LD35 April 15–18, 2016

Im In!

Hi, everyone. This will be my second time entering the Ludum Dare competition. Last time (LD33), I managed to complete a game, but it was more of a prototype than a game because I didn’t have enough time to replace the placeholder graphics or add music and sound effect. This time, thos ehtings will be more of a priority and I’ll make sure to get them done!

Tools:

  • Engine-Unity 3D
  • Graphics-Photoshop, Illustrator, or Blender
  • Sound-Audacity, Bosca Ceoil, Bfxr

Digital Apathy in

Digital Apathy with 2 members in this time – plink and dj_pale

Tools of the trade:

  • Gfx – Photoshop + asesprite
  • Sfx – ?
  • Music – Most likely Garageband if we have time
  • Programming language: haxe
  • Game framework: luxe engine
  • IDE – Atom

We’ve prepared some templates that we might or might not use based on haxe and luxe here: https://github.com/DjPale/LD-template-luxe

Good luck everyone!

I’m In!

This will be my third try at a Ludum Dare “compo”.

Same tooling than last time: npm packages (mostly stack.gl), browserify, some blender modeling with an Eclipse IDE topping. Oh, and I may reuse non-gameplay code from my github snippets and previous LD entries.

But different objectives: hopefully I’ll spend less time learning and pushing the technical envelope, and focus on gameplay elements. Answer in 50 hours :)

Guys, Fund LD!

I just noticed the new sidebar indicating Mike Kasperzak’s monthly earnings. When he first put out the request for pledges I put down 3 dollars a month, figuring that there must be a thousand people at least that commited. I am not the household income earner, so I didn’t want to pledge more unless it was neccesary. Then a few months ago a poll was sent around about having advertisers, something that I personally am against. I wrote so and some reasons why, then doubled my pledge. Seeing these new numbers, I increased to 15 because something needs to be done.

The numbers are going DOWN. I dislike trying to guilt people into doing things, but if even a tenth of the people participating were to submit that original 3 dollars (36 dollars USD a year remember, a bit over 40 in Canadian) that would easily exceed the goal.

36 thousand dollars minus taxes and expenses is basically a living wage, is that so much to ask for this bastion of creativity and gaming pleasure? Please, give generously…or even UN-generously, but give something. Surely we can all agree that LD is worth having one less bag of chips every month. Look at what you are making me write! I HATE asking people to do stuff.

Don't make the wealthy hispanic man cry!

I’m in!

I will try to finish something this time, so this will be my first finished LD.

I will probably be making a 2D Unity game.

I’m in!

I’m in!

I’m super hyped, but also pretty scared, just like last time :-)

I’ll be using Unity, MonoDevelop, MagicaVoxel and Audacity.

2h left!

LD35 Here I go !

Preparing myself for the 35th LD ! I can’t wait to see the theme, 3 hours to go now :)

I’m in

Hello!

This is my first Ludum Dare.

I don’t know yet what programming language I’m going to use…

I am deciding between:

  • Python with Pygame
  • Lua with Löve

Good luck and have fun everyone!

Oh man, go for love! It’s gonna make it so much easier for people to try your game. Pygame always seems to go bad on me whenever I give someones game a shot.

Ik doe mee!

Or, in english: I’m in!

I will use Love2D for my game this LD. Maybe Inkscape as well, since that worked well (altough still ugly as poop) last time, and I have my trusty Inkscape guru @Walnoot with me again this weekend! Oh, sound? Uhm… Otomata/Soundvox? I will also try to stream if it’s not too much trouble in the morning.

Good luck everyone!

hey

hey whats up dudes

Hi there, we wanted to give some small updates for the jammers here!

MachiaVillain Ludum Dare

Zimra and I made a ludum dare three years ago with the theme “You are the Villain”. The result was The Villain’s Rules, a game that reached #6 overall and Silver medal on Theme (yay!). We also wrote a post mortem about it. After finishing some important projects, including the game Freaking Meatbags on Steam, we began the production of Machiavillain. Machiavillain is the evolution of The Villain’s Rules, and while we changed some things, it’s still in the same silly spirit.

Basically, the game changed from a linear level with traps to a procedural world where you have to raise your monsters, build your mansion and slay the victims by the villains’ rules. The game was really praised for its mood, the horror clichés and the jokes. We wanted to go further on this funny side and deliciously evil mood while making the game more management / strategy style. We felt it was definitely better mechanics that can be played for longer hours.

Making ludum dare was very important because thanks to that Zimra could work on her first game, I had an interesting project to build after Freaking Meatbags and we’re even doing our first Kickstarter!

Meet the monsters, discover our gameplay systems and come see our mad scientist laboratory on Kickstarter. You can donate with blood or money… just kidding about blood. Or maybe I don’t. Not sure.
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/335326767/machiavillain-horror-mansion-management-game
PS: we gathered more than 20% of our goal in the first 24H hours ! Thank you everyone :)

Lasagna’s made, groceries are done. Bring it!

I’m in! It’s been ages since I’ve had the time to spend a full weekend on a Ludum Dare, but this time it’s finally happening again! I’ve prepared myself mentally by looking at all the different themes and thinking on what would be cool and what wouldn’t be. Also, made some lasagna so I just have to pop that in the oven and *ding* – food has arrived!

Tools:

  • Twine (yay, story-based games!)
  • Either bleepbox or my own clumsy guitar playing

  • Sound: Bfxr (maybe Audacity too)
  • Source control: Git with Github
  • Textedit: VS Code

Good luck to everyone else! We want to see awesome games!

In for the gold

The last time things didn’t go as smoothly as expected and we ended up 2nd (-hundred)(and sixty-first), but this time is gonna be payback time.

That’s right, and now we’ve got a NEW version of the Unity engine, locked-and-loaded.

UNITY-THREE-DIMENSIONAL-FIVE-THREE-FOUR-EFF personal.

He’s the dark crusader of Unity engine. He’s the underdog mutated hero of our generation.  Some call him JavaScript. Some call him UnityScript. Just who is he, anyway? I have no goddamn idea. And neither do you. But one thing is for sure – with him by my side, we’re gonna win this.

But what is this?! ACTUAL AUDIO?! That’s right, we’ve handpicked only the best quality royalty-free sound effects over the course of our preparation period (three minutes), and aren’t afraid to use them to blow your socks off!

Googer, the graphics guy, still can’t use anything but MSPaint. So there’s that too.

And will the time-travelling synthmaster himself, Snijboer, make a return?

I don’t know. He didn’t seem too keen when I asked.

We are IN!

I am doing my first Ludum Dare(72hr Jam) with a classmate of mine. We will be using:

  • Unity + Visual Studio (C#)
  • GIMP
  • Blender
  • sfxr and/or FL Studio

Good Luck to all!

I am in! (This time, I WILL submit my game!)

Last Ludum Dare, I did not submit my previous game due to shame. Then I remembered that the biggest shame was never submitting my unfinished game.

Engine: Gamemaker Studio/Unity (whichever I feel like)
Sound: Audacity (My mouth)
Art: Paint, or paint.net

Hello for Forth time!

I’m in!

After some time I decided to join LD once again~! You can know me from 29, 30 or 32 Ludum Dare, where I submitted Treasure Seeker, Untangle and… a “post mortem of failure” – simple post describing why I failed on 32nd Ludum Dare.
So my LD score is right now 2 successes, 1 failure. and 2 skipped jams. Hope on Monday my score will be: 3.1.2 :)

About me
All-time dreamer, and trekker. I traveled length and breadth of almost all polish mountain ranges. In my daily life I’m .NET software developer working with enterprise times web application. In those few bits of time when I’m not dream, trek or work I create games and write on my blog about more interesting software problems I faced.
You can find my latest projects on my github profile.

My tools
Once again I’ll abandon my favorite c++ try to make something in phaser.js.

Planning: Pen&Paper – you can look for my crapy diagrams this time, too!
Text-editor of choice: Notepad ++.
Art: MS Paint and GIMP.
Sound: Audacity with my guitar!
Source version control system: Git hosted via github.

Good luck, and have fun!

‘Course I’m in!

I’ll probably be taking part in the 48h category, as usual.

Not too many changes in the toolset compared to my previous entries:

  • Complimentary pen, paper and brains (slightly worn down, but brains nonetheless)
  • Language/IDE: Haxe + flixel on FlashDevelop or C#/Unity. I’ve been checking pico-8 and it seems very promising and intuitive, but I’d rather use something I’m more used to.
  • GraphicsGale/Aseprite + Photoshop for graphics, potentially using TexturePacker to create atlases.
  • Labchirp  + Bfxr + Audacity for sounds/sound editing.
  • Either Bosca Ceoil or Caustic 3 for music.
  • (Optional) Tiled, for tile-based level authoring.
  • Trello/Google Docs for keeping track of tasks.

    Good luck to everyone!

I’m In!

I’m in! I’ll be entering the Jam with avinashd! I’ll be mostly handling the media this time round. Looking forward to it!

We’re back!

AND WE’RE PUMPED!

I have arrived

Hello, I’m yet another lifeless soul merging into the creative landslide that is the Ludum Dare. Whoever you are, you now have this knowledge; whether it benefits you or not is not my problem!

Tags: DevSocYork

Big Bug Games joining.

We will do our best, as usual.

Our team:

Johnny – Music

Charras – Animation and drawing

Albu & Sola – Coding

I’m in!

Hello there, this is my first one.

My tools may be Unity/C#, Cinema4D, Illustrator, Pen.

Juhuu!

Review of my second ludum dare

After making the painful experience from my first ludum dare, I have now also collected the second painful experience.

The Idea was to have a fast growing forest. In the forest there is a railroad with some problems. Yes, exactly, trees are growing on the railroad! You have to quickly chop down the trees, so when the train arrives, his load of TNT wont explode. The forester tool is in this case an ax, of course.

start

The start screen with the player only existing with cubes from unity and yes there is an chop animation with his ax.

game_overview

Game overview. The trees were also only cube based made in unity, but they had an animation, so it looked like the trees where blowing in the wind.

train

The train with the TNT!

train_comes_out

The idea was to have a sort of cut scene at the end of the game, where you could see the remaining trees.

It did a lot of fun to participate and this time I achieved more then the first time, so I would consider it as a sort of success. If anyone is interested on the not finished game, he can check it out on my repository : https://bitbucket.org/mflod/ludum-dare/.

In And Ready!

I’ve cleared my entire calendar except for a computer repair for an elderly lady tomorrow… Shouldn’t take that long though. But I’m still pumped for LD35 tonight!

Language: Java

Tools: Eclipse(IDE) Paint.net(art)

Source Code Site: Github

Best of luck to all participating!

Temptation Grows Strong…I mean I’m in.

So I haven’t really prepared, but I think I’m gonna throw my hat into the ring and make something.

Engine/Framework will be HaxeFlixel, since I’ve managed to get it up to date, and I’d love to try out one of the newer features.

Graphics: Photoshop

Audio: BFXR + LMMS (if I bother to make music)

Tags: and now i'm in the tags goddammit, LD35

Four on the Floor

I am IN for my fourth Ludum Dare! As usual, I will be using Unity 3D, plus Blender if it is a 3D project, Audacity for any audio editing, and cgMusic for any music generation needed (shame it will only run on an WinXP VM).

My focus will be on humor once again, as that is perennially my strongest category.  I nearly cracked the top 100 last time (#108) (LD32) with “Dirty Fork: Unleash the Mayhem”.

Speaking of older entries, be sure to check out my ongoing Dehoarder 2 Steam Greenlight for the full realization of my LD26 entry, Dehoarder:

Cast

Best of luck to everyone, and may the best game win!

Going to try again

Been a year or more since I last participated. Have learned a bit of javascript since then. Will try that out.

Will use:
* Ubuntu 15.04
* Atom Editor
* Gulp because someone told me
* Aseprite for drawing
* Phaser game library

Hope to get together something since I only have the evening.

Good luck people!

I’m in (again)!

I’m in, with Unity or Phaser or…something. Back with old friends to team up and make some games, so LD35 might be the best one yet for me!

Sign me up!

After a long period of poorly timed commitments I’m finally free for my second Ludum Dare. My tools are prepped and I’ve booked the Monday off work for recovery. Here’s the important details…

Language: Javascript

Library: mw.js (my own framework supporting layers, entities, collision, tilemaps, particles, input, sprites and audio)

Graphics: pixelWIP (my simple, unfinished-but-usable, pixel art tool)

Audio: sfxr (an old faithful from Dr Petter) and maybe some freesound.org

Snacks: Pending

Anxiety Level: 5/7

Yeah, this time i am going all in!!

Hello everyone from Ludum Dare 35!!

My name is David, or “Asturk” if you prefer, and this is my 2nd try on this gamejam. I will be working alone, so my guarantees on this project is more on the game design and Programation area. I will try to be clever on the art design (since my drawing skills is almost obsolete!) and i can give a try on something or another at sound editing, maybe with the help of some Free Public content.

But anyway, i will be using:

Unity + C# language for game developing / engine and programming language.

Adobe Flash and/or Photoshop for the artistic part.

Adobe Audition for the sound editing.

Maybe there will be another programs that i will find out to use later.

That’s it! I wish good luck to every developer ou there that will be participating here (Indie or not)! And lets do some very awesome games here!! =D

Saucy Games is IN!

For our third Ludum Dare, completing our first year of joining this community. We are back and never have been more excited.PJ__GIF_CocoHelmet

I’m in

Hi folks!

This is going to be my first Ludum Dare and, I hope so, my first game to share.

Maybe I will create something simple and nice during these three days, why not just try after all? For some time that was quite a challenge for me to come up with idea of a game simple enough, yet beautifull, so I could produce it alone in just a few days, here and now. I’m so glad there is Ludum Dare and you guys and girls. It seems there is a chance to confine my whimsical imagination and finally get something decent out of it :) After succeeding with this cunning plan,  I will use

  • Unity
  • Aseprite
  • BoscaCeoil and cfxr

Good luck everyone!

Probably in.

In, probably.

Code: VS2015, C++ with OpenGL and my utils library (basically the same as #LD33): http://eiserloh.net/ld33/GypsyEngine-2015.08.21.zip

Sell Your Creations!

Hey everybody!

This Ludum Dare is coming up super quick and it is going to be a good one I can feel it! Everybody who participates is a champion and deserves recognition for creating such wonderful things for people to use! The rest of the world have a hard time realizing the amount of effort, work and creativity put into every game made ever,ESPECIALLY indie games. I am an indie developer myself and I love creating software for people to use for little to no charge, its just the sheer pride i take in my creations and being able to help people.

I have created an online indie game marketplace where you indie developers can go and sell your games FOR FREE!(no hosting or submission fees) I had launched the website back in January and from then had nothing but a positive experience. I do not charge the developers on my website, I encourage as many games as possible to be posted, I deal with getting the users to buy and play the games.

To Mioti Games

A user of my website, Blockout22, and I have been in the works of creating a launcher for my website, and it is currently in heavy development, but works! It is made in java and will be free forever!

If you would like to be a tester for us, Download the Launcher Here

Happy developing everybody, I can’t wait to play your games!

What better motivation to make a first game than a hard deadline?

I’m on LudumDare 35

i’m in!!

this is gonna be my second LD, i’ll be working with two friends of mine, and we’ll be using:

Unity

Blender

Photoshop

Audacity

Gimp

(i guess that’s it!!)

😀 Good Lucky for everyone!!!

I’m in!!!

Long time since my last Ludum dare!

But I’m in on this one and hope I can finish it since I can’t work full time as I have some other jobs to do…

I will be using Unity 5 for this one but its not so long since I’ve starting learning it, last time I’ve used Construct 2 that is a tool that I have good experience.

I will do my best to try the compo, but since I’m not so experienced on Unity, maybe I would need to go for the jam.

Have fun ppl!

I think I am in… We’ll see…

Well it is gonna be a little bit complicated for me right now because I have basketball team evaluations tomorrow and that means I have to get good sleep. it will end up stealing at like 12 hours of my 48 hours leaving me with 36 hours to make it. I think this will be enough time since I have already planned everything out and it seems like I have too much time but we will see. Wish me luck.

I’m in…

Alright ALRIGHT jeeze I’m in. . . . . ..
I’ll be using Game Maker and graphicsGale. Might try using fruity loops for music, might use Audacity and BFXR for sound effects. I’ll be working alone for a Compo entry, and by the end of it if i’m not done, Ill add one day and get some help, turning it into a Jam entry instead. As usual!

I’m in

First timer.  I have a custom C++ engine which I’ve tinkered with on and off for several years.  It’s never been available publicly until now, but I intend to put the whole thing up on github when I’m done.  I’ll be doing a 2D game this time around, though I’ve done 3D work in this engine before (and the whole pipeline for 3D is there if I change my mind at the last minute.)

Tools and libraries:

  • Developing on Mac OS X (but can and will build on Windows as well)
  • GLFW
  • YSE sound engine
  • Tiled map editor
  • rapidxml (Just for loading tmx files from tiled)
  • Pixen (maybe Pixelmator and gimp too)
  • bfxr
  • Emacs

Didn’t realize until last night that this was this weekend, and am coincidentally all by myself for the weekend too.  Scraped together a starter project and tools as fast as I could, so here we go!

for my 6th LD, this time I can’t fail!

I’ll be using my usual LibGDX, blender, gimp, paint.net combo, with the new addition of Inkscape and my SvgLib library (maybe)  https://bitbucket.org/CiderPunk/svglib

I’m in!

I’m in and ready for another challenge, lets see how it will go! 😛

let it in

ludum-promo01

We are kind of being in. Pun for fun.

Designer is heading sleep and I am trying to prepare a boilerplate in libgdx.

Eclipse, starting totally from scratches in libgdx, prepared some templates for music in Renoise.

Team 2 deers.

I’m in

2nd Ludum Dare, let’s go.

I’m in

Hi everyone,

My first time to LD,

I will use GMS, Aseprite, bfxr, and maybe Figure(if I make music)

Good luck to you all and have fun! :)

I’m in!

It’s gonna be my fifth Ludum Dare in a row since starting with Ludum Dare #31. I’ll be using:
– Unity
– Visual Studio
– GIMP
– Bfxr and maybe Audacity, if I get round to audio
– Caffeine and willpower

Good luck to everyone taking part! :)

Remember: Fail Fast

Test your basic idea first!

One-hour prototypes help if you are trying to tackle new or unfamiliar mechanics.

The prototype doesn’t need to be greatly coded, or have great assets, etc. It just needs to test the basis of your game.

If you fail fast, you still have plenty of time to try other ideas.

Don’t be afraid of failure. Try to extract as much insight from a failure as you can.

Have a good LD :)

these are really great tips!

I’m in

I’m in

I’m in!

In for another ludum dare.

I know for sure it’ll be in javascript/HTML.  It will probably use phaser.

I’m In for my 8th time!

I’ll be doing the 48hr compo again.
Here are the tools that I’m gonna be using,

Game Engine: Unity or Stencyl
Art: Adobe Photoshop and/or Adobe Illustrator
Audio: FL Studio 11, Magix, Sfxr, Bfxr
Screencast: Camtasia Studio
Design and Notes: Evernote
and lots of coffee.

I probably won’t be able to use all 48hrs of the weekend just for the jam so I will prevent myself to do complex ideas and stick for a simpler one.

Goodluck everyone and let’s all have some fun this weekend!

CRITICAL BATTLE COMMENCED – Yet another Dark Souls meets LD run!

nope-logo-notext

So… apparently we only join in when a Soulsborne game drops, for some unknown reason! Last time for us was #29, so here we are again, a bit rustier than normal but with new tricks to play! Just like the last time, it’s only my little brother and me, with an added distraction, Ryuk:
Ryuk-2

As with every other time, we’ll be using:

  • Unity – for the complete game design.
  • Inkscape – for any kind of vector graphics.
  • Paint.NET – for any simple graphics.
  • Audacity – for the sound editing needs.
  • Gimp – for fancy effects!

And we’ll take resources from:

  • OpenGameArt.org (credits will be given properly in a case-by-case basis)

Finally, we’ll make use of other sites to help us in general.

  • WordPress – for the website.
  • Thesaurus – for all of our wordy needs.

We’ll try to make updates as we go, but due to time constraints, it may not happen at all!

PS: We’ll be hosting our game / site on http://nope.hol.es/ , so you’re all welcome to come have a look to see it grow! :) I may or may not update @Kalth_Streil too!

Third try is the charm?

Let it be so!

Signing in with home-cobbled Java, mouth-made noises, and programmer *cough* art. Time to add to the world’s knowledge of insanity~

We’re in for… HARD MODE

This go round I’ll be working with Phaser/Typescript to make a platformer.  Everyone on the team is stretching themselves to try something  new.

My personal challenge is to do all the graphic art, music, and SFX… Which is going to be fun because I’m neither an artist or a musician! I wanted to try something different this time.

Mike will be doing the programming, and while he’s a programmer by trade, he’s only done the tutorial of Phaser. CHALLENGE ACCEPTED

Our third team member is a heavy Unity user, but that won’t help here because there’s no C# or IDE to be found.

We might need some help so we have a few other guys who might show up to give a hand… We’ll see what sort of unfamiliar thing we can foist on them. 😉

See you at the finish line and have fun!

My base code

I forked sjrd’s scalajs-phaser-demo to have a starting point with scala.js and phaser. I didn’t have as much time as I wanted to work on it but implemented basic audio functionality and proved to myself that adding the phaser bindings for scala.js is easy enough to do as needed. Here’s the repo for anyone who might be interested:

https://github.com/disperse/ld-35

Just excited to know about the theme

This is my first time here. I’m realy excited to know the theme soon.

I’ll try to do something in HTML5 and javascript with phaser engine.

Hope i get finish this try.

See you all later.

I am entering the Jam!

This is my first game jam on any website. I hope it goes well.

I am going to be using either Unity, GameMaker, or maybe even Scratch. The prompt might determine which one.

Best of luck to everyone else!

Ready to create and code!

This is my first LD, and I shall be streaming the entire process start to finish via youtube, basically when I’m awake the stream will be up.

http://www.youtube.com/c/MikeDX2/live

The code will be updated LIVE to github on each compile / run.

https://github.com/MikeDX/mikedx-ld35

A playable version will also be updated on my site on each compile/ run (slight delay), so you can code along, and play along with me in (near) real time!

(link to be added once we get going)

Good luck to all those entering.

As for the last 3 Ludum Dare, we chose an additional theme.

This time it’s a painting by Zao Wu-ki called Hommage à Matisse :

In my CS graphics course I have to do a school project and the proposal is due tonight. Luckily the timing works perfectly for the Ludum Dare!!!

  • get theme
  • plan game
  • write class proposal
  • build game

I’m going to be using WebGL and am probably going to build art with maths.

My First Game Jam

This is my first game jam ever and I am really looking forward to it.  Ryan Poolos told me about it at my first ever conference, RWDevCon.  I’m 16years old and I’ll be using scene kit to make my game!
