I was learned there is jam after 1 day from start and rushed to make something. Having itching give me this idea 😀
CHECH OUT: The Fleas In My Head

Before the theme was even announced I came up with my game name. Recent world events had spawned a meme “The Mother of …”. So I thought it might be fun to have that as a game name.
I have a habit of attempting overly ambitious games for LD, so I guessed it would be quite appropriate for my LD game, no matter what I made (or failed to make) 😛
As usual, I stayed awake for theme announcement, but I went to sleep soon after. In the morning I joined IRC and discussed the theme (and game name) with friends, and the idea which quickly emerged was a literal “Mother” who lives on a “Small World”, who has “All of the games”. That reminded me of mini games, and the famous C64 title “Lazy Jones”.
Because of my participation in One Hour Game Jam, I have good experience churning out mini games in a short space of time, so I had no fear making several such games for a 48/72 hour LD Jam.
So everything seemed to fall in place quickly this time: The design was well formed, it fit my skills and experience, and made use of the game name I was dying to use!
I usually start LD by drawing graphics. And this LD was no exception. I began making a (shared) tile set that I could use in the mini games, and searching the web for inspiration for what the overworld would look like.
Day one was mostly directed at making the overworld, this small planet which would link to the mini games. This was completed on Saturday, along with all the game music and several sound effects.
When I woke up on Sunday I realised I’d probably need the 72 hour Jam to finish. I began by coding the transition between overworld and minigame. Then started designing the mini games: deciding on their (common 20×20) size, the types of games I would have, and drafting out the levels for them all (as 20×20 bitmaps where each pixel is a tile).
In the latter half of the day I began writing the shared code for the minigames, and sucessfully completed 1 mini game with that code, which played correctly, and linked in/out of the overworld correctly.
Progress seemed slow, but I anticipated that adding more games would be faster, because of the shared code. While the progress continued at a relatively slow pace, it accelerated through day three, with the latter half of the mini games being added in the space of 3 hours!
Towards the end of the day I tweaked some of the level designs, because some seemed far too difficult, while others looked a bit untidy. In hindsight the levels feel too easy now, but I think they are enjoyable enough
I attempted adding particle effects, but I didn’t really have time to perfect their appearance, so I ultimately decided to remove them.
And that was my LD weekend. 😀
Game jams is not a best place to show your OOP patterns knowledge. And well, code written on LD has no chance to win «Best Architecture Ever» award. Just look at this God-object class of our Protolife game:

Class with ~1K lines and 26 dependencies? I would have a serious talk with myself about this code.
But good practices still make life easier even if they take longer. This is how we decided to define our micro-buildings. Here is a simple turret:

More powerful turret:

«d» means «blue block», «e» means «yellow block», capitalized letter means «anchor point», e.g. turret muzzle.
Yeah, hardcoding all the coords would be much simpler, but this pattern system allowed us to quickly add new buildings – as fast as we invented them. This part would be first candidate for DRYing – so we DRYed it.

Ever wanted to imagine about small worlds? In Caelium Alpha, you can build an orrery of the planetary system of your dreams.
Please note that the current build of the game has a strange bug where many planets will get plopped at once and cause strange, but cool formations. I intend to fix this in a post-LD version of the game. I’ll also try to add the ability to plop moons, which is not currently available. Thanks for your patience.

also….I’m bad at screenshots! because that’s totally gonna make you want to play the game to say that haha 😀
This is my entry to LDJam 38! Your keyboard is a small world, and these small but energetic puppers love it! Can you keep up with them?

When I try to join jam time was it.

Rushed to draw gameart after saw end time , there are 18 sprites . I searched gameboy colors then watched gimp indexed color tutorial . The game idea come while itching 😀 . I used my old object pooling script. Coding was easy because of game isnt complex and the font isnt mine

I made a post over on LdJam.com when we finished, but forgot to make a post here.
My team and I feel we had quite a successful jam all in all.
Little house of horrors is a game where you explore an “abandoned” mansion to find clues to close the portals before Cthulhu devours our Small World.

You can play it here.
And here is a link to the Jam page where you can get more info
The universe is collapsing. Every lifeform has fled to the last habitable planet… where
Qwer City still stands.
Enjoy this frenetic & frustrating mix of arcade/tower defense.
ALL content was made from scratch, including soundtrack.
For best performance install it, runs slow on Gamejolt.

This is my second game jam, my second game at all !!!. My goal was the same as in the last Ludum Dare, learn, have at the end of the weekend something that I can call MY GAME! and of course, get feedback and comments on my game, and improve thanks to it! I had worked alone in this game, made with Unity and visual Studio for scripts, all “3D Models” are made with Unity basic geometry and sound effects recorded with my phone with no edit (i had help from my girlfriend making noises on the phone).
– Finish another game
– I managed to complete the levels and the amount of powers that i planned from the beginning
– Not much more
– Learn some 3D modeling and Animating (just spheres and squares deformed aren’t that good looking )
– Particles Systems (was my first time working with it)
– General control feeling (Jump Force / Gravity / Speed / Camera Rotation)
– Camera Collision (this was on my “to do” list since friday night )
– Add background sound/music
– Tutorial or In-Game Hints (Some people cant pass some levels / Read Spoiler Section if you get stuck)
– Maybe “Unity terrains” is not the best for platformers
– Planning more time to polish and make game look better (like add more stuff in the scene)
– what more? let me know on Twitter
With judging finally up I’d like to share my game here 😀 Thanks in advance for rating and be sure to also leave a comment so I can check out your game too
Fly through outer space, grab asteroids, make them orbit around you and use them to destroy Planet Desumaton!
Game page (Window and WebGL version available)

Made for the compo jam, GardenGarden is all about managing space, infinitely looping space. Plant seeds, water them, craft plants to get new plants, try to manage your garden and love life!
I wrote a little webapp called LDNotify that uses the new API to check for new comments on your game and creates a desktop notification to let you know if there are any.
It should work in all modern browsers, and Microsoft Edge*. The notifications do not work on mobile, but I don’t think that’s a real use case anyway.
The tab with the page has to be open in the background for notifications to be triggered.
I find it useful while rating other peoples games, maybe you do too
Get it here: LDNotify.timtips.com
*If you are using Microsoft Edge, reload the page after giving the permission for notifications to make it work – even in Edge.
