LD25 December 14–17, 2012

I am in

Im in

I am going to write an adventure game.

I have some notes jotted in my development notebook. Sitting just within an arms
reach I look at it all the time. There are some questions, a big ass title and
a list of things I would need in an adventure game. But the last few items in the
list are the most interesting.

The page then dissolves into a world where the particle is king. The man with the
most particles will get all the girls. The particle with the most men with gets
all the grills.

I think I will have to add particles somewhere in this adventure game.

My language of choice is going to be javascript.
Working in the canvas on a hand rolled engine. It is something I started about
two months ago, originally an
isometric engine. I will have to strip it down a bit for an adventure game,
hopefully not too much. The branch before the start of the game can be found on
github here.
I will text edit in the text editor Vim

Of course I will need some other tools as well. For audio I am going to use a
mixture of Garage Band loops and bfxr.
That should be as much as I can handle. For
art I want to try using SketchBook Pro
on my iPad and Pixen. I have used Pixen a
lot in the past, it is a good old friend for touching up images.

For raw creation I will be coding and drawing with my bare hands for as long as
possible. As that proves futile I will switch to my MacBook Pro augmented with
my Cyborg RAT3 mouse. To keep my thoughts in
order I will scrawl liberally in my
development pad with my Lammy Safari pen and on
any white board I can hold down.
I will draw on everything, but intend to create art on my ipad mini and fix it
with my Cyborg mouse. I will sing as much audio as possible.

My Code is comfortable in git, let sleeping dogs lie.

My final set of tools will produce my most approachable output. I am going to use
a combination of screecapture
and imagesnap
on my mac to create a time lapse. My
final plan is to create a video that includes, both desktops, my face (wooooooooo)
and text annotations for my latest tweet/ADN post, commit message and blog post.

The result of that can come after Ludum Dare though.

Third time lucky, my particle friends will fend off the goats.

Yay, the LD needs more adventure games!

Let’s do this!

I’m Dr. Mo from Bakamo Studios in Columbus, Ohio, USA, and I’m joining the compo once again. This is my second ever game jam, the first being my LD #23 game Asteroid Defender. In that one, I put too much work into the mock-up screenshot and mock-up music, and I ran out of time before I could do the real thing how I wanted. This time, I decided that I’m going to talk less and code more. The only screenshots you’ll get out of me will be from the game. Also, I’m getting more serious about my music this time, so I’ve just bought the amazing tracker Renoise. I’m still using Game Maker 7 for this compo since that’s what I’m fastest with.

Code: Game Maker 7.0 Pro, GML
Graphics: GIMP 2.8.2
Sound: Renoise 2.8.1, Bfxr

Well, here we are

But not again.

This is my first time for Ludum Dare, and I am so so so so so excited. I am shaking in excitement. I don’t even care that I have no plans and no idea how I’m going to pull this off. I just like competition, I guess. And programming. I love programming. I could do that all day.

But that all happens tomorrow.

It’s only a day away.

“UltraMinimal” python framework (pygame)

Hi again! In previous post I said that I’ll create a small framework for my self.

And here it is: https://bitbucket.org/horizonOffset/ultraminimal

Now it can:

  • Open a window and send basic input events
  • Load resources listed in external file
  • Do some baisc scene management
  • Log into external file

It will be finally finished tomorrow.

What will be done:

  • I wanna add collision detection and extend scene management
  • Add more input events like mouse moving e.t.c.
  • Optimize rendering by clipping invisible objects
  • Add text rendering

Sorry, but I don’t have enought time for documentaion (maybe tomorrow) and my english is not so good as I want. But this might be helpful. I hope so)

My First Ludum Dare.

My game with be built with HTML5. I’ll be using plain JavaScript and CSS. As I am using chrome and have little time, I’ll be focusing on webkit browsers, sorry IE. I plan to stay away from the canvas and try to build the game using the DOM and hardware accelerated CSS. This will be my first game built in JavaScript, so I am not sure what to expect. I won’t be using any external libraries as I am not familiar with any of this nature.

Language: CSS, JavaScript
IDE: Intellij IDEA
Graphics: Photoshop

i plan to use Sprite3D which is the only library I know of that uses DOM/CSS3 w/ hardware.

First time is always a good one

Hello everyone,

Firts time in a Ludum Dare very excited !

Ready to dev !

When I read the title I was wondering if you were talking about ludum dare.

LD 25 – helloWorld(Caffeine);

I’ll be doing the Jam with a friend to teach him the development process of creating a video game in 72 hours :D! We’ll be targeting the web with flashplayer 11.5 We are excited for the themes as they all seem relativity decent! Good Fun and Happy Holidays to you all and (hopefully this isn’t the last of LD or the world -> 12/21/12 😉 lol)

‘I’m In’ like your left foot in the Hokey Pokey

I was told I need to make an “I’m in” post.

~~~~Code~~~~
Python 2.7, using the pygame module (specifically 1.9.2).
(I’ll post how to get to that later)
~~~~Graphics~~~~

Probably mostly Photoshop, although on occasion when Photoshop irritates me, I use MS Paint and then make things transparent in Firework.

~~~~Music~~~~
I’ll probably either use FamiTracker, or Audacity with some ukulele-ing I can play or some other assorted baby-type instruments I have (from when I was like 4). But probably a mix of both.
~~~~Platform~~~~

I will be triple-wielding Windows XP, 7, and Ubuntu 12.04. Yes, I will literally be going back and forth between those. I’ll probably spend most graphic design and coding on the XP computer, 7 if I use FamiTracker, and Ubuntu if I use Audacity (which I promise you I will). I will do my best to make it both Windows and Ubuntu accessible, but I have no promises for anything else, simply because I cannot test it on anything else!

~~~~Disclaimers~~~~
Unlike everyone else it seems like, I am using NO pre-written code or libraries or special things or whatnot. I guess pygame kind of counts as a library, but it doesn’t seem to fit for some odd reason. It’s more of a module, I guess. Anywho, I want to do my best to make this from scratch, to the point where it’s almost like a personal challenge for myself.
I will do my best. It’s what a Boy Scout does. And in the nature of a Boy Scout, I will sit inside all day and look at a computer screen.
</irony>
~~~~EDIT~~~~

I apologize. Pygame is naught more than a library wrapper thing. I am sorry. I have lied and shall be publicly executed.

I’m in

I’m using a new homemade framework, which is slightly more advanced than last time – better collisions, a better sound system and a mini particle engine. You can get it here: https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B6vNgTMtYIF9ZEY2RVpWRWFHVk0/edit

Good luck! :)

I’m in

This is my first Ludum Dare (I’ve spectated some in the past) and I’ll do my best to finish.

I’ll be using:

C++

SFML or libtcod (looking into Angel Engine)

GraphicsGale/Gimp

maybe sfxr, I’ll try reaper (I don’t really know about music so there probably won’t be any :( )

Good luck!

Okay I might do ludum dare again. I want to make a multiplayer game this time so I made this library last weekend that I want to use.

I hope I’m not breaking any rules by choosing to do this, but heres the library if you want to take a look:

I’m In!

This will be my 6th Ludum Dare, it’s been over a year since my last LD!

I’ll be doing something 3D as usual, possibly using WebGL if I’m feeling like trying new things…

Three.js is awesome. Maybe not for all types of games though…

I’m in, for the first time since the 21st LD24!

Wow, I can’t believe how long it really has been. I just realized today that the LD24 was going on this weekend, and I decided I’d give it another chance. 😀

Tools:

Game Maker 8

Gimp, Gm sprite editor, Paint.net

I hope to do better than I did last time, which I failed miserably. :)

PixelKing

Maybe?

Will I make something? I don’t know; my weekend schedule is a mess right now. I might just participate in the jam. Anyway, if I DO make something it will be coded in Java (in Eclipse) with graphics made in GIMP, sounds from SFXR, maybe some MIDI from MuseScore, and OpenGL/OpenAL functionality from LWJGL. I’ll see how things play out.

I’m in for the 3rd time

Hello Everyone!

This will be my 3rd shot at the 48 hour compo.
My only goal is to be able to make a better game than I did the last 2 times.

Tools I will be using:

  • XNA with C# in Visual Studio 2010
  • Paint for basic pixel art, Paint.NET for more advanced raster graphics, Inkscape if I decide to use vector graphics
  • Bfxr for sound effects
  • Renoise for music if I have the time (I never do)

This time I decided against using a base code, I’ll build everything from the ground up. I hope it works out alright.

Anyway, I wish you all the very best with your game making endeavors and I hope we won’t be wiped out in the looming apocalypse, so we can do this again next year.

I’m In!

This will be my first Ludum Dare!

What I’m using:

Language: Java

IDE: Eclipse

Graphics: Paint.NET

Sound: Not sure… :/

Looking forward to it!

Rubberkid (from LD#18) was reported on Joystiq!!!

You can read the Joystiq article here: Rubberkid on Joystiq [opens in new window]

I realize that this comes just barely over 24 hours from Ludum Dare 25, but finding out about this when I woke up this morning totally made my day!

I’d started a Kickstarter campaign to promote The Adventures of Rubberkid, a game that was begun back in Ludum Dare 18 (Enemies as Weapons) that teaches kids the evils of bullying, on November 30th, and just this week had started pushing to news sites and such. The campaign crossed 20% yesterday, and then this morning I found a message from a friend on Facebook that said:

“Saw you on Joystiq. Good stuff!”

All I could think was… “WHAT?!” So I Googled “Joystiq Rubberkid” and found it!

My point with all of this is… Don’t ever give up! Ludum Dare is a magical contest that can have absolutely fantastic results! Even if your game isn’t finished in time, or you end up #1406/1406, Ludum Dare can really inspire some great ideas! Don’t feel awful if the concept doesn’t come to fruition in the weekend. Enjoy the time and follow your calling in game development!

In I’m!

Alright, I’m in! I’ve done the compo 3 times in a row, but I’m going to be a bit busy this weekend so I decided to enter the Jam.

Language: Java

IDE: Eclipse

Graphics: Paint.NET

Sound: bfxr.net or maybe my microphone, depends on what I make

I’ve put together a little starting project, no game there at all yet, it just gives me a window and I’ll work from there. Download here if you want it: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/57216324/SlickTemplate.zip

Good luck everyone!

I’m still in!

Even though I posted about being in around October, I’m here to say that I still am, and to update some links.
I’ve learned a lot from last time (this is my second time) and hopefully I can make a game that’s not a maze full of paper this time.

Toolset:

  • Language: Lua
  • Framework: LÖVE
  • Code Editor: Sublime Text 2
  • Music Composition Software: MuseScore
  • Audio Editor: Adobe Audition/Encore
  • Image Editor: Adobe Photoshop

Existing code:

Best of luck to all, and most importantly: have a good time! See you on the other side with a (hopefully) finished game!
