See you in the compo!
It’s that time again. It’s coming. And now I will start using PyGame. Not unity. Risky bet. But I can do it! And so can you! I’m in, and I hope you are to. I will see you in the compo.

So hyped to be entering Ludum Dare! This will be my seventh time doing it and I’ve managed to produce five fully-working games in my past six attempts.
I will be entering the compo and using a completely new stack of technologies that I have never really touched before (until this last week or two I guess):
Framework: Phaser
My first ever entry was a Flash game since I’m an old Flash developer. After that I moved on to Game Maker which I really loved and haven’t given up on. My motivation for the switch was to get into a more multi-platformed and open source model. I’ve only been looking into this for about a week but it seems like a solid, if opinionated, framework.
IDE: Visual Studio Code
Not open source, but very multi-platform being that this software was built on the amazing Electron platform with HTML/CSS/JavaScript. I’ve only been messing around with this for two weeks but have been VERY impressed. It is very early (still in Alpha) but I hope this goes on to replace the existing Visual Studio eventually. It’s lightweight like a text editor (fast, simple UI) but does heavy lifting IDE things (debugging, intellisense) when you need it to. It’s also got built-in node.js and git support (my version control of choice).
Language: TypeScript
It is very rare when something makes me say “Holy shit, this is awesome!” in the development world, but getting to know TypeScript has definitely done that for me. I work with JavaScript every day at work and while it is becoming better and better every year, TypeScript makes it feel like an honest-to-goodness heavy duty, modern language. Just the fact that you immediately see inconsistencies and errors instantly in your editor before running code OR compiling it makes you much more productive opposed to vanilla JavaScript. The type system also makes it easier to logically organize your code and is really powerful. It also works perfectly with existing JavaScript code (type definitions for existing libraries, yay!) and is open source to boot.
OS: Mac OS X
I work with Windows at work but have fond memories of doing web development in OS X in the past. I wouldn’t call myself an Apple fanboy but I just find working on OS X a little more pleasant. This will be my first game development of any kind on a Mac and I’m looking forward to it!
I’m in again, and I’ll try to get up to speed with phaser.io enough to reach a level that I feel comfortable to switch out unity for a while.
Here’s my playground! Chiptune and sky gfx made before by me, while the rest is done this evening.
Definitely feeling positively surprised by phaser!
My tools:
Audio
Musagi
FL studio
Audacity
(Perhaps: Jammer)
Graphics
Pyxel
Paint.NET
Code/IDE:
Either Unity or Phaser.io
Sublime text
Misc.
Coffee to stay focused when I need
Fiancée to make sure I take some breaks
Good luck! May the weekend arrive soon enough…
Hello fellow Ludum Dare competitors!
For this LD me & Foxel will be entering the jam (once again) as a team. On this occasion though Foxel will be in the United Kingdom, staying at my residence and we’ll be doing this jam as it should be done.
Below are the tools ->
So that’s our obligatory “I’m in!” post.
-Mace & Foxel
I just finished my entry for the GameBoy Jam 4 and i … am … exhausted…
I dont have any vacation this summer, so basicaly, i was working during the day and programming the rest of the time for the past 7 days…
Here is what i have done if you are interrested to see it^^:
Anyway…
I am obviously 100% in for LD 33!
Hopefully i’ll get some rest this week and be fully prepered for this. =)
This time I’m in for my fourth Ludum Dare Compo in a row, and this time I’m especially excited for it as it’s a chance to start out a fresh game and to just try out a lot of new things without having to worry about code-readability for future-me and long-term-planning. Just the sweet joy of starting a project. Since April I’ve mainly been working on just a single game. That’s not that much time compared to other people’s projects which sometimes take years to complete, but for me it feels like ages since I used to kickstart some new gameidea every week or so and never really released anything.
My tools of choice:
-Gamemaker Studio for messy programming
-Paint.net for janky sprites
-bfxr for crunchy sound effects
-Bosca Ceoil for funky music
Good luck eyeryone!
First time joining! 😀
I have 100% no clue how this will go
Engine: Unity
Audio: Bfxr and autotracker.py
Art: Paint.net
I have only 15, but I’m crazy enough to do the Ludum Dare 33. This will be my first game jam and Ludum Dare.
And I will work with someone else.
B216
Howdy!
First post – I’ve technically been ‘in’ for the last two major events, with less than desirable results and no submissions. We’ll see how it goes this time!
Tools, may vary:
Programming: Java, in Eclipse
Libraries: JMonkeyEngine 3 / Slick2D (with JBox2D)
Graphics: Fireworks / GIMP
Sound effects: BFXR / Audacity
Music: FL Studio 12
Art is the bane of my life.
Fell behind on my GAME A WEEK project this summer, but plan to catch up on it over the next week, then finally spend this weekend doing my (hopefully) first successful LD! Yay!
Should i?
I’m in, two years after the first one I was in. The theme was 10 seconds. I was making a text adventure about biological weapons in Inform 7. I didn’t finish a game for Ludum Dare (or anything for that matter) until last December when I worked with my friend Shawn for the first time. This time around I have another friend helping also. We don’t really have an idea what we will do, it might just be something normal like a hack ‘n’ slash about a ninja vampire with a glass sword after the apocalypse, which happened when there were 24 world wars in one month.
I have never participated in Ludum Dare before, but as far as music goes I am fast (I have a twitch stream (currently offline) about making full songs in under 3 hours): www.twitch.tv/eternal_renegade
Here is a link to some of my music:

And I look forward to participating!
OK, I seem to have forgotten to talk about my toolbox in the last post. Shame!
This time I will be using:
Good luck to all of you! I will be on IRC if you want to talk to me 😀
If anyone else is developing on OS X, Quicktime Player takes really good screen recordings (File -> New Screen Recording). You get a .mov which can go straight up on gfycat.
Hello World!
So this is the first ever Ludum Dare (and Game Jam as well) for me! I’m super excited about it. I am 15 years old and I’ve been making games for 6 years now so it’s time to test my skill!
I’ll be using:
– Unity3D
– GIMP and Blender for Artwork
– BFXR and Audacity for SFX (Might use SFXR as well)
I’ve not had a chance to participate for a few jams now, but I’m hoping to spend some time doing something fun next weekend for LD33. Thinking about maybe playing with pico8, but more than likely I’ll be playing with my usual tools:
Hardware: Macbook Pro, MPK25 keyboard
Game Engine, Languages, & Tools: Unity 3D, C#, Xamarin Studio
Libraries & Frameworks: Vectrocity, Spine, Grids Library for Unity
Graphics & Art: Corel Painter 12, Photoshop CS, Blender 2.7, Spine
Music & Audio: Ableton 9
This is going to be my first time participating in ludum dare. I recently graduated as an engineer in computer science, and have developed a few games during my time there. Also went to my local Global Game Jam this year with a 2D minecraft-esque auto scroller.
Oh yeah, I have no skills in graphic design, beware.
I have currently made games using:
So I lost an entire evening trying to get my warm up game shareable through dropbox and have tried every solution I could find on google and nothing is working. first timer here so if anyone could shed some light my way on how I get the embed to work I would be very grateful. As I just get told DL failed each time.
Hey guys,
I have written a client for Tomatoes Together in Java. Just download and run it and then everyone will be in sync.
