According to the first feedbacks, my game is really fun and making people jump out of their chair.

I like to scare people.

What an amazing theme!

I have to admit that I didn't vote for Harvest, but it turned out that it was far more creative than I first thought. There were not only farming simulators, but also soul farming simulators, and other really unique games. If you have any Web games, feel free to post them under this post, and I'll play and rate them.

Almost time

The wild weekend is finishing up, Its just me the rest of my team has had their laptop destroyed or had to bow out due to physical injury(unrelated to the dare... as far as I can tell).

I think I had initially scoped this out to be a 3-4 person project and as life took people away I should have reeled in the scope but I'm happy with it. This is my second Jam and I think its been really good for helping me to get an idea of how much work I can get done in an hour or a weekend. In my head it always seems to be much more than the reality.

I wanted to spend more time making a funny atmosphere but I ended up spending WAY to long on this stupid video.... that I kinda hate.. ●_●

But I do like the news ticker ^̮ ̮^

I didn't make a full game, but I made a post-mortem!

While the compo did not turn out too well, I have made a writeup expaining what went right, and what went wrong. It is available on the game's itch, on this very link:

https://vectrex28.itch.io/clouds-n-crows/devlog/473950/clouds-n-crows-a-post-mortem

I'll stick around and play some of your games, but other than that see you in LD 53!

Hope I didn't break the rule...

I modified the html5 version after the due, for a capital letter in the file path causing audio effects except bgm not working...

😅😅😅😅😅

I didn't delete the old version. Hope it's okay to fix the darn capital letter.

Those 48 hours were amazing!

Hello there! This has been my second Ludum Dare, and much like last time, I went way, way too far when it comes to planning. In the first few hours and in my naive mind, I set the bar sky high, thinking I would be able to include all kinds of stuff within the time limit. I would soon realise that I had my work cut out for me, to say the least, but a good mix of copium and hopium led me down a very stressful, yet at the same time rewarding and enjoyable experience.

So, what was the plan? Well I wanted the game to be about the life of a red fox. Put simply, this meant running around, looking for food, and avoiding humans and predators. The setting would be a forrest next to a small farm, one humand and several chickens included. The goal, other than to simply survive, would be to stock up (or harvest, if you will) food, bringing it back to your den to eat at a later time. I like low poly 3D games, so that was the plan.

Concept.png (Really wish I got it looking something like this in the end...)

What went wrong? So I've played around in Blender before, sure, but I've done little to no character work, let alone animals. I'm all kinds of happy with both the fox and the chicken, (especially the eating animation), but it took a lot of time. A lot... Still, even though I spent far too long playing around with animating the fox (many of the animations I didn't end up having time to implement, very sad), and even though it was at the cost of cutting gameplay elements, and, well, many other things, I learned an actual metric ton of things about models and animation, both in Blender and in Unity. Worth it!

All in all, I didn't end up with the final product I set out to make, but, if nothing else, I'm very happy with the fox model. Looking forward to checking out what others have made, and looking forward to LD53!

Everyone submitting is a *liar*

How can you honestly check the box if the rules link doesn't work!

LD52 - TanksGiving

And that's a wrap! My second ever LD entry is done - this time as a duo collaboration in the Jam category, with the impeccable @Zonoxx.

We finished yesterday, in about exactly 48 hours, as both of us are too busy on the last day to continue, but I am very happy with what we ended up with. The most important goal for us was: make something that's at all playable. Well, playable it is, and I like how the core components are all there: A nice gameplay loop, a score to chase, a fail-state, sound, bearable art, a little intro menu - feels pretty complete to me, especially compared to my Compo entry in 2021!

Even more importantly, we had a lot of fun doing it and we learned a lot. I for example, relearned everything I knew before about Unity once more, because I couldn't remember anything from last time. But also the experience of working on a game collaboratively was new to both of us and taught us some valuable lessons - some of them earned in frustration, but those are the most important ones, aren't they? ;)

When scoping out the concept on Friday, we actually had quite a few additional game mechanics planned that didn't make it in due to a lack of time. A rookie mistake, you could say, however, as our main game loop was still solid enough, these were always just meant to be nice-to-have upgrades and could be left out if needed. I really liked this approach and will definitely try to go about it the same way in future game jams.

There is, of course, some stuff that could be better, some of it more on the technical side of things: more keyboard-layout-agnostic controls and a lower resolution in the Web player allowing smaller screens to enjoy the game as well. We might add this in later (as I think this is still in the confines of the rules?), but at least it's not game-breaking for a good portion of players.

Anyway, we'd love for you to try out our little game! The wheat fields shine golden and are ready for the harvest. Will you help Old Mc'Onion bring it in? Just watch out for the turkey squadrons circling the skies...

Last straight

Hey everyone,

We're in the final stretch of Ludum Dare 52 and it's been an intense but incredibly rewarding experience. We've been hard at work creating a game that we think really captures the spirit of the theme.

LD52_001.gif

We're almost done with development and are just tying up a few loose ends. We can't wait to share our game with you and see what you think.

Thank you for following our progress and for your support. We're looking forward to the final reveal and hope you'll join us in playing and rating all of the amazing games that have been created during this Ludum Dare.

Thanks again and stay tuned for the big reveal!

More easy to install and play!

There are plenty of dangers out there, so you'd better be careful!

Not Quite According to Plan

Okay, so I may have overscoped a tad... I'm a bit worried that I won't have enough time to finish this game, but at the very least it will be a fun little prototype. Sound and Music are two of the most important things to me, and they're both completely absent as of right now 🥲

Looks like I've got a long day ahead of me...
