I’m in

Hi all,

This is a standard “I’m in” post. Expect nothing interesting from it.
The same shit everyone writes, and the same tools everyone uses:

  • Unity – engine
  • Audiotool – music
  • Audacity – audio editing
  • Bfxr – sound fx
  • Paint.net – basic image editor
  • InkScape – svg image editor
  • Blender – 3D modeling

Happy Ludum, Lucky Dare!

I’m in! …do I even have to say this if I already have an account? I should just check before I type this but you know how it is, I’m already all the way over here in another window and the FAQ is all the way back in ANOTHER window…of course being this lazy before LDJAM even starts probably doesn’t bode well for my productivity but like, I’m SAVING all my productivity for the Jam…ya, that’s it, that sounds believable.

LD32 was my first LDJAM and I made this:

http://ludumdare.com/compo/2015/04/23/ludum-dare-32-sidearmed-post-mortem/

This time I’m going to make something even more pointlessly flashy and ridiculous. Maybe. Or maybe it’ll be some DEEP MEANINGFUL ART PIECE gamifying social commentary through deep pixelated metaphors that make you question everything you’ve ever known about life and reality. WHO KNOWS?? …it’ll probably have explosions either way though.

Code: GameMaker Studio (this time I’m being smart and putting together a framework ahead of time so I don’t have to waste a day trying to make a camera zoom out or get Spine animations to import properly lol)

Art: Photoshop and Spine

Music/SFX: Digging through Kevin MacLeod’s royalty-free incompetech.com music and the boopin’est sounds I can make in bxfr.net as always.

Fuel: All the Monster I’ve been living off may or may not have made my heart almost explode so I haven’t had Monster or caffeine in a month. I figure since I’m not used to caffiene anymore I can expect one cup of green tea to keep me wide awake from this LDJAM till the next one. I WILL BE SO PRODUCTIVE.

Twitter: @BPOutlaws – I’ll be Tweeting my progress thru the weekend, follow me and watch my psyche slowly crumble from the stress till I’m reduced to a blubbering mass, rocking back and forth crying silent tears in the fetal position.

Hi Jeff!

Iniam again, will scrape together any minute i can this weekend :)

The last two times the 48h time restriction was whittled down by social responsibilities to 12 and 6h, but this weekend should be free and i am ready to go!

Language: JS, nothing else can be played by EVERYBODY which is an important point IMHO

Library: Phaser as my favourite JS lib (can’t wait for version 3 with multiple cameras)

IDE: As always the fantastic PHPStorm (i tried many, but forget free, you get what you pay for, and this one is really well priced)

Tools: The usual suspects of some node tools for packaging, Sass and so on. Also i am going to use jroblaks  Yo generator for phaser

Sound: Hoping to improve on that section with the help of my own voicebox, Audacity and Bfxr / Sfxr

Music is as always the big unknown, never managed to include it, but i read here about someone using wolfram generator and i will give this one a try.

So, good luck to you all,

goeth forth and codeth.

I believe, someone did a PDF-game last time. Seems at least as compatible as js to me… ^^

I’m totally in!

Hello everybody,

Just wanted to announce how thrilled I am for the competition coming up in a few days. Usually I fly solo, but I found an awesome team that I will be teaming up with for the 72-hour jam. I will be using Unity 5.1.2 Personal along with some snackage for fuel. Good luck and have fun, everybody.

Pixel Art Programs

Hey folks!

I’m thinking of trying a different art style this time around(pixel art) as opposed to the vector graphics I usually go for. My art skills are limited, but I still want to experiment.

I was wondering if anyone in the community had some favourite programs for pixel art drawing/animation? I’ve heard some good things about GraphicsGale, but not much beyond that. I’d love you hear what you guys use.

I’ve dabbled in pixel art a bit.

I use Spriter for animations. I’d recommend it.

I recommend Aseprite, it is normally 10$ or you can compile the source code (it is open source on github).

I usually just go with paint.net and use the animation helper plugin for animated stuffs

In we go!

Finished my first GameJam in Unity just in time to get ready for the next one!

Trying to put something together in 72 hours is going to be… fun?

The only tool I know I’m going to use is Unity, not sure what I’m going to do for all the other assets I’m going to need, probably raid the unity asset store and openGameArt as usual.

Really hoping for a good theme, people seem to have a propensity to pick the themes that are hardest to come up with ideas for.

I’m In!! (LD33)

Hello guys! I am returning for my 2nd ever Ludum Dare compo and I’m very excited! My last entry did much better than I expected and I’m a little nervous about living up to my previous efforts. Anyway; good luck everyone!

Tools:

My tools are as follows:

  • Unity3D v5 – engine
  • Visual Studio 2012 – programming
  • Blender – 3D modelling
  • PaintShop Pro – textures, art, image editing
  • SAI PaintTool – digital painting
  • bfxr – sound effects (I think, may change)
  • LMMS – music
  • Wikidpad – notes
  • git – version control
  • Texture Packer – spritesheet editor

Code Base:

CGS stands for Core Game Systems and it generally contains a bunch of useful tools that help speed up development:

  • Event driven communication between components
  • Unit test tools
  • Save/load functionality
  • Numerical ‘stat’ class that you can apply modifiers to
  • Physics based character controller
  • Debugging tools
  • Time and file utility classes

Zip file of framework code:

CGS v1.0.4

P.S.: I find this post on tumblr to be useful as a new game jammer.

I’m in for this weekend!

I’ve been spending the past few days digging through my old game design books, learning techniques for Flash games, and porting the examples to pixi.js.

I’m planning on using pixi.js and maybe some boilerplate I end up writing over the next few days for my engine.

Wish me luck! <3

I’m kinda out

I will be unable to work Friday night or most of Saturday and probably not any Monday. That limits me to just over a day. This game won’t be the best but I’ll do my best.

I’m in, like Flynn. 2 years

Hello everybody!

2 years ago I’ve participated in LD for the first time and haven’t missed one ever since. Ludumdare is truly an amazing competition, I’ve met a lot of people trough this community and learnt a lot of game development stuff.

So this time, I’m back once again. This time I’ll be using following tools:

Software:

PC/Peripherals:

  • Computer: MacBook Air 11-inch 2014, CPU: Intel Core i5, RAM: 4GB, SSD: 120GB
  • Operating System: Mac OS X 10.10.4
  • Keyboard: Razer BlackWidow
  • Mouse: A4tech X6-30D
  • Monitor: Acer S323HL

I will participate in 48-hour compo.

Good luck, and see you at the jam!

In Since 29

I’m kind of getting bored of writing these in messages.. Since Ludum Dare 29 I’ve been trying to participate in every Dudum Dare. This will be my 5th and I will be using Vim, Go, SFML, and Krita/pinta and LMMS.

I’m in

My first LD.

Will be using:

Unity

Photoshop

BFXR

Im in!

It is so happening this time! I cant wait!

First LD. Edit: “I’m in!”

I’ll be streaming Friday 4pm and Sunday 10am GMT at twitch.tv/edvinholm.

Unity.

I’m in

That time again already.  Better let the family know so I don’t show up on a missing persons report.  Pizza, energy drinks, and all sorts of snacks.  Let’s do this.

As usual… plan to use Unity and misc items from the Unity Asset Store.  Unsure about anything else.  If time permits, Modo or Substance stuff.  Not going to try my own music.

I also plan to stream to keep the energy levels up.  Last time out, I didn’t stream but got blah and wimped out halfway through.

I’m in!!!

Alright, this time I’m sure I’ll have time, and I’m super motivated!

I’ll be using phaser.io and Pisken, most likely. I really want to get a basic 2d game out, but if the theme lends itself to it I may still go the Twine way.

Good luck to all!

I’m in! Go-Go-Go

Hello!g lad to participate in second time on this awesome event!
My first try was a pretty succesful: #78 overall ?

This time i want to create game, binded to music and beats (it’s should be awesome, i practiced some ideas on GGJ15)

Good luck to all, lets create a brilliant games!

Hi. New to community!

I was wandering if it’s possible to make good enough entry games using only free versions of software (e.g construct 2 free-version, etc…).?

Also, is there free software or free software versions that is good enough for ludum dare?? Thanks.

p.s new to programming, been learning c++ and sdl as a hobby, heard c++ is really hard for doing ludum dare…

If your idea is pretty simple, and more reliant on the art, I’d think the free version of Construct 2 would be fine. It gets pretty limiting when you want to make something a bit “bigger” though.
