • Libraries: SFML for C++
  • Tools: Paint.NET, sfxr, LMMS

Also, a fun fact: The theme voting I just submitted is unintentionally horizontally (or vertically, depending on how you see it) symmetric:

I’m In

I probably can’t make anything playable within 48 hours, but it wont hurt to try right?

Hey there!

LD25 – I’m In

Okay, so this will be the first Ludum Dare that i’ll have entered with RSI. I’ve entered 5 times, with 3 successful entries, but this time will be harder. I’ll have to take a lot of breaks so I don’t end up injuring myself, but I’ve never felt so adamant about making a game for a LONG time.

I’ve used C++ and HGE in the past for all entries, but I think i’ll switch it up a bit. I’ll be using MOAI so that I can code in a familiar language (Lua), as well as having some cross-platform capability.

Here’s to a successful weekend!

I AM POOOOOOSTING!!!

and then I’m gonna go eat some oatmeal and cry at www.thenicestplaceontheinter.net

Intent

Here we go again! this time I’m going to go with my more standard toolset rather then trying to experiment with something new for LD.

Language: C++
IDE: VS2012 ( http://www.microsoft.com/ )
Framework: OpenGL/SDL ( http://www.libsdl.org/ )
Pixels: Allegro sprite editor ( http://www.aseprite.org/ )
Shapes: Blender ( http://www.blender.org/ )
Food: Grubhub ( http://www.grubhub.com/ )
Beer: Not sure yet, will keep you guys informed though!

Post-mortem (…what???)

I’ve participated in Hack-a-Jam (and submitted the game for the warmup). It was an experience similar to LD: 48 hours to make a game. And I feel like I’m completely prepared to LD! Here is a post-mortem:

What went right:

  1. Idea. IMHO it was great (thought not very original) and it was just for the 48 hours.
  2. Graphics. I was able to use NO graphic editors! Ta-da! Instead I made graphics with a built-in semi-graphic editor. Sounds like a plan for LD!~
  3. Music. Boom-tss-boom-tss-boomboomboomboomboom-tss! Boom-tss-boom-tss-boomboomboomboomboom-tss!

What went wrong:

  1. Time. I was able to make only 4 levels by the deadline, and there were bugs and missing features (mostly interface-related).
  2. Timelapse. For some reason Chronolapse didn’t make a timelapse (after several hours of making). Even the one I just downloaded.

What I learned:

  1. Saving and loading data.
  2. Using the built-it graphic editor. It’s a great choice for graphics (for a not-artist like me).

the “Built-in graphic editor” you are talking about is the Game Maker one?

I’m back, and this time I’m not alone

This will be my second Ludum Dare competition. Last time I didn’t end up submitting because I got so caught up in a couple of details I ran out of time. This time will be different, and I will have some help for that.

I’ve gotten 3 friends to participate too and we will be working in 2-man teams to create 2 different games. Here is our tech set so far:

  • Language: Python
  • IDE: PyCharm
  • Graphics/Control Engine: PyGame
  • Graphics: Paint.NET
  • Audio: <Still looking>
  • Food: Whatever will deliver to us in the Chicago Loop on a weekend

Look forward to seeing our setup and food choices throughout the competition. Good luck everyone!

Getting ready for 1st LD

Getting ready for my first LD next week! I’m going to be using HTML5 stuff, I’d love to actually make a native x-plat app but I haven’t had enough time to look beyond native Mac OS X dev and I need the audience…

See my amazing warmup game: Infinite Pong that is, well, Pong but with cfxr sounds and psychedelic colours! Everyone has to make Pong once in their lives.

To try multiple new things out at once and thus increase the points of failure (to keep things interesting) I’ll be live-streaming whenever I’m busy via my twitch channel.

Hi Folis,

Hehe

I just noticed this tweet: ”Unfortunately going to miss out on @ludumdare #ld48 since I will be on my honeymoon this weekend D:” Ludum Dare: Making people regret going on honeymoons since 2002. 11

Hosting

Hey,

Last time I took part I was fortunate to have my own hosting space so I put my game on my website. Unfortunately I no longer have this space so Im wondering where to host now, kongregate and newgrounds are the only two that spring to mind, im not keen on kongregate, also im developing in unity so im not sure newgrounds hosts that type.

My question is where, in your opinion, is a good place to host with regards to this competition?

Cheers

Rob

I’ve seen people using Dropbox to host html5 games, I am not sure it would work with Unity.

If your game get’s popular Dropbox won’t cut it. It has some limits on the amount of data served, remember that a few games had problem with this last time. Just so you know.

Getting an HTML5 game engine spruced up

I’ve been working on an open source orthogonal tile engine that uses Cocos2D HTML5 over the last couple months. I still need to add basic physics and a couple of other things. Hopefully I can get that done by Friday night!

Please let me know if you use the engine for anything or have any feedback on it. It is still a work in progress, so keep that in mind!

First LD – here I come!

So here we are my fellow game enthusiasts!

I participate for the first time in Ludum Dare, but got a bit experience at the last two Global Game Jams. I will meet up with two friends of mine here in Germany (Düsseldorf) and code the heck out of my machine. Well I have the feeling I will be the graphics-guy.
Some things I learned from the Global Game Jams:

  • Plan your game carefully – then cut half of the planned features out.
  • Define goals for the players. Our first game was nice and shiny, but there was nothing you could really do to “win” the game.
  • Don’t eat too much. You will feel sleepy and uncomfortable afterwards. But drink a LOT!
  • Last but not least: It’s not about the result. Game Jams are made for the experience you have during the event.

I am excited as hell though there are still 4.5 days left. And that’s fantastic!
So then… let the game creation begin! 😀

Hi there, welcome to LD!
10. Dec 2012 · 18:31 UTC
Thanks!

Of course I already read them. 😉

My first Ludum Dare

Hi,

I was listening for RugueLike radio about game jams and decided to try it out myself!

I have done small games jams before… but it was long time ago.. and not true. (I was doing it alone… in the basement…)

Some of my previous game jams.

BallDrop prototype v0.000001

Tank – tree destroyer (EXE, flash player 7 projector)

MouseRPG v0.00002

Tools:

  • Language: ActionScript 3
  • IDE: FlashDevelop
  • Libraries : mvcExpress
  • Graphics: programmers art! (red, blue boxes and circles!)
  • Audio: fatal error… null pointer reference.
  • Food: Whatever my wife will put in front of me…
My goals:
  • try Ludum dare.
  • try mvcExpress in prototyping/rush programming.
  • try to convince my wife to put something edible in front of me… (this might be challenging…)
  • try to convince my kids not to climb on me while I am jamming… (this might be impossible…)

Good luck everyone!

Roguelike radio is what convinced me to try this out as well :)

This time I’m going to finish

my past three have been failures! not enough time, I made them too complicated and in the end they were lazy slops of mess.  This time I’ll be sure to have a full packaged game, by  slimming it down, using simpler art, and of course my programming skills have improved since then so hopefully I’m more prepared.

Programming: FlashDevelop + AS3 + Flashpunk library

Art: GIMP + Flash CS5 if I’m feeling vector

Sound: SFXR is the usual tool.  inudge sounds good for a musically-handicapped person like me

Hi TehWut!

Another try – I’m in.

Hello.

Its another LD weekend, another time, this time I am planning on finishing something 😀 It has been fun over the year. I have tried to do all the LDs this year, but something always happen unexpectedly, but this time I hope not. Ill be coding actionscript 3 in flashdevelop using FlashPunk or Away3D engine depending on theme. “Astonishing” graphics provided by Paint.NET. You can watch me struggle on http://twitch.tv/drraylv

Good luck, everyone. See you soon.
