LD32 April 17–20, 2015

I’m in!

Hi!

It’s been a while since I have done a LD, the last one I did was LD25 (before that I did 22 and 23).
I want to give it a go again!

My tools will likely be:
VS2013 (C++)
SFML
Possibly my 3D engine, Deferred3D
Blender
SFXR
Gimp

If I go for 3D (depending on the theme), I will probably use my 3D engine (beauty shot incoming!)

Deferred3D

If I go for 2D, I might use my lighting system, Let There Be Light 2:

Round 3 Winners and Nahs

Round 3 winners and nahs

Round 3 winners and nahs

An Unconventional Weapon – Shooting enemies with toasters? Tube socks? Nah.

Beautiful monsters – This isn’t a game concept

Butterfly effect – I can imagine some in-game situation where choosing to do side options can affect the course of the game. I can also imagine a sim-like game where taking care of an environment yeilds monsters with various health and effects that can wonder into other areas and modify them as well. Kind of like an evolution-based game where the goal is to have a thriving eco-system much like the opposite goal of Pandemic.

Captive – I wasn’t sure of this theme idea at first, but I can come up with many escape game ideas from this one.

Dimensions – Too much freedom. Nah.

Discovery – Generated maps would be cool.

Distorted – Distorted what? This is an adjective, not a theme.

Food Chain – I love the idea of anything bigger gobbling up something smaller.

Hide From the Night – Don’t tell me what to do.

Illusion – I cannot easily come up with a game idea with this concept

Indirect Control – If I wanted to be in control, the last way I’d find the most efficiently way to be in control is to be indirect about it.

Metamorphosis – I like growing/evolving creatures and the like.

Negative Space – This is a term an artist would use. I don’t think I can use it for a game concept.

Shrinking World – Doesn’t immediately sound fun. Perhaps for a multiplayer game though? Now that I think of it that way, I wish I could have made it neutral.

Simplicity – Nah

Take One, Leave The Rest – A player chooses one item or character of many and has to play through the game with their choice. I like this idea.

There is No Right – I came here to make games, not become existential.

Time Loop – Nah

Where No Man Has Gone Before – That’s just sexist #feminism

You made me change my mind on “Take One, Leave The Rest”, that sounds pretty fun.

I think that “There is No Right” could be interesting, by only allowing the player to go left.

oh hai

I guess I’m supposed to make a post to get my user page created or something.  I am a bit confused by this.

Im in

going to try again this year,

unity3d

fl studio

Ludum Dare – Let’s make this official!

I’m in! This will be my second Ludum Dare.

Tools:

  • Game Maker
  • Photoshop
  • sfxr
  • inudge (maybe)
  • Watercolor paints, paper and brushes

I’m not sure what the theme is but I was thinking it’d be really cool to make the art in watercolor!  Here’s a piece I made a few weeks ago (if I do the game art in watercolor I’ll do a time-lapse of that, too)!

You’re an amazing artist! Can’t wait to see what you come up with!

I’m considering going with watercolors for this game as well, so I’m happy to see I’m not alone here. I’ll definitely be checking your entry out.

I’m in… as part of a team!

I’ll be joining team IBM for this one! Not the company IBM, but the Ludum Dare team IBM, not affiliated with the IBM corporation. Let’s do this!

I’m in

This is going to be my first Ludum Dare. I’m so excited. I’m going to be using unity, inkscape and bfxer.

We’re in!

We’ll be doing the JAM as a team, but apart from being 6 people we’ll be playing by the solo rules.

It’s a cooperation between Cirqle and Qasa.

IBM stands for IBM Bad Manners.

Let’s rock!

I’m in

I guess i’ll try and see what happens, this is my first full Ludum Dare

-with Game Maker Studio

Count Me In!

Cool track!

Spinning cube! I mean, I’m in

Behold my amazing spinning cube!

cube

This is from my base code, using Three.js and can be found here on GitHub (until I rename the repository to whatever my game’s name is going to be).

My previous games were all 2D, done with hand-rolled engines of various degrees of sophistication. None of them came close to the power of Three.js.

I’m hoping I’ll be able to make an actual 3D game this time, but because I haven’t used Blender in over five years, it’ll probably be mostly cubes, spheres and octahedrons. (Mmm, octahedrons.) But with fog and DoF and god rays and all the other bells and whistles that Three.js offers, I bet I can make it look good.

Complete tool suite:

  • Typescript. Seeing compile errors as soon as you save the file will be a huge time saver.
  • Three.js, as mentioned.
  • Howler.js for playing sound effects. Or I might use a Three.js plugin for 3D audio.
  • jfxr for creating sound effects. Or I might yell/burp/fart into a microphone.
  • Inkscape for vector graphics, if I want them.
  • Krita for artsy graphics, if I want them. I’m somewhat new to Krita, but it seems to resemble Photoshop closely enough that I can figure it out.
  • vim.

Round 3

Another set of ideas has appeared :)

  • Discovery
  • Food Chain
  • Indirect Control
  • Metamorphosis
  • Shrinking World
  • Simplicity
  • Symmetry
  • Where no man has gone before

I’m in

Not my first Ludum Dare, but this will be the first time I’ll submit my game to be voted upon.

Tools:

I haven’t made up my mind for what to do in the sound department yet. Currently I’m looking at jfxr to fill this roll.

I’m in..

Okay so this will end up being my second attempt at Ludum Dare.  My first attempt was for the “Under the surface” theme where I created an endless runner where you played as a hell hound who dove into the ground to avoid obstacles.  Needless to say, it was a complete failure.  It was playable but the project itself was easily abandoned.  “This” time however I’m coming out more refreshed and ready. I participated in the weekend warm-up which turned out to be a success for me even though I don’t quite have a finished game.  I produced something that I am proud of and will be uploading it before the end of the week.  I’ll edit this when I get home from work so I can give you all a sneak peak.

On to this weekend.

The Tools I will be using are:

– FlashDevelop

– Adobe Flash

– bfxr

– inudge(if I have time)

Here is the thing.  I’m not doing this to race against the clock this time I am going to make small achievable goals and stick to them.  First I will come up with a concept.  Following that I will come up with all things that would be required to make said concept work. (I’m going to be brutal and make this as small a list as possible) Next I will probably code a simple framework and then I will make art assets as I go a long to keep me inspired.  Once I have a playable platform I will move onto menus(probably start/restart) to begin with.  If I can do all that I will move onto sound with the bfxr. (I love that tool) If I can finish the sounds I will more than likely work on more assets long before I get to making a sound track for the game.  (post compo?)

I wish you all the best of luck in achieving your goals.  To the victor goes the spoils.

“in” is just a concept.

I’m in“. But IN what?

In the Ludum Dare? How could I be IN something that doesn’t have a physical form?

The question is not if I’m IN, it’s if I’m joININg.

Now that I have your attention, and that the ADD kicked in, I can safely say…

I’M IN!

As usual, I’ll try my best to work on a game (last time my pc catched fire, literally). I’ll be using GameMaker: Studio as usual (except for the first time I ever joined, when I used GameMaker 8).

Actually, I’m trying to fix my custom Java engine, because it has problems loading resources after compiling. If I am able to fix it before the jam, I can use it 😀

On the other hand, I’m trying to keep my mind on the main project I currently work on (because I tend to get extremely weak against by the Idea Fairy pokémon type), and I’m also voting the themes that have to do with it.

Not because it’s bad to have other ideas, but trust me, f you’re me, you know how it feels, when you have TONS of ideas. Billions and billions.

Also, tomorrow (the 14th) I have a regional selection for the IT olympics. If I pass it (which I probably won’t, because I don’t even know how to open a file in c++, which is the required language) I’ll go to the national selections and if I’m lucky, world olympics. No, I’m not kidding.

But I probably won’t pass, so it’s not a thing I’m really caring about 😛

Well, now I have to sleep. Bye! :3

Quick edit: I’m agoraphobic, aka I fear large open spaces and big crowds (15+ people are already too much).

That’s not gonna help me tomorrow :/

Second edit: I forgot. I’ll be doing everything as usual. Graphics, sfx, coding, music. All by myself. I’m decent at pixel art (CLICK), meh at music (CLICK), and well, I’m (almost) joining the programming olympics :3

I’ll be using paint.net and Famitracker as usual. Maybe I’ll use Audacity for the sfx, but I tend to use ft for those too, lately, just to stay in a famicom style.

I’m in

This is my first Ludum Dare Jam, and I’m currently geathering my team.

I’m super-duper excited.

My tools:

  • Unity 5
  • Visual C# ’13
  • Paint.NET
  • bfxr
  • Audacity
  • Nice people from around the Internet
  • Pizza
  • Tea

Help me out

Hey I’m new to this and want to figure some things out before this happens.

When we need to link the game does it mean put the game on a website then link it?

And does making everything include not being able to use the premade assets for something like unity?

Thank you for the help

Yes. Either a file to the game download, or a site posting your game. When you submit, you submit a link. (See some of the entries from the earlier LD’s for reference)

You can just upload the game on dropbox and link to it.
