In Like a Lion

I’ll be LD-ing as long as my wife and kids will let me and I’ll be tacking together my usual assortment if I need them:

3rd party libs:
SDL, SDL_image, SDL_ttf, SDL_mixer
OpenGL
Box2d

My libs:
SprigGRO_guiNFont, JEL-events, SDL_ColorDef, StickyInput, goodIO, MixBox
OpenGL junk

Tools:
sfxr
the GIMP

Best of luck to everyone!

I like your setup. Quite a large base of good code for you to build on. Look forward to seeing what you can do with it.

Hiya!

My first Ludum Dare…

So bored from Javascript, PHP and CSS, I was looking for something different. Sadly I don’t have experience and I didn’t had time to checkout a few basic things like implementing simple physics.

At least I can use Python and coded pygame stuff before… I’ll also use GIMP.. No sfx or music, at best I can use a mic and audacity for real life sfx.

I don’t think I’ll be able to produce something decent. Looks like I won’t be able to dedicate enough time this weekend. But at least I hope to start learning programming stuff like this so that I will be able to make something decent next time. In any case it will be a good distraction from what I have been working on lately…

Time to Shine

  • Or to burrow, as the case may be.
  • My announcement post is in list format.
  • I am going to be using the following tools:
    • Python
    • PyGame
    • GIMP
    • Probably will write some crappy chiptunes on some combination of defunct software/hardware
    • Energy Drinks
    • Nicotine
    • Frequent cursing
  • Here is a picture of my desktop:
  • 102_5817
  • Enjoy LD and have fun everyone!

Another entry

Hi again!

My second time fpr this compo – hopefully I can turn out somthing a little more consistent this time. 😉

Tools will be construct, the gimp, sfxr, audacity.

My time might be a little limited on saturday, but I should have the whole sunday at my disposal.

Good luck!

Getting ready

I intend to take part in LD15 and get a game finished in time! So far it looks like I’ll be home most of the weekend so that’s great. Just one little concert tomorrow.

I plan to make a Flash game using haXe and I’ll probably use (some of) my base code which I’ve published before. I just updated it to version 1.2, you can find it here: http://www.wieringsoftware.nl/ld/HaxeBaseCode-1.2.zip (I have a blog post about it here, but unfortunately the WordPress plugin I used to embed swf’s no longer works so you can’t see the demo).

Depending on the theme and what I can come up with, I might use Physaxe or try something 3D with Sandy.

Good luck everyone!

Ludum Dare 15 Theme Announcement

The theme for Ludum Dare 15 is…

Caverns

Go!

SFML and AntTweakBar

I couldn’t find any ready-made function for connecting sfml and AntTweakBar so I made one. Somewhat ported from the sdl source, and I figured I’d post it here since someone might want to use it.

SfmlHandle(), line 40(currently) in this file. It is currently kinda hacked together so it doesn’t support scrolling or text-input (yet), but it’s better than nothing :)

Double Dare!

Hopefully I can find time to participate in this competition.  It will be my second time being involved(participated in #14).  Supposedly there are social events I am expected to attend over the weekend, but we’ll see how that turns out!

Last time I used Ruby + Gosu, though this time I’m thinking of using C++ and Gosu with the framework I’ve been working on with some friends.  You can find the framework here, if interested.

http://www.assembla.com/wiki/show/MUGE

Turns out it is somewhat similar to ippa’s, except in C++ and mine includes a workflow for level design using arbitrary sprites via JSON configuration.

For music and sound I’ll be using the trustworthy GarageBand and Dr. Petter’s sfxr again.  For graphics, likely I will suffice with Photoshop.

See you on IRC and happy dev’ing!

Argh, I forgot a title

LD14 was the first Ludum Dare that I managed to submit something, the instantly forgettable Giant Laser of Doom. This time around I’m hoping to do better. I have a very comfortable new chair and a new desk, so finally my home office is beginning to feel like a room that I actually want to be in. On top of that, my wife knows that I’m taking part in LD15 and has told me that she’s ok with the fact that I’m not going to be around much from Saturday evening onwards. So, all in all, I have no excuses.

I’m planning to use one or more of the following tools:

  • Unity3d
  • sfxr
  • Paint.NET
  • Blender
  • Visual Studio 2008

Good luck to everyone taking part. I’m looking forward to seeing what you come up with.

Onward ho!

Well I’m certainly going to have a go at this. Unluckily, I have a few other minor commitments this weekend (unfortunately you can’t get other people to reschedule their birthdays around you social life) but as Monday is a Bank holiday it looks like I’ll be able to work right up to the deadline.

I’m probably going to ditch my normal pygame platform for Love2D as it means I should be able to generate Windows executables from my Mac which should hopefully allow more people to vote on my game. Other than that I’m also likely to use The Gimp, PovRay, sfxr,  and audacity .

Good luck everyone.

Good Luck to you too mate!

what is there to say?

I will be in the Ludum Dare 15

First Timer

I just decided earlier today at work that I would enter this weekend’s contest. I haven’t decided yet what development environment I will be working in, it is either going to be Visual Studio\C++\SDL or Eclipse\Java\Graphics2D (maybe LWJGL). Any graphics will most likely be done in Paint.NET no idea what I will be using for sound/music.

I am most likely going to be at the bar tonight with friends when the theme is announced (it will be around 11pm east coast time), so I am going to start actual design/development in the morning.

I will of course try and keep up the blog as I go along and will be posting to my twitter account (caseyd418) regularly.

Good luck everyone!

My tools will probably be:

  • SFML
  • Gimp

Best of luck to everyone.

*As we get a zombies theme*

Declaration of Intent

I’m going to try to sneak in under the wire (I didn’t see a timeline for when you had to say you were planning to participate in LD15 to participate). I’ve wanted to do one of these for a while, but always manage to not notice the start date and time. :)  I’m pretty sure I’ll be working at my real job tommorrow, so I’ll lose some hours there, but other than that I think I have the full weekend available.

Planned platform: Flash

Tools:

FlashDevelop (IDE)

FlexSDK

GiMP (gfx)

Audacity (SFX and music if I get that far)

Should be fun!

LD is the only time I seem to clean my desk …

Heres my desk for this one around, not much has changed from LD 14

PDR_0022

The computer moved from on top to under, the keyboard was upgraded from “generic clicky” to IBM Model M … um I have a clock and a candle (called “smell my nuts” I kid you not)

PDR_0001

Also this time around (if theres enough time)  I am going to try my hand at some music,  now I am not an accomplished musician, altho I took piano as a kid and played many instruments during high school and early 20’s

Now Im 30 and 10 years out of practice, but I bummed this dirt old keyboard from work,  with a excellent sequencer / composer which allows me to baby step so hopefully I can make some basic music that wont make everyone’s ears bleed

Cant wait to get started, and wish everyone good luck

*noobie tip: eat a good dinner, and  take a shower before the compo starts !
