LD26 April 26–29, 2013

I’m in :D

This will be my 2nd Ludum Dare and 3rd Game Jam, and I am psyched for it!!

This will be my first (and 2nd last, hopefully) doing it during my Junior College period, so I hope that I can get all my tutorials and revision done before the theme is announced.

Tools of trade:
Flash CS6
Photoshop CS6 + Wacom Intuos 4
Garageband + Guitar / Keyboard / Bass
Lots and lots of COFFEH

Hopefully I apply what I learnt during the last 2 jams.

Good luck to all the first time Jammers!

HAPPY JAMMING

-GR

Spent to long playing with Terrain Generation

I found myself up at two o’clock in the morning learning how to make myself a nice little island surrounded by water using Perlin noise. I’m excited to have learned this and hope to be able to use it in the Game Jam. Until then I’m going to work on improving it. Can’t wait to see what everybody else is working on and please leave some feed back I do appreciate it!

Do you mean Actual Perlin Noise, or Plasma Noise (maybe even Diamond-Square)? Plasma and Diamond-Square are pretty easy to do and I’m pretty sure are more common.

Exporting in Eclipse

So before LD 25 I decided to try exporting a very simple game I made, I did it and the game worked perfectly when I opened it. Now I exported  a new project and on opening it, it’s telling me…

zaetgf

It haven’t changed my methods between now and last time, I exported the first one again and it worked. I’m guessing either the new workspace is different or I did something to make it work  last time that and don’t remember what.

Can someone help?

UPDATE: I moved the game to a java 1.6 project instead of 1.7 and it worked. Do I need to change settings? Re-download eclipse? My computer HAS the latest Java update.

First off it depends what compiler you where using, what engine you use what DDLs extensions you had used what models you used, what system it was made on, what language you script in, what files your missing, what folders you referenced to, and if any lines tried to open a file that was not locally located or was identified as an asset.

See you on the other side! 😀

I’m In! (I think)

Hey guys,

Im proud to announce as long as everything goes to plan that i will be entering the next Ludam Dare. With an exception of going to football halfway through.

Software: GameMaker

Sound: Audacity

Art: Gimp, Paint.net

Maybe a use of other software, but not too sure yet!

I’m iiiiin!

I’m in here again. wooo!

This is what my 3rd one? yeah!

I’ll be using

flashpunk, as3 made by legend chevy ray.

tyler moltz’s style of tiling lvls. Maybe noel’s version of light. :)

audacity and if needed bfxr.

paint.net should be fine for pixels.

hopefully i’ll be able to compose a decent song on musagi. xD

I’m really excited for this ludum dare. They are very entertaining and exciting and it’s the only time during the year that i can program at a very fast pace for a nice extended period. I’m planning on doing a timelapse again. It’s going to be fun fun fun!

it's the ld26, it's on!

I’m in, science willing

First LD. I’ll consider it a success if I manage to rub two sprites together without crashing.

Engine/Language: Unity, C#

Utilities: Spine, TexturePacker

Graphics: Inkscape, Gimp

Audio: Audacity? Ugh, always forget audio

I’m in, as usual.

Same tools as always.

Code: FlashDevelop, FlashPunk
Graphics: Photoshop
Music: Renoise
Sounds: [S|B]FXR, and winLame for converting everything to their proper formats.

GOOD LUCK, EVERYBODY! Let’s make some fuckin’ games!

Team CPH-Tech is doing the jam.

CPH will be entering the jam.

Language: C++ with sdl module

Sprite Editor: GIMP

IDE: CodeBlocks

Sound: Audacity, a microphone

We will be making a 2d game, most likely an rpg or rts. Three of us, there are. We will see if there will be foodsprites this time round.

Returning for LD26

I’m back in for LD26, and this time I’m going international. That is to say, I’ll be spending the duration of the competition out of the country. I’ll be teaming up with my partner in game-development-crime in our fortified bunker in Buffalo, NY (well, close to it). Second game jam, first one as part of a team.

Dev tools: C#, XNA, .NET, Whiteboards, Dry Erase markers

Eye tools: Photoshop, probably (Wanyo’s call since he’s in charge of that)

Ear tools: That retro sfx sound generator I used last time (the name escapes me), Goldwave, Shure Beta 58A mic (or something like that) and an ART Pre-amp tube (to record XLR input)

Probably not going to be livestreaming since I won’t be at home, but I’ll be visiting the dev site this weekend and that’ll give me a better idea of what I’ll be working with.

I’m really excited for this LD. I expect game dev is a lot like Resident Evil 6: pretty fun by yourself, but way more fun if you’ve got a partner to do it with, especially when they can handle the parts you’re not very good at and vice-versa.

But without the QTEs.

I’m in for the 5th time!

It’s already my fifth Ludum Dare and I’m still excited like in the first time 😀

I feel that this Ludum Dare is going to be super awesome with a lot (1000++++) of great new games!

And as always, my weapons:

  • Platform – Flash AS3
  • Library – FlashPunk
  • IDE – FlashDevelop
  • Graphics – GraphicsGale and Pixlr
  • Sounds – BFXR
  • Music – Maybe some random generated music
  • Food – Chocolate, A LOT of CHOCOLATE 😀
  • Live stream – Open Broadcaster on Twitch
  • Encouragement – Friends, my cat and the Beatles

I’m In!

Cryengine or Cyengine? :3
Killswitch
12. Apr 2013 · 03:28 UTC
And yes, any game engine is allowed.
12. Apr 2013 · 03:43 UTC
At one point the wording was you were only allowed to use engines that were freely available to anyone or had a free/trial version that allowed for publishing games. The current wording is “All publicly available libraries and middleware are allowed.” I doubt Cryengine 3 counts as publicly available.
12. Apr 2013 · 03:54 UTC
Yes, you can, all engines allowed and you can just share the project, that’s what people using Unity and Gamemaker do.
12. Apr 2013 · 07:13 UTC
In fact, I think Unity pro(and other commercial engine) should be forbidden. I haven’t seen any entry using it, so it’s not a big problem…

Hey,

Another question: are games using the provided assets (that come with Cryengine ) like sounds, particle sprites, sounds, models, textures etc eligible for the dare or would this count as premade content and force the entry to the Jam section?

…previously on alvivar’s ludum dare

:(

Hello Ludum Dare community! As we approach LD26, I want to share with you a little toy I’ve been working on. Duoludo is an experimental library that provides checkpointing and playback to any javascript game. Duoludo also has a server that saves all player actions, validates them, and serves up the best on a leaderboard, allowing them to be replayed and built upon. You could, for example, use this to crowdsource the testing of a game.

To show you how it works, I made ZEPTO, a minimalist platformer with original music. Give it a try!

I’m in for LD 26

After watching from the sidelines for a while, I’ve decided to enter.

This will be my first LD, so I expect plenty of chaos, crashing and burning. But I’m as ready as I’ll ever be!

  • Flashdevelop
  • Flashpunk
  • Ogmo
  • Paint.NET / Pyxel
  • Musagi
  • Sfxr

Best of luck to everyone entering!

Hack-a-Jam Game Competition in ONE WEEK!

Starting April 19, the 5th Hack-a-Jam Game Development Competition will begin!

This competition is held every 2-4 months, and this is the approximate 1-year birthday. Because of this, I am offering a prize to the winning entry. This prize is free advertising (one month), on both of my main websites, which have decent traffic.

What is the Hack-a-Jam?

The Hack-a-Jam is a game development event/competition where you must create a game within a set amount of time. The time given in each competition varies, as it could take two days, four days, or even just 30 minutes. Different from other game jam events, the Hack-a-Jam uses a multiple-award system, meaning there is no “Overall Best Game”. This allows for us to give awards to the best games, and not make a decision between two games which are equally amazing. The theme will be a suggestion voted on from the community through many different voting sessions. Another thing you could do to win certain categories is make things such as dev logs, timelapses, etc. You can them post them or links to them in the Posting section of the Forums.

What are some possible winning categories?

Most Psychedelic Visuals
Most Deaf People After Hearing The Game
Most extra items (dev logs, etc.)
Most Rage-free
Most rage-induced
Most Suggestive Content Without Crossing The Line
Shortest Game
Best themed
Most Things On Screen Without Lag or Crash

What are the rules?

Since we are a laid back community, you could probably get away with most of these rules (except major ones, like turning in your entry a whole 24 hours late…). Here are what I would like the community to follow, however:

1. All game content must be created within the set time. Note: You can use other music, placeholder graphics, etc. as long as you are allowed to!
2. Your game is not required to follow the theme, but would greatly improve your chances of winning. Unless almost every other game is not following the theme, it is almost guaranteed that your game won’t win anything.
3. You must work alone, and you must create everything included in the game.
4. All game creation tools are permitted, such as Unity, GameMaker, Photoshop, Flash, Paint, etc.
5. All external game extensions/DLLs are permitted. If you want to make it multiplayer (if you are using GameMaker), go ahead and use 39dll.

You can visit our website at http://www.hack-a-jam.com/. From there, you will want to head over to the Posting section, and sign up for an account (you can use Google, Facebook, etc.). Good luck to everyone!

1st timer here :D (Call me an LD-Virgin?)

I was planning on joining the previous one, but i had no ideas whatsoever on the genre. We’ll see what the genre will be this time.

Tools (because everyone posts what they make their game with):

  • XNA as framework
  • Paint.NET / Photoshop for graphics
  • SFXR maybe for sfx

I wish you all luck :)
