New LDJam, kinda the same suggestions

I always try to come up with themes that won't restrict the maker in terms of genre, gameplay, setting etc., but rather give something to get the creativity juices flowing.

This will be my fourth Ludum Dare, as well as my third compo. I had used the same three suggestions for the last three events, but this time I decided to change one of them. I'm very excited!

This darn bug scares me.
Got my suggestions in early this time!
Although I have participated three times, I had yet to submit any themes. So this time I decided I'll give it a try. It ended up being a lot easier to come up with a few themes than I thought it would. I'm not sure how good they are, but they were the best I could come up with.
Anyways, I can't wait for the jam to start!

It's my first time trying this website out. I've seen youtubers like Brackeys and Dani Make games for Ludum Dare so I thought maybe I should try it out. //Stuff I'm currently working on Skelly Ton A highscore based game where you're a giant skeleton destroying towns in a randomly generated world Before the time runs out. did i accidentally create this post...?
This video will let you know how playing games with an analytical mindset can help improve yourself as a game developer, and bring more value to your games. Watch it before LudumDare to give better game reviews to other developers, and improve your own skills while rating games for LudumDare 46!

Hello!
LD46 is just a month away, and with the ongoing pandemic, it might see a sizeable influx of participants. This might be a good opportunity to try and have as many great themes to vote on as possible!
So without further ado, here are 5 guidelines I think would greatly help when coming up with theme ideas: - The shorter, the better. Complex, specific themes restrict creative freedom. Games under such themes tend to be very same-y! Keep it vague! - It's a theme, not a game mechanic! Descriptions of a core mechanic are, in my opinion, the worst kind of theme. Same problem as the above point but worse. Here not only will most games be extremely similar in ideas and gameplay, but even the games that think outside of the box, while they can be very original and fun, will also be restricted in their possibilities. - Don't try to be subversive. Themes like "you are the princess/villain" overpopulate theme votes and tend to be eradicated very fast. Something classic and straightforward works well, after all it's up to the participants to be subversive and surprising! - Avoid memes and politically charged themes, these too, tend to not survive for long. - While the best themes inspire and open up for all sorts of ideas rather than restrict, limitations also bring creativity! Restrictive themes can actually work as long as they are explicit (Only 4 colors, One room, etc).
I sincerely hope this will help you find amazing themes to suggest, and I also hope this semester's theme roster will be good! Take care, don't fall sick, and see you in a month!
Ready for Ludum Dare 46 !

Here in Germany my University shuts down till April 20th so i am definitely in this Time. This is very likely to happen in most other Countries too, so many People who otherwise don't find the Time to participate can finally do so this Ludum Dare.
:notes: Always look on the bright Side of Life... :notes:
...and stay healthy
I made some unoriginal (possibly distasteful?) themes:

Anyway, I'm in for this LD, I've been doing it since I was at least 12, I'm now 20. I've literally grown up with this thing.
Weirdly, the older I get, the shitter I seem to be at working for 48 hours straight, so I'm hoping I can prove to myself that I'm actually better than the 12 year old me...
I'm actually super excited, I've got 31 days to make a rendering engine!!
Anyway, onto my tools!!
GRAPHICS: - Photoshop CS6 / Paint.NET (it'll be pixel art, so it doesn't really matter) - Autodesk Maya / Blender - Autodesk Maya trapped me with their Student Version -_- , and using Blender would require me to learn a WHOOOLEEE new thing, however, would prefer to use actual free software, instead of software that I won't have in two years, because I won't be a student
AUDIO: - SFXR or BFXR or ABCD or whatever it's called (thx to whoever made this tool I actually love you ) - FamiTracker if I get round to music (or maybe Audacity and Equator because I have a fancy keyboard thing).
PROGRAMMING (The bit I'm actually passionate about): - Pure C++ (probably std17 or something). - DirectX12 (YES DIRECTX12 I AM LITERALLY GOING TO DIE, WHILE EVERYONE ELSE IS DRAWING PRETTY PICTURES. I'LL BE SYNCHRONISING THE GPU AND THE CPU). - Various other COM APIs (WinCodecs for Images, XAudio2 for Audio, X3DAudio for 3D XAudio2, Maybe Direct2D unlikely tho) - May use BulletPhysics if it's a physics game, otherwise I'll just use DirectXMath Collision for non-AABB's, or just AABB's.
Can I just make clear, that I don't want to be held to this. If I get up in the morning and realise my insanity, I may well make a game using Godot or somethin'
Also, it is actually impossible to make a game with Direct3D 12 in 48 hours, which is why I am working on essentially a rendering framework at the moment. This is a rendering framework that will be part of the source of my game that will be released to the public (because that's the rules). I do not recommend using my framework, but if someone learns from it, then all is worth it .
LAST BUT NOT LEAST
I made my first LudumDare desktop background, I'm currently on my laptop, so this is done with Paint.NET which is great, but has it's drawbacks, so don't judge too harshly.
Finally, despite my joking about Covid-19, it's just gallows humour, I really hope everyone stays safe and happy, especially in the Ludum Dare community.

Love you all,
Ned
Hello everyone! While we are waiting the upcoming event I present you my Ludum Dare Viewer for Ludum Dare Games.

There is filter by platforms...

...and direct links for each platform in game's card.

You can check games from previous events.
Not sure if I plan to do the JAM or the COMPO just yet but I know I plan to participate.
I will be using Unity3D and GIMP as usual. Possibly MagicaVoxel if I go a 3d route.
I am actively looking for a developer position in either webdev or gamedev so hopefully I can make something stellar to pad that portfolio a bit more.

Greetings from Argentina! Me and my girlfriend are participating for the first time! We hope to learn a lot and have fun during the competition.
Stary healthy, and remember to wash your hands :potable_water:
Some of you may remember The Blue Girl, a game that was a smashing success in Ludum Dare 45 (it ranked in the 800's in six categories, including Overall). Shortly thereafter my team and I made a spin-off called No Holds Barred for the Spooky September 4-Color Jam. Here is a screen shot:
This game is less colorful and more abstract, but it is in the same spirit as its predecessor. If you didn't care for The Blue Girl, you may like this game even less. You can play it here.
