Teaming up with the 5 time Ludum Dare veteran @trusty with my blender skills to try for a 3d game!

Just thought I'd render out a progress pic of the game models I'm making.

These are probably all the monsters we're going to have time to implement. Pretty excited about how nice the game's graphics look so far.

This was so much work but we have a game I'm proud of now. It's got shooting, a variety of monsters and levels, voice acting, and most importantly it works! I'm the blender guy who made all the graphics so I certainly want to hear everyone's feedback on that, while I stretch my hand that was drawing on a tablet all weekend. So please comment if you play it and let me know.
So here is your main character, Mr. Gun, in all his rendered glory.

Here's how messy some parts look in wireframe, from boolean-ing out the barrel

To animate the slide I parented everything to an empty that can be slid back and forth

First time making a gun in blender and there are plenty of ways I could have made this nicer in the future. Anyway, don't forget to check out our game and see the rest of my modeling! https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/48/the-depths-of-science
So here's one of the main common enemies you'll face while going deeper into the research facility

Originally I sculpted the whole body, then built clothes around it

Unfortunately there were clipping issues when animated where the clothes and skin came through, so given the time limitations, a painful choice was made

But don't worry, shooting her in the chest still hurts, even if there's nothing there
Bonus behind the scenes:

So this was my favorite monster to make because I could really flex my sculpting skills in making a super muscular character, and minimal clothing to get in the way
Pretty high poly in it's original state, the final had to be decimated heavily
I kept it's body split apart to make animating easier, since I knew decimating would make it harder to move the joints nicely if I didn't
Tentacles were made with paths, which I used the geometry tab to create a thickness

Hey all, if you liked my game, or liked the models in my game, I've now posted one free on sketchfab for download. https://sketchfab.com/3d-models/ld-jam-monster-c6590f4620d1473c887d266ff0586583
This is not actually the version that appears in game, I took more time to make it better optimized and use normal maps to keep it to about a 5k poly count. You'll be able to see this version in our post jam release coming soon

Thank you to everyone who played our first 3D game this jam, and everyone who left comments letting us know what we could do better. After weeks of work we've now released a post-jam version with plenty of revisions that you can find on https://trustyshm.itch.io/tdoshd
Trusty made a pretty detailed post about all the changes, most noticeably a major graphics boost and significant improvement in enemy AI. You can find that here https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/48/the-depths-of-science/the-depths-of-science-hd-polished-post-jam-version-now-available-on-itch-io
And of course, a gameplay trailer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J_E6HRidpn4
For my part, I made a redesigned gun with flashlight and clips, which now is reloaded in the game.

Look at that beauty.
I also made some statues for decoration, and light fixtures throughout to make more sense of where the light is coming from in each level. You'll also find some new enemies and surprises that I don't want to spoil.
Coming back with the same teamup as in April. As the 3d modeling part of the team I can show off my progress over the last few months in a very visual way. Here is what I made last time for ldjam

and then here is my most recent character model and some outfits that I made

I have a youtube channel now where I show timelapses of my work and I expect that I'll record and post some videos of my work during LDjam 49 there too.

I'd say it's going pretty well. I made a character who's looks I'm happy with and it's fully rigged with all 4 walking directions and an idle. Bed time now but tomorrow it's time for the environment.

The artwork is basically done for the game now so I thought I'd show off some images of it. These are basically all the game assets being used but in different layouts and combinations. I think this gives an idea of what we're going for on this theme.
I thought it would be cool to record the process of making the game assets that were used in making our game in blender. This is the video from day 1 where I focused on making the main character and animating his walking. I'll also be uploading another video of making the environment and objects.

Your goal, get out without destroying the place.

Hiiiii! If anyone is interested I put up videos of my process of making the 3d assets for my game.

This will be my third time doing a ldjam game, as the 3d modeling side of our team using blender. I'm definitely out of practice with animating though since I usually just make 3d prints.

I made a timelapse after the jam last year, I recorded how I made all my 3d game assets. I think my methods for making a character are likely going to be different this time, I know I lost a ton of time trying to model a body type that I wasn't familiar with making at all, and therefore I went really boring with the clothing. If I compare this to how I currently sculpt characters, I think I'll come up with something much better looking

though who knows, we might not even end up making people, gotta see what the theme is.
