LD14 April 17–20, 2009

If at first you don’t succeed…

Hi All, wow it’s a full version of LD, well I think I’ll just have to dust off my keyboard and give it a whirl!

I’ll be mostly using:

Language: BlitzMax

Platform: Windows

Graphics: Xara, Gimp

Sounds: mostly beeps, or microphone sillyness, no singing I promise!

Note to self get plenty of sleep, walks, fluids and the simpler the better!

Can’t Wait!

I will also be entering this competition for the first time. Can’t wait to start building the game.

Tools i’ll be using :

IDE – Eclipse

Language – Java

Libraries – Slick2D Game Library with the LWJGL Library.

Art – Inkscape

Audio – Audacity

Deployment – Java Web Start, possibly Applet too.

Good Luck ppl and have fun.

This post has a title, honest it does

Hey guys. I see lots of other first-timers here — looks like this is a good year for joining! Well, this will be my first time too, hopefully the first of many.

I heard of LD a few times but I never got round to checking it out. Well, I just randomly thought of it a couple of days ago and it turns out it’s just around the corner. What luck! So I’ve been playing a through some of the previous entries. Favourites so far are the tower defense with the owls, and the one with the robots. Oh, and the one where the aliens spill their purple guts everywhere. (All from the same theme… ‘Tower’ was a winner!)

Probably going to go with Flash for this. I’m usually a C++ or Python guy, but as someone beneath me said, flash is faaaaast.

LD14 – My tools

Well, I’m ready and roaring for a great LD14 weekend. I’m going to break my programming-vacation for 48 hours and have myself at some code.

I’ll be using:

IDE: Code::Blocks
Language: C++
Libraries: SDL, SDL_image, SDL_ttf, and SDL_mixer, all rolled into one big PlatyGame (which I wrote myself), and possibly libcurl if internet is needed.
Art: GIMP and a little Paint.
Audio (if I do any): Musagi, SFXR, and Sound Recorder.

PlatyGame source and object files can be downloaded here:
http://www.platymuus.com/goods/PlatyGame.zip

Also, does anyone have any idea how to cut down on the number of DLLs I need to include with my application?

Yayyy! Hello folks!

Hey there, and greetings to all of you!

This’ll also be my first time joining LD. Quite a few people I know have been participating in LD, and this time, I’ll see what I can manage to do as well!

What I’ll be using (most probably):

– Eclipse with a Ruby plugin, so I’ll code in Ruby

– Flash, Photoshop and/or Paint + my tablet for graphics

– and Gosu (cause Gosu + Ruby is great!)

Have fun people

Hong Kong Ludum Dare

Hooray for me, I’ve managed to finangle myself an extended vacation in Hong Kong. Anyhow I’m going to try and enter this Ludum Dare, though I’m going to be in Macau for the first 12h or so of the compo.

The last few LD48’s I’ve used a basic, minimalist C++ engine and coded the game in LUA. This time I’m going to just code the whole thing in C++, I guess just for a change more than anything. So it’ll be C++, OpenGL, and SDL.

My Special Ludum Dare Goal: Include at least sound effects into this one! I’ve never managed to get SFX/music into an LD48 before, triple shame shame shame on me. Ptoiee fireflower spit spiky ball at my butt!

Woo, somebody else in the same time zone, who’s also doing audio for the first time :)

Hullo LD14!

Looking forward to participating again. Learned a lot from LD10. Hopefully I’ll really finish my game this time.

Gonna be using:

  • Ruby + Gosu + Gosub (http://code.google.com/p/gosub/)
  • or Python + Pyglet, not sure yet
  • sfxr (and musagi if I’m lucky)
  • TileStudio (http://tilestudio.sourceforge.net)
  • GraphicsGale (http://www.humanbalance.net/gale/us/)
Can’t waaait!

LD14 Hi

Hiya everyone =]

I’m about ready to make a game. I just updated my msvc blank project and allegro toolkit at the site where I’m publishing my games: www.originowl.com.

School has kept me very busy, 5 more weeks of math and english and piano and then I’m moving to UC Santa Cruz to do game design. Living on campus in the forest making games all the time, yeah I think I can handle that.

Good luck and love to everyone!

I too shall partake

And I’ll really try to finish something this time.

I’ll be developing with Allegro under Linux on my PIII 933, 512MB RAM, ATI Rage Pro 128. Aw yeah, that’s right… try not to be too intimidated.

My first Ludum Dare

This is my first Ludum Dare and I look forward to it!

For my tools, I’m keeping it simple:

  • Flash/Actionscript using FlashDevelop and the SDK
  • For art I’ll be using Photoshop
  • Audio will be done with sfxr and Audacity
  • I’m using a few libraries such as Casalib and the AS3DS to aid development unless these are not kosher

I’ll try keeping a live blog going from my own blog and hopefully after the 48 hours I’ll be back here with something cool for everyone.

OK, let’s rock this beast!

I’ll throw my hat in again…

Last time I didn’t finish anything to the point that I could submit, but this time… this time it’ll be different.

48 hours… one game.  One laptop on a table just large enough to support it.  One brand new apartment that’s really frosty most times of night.  It’s on.

Is GB coming?  I haven’t seen his declaration post yet.  I still owe him a prize for guessing the theme to my last (failed) entry-in-the-making.

My tools: Vis Studio 2005, Torque 2D, perhaps my own ‘fade’ behavior for said engine just because it’s ridiculous to re-write a ‘fade’ behavior… Photoshop 6.0, possibly a microphone and a handful of Korg toys, a Harman vocal effects doodad, wikipedia, and Lieutenant Dan.

I look forward to the theme and checking out all the entries.

-Tim

I’m in!

Here we go again

Yeey for another Ludum Dare, this is going to be my third one.

No matter what theme, I will use quaternions for something. I never really got around to implementing them in any of my projects, so this is as good time as any to finally grok the whole thing.

Language of choice is C++, SDL and propably SDL_mixer for sounds. And if I have enough time, I’m going to do game logic in Lua.

Good luck to everyone.

Yet Another 1st LD Entry Post

Hi!

This will be my very first LD entry, hopfully I’ll be able to produce something playable and fun by the end of it.

Progress report will be posted at http://tametick.com/blog.

It would be best if you either posted your progress reports here or at least cross post them. Makes it easier for everyone involved to see how you’re doing and look at your progress from when you started. :)

rgrd represent!

I am in too!

After last time which has been a good experience for me, I decided to enter again! I made the 4th place in “Theme”, and I am very proud of that. It was my first ludum dare and my first playable (and winnable!) game ever!

Will use C++ and Gosu like the last time, not screwing around with OpenGL. Well… maybe I will try to implement some shaders if I find the time for that… :) Just hoping for a good theme now :S

Do shaders count as “content”?

Just wondering:

Do HLSL shaders count as “content” (in which case they must be written during the compo) or “part of a graphics library” (in which case they can be written before the compo)?

I would say it is something that counts as library. To be sure add a link to your HLSL-script.

I’ll do that as soon as I’ve written it. 😀 Probably within the next 3-4 hours, actually.

Second Time

So, an another Ludum Dare. Ludum Dare 13 was great; and I am hoping for an another great competition. I will be using Game Maker (which I hate) again; for I think I won’t have much time to finish the game. Ah well, we will see…

My first time

Will probably use:

  • Flex 3/AS3
  • Box2dAS3 for physics
  • as3ds for data structures
  • musagi, sfxr, audacity for sound
  • gimp, paint.net, inkscape for imagery

Hat into the roughly circular blood soaked…

I forgot where I has going with that title.

Third time in LD.

Going to try do something in either.

  • PyGame
  • C++ with PTK & Chipmunk
  • DS Homebrew

I’ll see what the theme is and how much time I have. Looking forward to it.

Third time’s a charm (I hope :P)

This will be my third LD, let’s see if this time I can get to more higher place than previous entries.

This time I’ll try Python+Pyglet.

Good luck to everyone
