So, we are at it again...

I'd like to introduce our team:

@sprotex - Programmer

@hartvichio - art

@sipfindel - SFX and music

A little bit about our process:

Since the theme was uncovered at midnight in our timezone, we got a nice full night sleep and brainstormed the ideas in the morning. We started by opening up a google document and writing down every idea we got for ten minutes. Then we spoke about each of the ideas and had two rounds of voting to eliminate the bad ones. That produced new ideas and we ended up with only two well fleshed out designs to choose from.

Now we're filling up our brand new issue tracking software Ntrack (credits our programmer) with tasks so we won't get lost in the whole project.

Other than that we use: * Aseprite for art * Cubase 10 and sfxr for sounds and music * Godot as our engine of choice * Git for version control

First assets on the way

Dawn of the second day

While we have some time on our hands finishing our morning beverages, let's look back on the first day of the jam.

Our team: @sprotex, @hartvichio, @sipfindel and @wondry debated for what felt like hours about what game to make (well in fact we were talking for about four hours so the hunch was correct). We tried to spend as much time as possible on every idea to see if it's viable or not.

At the end we decided to make a game about a steam roller chasing after unsuspecting grandma while player takes control over her buff grandson whose mission is to slow down the vehicle by any means.

By the end of the day we had a build with really nice movement some assets to please the eye. Gameplay001.gif player.gif

Music is coming together and it's colourful

Currently finished first rough mix and now I need to listen to some silence for a while. Or make some sounds, I don't know. cub.png Unfortunately Cubase won't allow OBS to record sound so here's a Gdrive link

We are live!

We published the game Run Run Granny where you play as a grandson desperately trying to save his Grandma oblivious to the fact that she's chased by a rogue steamroller. It's an endless struggle with only two outcomes: either you or your gran die. Gameplay001.gif

Main Theme is out !!!

Main theme to our game Elephant Egg is out on SoundCloud so go ahead have a listen.

Our is about an elephant mage Elandra who's trying to save her egg in a ruthless and everchanging world. Will you survive long enough to see the hatchling live or will you fail and let the last of your kind become an omelette?

But adverts aside. I wanted to talk a bit about how I approached the music in this game. My role in our team is everything sound related from sound design to music with the music taking most of my time usually. I love writing music but as many creative people I am very self conscious. I let my inner judge take over and paralyze me. This is what happened the last jam we as a team did (GMTK22). I spent 12 straight hours making a lot of music that I was just not satisfied with for the stupidest of reasons like: "it's not complex enough" or "i know I can write something better" and I ended up exhausted and drained even though the music was fine. And so I decided to let go and try and not judge everything I do. My main takeaway here mostly just: have fun with whatever you do. Art being it music, graphics, code should be first and foremost fun so don't spoil it by being a shit friend to yourself.

Packing for yet another jam

This jam decided to try to use more hardware: 20230106_104523.jpg

From the left: Craft Synth 2.0 (since I got it a while back and used it twoce), Zoom H1 for field recording and Sony TCM-20DV voice recorder (that thing is a monster) for some cassette distortion and sound manipulation.

LD52 starts in a few hours and I think once again about what I'll use this time. My role is mostly sound design and music and every jam I try to use some kind of gear, software or process I haven't used much. I don't limit myself however, I usually try it out at first and if it works, I stick with it otherwise I find a different approach that works for the game.

Software

Engine: Godot

DAW: Cubase 10

THEY ARE ALIVE!!!

Our game about Vegan Vince, a fan of mediterranean cuisine and an enemy of GMO. Show them unnatural veggies their rightful place - In The Ground.

Warming up for my first solo jam

Only just came back from a trip to Macedonia and feeling excited about LDjam. Fuelled by new experience and filled to the brim with new memories.

This time however our team decided to change our Modus Operandi and each of us is making their own game. Idealy finishing in time for the Compo. It's going to be way different than usual. At least fro me it's going to be a big change since I'm kinda used to driving my own lane - music and sound design. Let's see what new lesson I'll learn from all this.

I'm also excited about some new Godot 4 features (especially regarding sound)

This years tools:

Engine: Godot 4

Music: Cubase 10 (with loads of plugins I accumulated over the time)

Art: Krita or Aseprite (but I might stick to an art-light game since it's not my forté)

P.S.
