LD23 April 20–23, 2012

I’m in and looking for an artist

This is my first Ludum Dare. I’m a programmer and i’m looking for an artist. As for what language i will use, my first thought was to use Java + Eclipse + Libgdx, but for the sake of speed and being my first time i chose GameMaker.

If you are an artist and are interested in joining, here is some of my work:

Hello, I’m a pixel artist looking for a programmer! What are the odds 😀

What kind of game do you have in mind, I’m very interested in helping.

First time I’m in!

My name is Tomas and I’m from Slovakia. I am interested in computer graphics and level design mainly. I don’t know much about programming, so I’m counting especially on good idea and visual processing. Also I’ll probably try to make something to this Warmup Weekend… I have to remember the basics. I’ll be using:

» Programming: ActionScript3 with no external libraries

» Graphics: Photoshop

» Sounds: don’t know yet, probably Sfxr, Audacity, maybe FL Studio (depends on time)

» Timepalse: Chronolapse

In addition I upgraded LD logo for this event, so who want may use it in their game.

Ludum Dare 23

Uh les do dis

Alright, let’s see if I can knock something out this weekend.

Theme: Tiny Plants Jump!
Language: Visual C++ 2008 Express Edition
Engine: CinderLib (http://libcinder.org/)
Graphics: Either procedurally generated or knocked out of gimp or paint.net – can’t remember which one I used before 😛

For the record, I got no clue yet what I’m gonna make, so it may fail altogether, but I hope to at least have something silly. Without sound, most likely.

I’m IN! (tentatively)

You just never know what the next weekend will bring with an excitable toddler around.

But I think I’ve learnt enough in Unity now to get something or other working in unity next weekend.

I’ll be probably using the following:

Unity3d, Photoshop, sfxr, audacity, Milkshape 3d and textpad for one thing or another. might put some time-lapse software on the compy to see how it all goes!

I’m in! Second LD48, didn’t finish last time

Hey, all. I just wasn’t ready for LD22. Tried way too much for what little I knew. This time I’m prepared and ready to take it on. I’ll probably try a quick warmup game before next weekend, too.

What I’ll be using:

Programming: Unity 3D – Javascript

Sounds: sfxr & random other things

Graphics: PhotoFiltre & PhotoShop

Modeling: Anim8or

Taylor Swift, Rush, Muse, La Roux, in the background to keep me going. 😀

If I stream it will be here: http://www.twitch.tv/captainicy (Might stream, might not. I’ll have to see)

It’s shaping up to be another awesome Ludum Dare, so good luck to everyone out there, and have fun. 😀

Question: BitCoin?

General question for everyone: Does anyone in the community use BitCoin?

(Also, does this WordPress install support polls?)

Also, I hope to submit my first entry this time!

I don’t follow it closely, but if I recall there was some “falling out” several months back that tainted/tarnished it. A bit too shady for me IMO.

Hi. I use bitcoin. Do you have questions?

I’m in

Hopefully this LD I won’t have mental jitters by the end!

I’m using C# with XNA 4, I’m probably going to use a microphone and Audacity to make sounds, and Paint.NET for the graphics.  My brother will probably be doing the music if I do the Jam.

My goal is to do better than last time, and if possible better than the time before that.  Here’s hoping for a better theme than Alone.

I’m in for LD23

Hello everyone. I’m in for Ludum Dare 23 and will try my self made java engine JUltraGame which you can find at https://github.com/neosam/JUltraGame

Also I will use

  • LMMS to make music,
  • sfxr or bfxr for game sound
  • Gimp, Inkscape or Blender for grahics (I will decide it next weekend :)
  • IntelliJ Idea as IDE
  • Ubuntu Linux as OS

For the timelapse I will use some of my self written bash scripts. I will upload them soon on https://github.com/neosam/scripts

This time I will be prepared, last time I didn’t finish… I also take part on the LD Test this weekend.

Good luck and much fun everyone!

Procedurally Generated Plant Life Thingies!

Well, here’s my first Screenshot!

They are procedurally generated plant! life! thingies… Still needs some work, but I’m having fun bugging about 😛

I’m in!

First time in. I missed last 2 ludum dares, though I wanted to participate. 10th anniversary seems like best time to start anyway. I have more experience with c++ but I’m not sure whether I can complete a game within 48 hours with it. Maybe next time.

  • Language: as3 (flex-sdk)
  • Graphics: gimp
  • Sfx & Music: bfxr, autotracker-bottomup (>schismtracker >ffmpeg, I guess)
  • Framework: possibly flixel (I am gonna decide in warmup weekend), flashpunk
  • Editor: vim

I learned most of these tools from others’ posts. I played with them, but have no real experience. I will try to make a simple game in warmup weekend (update: warmup link), and hopefully be ready for the challenge (LD 23).

Anyway good luck to everyone.

So In For LD Twenty Three

I missed out on LD22 but here was my entry from LD21. And Just Like That, I Was Free.

Personal goal from this LD would be to use Unity instead of my old standby flash. Also would love to take whatever I make and turn it into a mobile game. I will also be writing the music using my ever-growing army of synths and hardware.

Also I donated to The Cause over on the right. Ludum Dare is easily my favorite event out of all recurring events, and I want very much for it to continue forever.

UPDATE:

I’ve decided to look into Axel this time.  It runs at a decent clip on my phone and iPad, so it’s got what I really wanted out of Unity anyway.  So, my final toolset:

  • CODE: AS3 with Axel (compiling in Flash Builder on my mac and Flash Develop on my PC)
  • MUSIC: LSDJ for Gameboy + some sweet synths in Logic like nLog and quadraSID.
  • ART: Photoshop

Also I’ve been informed that I have to watch my kids on Sunday while my wife goes out of town, which may greatly hamper my ability to finish any lofty goal.  Better to participate than not, though!

LD #23, here I come!

Well, this is going to be my first Ludum Dare and I thought why not start on the 10th anniversary? I’m already working on my warmup game (Basic town simulator thing) and I’ll probably post that later today.

Here’s what I’m using:

Language: Java

Framework: LibGDX, along with my base code for input and rendering.

Sounds: I’ll probably figure this out 5 mins before the deadline. Might be sfxr or something completely different.

Graphics: Paint.NET

Timelapse: Chronolapse

Good luck to everybody entering this time around! :)

A New Direction and Some Progress

So… psychological design got boring quickly. It hit me that the thing actually would be kind of meaningless and boring to play. :(

So… I took what I had and went in a new direction. Basically, I am un-forking my two shmup projects, merging Pew Pew into a different one entirely.

Basically, I’m remaking an old game of mine.

In 2007, I was in high school. I had learned Java in a class and was happy. I had made Tetris for the class’s final project, and the presentation had gone very well. I was pleased.

But… I wanted to make a shmup. So I made Space Assault, which was a mediocre shmup, but it was a working game that I made. I was very pleased.

Now, some years later, I’m more experienced in game development. I have knowledge of better tools (I used Swing for the original Space Assault) and I am better with artwork.

So… time to start fresh and do the thing over. Time to remake Space Assault. :)

Here’s a screenshot:

Screenshot of the player's ship on a green background

The player's ship on a green background. It'll make sense later, promise!

I am going to do a really nice remake of the original game later on, but for the LD warmup I just want to get it working as a serviceable shmup. I will make some boilerplate, which I will use for the LD jam. I’ll post a zip of the boilerplate when I have the stuff that I intend to use later.

Trying a new type of sendoff here…

When’s the last time you strolled down memory lane?

– Henry

Time for a second try

I’ll be joining again, for the second time, after a platformer (LD22).
Once again, I’ll be using JawsJs as engine.

Code: Javascript – JawsJs -> HTML5 canvas
Graphics: Photoshop – Pickle
If tilebased: Tiled
Sounds: Bfxr
Editor: Sublime Text 2

And again I’ll be providing a stream on my new channel, http://www.twitch.tv/anibelung .

I’m in for the LD#23 !

I will do the compo, in 48h i will make a game in Java or AutoIt, i’m not sure already…

Almost armed and almost ready!

I’m in for LD23!

Im planning on making a pixel art platformer of some kind. This weekend I’m making sure my asset pipeline makes sense. My stack:

  • Clojurescript
  • Canvas
  • Photoshop
  • Audacity
  • My fledgling cljs gamelib “showoff”

LD23: In.

Hi Folks,

I am in for LD23. This will be my second attempt at the contest, and hopefully my first actual submission. :)

Tools I plan to use for various purposes, should said purposes arise:

* Unity3D Pro for design, animation, various testing, and publishing
* GIMP for pixels
* 3DS Max for geometry & texturing
* Bfxr for sound effects generation
* Audacity for additional sound effects work
* OpenMPT for music
* Sublime for code and text
* MonoDevelop for debugging
* Mercurial for source versioning
* Pen & Paper for ideation and problem-solving (Pilot G-2, 8.5×11 .25″ grid graph)
* IRC, Bandcamp, and various musics on my hard drive for motivation and inspiration

Additionally, I’ll be using AutoScreenshot to take screenshot at regular intervals throughout the 48 hours. I’ll try using 30 second intervals during the warmup, and use that during the official compo if that doesn’t cause too any problems. Otherwise, I’ll use the default 2 minute interval. At the end of the compo, I’ll encode all the resulting images into a video and upload it to either youtube or vimeo, so you can all see what I did.

My target platform is a one-click/touch format, primarily using Unity Web Player for the compo, with additional publishing to Windows, Mac, and Android. (no Unity Pro iOS license just yet.. :P)

I’ll try a warmup game or two this weekend with this setup. If everything goes smoothly, this will be how it is for me next weekend.

Looking forward to making some games and playing some of yours!

I’m in

This is my first participation and I am curious to see what can be done in 48h. I would love to work with C++/OpenGL but it seems that Flash is better for this. So, I will go with Haxe and maybe try Box2D if it’s good for the theme. I am currently experimenting with the haxe version of this library and will try to use it for a warmup game.

Now, let’s create some fun!

First timer here!

Hi! My name is Guilherme and I’m from Brazil. I wanted to participate on other entries but I didn’t feel I was ready yet, so I only spectated! I learned a lot from other participants source codes and livestreams before and now I feel ready to make my part!

I’ll be using Java/Eclipse for coding, Paint.NET for spriting, sfxr for sound effects and (maybe) SunVox for sound track. My target platform is web (Java Applet) and I plan to keep uploading test versions during development so people can test it and give me some feedback.

I have a few ideas in mind but I’m trying not to get attached to any until the theme is announced. I would love to make something with parallel universes or time-travel stuff. It will definitely be a 2D game and I’ll try as hard as possible to be inovative while keeping the simplicity.

I hope we all have a great time developing games or just watching! =)
