Here comes a new challenger

I’ve been lurking the whole Ludum Dare community for a while, so finally I decided to join the fun and make something awesome(I can’t guaranteed the awesome part). I’m not sure what I’ll be working with, but as soon as I come out with some good game concept I’ll choose a proper language and libraries or even a game making software.

I’m relatively new to programming, I started coding at high school and continue through college, btw I dropped it out a few months ago. Now I make some freelance coding and work in some collaborative game projects :).

I’m visiting my parents for a couple weeks, so expect some traditional mexican food photos or whatever crazy stuff my mother come out with. On the other hand, I won’t have a proper desk photo, even though I’ve kidnapped the dinning room for working. I’m not sure if I’ll be able to work the whole 48 hours, or even finish my game, but I expect this to be a really cool experience.

What is that table cloth made of, human skin?

Intentions

The last time I tried to participate in a Ludum Dare was like a year ago. Unfortunately a relative(not a close one) died and I had to be there to support my family, so I didn’t finish a thing. Anyways, this time I’m planing to make it to the very end >:D. I’ll be using as3/flixel, Paint.NET and milkytracker. I’m not sure about the last one, but if nothing works out I’ll use some samples. I don’t have anything planed so I’ll be writing some code for the dialogs. I think I can work something out…

Good luck and have fun! I can’t wait to play your game.

Inside – update

Oh Crap!!! I forgot I have to be GM this weekend. With this new (6 or 7 hours less) time constraint wrapping up my game seems even harder. I’m definitely using that extra time. Anyways, here’s a screenshot:

The game is supposed to be named Inside(where most of the talk is going on) and is some sort of exploration game where you can see every though of the main character (a pretty thoughtful guy), ramble around and there are some minigames where you can do stuff. Displaying the thought balloons(in the right direction, place and size), in a way that looks nice, has been proved harder than expected, I’m probably changing the way I display dialogs…

Really nice screenshot. Can’t wait to try this.

I’m in #☃ edition.

It’s been a while since I last attempted a Ludum Dare. Given my lack of gamedev output so far this year, this seems like a nice opportunity to make something about it.

I’ll be using:

Haxeflixel for coding.
Paint.NET for art
I’ll probably end up using sounds captured from a mic 😛

I’m kind of indifferent to most of the themes, but I’m guessing the snowman thing is going to win. We’ll see.

I finally have some functionality and a proper idea. Basically you are going to have some bombs and make them explode, but their main function is going to be pushing instead of depleting hp bars(making damage). I’m also thinking of having some attacks(long ranged perhaps) that stun or create similarly impeding conditions. Besides, the non-monster entities are also going to try to push you out of the stage. Speaking of which I have to work on them.

[ ✓ ] Non-monster entities moveset
[ ✓ ] Losing conditions
[ ✓ ] Visuals(as much as I can XD), minus non-monster entities (XD XD)

I doubt I’ll have time to properly design levels, so I’m going to take the score attack route. I also have to make a HUD of sorts, and a menu. Plus, I’m starving :(.

I’m not out

I have a couple of things scheduled for the weekend, but I already got an idea involving both themes. I’m going to start working and see how it goes. In any case, I’m aiming for the jam deadline.

First update

The core mechanic of the game seems to work. It’s a lite-shmup with some color-matching elements. I’ll be out for the rest of the day. Also, a screenshot.

Things were going great but I have to go out for some hours. I doubt I’ll be ready for the compo(or back at all :/), so Jam it will be.
