Hi fellow game developpers, I’ll maybe participate for this LD for the first time.

I’m a Game Design student and coder also, so the graphics will be code-generated for sure ! 😀

My setup :

  • Framework: My own engine (core & tools)
  • Language: C#
  • IDE: Visual Studio 2012
  • Graphics: PS/AI CS6
  • Hardware : My old laptop :(

Hope I’ll can get something finished, and good luck to everyone !

I’m in… again!

This will be my second LD48 attempt — hoorah!

I will live-blog again on my website, smashware.com, and you can follow me on twitter @voidqk.

I would like to use Unity… but I will probably end up using JavaScript and Canvas, since I can work faster.  We’ll see :-).

Good luck, all!

So yeah, me and a friend’s gonna bunk up together at one of our places and get totally cracking at this next weekend!

Tools I’m planning to use: Unity, Visual Studio, Maya and Photoshop.

I got a quite ambitious idea in my head, and we’ll see how it turnes out (or how the theme will change the starting point I got so far)

Will document the progress using Chronolapse.

I’m in! Ludum Dare 29

Hi. It’s the first time I join #LD48.

I will be using the following:

  • Language: Haxe
  • Framework: OpenFL, HaxeFlixel
  • Editor: Sublime Text 3
  • Graphics: Photoshop CC, GIMP, Inkscape, CLIP STUDIO PAINT PRO, Blender
  • Sound: FL Studio 11

Hi everyone,

This is my first LD. I have a feeling it’s going to be fun. :-)
My tools: Unity3D, C#, Gimp,  Audacity. Consumables: pen and paper for taking notes, lots of post-its for keeping things organized, and something like a metric ton of butter cookies and chocolate to fuel my brain (sadly, I can’t drink coffee).

I’ve had a hand in a few games in the past, but it will be interesting to see if I can actually build something complete in just 48 hours. My background is in design, and I’m also a half-decent programmer, but graphics are going to be, erm… placeholder-ish.

I’m not going to use pre-existing code or assets, but I’m hoping to try out some ideas for programming patterns. If they work well, they may become a (shared) resource for future LDs.

Can’t wait to play all the games!

Coding Question

They say we have to include the source code, but I’m working in Multimedia Fusion 2, which has a visual coding system. Is there a way around this or a way I can get to a source code in mmf2?

I’m a newcomer, so please take it with a grain of salt, but “source code” is basically just an arbitrary, human-readable representation of the actual program that the compiler is supposed to generate. So in your case a file (or set of files) that contains all your scripts and can be opened in the free version of Multimedia Fusion 2 is your “source code”, even if the file is binary and not text. The point is that someone can use that file (or files) to read your scripts, modify them, and/or reuse them.

Source doesn’t literally mean code. I believe project file is good enough if your software doesn’t encrypt or obfuscates the contents.

There are several environments where the “source” is more configuration and less code (Unity, Gamemaker, Stencyl). Just zip up your project folder, whatever is needed for someone to build your game, and that should suffice.

We’re doing it!

Hey all, it’s A-bomb of A-bomb and ya Bois comin at you right here, right now!

Let’s not do that. Anyway, me and two friends are participating in the jam! Here’s an overview of the tools we’ll be using:

Language: Python

Engine: Pygame

Code Editor: Sublime Text 3

Distribution: Windows exe, Pygame source

Graphics: Gimp, Photoshop

Sound: Audacity, SFXR, Ableton Live, FL studio

Hardware: Two of us are bringing in desktops, one member is bringing in a laptop

Recording: Timelapses on all screens, overhead video timelapse of the three of us, intermittent videos

Either way it’s gunna be great. Be very scared, everyone.

The OPifex team has been working on a gaming engine for the past year that I’m putting to use in the competition.

To comply with the rules, I’m putting the engine in its current form into the public domain. All binaries, header files, etc are available for anyone to use during the competition.

OPifex Engine Release 0.1

To get an understanding of the engine you can check out the following blog posts which cover its functionality:

I don’t really think this is in the spirit of the Ludum Dare Compo.
21. Apr 2014 · 00:49 UTC
I was under the impression that it would be considered a personal library:

“* Base code and personal code libraries are allowed, but should be declared and shared with the community prior to beginning your entry. To do this, make a blog post.”

Team Up For The LD Jam

Hey, Ludum Dare is coming up, and some people are more interested in jams than compos. I would like to team up with anyone who have and knows about the following so that we could make an awesome game together:
Software-Macromedia Flash/Adobe Flash
Language-AS2 (ActionScript2)
I currently do not know what is the Theme for Ludum Dare, so I’m trying to get a group so we can be ready by the time it begins. I would like someone who knows how to do make music to make it for the game, and I would like people who could do really good art to do the animations and art style, as well as songs for the animations. I would also like more Programmers who know ActionScript 2, to help out with the game-making becuase that’d make it easier and faster. I would like people who are willing to do these things for free because Ludum Dare is just a fun and free site, so making the games are all for fun and experience. If you are doing the Ludum Dare and using the ActionScript2 language, and want to work in a group, or know how to make music and animations and programme, and want to work in a group, or just a random fella out there that read this and want to help out for free, contact me at danidre14@gmail.com . Ludum dare starts in a week so lets all get this settled and not wait until last minute. If you do not know about Ludum Dare, check it out here: http://www.ludumdare.com/ . To get more information click on compo and read through of if you’re to lazy copy amd go to this link here: http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/rules/ . I hope some people or at least one person is interested in this and please contact me before last minute.

I’m in (probably)

This is going to be my second Ludum Dare, but I kind of failed last time – didn’t really finish it in time, and the idea wasn’t that good either. I hope that I will do better this year, because, in my opinion, I didn’t finish the last one becyse of lack of experience/practise. I have been learning a lot lately, so I hope I’ll do better.

Tools used:

  • Unity
  • GIMP
  • BFXR
  • Audacity
  • Autodesk Maya

Maybe a friend of mine will be helping me with textures/graphics/ideas, maybe I won’t be even participating, because I have a lot of things to do for school (scientific research + a few art projects), so I might be busy that weekend.

In?

So if I have time, I’m in, though it may conflict with my school schedule. But I really hope not because I love doing the Ludum Dare.

Anyway,  this would be my second time participating in a LudumDare event (last being LD27)  and  look forward to seeing everyone else’s awesome and inspiring games! 😀

  • Language: C#
  • Framework: .NET & XNA 4.0
  • Tools: Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Express, Paint.NET, Audacity
  • Fuel: Coffee
  • Sleep: NONE.

Tools…Tools everywhere!

Hello everyone! I don’t know about you, but I absolutely LOVE  the weeks before each dare. Why? Because I get to learn about all these new programs and tools! I have compiled a list of some tools. Some are popular, and some not so much. Do you want to know the best part? They are all 100% FREE!!! Isn’t that great? There is one problem though… I just got the idea to compile this list, so I’m lacking a bunch of programs :(. So if you know / have made any free tools that would be useful to the development of games, please feel free to comment them! So, here it is:

Ludum Dare Engine Tested and Ready!

The Ludum Dare Engine a 3 day project has been complete! The engine was tested in a short testing of graphics and updating systems.

The engine can be found here: Aestrocorp temporary website :: the file is at the bottom of the page. Feel free to vote what I should make next! Enjoy!

Please read the license: GPLv2

Warning!: Do NOT use the LDListener (LDListener is the KeyListener)! Feel free to use any other parts of the engine.

I am in the 4′ time

Hello everyone, I’m in the 4′ time (90% sure) and I’m going to use

*Sound Recorder + Finale + Audacity (For the music)

*Paint (For the (very few) graphics)

*Stencyl (For the actual game making)

A better go this time.

So, this is my 5 attempt, and will hopefully be my fourth game submitted for LD!

Last time, I didn’t finish my game Naught in time (or ever), and that was a big blow to me. However, I’ll talk more about that in the other post that I do every LD, the “What I learned” post.

Regardless, my tools:

Code: As always, I could whip out the good old Python 2.7 and Pygame 1.9.1. However, I’ve felt somewhat awkward using Pygame lately, because I’ve learned that Python kind of sucks for games. However, I’m not completely casting it out of the realms of possibility. There is a higher chance that I’ll make a text-based Python game though, because I’ve been messing around for the last week, working on a text-based engine. That’ll be my warm-up game, once I feel good about it (and it’s stable).

Another big possibility is JavaScript. I’ve made JavaScript choose-your-own-adventure games before for LD, and I’ve refined the engine since then. It’s good. I’ll release that soon enough for all the fellow Ludum Darers to use. :)

Lastly, and probably most remotely, is Unity. I’ve been working in Unity (C# dialect) for several months for an internship, but I have an iffy relationship with it. Last LD I tried using it, and that didn’t work so successfully. If I do use it, it will not be a first-person game. I can tell you that much.

Graphics: Like always, I will probably be using Photoshop CS2 for my graphics.

Music: So many choices! I can use Audacity, Anvil Studio, Audiotool, FamiTracker, or just play instruments for music. It all depends on what the game calls for!

Fonts: I make fonts! I use a nice website called FontStruct that can help me. Otherwise, Dafont is a nice website as well.

Hoping to do better this time. I’m keeping my hopes up!

Participating for a third time

Perhaps I’ll make a finished product this time. I have a pixel artist but our timezones are the complete opposite so I’m still debating whether or not I should do the jam with her.

Language: Dart
IDE: Dart Editor
Libraries: Probably none
Music: Pixitracker or Sunvox (or Abundant-Music.com if I run out of time)
Sounds: Either BFXR or I had a thought about making the sounds with my voice, could be fun
Graphics: (if not doing the jam) Pyxel Edit
Extra: Coffee, etc.

Working with someone in a different location certainly has its difficulties, but they can be overcome. Usually you only figure out how to deal with it after you go through it a few times. I’d recommend doing it and then you’ll be be able to work with offsite folks much easier in the future.
