I’m in!

I am able to enter Ludum Dare 22!  No idea what my plan is yet for a game although most of the themes this year are within my grasp.  I suppose I should say a little bit about me before beginning.

I am a 16 year old aspiring game developer who codes currently in Java.  I like to make things that generate themselves using some sort of noise pattern or something similar.  I try to make things original in my code as well as in my game.  I haven’t made any big projects yet.  I have only known Java for about 7-8 months.  Despite all of this I decided to enter Ludum Dare not only to make a game, but to learn from others, and overall have a good time!  ^.^

=====Kontrol Ke’al,

=====The Pyromaniac Wolf

Its a Small World After All

This theme is a rather vague one…  I don’t like vague, nor do I like that Disney song.  I plan to combine both concepts.  How?  With genocide and really big feet!  No details yet… except for genocide and big feet… as I am almost done planning and making the base framework for the game.

Stay tuned for more madness with Kontrol Ke’al, right after these annoying songs:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KmBgJuS62Fc

I’m In, Hosting, and Hoping…

I am in the Ludum Dare for my second time…  Kinda.  last time the directory holding all my code and assets was corrupted and now I can no longer have a folder of the name “LD23 project” in the same location.  I learned how to use git the next day.   I am hoping this doesn’t happen again.

I am coding everything in Java as purely as I can and designing my sprites to be extra pixelated.  If your wondering the inspiration did indeed come from Notch and Minecraft.  I have no idea what style I am choosing for audio stuff yet.

I am also hosting the event over at the Hacker Dojo in Mountain View, California, USA.  The event page is here: CLICK_ME.  My only hope is I don’t go over the max people I can have in the building for the event.  Which would be bad…

Programs I am using:

  • Sprites will be done in Paint.NET
  • Audio will be done through Audacity
  • My IDE of choice is Eclipse
  • The Language I am using is Java

Thats it for now, I hope to see alot of good game out of this compo!

I Am Never Transferring Files Again

So I decided that updating my site for hosting the game I will make after the compo  was a good idea.  Then I had to transfer well over 9,000 large files…  Literally.  Then I made a mistake and had to transfer them again.  Then I had to do it again after putting in the correct SQL tables.

I never thought updating a site to a new plan would be so hard boring and time consuming.

The site is here:  Shamelessly Advertising

If it works though I can develop the game after Ludum Dare fairly easily.

I know my game….

So, I know my concept, came up with the full game play style, and have the theme for everything.  I will not give any details yet..  >.>  However, I will leave my inspiration here in the form of a morbid yet hilarious video.

Poisoning Pigeons in the Park:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yhuMLpdnOjY

… and We’re Poisoning Pigeons in the Park!

Almost, I am doing some sprites for my game and I must say, this is harder than I originally thought…  The sprites anyways.  The game will be this:

I plan on making it so you are a hobo who is fending off pigeons which are attacking you by means of poisons you have made from things in the trash.  Each generation of pigeons will be more resistant to potions you have made before and certain mutations such as speed boosts and attack power will come up as you play.  The latter will be implemented later if there is time.  The poisons you make from the trash will use an idea for alchemy I have had for a while now where you have several “elements” or types of potions.  Its just now your using trash to make poison.

So yeah, I now leave you with one of the images of inspiration.

We Are Poisoning Pigeons in the Park!

Yes, it is the guy who did the YouTube video.

And I’m Out.

Well, as much as I want to continue working on my game, I can’t find a reason to.  I am out of inspiration as well as motivation and definitely not in the mood to make games after yesterday.  No one showed up to the Hacker Dojo Ludum Dare meetup I had set up and I passed on many opportunities that came by when I started to make my game.

I will enter the next Ludum Dare, but this time I am out, despite the 5.5 hours left.  I leave you with a picture of a pigeon sprite I was going to use.

Yeah…  I will finish this at some point, but for now, sleep and homework.

LD25

I’m in.

Third time’s the charm, right?  My hope is to make something within the compo time limit this time.  My tools will probably vary depending on what theme is chosen and what I plan on making.  I’m just going to list what I might use:

Engine/Devtools:  Unity3D, GameMaker, Eclipse, or the DCPUToolchain

Programming languages:  C, C#, Java, or DCPU16 Assembly (I am serious about that last one)

Art/Sprites/3D Models:  Paint.NET, Blender, or just go full procedural

Music/Sounds:  Audacity or full procedural.

I will also put updates on my site HERE.

Sadly I will have a few hours where I can’t work on the game due to a concert and some other things.

LD26

I’m in, hosting an event, and streaming.

Hello World!

I’m in and hosting the real world meet up in Mountain View, California at the Hacker Dojo.  I even plan to stream this time… Maybe, we shall see.

Tools:

  • Audio:  Audacity
  • Graphics: Paint.NET
  • Language/IDE: Java and Eclipse
  • Frameworks:  LibGDX

Even if I haven’t managed to make a game for a single LD yet, I will still try no matter what.  To everyone participating, lets make some games!

Got Streaming to Work :D

It looks as though I am definitely able to stream this time.  For which I am happy for.  I will be using Twitch.tv and My channel is over here: http://www.twitch.tv/kontrol_keal

I’ll be doing a warmup by coding on my own game a bit.  Come watch me as I break all Java conventions  😀

LD28

Little Warmup Thing for LD48

Zombie shooting thing.... idk.

Made a thing where you can shoot monsters with infinite ammo and never take damage. Its a good warmup for something made in about 2-3 hours.

Wifi Card Woes

My wifi card almost died last night in the middle of a stream. Hopefully The same won’t happen again today. So far I have a thing which cycles through every color and changes the background to that color. I’ll make another gif when its less annoying to look at and has the actual bullet-hell stuff put in.

In the meantime, that stream I do that I mentioned: http://www.twitch.tv/kontrol_keal

LD29

Looks Like I’m In The Jam

So I’m participating in the jam as opposed to the Compo for once.  I’ll be joined by a few of my friends and livestreaming the whole thing on twitch.  We plan to use Unity3D for the engine of choice, every other tool is kind of undetermined right now until we see the theme.

  • Teammates:  Check
  • Team Name:  Check
  • Copious amounts of sugar and caffeine:  Check
  • Livestream setup:  Check
  • Checklist of things to check:  Check

I think we’re good to go, have a great Ludum Dare everyone!

I Made A Thing!

“I think I basically made a cookie clicker game but with shapes and graphics instead of cookies.”

Funny how I said in the beginning I would not only be working with a team but using Unity3D to make the game…  I think that a lot can happen in just 48 hours.  Like comcast killing my internet, going to a huge and generally amazing party, switching the idea of the game in basically an instant from everything to genre to engine, and finally making a game.  You can check out my submission HERE or just go straight to playing it HERE.

Because I can and did,
