LD25 December 14–17, 2012

I’m In !

This will be my first Ludum Dare ! I don’t expect to win, I just want participate, I’m a beginner in game development.

I think Ludum Dare is a good way to start making little games. And I think my game will be horrible and unplayable but that will be funny ! :)

Language: C, using SDL (+ SDL_Image) + FMOD for audio.

IDE: Code::Blocks

Graphics: GIMP

Sounds / Music: Maybe SFXR, Audacity and my Keyboard 😀

Im In!

First Lundum Dare!

I started coding this year around January and I am using  LWJGL  as well as  slick2D

Laungages: Java, HTML, JavaScript, CSS, Bit of C++!

I do not expect to win: I just want to take part 😀

My first Ludum Dare

This is my first Ludum Dare and I’m super excited about it. Its actually the first time I’ve entered a game jam of any kind (although I’ll be entering the competition element).

Here’s what I’m using…

Framework: Moai
Sound Effects: sfxr
Music: ? (to be decided)
Art: Inkscape
Other tools (Depending on the theme and game design): Glyph DesignerParticle DesignerTexture Packer

I’m also planning on liveblogging my experience on my website here.

Good luck everyone.

I’m in + IconTool

Hello fellow Ludum-Darees!

As usual, I hereby announce my participation in the next Ludum Dare!

My tools haven’t changed, so if you want to know them, just take a look at my previous posts!

Shameless advertising ahead ^^

Also, check out this handy tool I’ve written: IconTool
Ever wanted to create an icon for your game, but failed at finding a good freeware tool? Or are you just looking for a simple way to create icons with multiple resolutions?
IconTool has exactly what you want: No unneccesary functions, just specify the input PNGs and click “Save” to create an *.ico file out of them!
Oh, and if you use it, could you credit me please? Thanks! :)

god they seem to come round fast now heh..

ive not been programming since the last one so i mite need to do a warm up

I’m in!

Hello!
I’m Huchickut and I’m in!
I will be using Eclipse with Java and Paint.NET for graphics.
GL HF to everybody!

I’m in! First timer here.

This is my first Ludum Dare and I’m gonna be participating in the Game Jam. I will be using the XNA Framework and a game library I’ve been working on that handles input and other basic functions.

I’m in!

So, I have figured out my windows 8 problems, and will be using vista for coding. YAY 😐

I will be using the following things:

Coding: Visual C# 2010 express w/ XNA 4.0 Edit: I will use Visual Studio 2010 Professional 90-day Trial 😀

Graphics: Paint.NET

Sound Effects: sfxr

Music: Probably Fruity Loops

I will be making a library right now that will handle basic input and output, If I have time I will make it gamepad compatible.

Enough with the talking, time for coding!!

frog.recurse(frog);

Yeah, Froggy’s going to recurse once again.

I’m in! (Prep time go!)

It looks like I am going to end up making a game instead of studying for finals!

This is my second LD, and hopefully the first one that I actually complete. With the help of “The Game Jam Survival Guide”, written by Christer Kaitila (http://www.amazon.com/The-Game-Survival-Guide-ebook/dp/B007R0NTF4), I have been mentally preparing myself. I just finished testing all of the programs I plan on using to make this game, and even practiced with the actual release (which is what gave me the most trouble last time). I FEEL READY!

Today begins engine coding period of the competition. I am hoping to have simple platformer, shooter, and puzzle engines done by the time the competition starts. Wish me luck!

Programming specs:

Coding: Game Maker Studio Pro

Graphics: Gimp

Sound Effects: sfxr

Release: Dropbox

Inspiration: Pandora (I Fight Dragons Radio)

Lets get kicking!

good luck, I will be using GM:S

I’m in (end of the world edition)

I’m in.

Will use either processing (again), unity, or haxe (with haxeflixel) it depends on the theme and my mood, and my willingness to update everything to their latest versions.

For everything else gimp, audacity+microphone, lms, aseprite, aviary music creator, blender may be used unless I find new better toys.

I’ll be participating in Ludum Dare #25 Jam

I’ll be participating in the Ludum Dare game jam next weekend.  I’ll be using my usual assortment of tools along with a few new ones:

Hardware: Macbook Pro, Wacom Tablet, iPad with a Pogo Connect

Game Engine, Languages, & Tools:  C# using Unity 3D Pro 3.5, MonoDevelop IDE, and MattRix’s Futile framework.

Graphics & Art: Corel Painter 10, Photoshop CS5, Sketch 2, Blender 2.6, Procreate iPad

Music & Audio: sfxr, GarageBand, Nanostudio on iPad

I’ll be using my good old tool belt

I’ve been making games for the web for the last 10 years or so. Lately, I’ve been playing around with Objective-C/Cocos2d, OpenGL, C#/MonoGame and C++ but I’ve never finished a game with these technologies. Therefore, I got the idea that I’d use Ludum Dare as an excuse to build something non-web.

However, the closer we get the more I’m sure I’ll just fallback to my good old tool belt that I’ve been using for years: HTML and Javascript.

I’ve realised, I’d rather spend my Ludum Dare time actually designing rather than learning various practical things, like how to load sounds in MonoGame. I want to focus on creativity and that’s best accomplished by using tools I know.

Besides, it’s my first time entering a game jam/competition so I really don’t want to make the challenge harder than necessary.

What about you? Are you playing it safe in terms of tech choice or are you challenging yourself with new tools?

You can user familiar tools and still challenge yourself, just need to push the boundaries a bit. That said, I’m almost certainly going to do HTML/JS this time as well.

I think there’s a point at which you are certainly competent to make a game in a new-ish toolset, and that it’s a good test to see if you can do it. For example, my preferred tools for getting something out quickly would be something like Unity or Flash, but in LD23 I used Java, and nothing more than an Android tablet to make an entire game, graphics, sound, and all. I had *never* attempted anything of that scale on my Transformer, and had no idea if it would even work… but it did.

In!

Well it’s been awhile since my last attempt at LD but here we go!

Windows 7

Actionscript 3 with Flashpunk

Sfxr and perhaps LMMS

… and hopefully a good idea!

Bastiandantilus is in

Last time I entered I used Stencyl and it ended up feeling like a bit of a cheat. This time I think I’ll be using HTML5/JS.

Unless someone has a good suggestion for a JS game library that actually makes things easier instead of just more confusing, I’ll probably go vanilla.

I’m in, sort of

I think I’m going to try out a super hardcore mode of the ludum dare 48h compo … by only using about 6 hours of it to make my whole entry.

this is due to the fact that my girlfriend is coming home from her semester abroad and seeing her again after 4 months outranks ludum dare (double checked it to be sure 😉 )

so 6 hours are about everything I have until I have to leave for the airport – but I won’t back out of ludum dare because of it, no, I’ll work even more efficiently!

because of this:

  • 2D game, since the graphics take much less time to make
  • low resolution (same reason)
  • possibly only a 1-bit game (trimming down the graphics work even more)
  • all sound and music will be generated by sfxr and some music generator (like autotracker-c)
  • I’ll use a framework I’m very comfortable and experienced with -> flashpunk
  • I’ll concentrate on core game play features and make something fun instead of a game depending on lots of content
  • no time for anything but furious game development
  • possibly no time to eat during the 6 hours – every minute must be spent developing!
  • I’ll try to upload the game before I leave – most possibly making my game the very first to be submitted 😛

I hope I’ll be able to come up with an idea immediately so I can complete the core game features within the first 3 hours. after that I’m going to make/polish the graphics for about an hour and finish the game in an epic 2 hour showdown – I expect high amounts of caffeine in my blood stream to help me with this.

maybe it’s impossible to make something like a game within 6 hours (completely from scratch and alone) but maybe it’s not – I’ll find out 😀

/edit:

it seem’s I won’t be able to take part after all …

well, there’s always a next time – I’m just hoping the theme isn’t going to be ‘time loop’ since I’d hate myself for not being able to take part with that theme

I liked Asylum a lot when I played it last year, so I’m looking forward to seeing what you pull out in such a slim window of time.

It is possible to do it in 6 hours. I’ve made a full game in 150 minutes. It’s not exactly mind blowing, but many people found it a fun game, even more considering it was developed so quickly.

I’m (Probably) in!

(Hopefully) Signing up for my 3rd Ludum Dare.

Not sure what stack I might use, Likely either:

Flash/Flashdevelop or C#/XNA/Visual studio

With Paint.Net, Audacity, Bfxr, Musagi, Notepad++

I’m in!

I’ve never participated in Ludum Dare before, and am very excited to be participating this time ’round.  I recently participated in a jam over at gamejolt.com that was awesome and made me want to do more, so after a 2 weekend break from game jamming, it’s time to hop back in the saddle! I don’t think I’ll be doing the jam, though (however, if time doesn’t permit then sure, jam, why not).

I’m going to be working on Windows 7 with Monogame (XNA) for programming purposes, using paint.net for art and sfxr for sounds, and if I choose to do a game in need of a level editor I’ll be using Matt Thorston’s wonderful OGMO Editor.

Get ready! 3rd time!

Yip this is my third time, hope a great theme wins!

I’ll be using Game maker lite and most likely SFXR.

Unfortunately I will be missing for 8 hours or so but hopefully it wont be too much of a hindrance!

I’m probably in.

So… This will be my first LD.

I surely would not have much time to make a game (HTML5+JS) but… I’ll try. And this the main.
