Frantic Farming

Frantic Farming is a fast paced farming game where the player must plant, grow and harvest crops. By harvesting crops, the player gains money which can be spent on extra seeds and supplies.

The player must keep their crops sufficiently watered and stop disease outbreaks before they can spread, by using their specialized farming cannon that can spray both water and “plague-away”.

Temple Plunder

Finally finished my game for the 72 hour jam – Temple Plunder

Last time I took part I did a first person game, so this time I wanted to try and make a character and have a 3rd person / top down game. It ended up taking me nearly the whole day just to get the character done as I had to remind myself how to rig and animate, I guess it was a good way to remember but I feel my game was a bit too ambitious, even though I did get it finished.

The aim of the game is to get as much loot as possible within the time limit of 5 minutes. As you pick up loot your bag gets heavier, so you have to keep making trips back to the cart. So you want to plan the best way to get the loot, and which loot to get first (get the heavy loot on the way back). There are traps of course, its a game with a temple what do you expect?

Its a pretty simple game, and nothing original. I think it was way too big a project for me alone, as I only just managed to finish in for the 72 jam and missed out on some final polish. I am happy with how it turned out though, as I did the character first and was really behind on the mechanics, and was starting to think I wouldnt even have a game, just a poorly animated character.

Things I could add if I took this further:

  • Enemies (living statues)
  • Combat – being able to throw the bag to stun enemies / other tools
  • More traps / levers for timed doors
  • Power ups / upgrade (bigger bag, faster movement)
  • some kind of mining element
  • more character animations (there was 2 I was lazy)
  • add actual textures instead of flat colours (even though they did work quite well)
  • add more loot
  • Maybe add a story element
  • different temples / tombs / dungeons

Things to do / things I have learned for the next ludum dare:

  • Learn how to make my own music
  • make a much small / polished game
  • try to stay away from characters (or get better at doing them)
  • maybe find some people to group up with
  • plan better
  • get the mechanics working first to make sure the game is fun
  • learn how to do vfx / make the game look more pretty with fancy stuff
  • Actually make a title / logo instead of using just text
  • Think of a game name that isn’t generic

I would really appreciate some feedback on my game – I can take harsh criticism, so go nuts.

‘Goods for the Motherland’ is a 3D game inspired by “Papers please” that involves the player inspecting trucks as they enter the beloved motherland. The player must examine information from the provided documents and cross-reference it to the information available from the truck, which includes aspects such as weight, country of origin and cargo size. The player receives payment for every correct response and must use their earnings to pay for tax, rent, food and vodka so they can survive another day.

The game features a tutorial on the menu screen, to provide the player with visual reference of important objects. Controls are as follows:

WASD – Movement
Left click – Call truck (when used at console) & open rear truck doors (when behind the truck)
Q – Allow truck to pass (when used at console)
E – Reject truck (when used at console)

We would greatly appreciate any feedback you guys have about our game, especially whether or not you enjoyed playing it.

also link any youtube videos if you record playthroughs!

Cheers,

[Jam} Operation Garden Storm

Hi, We took part in the Jam with a team of two for this LD Our game is Operation Garden Storm, which is a top down shooter where you play as a small gnome character and have to reach the creator to save your village, there are beetle enemies on the way which you have to kill / avoid.

gamess1.jpg

What went well----------

Well we finished the game which I didn't think we would at one point Our theme idea was fun, I haven't seen many games with a similar looking idea I was happy with how the beetle enemies turned out probably the most polished looking asset in our game We learned a lot of new things and had fun!

What could have gone better--------------

Well the game was way too big... Which is ironic and the theme was small world. I never seem to learn and cant stop making games which are too big for a weekend Wish I had spent more time on the character animation, I had to refresh my memory on both maya and animating, and the animation turned out pretty bad for the player. The game was pretty bland and basic, we should have focused more on an original mechanic The soundtrack was poor, but I spent 30 mins on it and have never done sound, so I wish I had the time to focus on that more. Plan the map better

Overall im happy we finished the game, as I ran into so many problems with the AI, Its probably the worst of our games mechanically, but I learned a lot about AI, optimization, and rigging / animating and had fun.

Havent got a name, thinking Fishermans Heart

Quite alot of fishing games, combined fishing and bullet hell type genre. Haven't had the chance to do any art yet. really want to but Im alone so gotta do that gameplay first!

Finished my character

fishermanss.JPG

I decided to give my character a hookshot fishing arm, as it will be easier to animate than a rod. Also the way that you shoot out your hook in my game kind of suits it.

Havent done a character in ages and this guy was really fun to make

here are my crappy 5 min concepts. enemy next. Going with a dark gritty but painted theme. Hope to get rain for my scene eventually

Finished

Finally finished, not long to spare.

Pretty happy with how it turned out, Feel like I could have added so much to this game so would be great to see what I could do with more time!

Nice comparison between the pre-art and post-art phase

part1.jpg part2.jpg

sss.png ss222.png

was really fun to make, wanted to a different art style this time, instead of just flat colours. Happy with how the character and enemy turned out. I had to use some old textures of mine as I was running out of time. But they suit the style.

Will start rating other peoples games tomorrow, going to sleep now...

Please play my game and give feedback!

Also does anyone know how to embed the HTML game on the page? Thanks

Congrats to everyone that finished, also those who didn't I know it sucks when you cant finish something. At least you can learn from what you did wrong and finish next time!

Time to rate some games!

Ready to play some games after work!

I fixed a bug in my game where I had forgot collision on the edges of the platform.. oops

Mad Max / Dune inspired Game

Got the main mechanics of my game sorted, its a mad max / Dune inspired game, in a dystopia where there is one sought after resource. its an oil but its used for ammo, fuel, food, health, and money. This game takes place in an arena where the wealthy oil dukes watch the less fortunate fight in a battle royale. the one who saves up the most oil to buy their way out wins

Finished my game :) - LUNATIC LUKE

I finally finished my game. Pretty happy with the mechanics, had to do a simple art style in the end due to time and burnout.

but most importantly, had fun and learned a lot!

Inspired by Mad Max and Dune, an arcade style battle arena game in which you drive a buggy around an arena and destroy enemy buggys to get their resource.

I tied this to the theme through the game play and narrative

Through the gameplay there is one resource called “Juuce” that is used for everything in the game, including health, fuel, ammo, and is a drug used in powerups. So your life is your currency.

Through the narrative, which I didn’t fully put in due to time, the idea is you either die in the arena or buy your way out. So people would be placing bets on the combatants and whoever wins doesn't even get to keep the money, but they keep their life.

Controls WASD - move SPACE - boost LEFT CLICK - shoot RIGHT CLICK - drug
