LD 38 April 21–24, 2017

I'm not not in!

Yeah guys! Im in! This is what I'm gonna be using: Engine: Gamemaker or Unity (depends on theme) Graphics: Inkscape, GIMP Sound/Music: BFXR and LMMS are usually my go to software here. I heard about some other programs so I might try something new

Hyped for this jam! Finally a weekend where I am free to participate! Good luck everyone and have fun!

Aloha, humans

I like Ludum Dare and it is good! :dark_sunglasses:

I'm an oldschool LD guy, my first compo was LD8.5. None of my games show up on this newfangled website but you can find most of them here: https://web.archive.org/web/20170815002800/http://ludumdare.com/compo/author/fydo/

I'm in!

Of course I'm in. I've been in since before the date was announced (after I failed the last one :( ) I was just waiting until I could post on the new site of course!

We're in

I'm In (for deffos this time)

I'll be joining LD38 (EDIT: Was LD36 because brain says "SCREW YOU"), possibly with one other guy, and this time, I'm aiming to do the Compo over the jam. I've got simple-ish game ideas for all the possible themes, and I should be able to develop them quickly enough that they could actually be made in time for compo submission.

I'll be using Unity 5, GIMP for textures, Audacity for raw audio work, Caustic 3 and Ableton Live for music, and the code will be put on GitHub.

I'm not _not_ in

Are we just stress-testing the blog posting? I guess so. Anyway, I'm in. :tada:

I am in!

I am super excited that this is going to be my first ever LD, and game jam in general. I am looking forward to seeing what I create and learn during this weekend.

In again!

So this will be my first LD after finally finishing university...so now I have time to do my own stuff during the weekends and also don't have to worry about other things :) Clear schedule and clear mind is the key!

Goals: - Finally make something that is playable and hopefully enjoyable

Plans: - Making a game in Unity - Making a soundtrack in Ableton - Creating art in Belnder and Paint.net (I really should learn to use some proper 2d tool) - Listening to Darren Korb while doing so - Going to dance class - Having dinner with a friend - Sleeping enough - Avoiding dehydration

The theme lineup doesn't look that bad but, as always, could be better :D Let's see how it will turn out. Good luck everyone!

I'm in!

Actually starting early tomorrow, I just wanted to come by and say hi and share some things about my project settings!

Game Engine: Unity 5.5
Language: C#
Editor: Visual Studio 2015
Graphics: Gimp 2.8.2

I'm In!!

This is my first Ludum Dare, really exited. :stuckouttongueclosedeyes:

I'm In! (Because Of Course I Am)

Already had this on the old site, but hey, new site means new post, and I'm still in. Got a team of four together, ready to rock and roll.

Using Unity (with the Game Jam Menu Template), Paint.NET, Blender, Audacity, and who knows what else.

Time to jam! \o/

I'm In

Hello!!

First year livestreaming my efforts over at https://www.twitch.tv/st_chappers (starting about 30 minutes before LD38 begins :D )

Here are the tools!

Game Engine: UE4 Art: Maya/Photoshop/Substance Sound: Garageband/sfxr/audacity Design: A billion books and pens

First time participating in Ludum Dare, but long time observer and happy player of games. Good luck to all!

Let's do this!

:rocket:

Can't wait to get started, I will be using Java, LibGDX, Tiled, OpenMPT, Ableton Live & Photoshop.

Here's my framework/base code: https://github.com/berkano/katsu

Awesome work on the new website, PoV... looking forward to seeing the features roll out!

Good luck everybody!! :nerd:

I'm in!

Let's hope this whole new website stuff doesn't confuse me too much, it's very pretty but very different! I'll be using Unity, Paint.Net, maybe some p5.js for some generative art, Audacity, and maybe BFXR for audio

I'm In

This will be my first Ludum Dare event. Good luck and have a great time!

Oh heck yes

LD38 is going to be great - looking forward to it :)

I'm In.

I have been waiting for this! Whoop! I'm in, despite how worryingly close exams are. Tools: - C# - Monogame - Visual studio - Music tools (hopefully)

Good luck all!

What sleep?

Ready to jam with the new site. We made tons of pizza and there's still time for 4 hour sleep in theory... Glad to see the page finally starting to be functional!

They call me Mr. In

I managed to complete my first Dare, failed to finish the second, and am curious as to which side I’ll fall on this time out.

Godspeed gamejammers! May your minds be full of inspiration and your mugs full of caffeine!

Let the games begin!

I've already proposed intent on the old site, but I'l go ahead and do it here too! I'm getting married next week, but that won't stop me from participating this time around. I actually like all the potential final-round themes and I'm excited to see which one to draw inspiration from.

Here's hoping for unparalleled motivation and inspiration to all!

I might be in...

I've got a lot of work to do, some reviews and refactoring. If some time (and inspiration) appears, I might take part in it.

Will probably use GameMaker or Clickteam Fusion, if I take part, since I didn't have much time to gamedev since I've started on my new job! :fearful: With the usual FL Studio, Wavosaur, Ampkit (iPad 2), ASEPrite, PyxelEdit and Affinity Designer/Photo for whatever.

Still, good luck for everyone taking (or not) part in this! :v:

I'm almost in

True! :owl: <- it's a pigeon

I'm in

Finally another Ludum Dare, good luck to everyone participating!

Register?

Hi, do I have to sign somewhere up, or just have to upload the game as it was on the old site?

First time doing Ludum Dare!

Hey there!

My name is Luke and it's my first time doing LD.

I'm a software developer from Argentina who has always wanted to dabble into game development. I finally pulled the trigger last January and participated in the Global Game Jam, and it was one of the most rewarding experiences I've ever had. I am finally making the plunge and trying to commit my work to making videogames. This is a competition against myself, to learn new skills and get something done!

Thank you Ludum Dare for giving everyone the opportunity to do something like this.

I am in

I am in boys! Hoping to create something different then a walking simulator this time. Maybe even include some real music. But I still dont know how to create it so thats probably not gonna happen. I am going to use Unity, Photoshop, Blender(?) and maybe Bosca Ceoil. I am so hyped :).

I had to skip LD entirely last year and now I want to start with something new. Previously I used Java-/CoffeeScript along with plain HTML5 canvas and Phaser.js as well as Haxe with OpenFL. This time I want to focus more on the game design and less on the code so I'm going to use the Godot engine.

Good luck everyone.

Tips on Having a Balanced Jam

Hi everyone, I'm excited for tonight! If you're interested in some tricks I use to keep myself from getting run down during a jam, I wrote up some tips on my blog :-)

Take a look!

Have a great jam, y'all!

LD First Timer

I will be writing my game using the new Defold engine.

We're IN

Apostate Games is in for our first jam as a team. Nathan Hicks has competed on past teams but will be joined by Jason Varnell this year represented as our new company.

We will be using Clickteam Fusion 2.5 for this jam. Already got a menu system in place with custom keymapping which we will be making available as a tutorial file once the jam is over.

Good luck to every one and can't wait to see some of the submissions!

4 years in the making...

Hello ludum darers, I am in for the compo, this is my second LD ever, after a 1st failed one 4 years ago. I will be using: - Unity - Blender3d - Visual Studio - Paint.net - Audiotool, audacity for any music & sound editing.

I am 4 years wiser, with 4 years more experience, hopefully this time I will make it till the end. But this time I have my almost 4 year old son for motivation :hugging:

Good Luck everyone and don't forget to sleep, eat healthy and have some fun :hearteyescat:

Four hours before LD #38 - what to do?

Oh dear, less than four hours until the contest starts... what should I do until then? Learn a new development system? Quickly implementing a game for warmup? Learn to play piano?

Ok, I'll just have a beer and calm down :-)

I'm in!

Well, my base framework I was going to use isn't even close to being ready, and all of the code is a complete mess...

But anyway, I'll be using - IDE: Kode Studio (VS Code fork) - Framework: This mess based on Kha - Language: Haxe - Graphics: I'll think about that when I manage to extinguish the fires - Audio: Same...

Hope y'all are better prepared than me. Good luck!

I'm in!

First Ludum Dare Jam!! I will be using Unity 5 and Javascript for most of my work, along with some default assets from Unity 5! Good luck to all, and may the odds EVER be in your favor!

In for number nine, but realtime or turn-based?

I'm in!

Tooling:

Engine: Unity

Art: I'm a convert; I switched from pixel art to vector art in Inkscape and I haven't gone back.

Sound: I've tried a few workflows, but these days it's Reaper, VSTi synths, and Audacity. Plus a mini MIDI controller.

I'm less sure about my base code.

I have three options:

  1. My original arcade-style base code, which I used for my first 7 LDs.
  2. My turn-based starter kit which I used last time, and in the 7DRL. But I just made two hex-based turn-based games. I feel I have a lot more to say in that space, but part of me wants to mix it up.
  3. A brand spanking new un-tested code base, meant as a complete replacement for #1.

I usually know at least whether I want to be realtime or turn-based before going in! But this time I'm going to wait to see the theme, and leave my mind open to both approaches.

I'm in!

2nd Ludum Dare, good luck everybody!

Ooooh fancy new site! :D

Isn't it all nice and shiny. Wonder if we'll get three overall winners again like last time? :D :D :D

Remember everyone, have fun, lose sleep and make some excuse my language damn fine games!

Good lucks! ^-^

First time in Ludum Dare!

We're in! Myself, @midup and @jnr are ready for our first Ludum Dare! Let's go! :sunglasses:

I'm In

I think this will be something like LD #12 for me. My goal is to finish on time for the second time ever, and do the 48h compo for the first time ever. My previous games are here: http://ludumdare.com/compo/author/Jedi/ I can't reuse my old name on the new site for some reason.

I'm so busy with school, I might only have a few hours to dedicate to jamming, but I'm determined to make something by keeping my scope small. I hate that I started missing Ludum Dares after I enrolled in college.

I'll be using: - Unreal Engine 4 (I'm still learning it but I want to take a break from Unity) - Blender (I never knew it well) - Paint.net - Bfxr - Not sure what else

I wish you all a happy jam!

First Participation

Hello everyone !

This Jam will be my first participation so I hope to succeed in finishing a game :D

Wish you all a good Jam, and don’t forget to have fun :)

I’ll use Java and Slick2D as I’m pretty casual with game-making for the moment !

I'm In!

This LD crept up on me, but I managed to finish a backlog of work and make some time to participate!

I'm going to be using TypeScript + HTML5 with a little starter-kit I whipped up for this jam (And future ones). You can find it on GitHub: https://github.com/64Mega/GameJamStarterKit

Very bare bones, mostly handles asset loading, canvas manipulation, simple audio and basic keyboard input.

List of tools I'll be using:

  • Code Editor: Visual Studio Code
  • Language: TypeScript
  • Build System: NPM/Webpack
  • Artwork: Aseprite
  • Sounds/Music BFXR, Famitracker

Will most likely record a timelapse of the entirety of development and upload it along with a postmortem if I happen to finish my game.

Good luck to everybody participating!

Oh Boy, here we go!

This new site is all new-fangly and smells like it just came out of the factory. Though I think it still needs some grease in the joints and polish on the chrome, it will be awesome.

I assume I’ll be using Java and libGDX to make something, since I need to brush up on my Java coding skills.

For the 11th Time, I'm in!

I'm In!

It's my 11th time and this time around I have a solid idea on what I want to attempt regardless of the theme (Though I can fit this idea into most of the final themes ).

Tools of choice:

  • Unity3D
  • Blender3D
  • Mixtikl
  • Bfxr (Think it's that)
  • Affinity Designer
  • JetBrains Rider

So, good luck everyone and have fun!! :sunglasses:

First Timer

I'm so excited for my first Ludem Dare, can't wait to dig my teeth in. Trying out Unity5. Good luck all!

LETSS GOOOO

It's Almost Time!

This is going to be my first Ludum Dare. I decided to do it almost on a whim about two weeks ago and I've been holding in the excitement since!

I've been toying around with Unreal recently but I'm much more familiar with Unity so I'll probably be using that for my engine. My programming art will be made in Photoshop and Blender. I might even make some programmer audio with Audacity.

Waiting for the theme reveal!

Solo Ludum Dare = TheFeels

Going to attempt to push out a game around my work hours this weekend. Using Unity for the engine and Piskel for art assets.

I'm in!

Time to get 3 hours of sleep until it starts.
