Ludum Dare 52 January 6–9, 2023

The finish line!

Stoked! We've never had so much time left at this point of progress. It's scary. As always, we scope-creeped the hell out of the idea; but we actually ended up getting almost everything in.
Biggest barrier is going to be polish and balance now.

Anybody with GameMaker experience I can message when my coder has to work? I'm scared haha

Red Storm Harvest is live

Finished! Unfortunately in build I get 30fps vs 100+ in the editor... Made use of lots of assets in my library, so it looks half decent.

Good luck to those still fighting. See you in September :).RSH1.PNGRSH4.PNG

Play Scythe!

Play my silly little game about using your scythe to harvest corn crops and at the same time avoid a haunted scarecrow! What a hoot! https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/52/scythe

First compo in a while!

I normally use some kind of existing engine to make a game for a jam, but this time for some reason I decided it would be brilliant to make everything except the renderer from scratch. Did I mention I've barely used javascript before? Phew. I learned a lot doing this and tried some stuff I've wanted to do for a while, mainly terrain generation and tileset stored in a quadtree to speed up physics and rendering queries. Unfortunately these basic systems took up a lot of my first day's time, but now I have a system I can reuse for future jams!

It's also submitted in its p5.js ide so you can update the code and try changing stuff yourself and just hit play.

I didn't have much time for audio but for the music I made an AdLib/DOS inspired ambient tune.

The game itself is kind of simple:

-Survive waves of enemies -Till ground, plant seeds, wait one enemy wave to see them grow to up to 2 levels -Harvest the resulting bushes to get health upgrades, jetpack fuel and wood you can use to build reinforced walls

Kill the enemies, which will drop seeds you can use to plant bushes. Ultimately it's a gamble between harvesting bushes now or on the next turn. You also need to kite the enemies to a place you can easily collect their dropped seeds, but the enemies also damage ground so you have to make sure they don't come too close to your bushes. When bushes are harvested or destroyed, they destroy terrain below them, which means you can't keep farming the same locations.

Because I implemented an (ostensibly) efficient quadtree, the game world is actually quite huge and different each game.

I had fun this weekend doing this little game, I wish a lot of things were more polished (especially character movement and the memory leak in the audio engine that I couldn't fix) but I'm glad I was able to get it over the finish line!

Try Soullector, a rogue-like exploration game!

You are Tesor, the collector of souls of the Sorio tribe. Escape from the dungeon where you are a prisoner and collect the 40 souls from enemies and bosses!

This time I wanted to do something other than platforms, I'd have loved to put more powerups, shoots, and enemies but I've spent more time designing the level, I think that in 48 hours it hasn't been bad!

A video shows more than a thousand words !

Gameplay

Mow down as much crops as you can within the 2minute time limit. But beware... Your trusty tractor can get overloaded, so you need to figure out how to get back to the silo's and unload before it explodes.

Get ready to harvest some tuna soon!

Our upcoming game will be a peaceful fishing simulator in the archipelago of Nekotuna. Just don't fish the tuna to extinction...!

I think we are kinda cursed

Alright, we are making a game where a demonic entity has infested a cafe with its rot, and is emotionally manipulating the customers to harvest their minds. You'll be seeding these characters with certain deadly emotional states depending on the personality tags given to the character you are targeting. You will 'water' these unstable states to drive them towards insanity—which shifts their plane of conciousness and then you're able to reap them.

You're doing this while trying not to be noticed by the cough priest who is there for some reason.....yeah we over-scoped. God bless us...oh no..ezgif-1-5f3f732b5c.gif
