LD36 August 26–29, 2016

I’m in!

Hello everyone. If everything goes according to plan, I’ll be entering my first ludum dare. Really looking forward to it. I’ve always had a problem with thinking, small so this will be a challenge.

Looking for a Sound Artist for the next LD

Hello everyone !

First : I’m in !

Then, I’m looking for a sound artist to team up with me for the coming Ludum Dare.

I can take care of the graphic and programming part, but musics and sounds… just no.

So, if you’re interested, don’t hide ! =D

Hola, I’m interested! I usually participate by creating a game, but I won’t be this time around, but I’d love to be a part of someone else’s entry.

Hey, Ludum Dare!

that is really nice. We students need these types of discount to be on our budgets. Like i use these Walmart coupons to buy the grocery items and the same site has got more coupon offers to buy other things.

I’m in!

Hello everybody, I’m in yet again! Just like last time, I will be using my own framework for text based games that I made specifically for last LD. I have a modestly sized todo list for the engine that I made last time so there is a lot of room for improvement. However this time I’m trying to document everything so if you want to try something new in LD36, you can find the framework on github.

Anyway, have fun everybody!

P.s. docs should be ready after this weekend :)

Smudge

Color is a dimension. Color is light. At first, Smudge is a pictorial and phonic awareness experience – an artistic work which plunges its audience in a strange aesthetical universe. In light of these considerations, also Smudge is a splatter-platformer-puzzle game in which you must find your way in black rooms – without any light – by projecting paint on walls, floor/roof and interactive artefacts which lead you to the exit. You are blind. Spread colors so as to shape surfaces. Play with perspectives, contours and sounds in order to reach the exit. For a best experience, a headphone is required.

Smudge is on GreenLight. Please support it. Thank you ++

I’m in!

#LD36 looking forward to it. I’ll again be participating in the Compo.

I’ll use my usual selection of tools:

There is however a twist, as i’m migrating my primary workflow to Windows. So:

  • Photoshop or Paint.net instead of Pixelmator;
  • Music Maker Jam instead of Garageband.

I might use some existing code, in particular:

I´m in!

This will be my first Ludum-Dare and I´m really excited for it.

I learned C++ myself at a young age and since then I slowly came into all the different areas of game-development (There aren’t any facilities to learn game-dev from where I come from). Read many books and started with DirectX which gave me basic knowledge of how engine-systems work. After that I found interest in Motion-Graphics and 3D-Simulations.

Learned that time-pressure motivates me and think that Ludum-Dare will be the perfect place for me.

I will use the tools and programs i found and bought over the time: Unity3D Personal, Maya LT,…

I’m out!

No ratings?

I don’t know if you are in the ratings or no-ratings camp, but for me the ratings were the whole point. My goal is to make a game that ranks higher than games I’ve created before. With no ratings, I have almost zero motivation to take part in this. If a handful of people cheated, that only affects the rankings so slightly it makes very little difference (so your game is #332 instead of #315).

It pains me that LD has gathered such momentum, only to risk becoming something I’m no longer interested in. On the other hand I’m happy that now I’ll have 48 hours to spend on something else!

I don’t fault you for not wanting to enter, I too enter to see if I can beat my last game. The only reason I’m going to take part in this one is just so my streak isn’t broken again. I missed out on LD24 back in august of 2012 and I kind of wish I hadn’t. Anyways, hopefully we’ll see you for the next LD in December!

I really like the ratings too, but I still can gauge pretty easily whether or not I’ve improved or not on my own. I’m also competing with a friend for once, so the jam will be pretty new and fun too.

I totally agree. I’m only planning to make a very short game to not break my streak of eight LDs in a row.

Hello,

This will be my first time

Okay, so I’m above beginner level with programming and computers, however in all these years I never really programed anything cool.

So I’m going to try that Ludum Dare, and see if I can produce something. I hesitate between Python and C++, but I guess that will depend not only on the theme, but on what I want to do. Python is simple and straightforward (I’ll use pygame), but with C++ (I’ll probably stick to SDL) you have more control over the game engine… I think ?

I plan to code a few very simple games until the LD come, so I can get ready for it.

If you have any tips for a newcomer, I’m willing to hear them.

Else, I’ll probably see you on the battlefield. May the best win !

I recommend that during the jam you go for polish over content. It makes the game far easier to play, and more enjoyable.

I’m in!

This is my first time taking part in LD.

Developed a few games and a lot of clones for learning. It will be a challenge for me to complete a game in 2 days.

As time limit motivates me to work hard and complete the project, this is the best location for me to participate.

Tools:

Unity3D

Photoshop & After Effects

Blender

For audio, don’t know what will I use. Never done it myself.

We’re In!

Hi there, me and a friend kyle are going to be entering this year both of us for the first time!

I’m planning to do the development, probably in html5 canvas and javascript to allow people to play it in just the browser. I’m a web developer as a day job but don’t have a huge amount of javascript experience so it should be fun to try. I’m going to figure out what libraries I want to use if any this next week.

Kyle will be behind the art, design and sound and is currently planning to make some kind of puzzle game, theme allowing of course.

Wish us luck.

You Probably Will Not See A Submission From Me – Having Friends From Out Of Country Over

Howdy Folks, while I would love to redeem myself after the failure that was Ludum Dare 35 (I was too ambitious). I sadly will not get a chance most likely to do this. On August 20th some friends are coming to visit from outside of the country. It would be pretty tacky if I spent 2-3 of the days they have with us on Ludum Dare 36. So, I will have to opt out of this Ludum Dare. If I do anything, it will be when everyone is asleep, I could maybe get in 8 hours. So depending on the theme, if I can punch something out in 8 or so hours in 3 days I will try. But, no guarantees. I will have to wait for Ludum Dare 37.

Using Java

Wanted to append my I’m In post.

I will be using Java, as opposed to c++, because otherwise I will actually go insane.

Can’t wait.

-Ned

I might be out.

School starts in a week.  DAMMIT TIMING GODS.

Nah, just participate and don’t worry about it. Conditions are rarely ideal for anyone participating in Ludum Dare.

Going 2 make a game (or 2) in 2 days 2?

2 weeks, 2 days, 2 hours, 2 minutes (and maybe 2 seconds) 2 LD #2! (this year’s ;D)

I am in

Hey hey… I am in… and totally human… I have allways been looking up stuff about game development and the Ludum dare seemed so out of reach… I have never finished a game… tried stuff… never amounted in anything… but I guess you gotta start somewhere… I hope I looked up enough stuff to get at least something going… still can though during the ld right? I’ll probably attend the practice weekend, one week before the actual jam -> this weekend… I am going to try it in Java, I am going to do all the Art in Piskel… IF I ever get to implement the art… then its going to be all harcoded… I am planing a simple canvas (JPanel, JFrame) set up… got something lying around… It had been a long time without coding when I slapped it together…  I do not know if it is working because I got sidetracked… time to revisit it! In any case… it is already well over bed time here, so you have a good night!

Oh yeah one question: Can I copy code from a website? Does that disqualify me from the Compo? Its just a class that allows me to load and play music asynchronisly and in a very easy way… planning on doing the music hardcoded, so… yeah, anyways heres the link: http://www.anyexample.com/programming/java/java_play_wav_sound_file.xml

Thanks… sry for not checking… and thanks for not noticing that the actual jam before the ACTUAL jam is next week… I think I will be using gimp too… just to organize the sprite atlas and texture maps… oh yeah and create .ppm files as their native to java and help me create the levels intuitively and keep them seperated from the code… either way it will be a lot of work! Thanks for the incuragement… I am still figuring this WordPress thing out…

Hopefully, I’m in!

Hello all!

I’m back. And currently panicking because in a week my A level results are in, and they will determine the rest of my life, including whether or not I go to Uni.

Fears aside, I’m doing well. Super happy with my last result, and I doubt this time will top it, because for the first time in the, what, five LDs I’ve participated in? I’m not going to be using GameMaker !

Still using Paint.NET and BFXR, in all likelihood, but…

I’ve used what little time I’ve had this summer to learn some Unity! And not very much of it, so it’s going to be a real challenge to get anything made at all, but I am so looking forward to it.
It just now occurs to me that I haven’t even looked at the 2D aspect of Unity, which I really should do, because I don’t intend on making a 3D game…

Welp, I’ve got to go do that now! See you guys soon!

Hey you!

With you being new to Unity and all, would you want to team up or anything? It’s me and a composer/possible artist so far. I’m gonna be using Unity, and we have Unity Collaborate, which allows for much easier cooperation. I already sent you a message on Twitch with instructions to get a hold of me, for if you are interested.

IM IN

And for gods sakes Ill stay that way, provided someone in my family doesnt come down with pneumonia again or my computer decides to die.Idk im using gamemaker, beep box for music and piskel for graphics.

I’m in, again

I will be using Game Maker: Studio, I recently got into it, I was thinking about using Java or maybe C++ but I decided I will go with Game Maker this year.
